Remains of young mom Shiri Bibas, taken hostage and killed by Hamas, not returned despite promise, Israel says

The mother of two young boys murdered by Hamas terrorists while in captivity was not among the bodies returned to Israel on Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

Before the return of the remains of the four slain hostages, Hamas said the bodies would include Shiri Bibas and her two toddlers, Ariel and Kfir, ages 4 and 10 months, as well as Oded Lifshitz, a retired journalist and activist. However, Israel’s National Institute of Forensic Medicine could only determine the identity of two of the bodies, the young boys.

“During the identification process, it was determined that the additional body received is not that of Shiri Bibas, and no match was found for any other hostage,” the IDF said. “This is an anonymous, unidentified body.”

“According to the assessment of professional officials, based on the intelligence available to us and forensic findings from the identification process, Ariel and Kfir Bibas were brutally murdered by terrorists in captivity in November 2023,” authorities said.

The family became symbols of the ordeal that has gripped Israel since the war in Gaza began.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bibas family during this incredibly difficult time and remain committed to doing everything possible to ensure Shiri and all the hostages are brought home at the earliest opportunity,” the IDF said.

It called the deaths a “violation of utmost severity” by Hamas, while also demanding the terror group return the body of Shiri Bibas and all other hostages being held captive.

Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, said Hamas continues to “violate every basic moral value,” even after the death of the boys.

“Instead of returning Shiri, the mother of Kfir and Ariel, Hamas returned an unidentified body, as if it were a worthless shipment,” he wrote on X. “This is a new low, an evil and cruelty with no parallel.”

He further said that UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN the Security Council and the General Assembly continue to remain silent in the face of Hamas’ “barbarity” and demanded Hamas to return the body of Shiri Bibas.

“History will remember well who stood by and remained silent while Hamas trampled on the most basic principles of humanity,” Danon wrote.

The young boys and their mother were abducted in their home by Hamas terrorists during the terror group’s deadly Oct. 7, 2023 attack. Yarden Bibas, Ariel and Kfir’s father, tried to protect them and was abducted prior to the kidnapping of his wife and children, the IDF said.

Yarden returned as part of the agreement for the return of the hostages on Feb. 1.

Thursday’s release is the first one involving the transfer of slain hostages since the ceasefire deal went into effect last month.

Hamas handed over on February 20 coffins believed to contain the bodies of four Israeli hostages, including those of the Bibas family who became symbols of the ordeal that has gripped Israel since the Gaza war began. The transfer of the bodies is the first by Hamas since its October 7, 2023 attack on Israel triggered the war, and is taking place under a fragile ceasefire that has seen living hostages exchanged for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.  (EYAD BABA/AFP via Getty Images)

  • Hall of Famer Steve Young weighs in on Aaron Rodgers’ NFL future as possible divorce with Jets looms

Hall of Famer Steve Young weighs in on Aaron Rodgers’ NFL future as possible divorce with Jets looms

Aaron Rodgers’ time in a New York Jets uniform could soon come to an end. It is “unlikely” the Jets will “move forward” with the four-time NFL MVP quarterback, FOX Sports reported earlier this week.

The report on Rodgers’ future surfaced shortly after the Jets brought in Aaron Glenn as the team’s next head coach and named Darren Mougey the general manager. Rodgers and the Jets divorcing could be a sign that Gang Green wants to go into the offseason with a clean slate.

If Rodgers’ stint in New York does officially reach an endpoint around the start of the NFL’s new league year in March, he will leave the Jets with 18 starts over two seasons. Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury in the first week of the 2023 campaign.

JETS GAVE AARON RODGERS ULTIMATUM ON ‘PAT MCAFEE SHOW’ APPEARANCES: REPORT

While an unceremonious exit from the Jets could spark questions about whether the 41-year-old Rodgers will decide to step away from the NFL, Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Young believes the quarterback still has the tools to be an effective player.

“In today’s game, Tom Brady said it best. The flats are always open, the middle of the field is unpatrolled, and no one can hit me,” said Young during a recent appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.”

“And by the way I make $50 million dollars. So I think that Aaron because he’s healthy a full year, look the mobility is down and everything else, but if he can get to a place that understands the position, has innovative mindsets of more and more places like that, that you can get to where you can take advantage of the new football that’s being played. If he can get to one of those spots I’m sure he’d still love to go play some great football, especially with a more innovative mind.”

Rodgers threw 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions over 17 games in 2024. While Rodgers is much closer to the end of his career than he is to the beginning, he did have moments this past season where he played well.

However, it remains unlikely that Rodgers will regain his MVP-caliber form. But with several NFL teams being in desperate need of competent quarterback play next season, Rodgers could draw interest if he does end up on the free agent market.

  • Young sports fans’ relationship with betting underscores unifying aspect, study suggests

Young sports fans’ relationship with betting underscores unifying aspect, study suggests

Sports gambling in the U.S. has ramped up since states began to implement their own laws and restrictions around the activity.

Most sports are able to place a bet on their phone or mobile device without ever having to step into a casino or talk to a bookie in a dark alley. The easy access has made it so those of a younger generation, specifically Gen Z or those born between the late 1990s and early 2010s, can wager on nearly every sporting event in the world.

Those young fans’ betting trends have underscored the notion that sports is one of the great unifiers in the world.

A survey conducted by Bookies.com and shared with Fox News Digital showed that 80% of more than 270 Gen Z respondents showed that they wagered with people of a different demographic. Additionally, 45% who wagered with friends who have a different ideology or presidential vote were three times more likely to listen to that person’s opposing viewpoint.

“Sports is the last and ultimate unifier, and the Super Bowl is the greatest and last unifying event. It is the only time all year when everyone is watching the same event at the same time on the same platform,” Bookies.com senior betting analyst Bill Speros told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “So, that unification just sort of runs downhill from there.

“The interesting thing about the demographics that struck me was that when you pick a side on a bet, let’s say you’re in a chat group or in a Reddit page or something, and you pick a side, and you say, ‘I like the under in the Super Bowl,’ and everybody else who picks the under on the Super Bowl is going to agree with you. They don’t know who you are. They don’t know what your race is. They don’t know your nationality. They don’t know your politics. They just know that you’re in agreement with them on the under in the Super Bowl.”

Speros added that if a young bettor is interacting with like-minded sports fans online, they weren’t necessarily seeing who the other person was on the other side of a username.

    Super Bowl LIX equipment

“So, the reason why this sort of cuts across demographics is that when you come into contact with someone over betting per se, you’re doing it based on how you believe a game or an outcome is going to go, and you’re not seeing the person’s face. You’re not knowing who they are [politically],” he said. “Your first interaction with them is that ‘Hey, we agree on this, right?’ It’s a positive interaction.

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

“Any time you have a positive interaction with someone, you’re more likely to build a relationship. Nowadays in society, we see our differences first, and then we realize we have a lot in common. With this, everyone sees that commonality first and then later on down the line they might realize they have some differences.”

The survey suggested that young people were building relationships through sports betting, with friends being the most common betting partner. About 55% of respondents said they made friends because of betting.

The study also suggested young fans were more inclined to research a game and thus learn the history and geography of a particular team or city. About 41% of Gen Z bettors said they learned where a city, state or county is thanks to sports betting.

The Super Bowl is routinely the biggest sports betting event of the year. The study said 74% of young people were most likely to bet during the game.

With every high that comes from winning a bet, there’s the low that comes from losing. Gambling is fun for the split-second rush, but getting in over your head is a serious problem that scores of Americans deal with on a daily basis.

Speros told Fox News Digital he gives everyone the same piece of advice.

“My first piece of advice is don’t bet,” he said. “My second piece of advice is, if you choose to bet, only bet what you can afford to lose. And that means set a budget. It’s a very simple way to figure out if you’re able to gamble responsibly or not.

“You always have to go into gambling with [the mindset of], ‘OK, this is money that I may lose.’ So it’s not going to have an adverse effect on the rest of my life. So it has to be money that you can afford or are willing to part with.”

  • Meet the young team of software engineers slashing government waste at DOGE: report

Meet the young team of software engineers slashing government waste at DOGE: report

Tesla and Space X CEO Elon Musk’s DOGE efforts to slash government waste and streamline the federal bureaucracy include the hiring of several up-and-coming young software engineers tasked with “modernizing federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.”

Six young men between the ages of 19 and 24 — Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger and Ethan Shaotran — have taken up various roles furthering the DOGE agenda, according to a report from Wired.

Bobba was part of the highly regarded Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology program at UC Berkeley and has held internships at the Bridgewater Associates hedge fund, Meta and Palantir.

“Let me tell you something about Akash,” Grata AI CEO Charis Zhang posted on X about Bobba in recent days. “During a project at Berkeley, I accidentally deleted our entire codebase 2 days before the deadline. I panicked. Akash just stared at the screen, shrugged, and rewrote everything from scratch in one night — better than before. We submitted early and got first in the class. Many such stories. I trust him with everything I own.”

‘VIPER’S NEST’: USAID ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION, MISMANAGEMENT LONG BEFORE TRUMP ADMIN TOOK AIM

Coristine, a recent high school graduate who studied mechanical engineering and physics at Northwestern, previously worked for Musk’s Neuralink project, Wired reported.

Bobba and Costine reportedly work directly under Anna Scales as “experts” at the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Kliger is listed on LinkedIn as a special advisor to the director of OPM and attended UC Berkeley in 2020. Kliger has also worked at the AI company Databricks. Kliger’s substack contains a post, “The Curious Case of Matt Gaetz: How the Deep State Destroys Its Enemies,” as well as another titled “Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense: The Warrior Washington Fears.”

USAID CLOSES HQ TO STAFFERS MONDAY AS MUSK SAYS TRUMP SUPPORTS SHUTTING AGENCY DOWN

Another post on the substack is headlined, “Why I gave up a seven-figure salary to save America.”

Killian is listed as a volunteer for DOGE who attended McGill University after graduating from high school in 2019. Wired reported that Killian previously worked as an engineer at a company called Jump Trading that deals with high-frequency financial trades and algorithms.

Shaotran was studying computer science at Harvard University last year and is the founder of Energize AI, an OpenAI-backed startup. Additionally, Shaotran participated in a “hackathon” sponsored by an Elon Musk company where he finished in second place.

Farritor, who dropped out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has a working GSA email address, was previously an intern for SpaceX and is also a Thiel fellow.

In 2023, at 21years old, Farritor became the first person to successfully decode text inside a 2,000-year-old Greek scroll using AI, according to the University of Nebraska website.

According to Wired, Bobba, Coristine, Farritor and Shaotran have working GSA emails along with A-suite level clearance that allows them to work on the top floor at GSA with access to all IT systems.

Fox News Digital reached out to OPM and GSA for comment.

Speaking to Fox News’ Peter Doocy in the Oval Office Tuesday, President Donald Trump praised the intelligence of some of the young hires working for DOGE.

“That’s good,” Trump said of the hires as young as 19. “They’re very smart, though, Peter. They’re like you. They’re very smart people.

“No, I haven’t seen them,” Trump said when asked if he had met the team. “They work, actually, out of the White House as smart people, unlike what they do in the control towers. We need smart people. We should use some of them in the control towers, where we were putting people that were actually intellectually deficient. That was one of the qualifications is you could be intellectually deficient.

“No. We need smart people. Some are young and some are not young. Some are not young at all. But they found great things. Look at the list of things. I’ll … maybe I’ll do it tomorrow. I’ll read off a list of 15 or 20 things that they found inside of the USAID. It has to be corrupt.”

Elon Musk has also publicly posted online about the qualifications he is looking for and the strength of his team.

“If you’re a hardcore software engineer and want to build the everything app, please join us by sending your best work to [email protected],” Musk posted on X in January. “We don’t care where you went to school or even whether you went to school or what “big name” company you worked at. Just show us your code.”

In another X post this week, Musk wrote, “Time to confess: Media reports saying that @DOGE has some of world’s best software engineers are in fact true.”

Wired cited sources who raised concerns about Musk’s team’s clearance, and Democrats in Congress have been railing against DOGE in recent days, arguing that DOGE has received improper access to various government systems.

Musk has pushed back on the criticism from Democrats, including allegations about DOGE’s involvement in treasury payment oversight.

“The @DOGE team discovered, among other things, that payment approval officers at Treasury were instructed always to approve payments, even to known fraudulent or terrorist groups. They literally never denied a payment in their entire career. Not even once,” Musk, the chair of DOGE, posted early Saturday morning to X.

Musk also responded to Democratic critics, including those upset about his efforts to push reforms at USAID, saying the “hysterical reactions” demonstrate the importance of DOGE’s work.

“An unelected shadow government is conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government,” a post on Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer’s X account states, echoing remarks the lawmaker made during a press conference.

“DOGE is not a real government agency. DOGE has no authority to make spending decisions. DOGE has no authority to shut programs down or to ignore federal law. DOGE’s conduct cannot be allowed to stand. Congress must take action to restore the rule of law.”

    Congress

Musk described the effort to slash government waste and bureaucracy as a one-time opportunity.

“Hysterical reactions like this is how you know that @DOGE is doing work that really matters,” he wrote in response to Schumer.

“This is the one shot the American people have to defeat BUREAUcracy, rule of the bureaucrats, and restore DEMOcracy, rule of the people. We’re never going to get another chance like this. It’s now or never. Your support is crucial to the success of the revolution of the people.”

Since its creation last month, DOGE’s X account has provided updates on its work to cut government spending, including an announcement last week that it had cut more than $1 billion from federal spending through now-defunct diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and personnel.

“DOGE is fulfilling President Trump’s commitment to making government more accountable, efficient and, most importantly, restoring proper stewardship of the American taxpayer’s hard-earned dollars,” a White House spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“Those leading this mission with Elon Musk are doing so in full compliance with federal law, appropriate security clearances and as employees of the relevant agencies, not as outside advisors or entities. The ongoing operations of DOGE may be seen as disruptive by those entrenched in the federal bureaucracy, who resist change. While change can be uncomfortable, it is necessary and aligns with the mandate supported by more than 77 million American voters.”

Mavericks GM discusses ‘tough decision’ to trade young superstar Luka Dončić

The Dallas Mavericks did the unthinkable overnight by trading Luka Dončić.

It’s perhaps the most stunning trade in NBA, and maybe sports, history – there had been no rumors about this at all, and Dončić is still just 25 years old and a perennial MVP candidate.

Well, general manager Nico Harrison admitted shortly after making the trade that he was concerned about the team’s defense, a bugaboo of Dončić’s. Trading for Anthony Davis surely helps in that area.

But Dončić is – well, was – a franchise cornerstone.

“I understand why [fans] would be shocked, initially,” Harrison told the Dallas Morning News.

“But I do believe that we positioned ourselves to win now and also win in the future. And that’s ultimately the goal and why we’re here. It’s one of those things where it’s my job to make the tough decisions that put our goals first and foremost.”

Aside from the defense though, Dončić would have been in quite a contract battle with the Mavs. His $207 million extension is set to expire this year, and he was due for a supermax that was worth over $340 million. Plus, he was soon able to opt out of any other deals. So, Harrison wanted security.

“We really feel like we got ahead of what was going to be a tumultuous summer, him being eligible for the supermax and also a year away from him being able to opt out of any contract,” Harrison said. “And so we really felt like we got out in front of that. We know teams, they’ve had it out there, teams have been loading up to try to sign him once that comes available.”

And with the speculation that the Mavs were upset with Doncic’s conditioning, it appears the stars aligned for Dallas to move on from him.

The Lakers received Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while the Mavericks took on Davis, Max Christie and Los Angeles’ 2029 first-round pick. To settle it all out, the Utah Jazz acquired Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

Home affordability crisis taking a toll on America’s young adults

The ability to buy a home has become increasingly difficult in the U.S. in recent years, and some experts are concerned about the long-term impact on young adults, who currently have a higher hill to climb to achieve the American dream than previous generations.

“Gen Z is correct—housing absolutely has become unaffordable for a significant portion of our population, especially that generation,” Phelps said. “Wages haven’t kept up with inflation or the rapidly rising home costs, and that’s before you even factor in rising interest rates and tightening underwriting guidelines.”

EXISTING HOME SALES FALL TO LOWEST LEVEL IN NEARLY 30 YEARS

Phelps said that based on the average salary in the U.S., a home buyer can afford a home that costs $110,928, which is a fraction of the median home price of $420,400 today.

“In other words, it’s not just a matter of making coffee at home and skipping the avocado toast,” he said. “The math doesn’t work for Gen Z.”

Tom Spaeth, owner of Easal Properties, said that in the last 10 years, the supply of homes that young families on a median income can afford to buy has gone from 50% of the available homes to a mere 15% as home prices and mortgage interest rates have risen.

TRUMP WANTS TO FIX THE HOUSING AFFORDABILITY CRISIS: WHAT IT WILL TAKE

He said that has happened “All while large institutional investors are purchasing a record number of homes, forcing young families into renting in lower quality neighborhoods, disrupting the education of their children, increasing the families financial stress and creating housing instability.”

Psychotherapist and author Jonathan Alpert says the housing affordability crisis isn’t just about economics—it also takes a serious psychological toll on young adults.

“Many Gen Zers are experiencing anxiety, frustration, and feelings of failure as they struggle to achieve what previous generations saw as a rite of passage,” Alpert said. “Owning a home has long been tied to stability and success, so when it feels out of reach, it can lead to self-doubt and a sense of being ‘stuck’ in life.”

Alpert says he is hopeful that as economic conditions shift, opportunities will open up.

“In the meantime,” he told FOX Business. “Resilience, adaptability, and a change in narrative around this topic is crucial for navigating these challenges.”

Hawks’ Trae Young reacts to NBA All-Star selection snub: ‘It’s getting “Traed” at this point’

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young has arguably put together the most productive first half of an NBA season in his career.

But Young’s NBA-leading 11.4 assists per game were not enough to land the 26-year-old guard an All-Star nod.

Last week, the NBA revealed the starters for its revamped annual showcase of its 24 star players. While the list of starters did not feature a lot of surprises, the reserves raised some eyebrows.

Young’s name was noticeably missing when the 2025 NBA All-Star Game reserves were revealed Thursday.

The omission sparked some spirited posts on social media about Young and other players who received a cold shoulder from voters. Young summed up his circumstances by putting a unique twist on his name.

“It’s getting ‘Traed’ at this point,” the former Oklahoma basketball standout wrote on X. He then offered an apology to his fans and took a more measured approach, saying, “Sorry to my fans.. it’ll change eventually! All right, talk soon!”

Young has been an All-Star three times before, but his numbers do seem to back up the argument that he is one of this year’s top 24 players. Aside from his assist average, Young is averaging 22.5 points per game.

NBA coaches pick the All-Star reserves. Hawks coach Quin Snyder made it clear he believes the players who made the All-Star roster are deserving.

“That also doesn’t preclude me from feeling the way I do about Trae,” Snyder said. “I haven’t coached him for that long, but I feel like he’s had the best year of his career. … No disrespect to anyone that has made it, but as Trae’s coach, I am allowed to feel disappointment for him not making it. And that’s unfortunate.”

Young hasn’t been voted into the game since 2022. He was an injury replacement selected by Commissioner Adam Silver for last year’s All-Star Game.

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time All-Star, is another notable player who did not receive an All-Star selection.

“Obviously, something that I wanted to be a part of,” Booker said Friday. “But definitely not going to complain about taking a week to regroup with the family.”

Fan voting accounts for 50% of the formula for deciding which players start the game, and the Hornets’ LaMelo Ball was the backcourt player who got the most votes from fans in the Eastern Conference by a wide margin.

However, he narrowly missed being a starter after finishing third in the East backcourt voting by players and seventh in the media balloting. Ball then missed out on being a reserve because he didn’t get listed on enough coaches’ ballots.

Ball ranks fourth in the league with 28.2 points per game. He is the first player under the current voting format to win the fan vote at his position but not get picked for the All-Star Game.
