Woman wins $2 million lottery prize after being given wrong ticket

A Virginia woman won an eye-popping sum after accidentally purchasing the wrong lottery ticket at a gas station.

Carrollton resident Kelly Lindsay bought the winning ticket at a Race Way station in her town in January. She was initially unhappy about “being given the wrong ticket,” she told officials, having wanted to play a different lottery game.

But that Money Blitz ticket ended up containing the correct numbers for the game’s second-place prize of $2 million. Lindsay scratched the ticket in the parking lot and soon learned of her good fortune.

“And I got over not being happy about it!” she joked.

Though she won the $2 million prize, she opted to take home a smaller amount all at once.

“Ms. Lindsay had the choice of taking the full $2 million prize in annual payments over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $1,250,000 before taxes,” the Virginia Lottery explained. She chose the cash option.”

According to the Virginia Lottery, one more top prize is still unclaimed. The chances of winning the top prize are less than one in a million.

“The chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,142,400,” the lottery noted. “The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.29.”

The Virginia Lottery added that all profits go to supporting K-12 education in Old Dominion.

“Ms. Lindsay lives in Isle of Wight County, which received more than $3.7 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year,” the statement added. “In Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery raised more than $934 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”

Lindsay’s lottery win is one of many that have occurred by accident. Last fall, an Illinois lottery player won $9.2 million after playing the wrong game.

Woman loses both hands in shark attack in Turks and Caicos after photo fail

A Canadian tourist had both her hands amputated after being attacked by a shark while snorkeling on vacation in Turks and Caicos when she attempted to get a photo with the creature.

The incident happened on Feb. 7, when officials with the Turks and Caicos Department of Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR) said the 55-year-old woman was snorkeling off Providenciales, the main island in the archipelago, when she was attacked by a shark.

Officials said the shark was estimated to be approximately 6 feet in length. However, the species is yet to be confirmed.

An investigation revealed that the woman had “attempted to engage with the animal from the shallows in an attempt to take photographs.”

The woman’s horrified husband quickly rushed into the water to attempt to get the shark away from his wife, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Other terrified bystanders also jumped in to help the woman and try to stop the bleeding.

She was rushed to a local hospital and later flown off the island for further medical care, officials said.

The victim, who was not identified, had to have both her hands amputated, according to the Visit Turks and Caicos Island website.

The beaches in the area were closed “in an abundance of caution,” but later reopened on Sunday, officials said.

“The DECR would like to urge the public to always be aware of your surroundings, follow local advisories, and respect marine life,” officials said in a statement on their Facebook page.

“Swim in designated areas, avoid murky waters, never swim alone, and do not attempt to feed marine wildlife under any circumstances.”

Between 2021 and 2025, four people were reported to have been attacked by sharks, and that all victims survived those attacks, according to the Visit Turks and Caicos Island website.

The website reported that one of the incidents happened on May 23, 2024, when a male resident was snorkeling at Leeward Reef off the northeast coast of Providenciales when he was attacked by a shark. As a result of the attack, officials said the male had to have his leg amputated above the knee.

The attack comes as another shark attack was reported on the same day when two American tourists were attacked by a shark hours after arriving at a popular beach resort in the Bahamas.

Authorities said the tourists were attacked by what appeared to be a bull shark, leaving one woman with serious injuries, while swimming in the waters of Bimini Bay.

The incident remains under investigation, and both women are expected to make a full recovery.

Woman killed in Valentine’s Day shooting outside pub in UK’s Kent | World News

In a shooting on Vallentine’s Day outside a village pub in Kent, a woman in her 40s died as the police continued to search for the accused involved in the incident.

Kent Police stated that it was treating the shooting of a woman as a murder inquiry. The shooting took place at three horseshoes on main road, Knockholt, just after 7pm GMT on 14 February.

Police said that the suspect, who is being considered a man, was known to the victim and added that the woman, who had gunshot wounds, died at the incident site itself.

While the investigation was ongoing, the police found a gun inside a stranded vehicle on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, which crosses the River Thames at nearby Dartford.

Detective Chief Inspector David Higham said that a call was received by the handlers about a man at the wrong side of the barrier on the bridge.

Higham said, “We are not ruling out the possibility that he may have entered the water. We are currently only looking for one suspect and do not believe there to be an ongoing risk to the public. Specialist officers continue to work with the families of both parties involved to support them following this tragic incident,” quoted BBC.

The Guardian reported that neither the victim nor the accused belonged to Kent but had local connections to the area.

  • Alabama’s What is a Woman Act, to ‘codify common sense,’ primed for gov’s signature

Alabama’s What is a Woman Act, to ‘codify common sense,’ primed for gov’s signature

Alabama Republican Gov. Kay Ivey is set to sign a new bill that she says answers a simple question: What is a woman?

The bill from state Rep. Susan DuBose, R-Leeds, and Sen. April Weaver, R-Alabaster, would adjust state law to explicitly define “man,” “woman,” “boy,” “girl,” “father,” “mother,” “male,” female” and “sex.”

It cleared the legislature in Montgomery on Wednesday.

Ivey is expected to sign the bill later Thursday; remarking, “In Alabama, it does not take a biologist to answer the question: What is a woman?”

KETANJI BROWN JACKSON REFUSES TO DEFINE THE WORD ‘WOMAN’

During Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing, the jurist told Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn she could not define the term “woman.” “In this context – I’m not a biologist,” Brown Jackson said.

“There are only two genders: Male and female,” Ivey told Fox News Digital.

“The What is a Woman bill by Rep. Susan Dubose and Sen. April Weaver is now heading to my desk. I look forward to signing it into law to codify common sense!”

The law would require the government to collect vital statistics to identify a person’s sex at birth and “delete obsolete or unnecessary definitions and make nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update the existing code language to current style.”

“For purposes of state law, a ‘female’ is an individual whose biological reproductive system is designed to produce ova, and a ‘male’ is an individual whose biological reproductive system is designed to fertilize the ova of a female,” a draft of the bill published on a government site read.

WOMANHOOD IS NOT A GAME OF SEMANTICS, ATTORNEY SAYS

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (Gov. Ivey via X)

Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter told Fox News Digital on Thursday the Yellowhammer State is one that “refuses to back down from commonsense conservative values.”

“We believe boys should play against boys and girls should play against girls. We believe that men have no business using the girls’ restroom,” said Ledbetter, R-Rainsville.

Ledbetter said every human is made in the image of God and their gender is defined by Him.

“I am proud that the House has passed Rep. Susan Dubose’s ‘What Is a Woman Act’ and look forward to Governor Ivey signing it into law,” he said.

The bill does have its opponents, including the ACLU of Alabama.

“We oppose House Bill 405. The ‘What is a Woman’ Act seeks to answer a question that is contextualized by far more than biological gender norms that this bill seeks to codify,” a statement from the group read.

“The bill establishes a stringent assertion of the definition of a man or woman that completely cuts transgender people out of the picture. This bill attempts to place antiquated gender assumptions as a rule of law.”

The group added that the legislation will make it more difficult for transgender people to “authentically” live life.

Democrats, including state Reps. Barbara Drummond of Mobile and Napoleon Bracy of Pritchard, also objected to the bill only being slated for 10 minutes of floor debate.

The Blackburn-Jackson incident and ensuing public debate also led conservative commentator Matt Walsh to produce a documentary on the matter called “What is a Woman?”

When the issue first came up in the Jackson hearing, Blackburn said the jurist being unable to give a “straight answer” about “something as fundamental as what a woman is” underscores the dangers of progressive education.

Blackburn suggested that biological male athletes should not be allowed to compete against women.

Kadarius Toney, Chiefs’ Super Bowl hero, arrested for allegedly strangling a woman

Former New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last month after police say he strangled a woman.

Toney is accused of putting his hand around a woman’s throat, squeezing “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe,” according to TMZ Sports.

Toney was accused of taking the woman’s phone during the altercation so she couldn’t call authorities, leaving her with marks on her neck and hemorrhaging in her eyes.

The 2021 first-round pick had a warrant out for his arrest Jan. 15, one day before the alleged altercation, and he was arrested Thursday.

He was charged with one count of aggravated assault-strangulation and another charge of obstructing/harrassing 911 calls, according to jail records.

Fox News Digital reached out to a representative of Toney for comment.

Toney was the 20th pick out of Florida four years ago by the Giants. After a tumultuous tenure in New York, he was sent to the Kansas City Chiefs. His record-breaking punt return in the 2023 Super Bowl and fourth quarter touchdown helped the Chiefs to that year’s Super Bowl victory.

Woman indicted on charges from crash that killed Vikings player, 2 others in car crash

A woman was indicted on 13 counts, including vehicular manslaughter, for the automobile crash that killed Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson back in July.

Jackson and two others were killed in the crash that occurred in the early hours of July 6, weeks before training camp began.

Cori Clingman was indicted on 13 counts, including vehicular manslaughter related to driving under the influence, according to prosecutors in Prince George’s County, a Washington suburb.

Clingman faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted, State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy said.

Jackson was drafted in the fourth round of last year’s NFL Draft but was never able to take a snap.

“I am absolutely crushed by this news,” head coach Kevin O’Connell said at the time of Jackson’s death.

“Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

Jackson, a passenger, and 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel, who had been driving the car, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Police said 23-year-old Anthony Lytton Jr., who had been sitting in the rear of the car, was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The three played high school football together and won a state championship.

Police said Clingman crashed into the car carrying the three men while attempting to change lanes. Police said she had been “driving at a high rate of speed” when she struck the vehicle.
