Trump reveals slew of picks for big jobs

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced a slew of picks for big jobs, including director of the U.S. Marshals Service and three ambassadors.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced Gadyaces “Gady” Serralta will serve as the next director of the United States Marshals Service.

“Gady is a lifelong public servant, with 34 years of Law Enforcement experience,” Trump wrote. “I nominated him in my First Term to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Florida, and he has done an incredible job for the past six years.”

Serralta previously served as a major for the Miami-Dade Police Department and as police chief in Palmetto Bay, Florida, Trump said.

Out of power: Democrats disoriented in fight against Trump agenda

It’s a new season for Congressional Democrats.

And that’s not always a good thing.

New seasons bring change. New players. New coaches. New approaches.

The problem is finding the right approach.

Especially when you’re on the outside looking in.

SPENDING SHOWDOWN: REPUBLICANS WILL NEED TO CORRAL VOTES – BUT THEY HAVEN’T ASKED, YET

Democrats are now the loyal opposition. Effectively locked out of power in Washington as Republicans control the executive branch and both bodies of Congress.

Democrats have lobbed entire landfills at President Trump since 2015. Some of it worked – a little bit. But certainly not enough to permanently sidetrack Mr. Trump. He executed one of the most extraordinary, improbable comebacks in world political history.

On the TV show “The Office,” secretary Pam Beesly noted that she only got ten vacation days a year.

“I try to hold off taking them for as long as possible,” said Beesly. “This year I got to the third week in January.”

Democrats are effectively stonewalled out of power, with both houses of Congress and the presidency having fallen to GOP leadership. (Reuters)

So far, Democrats are flailing as they try to challenge President Trump in his second term. So, they’re dusting off some old plays from a tired, dog-eared playbook.

Like Beesly, they waited as long as they could.

It took precisely 16 days before a Democrat threatened to impeach the President.

DEMOCRATS CALL FOR ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT AGAINST TRUMP AMID GAZA COMMENTS

Rep. Al Green, D-Tex., prepped the first articles of impeachment against President Trump in 2017. He didn’t do so until October of that year. But now, Green is ready to impeach the President.

“I did it before. I laid the foundation for impeachment. And it was done. Nobody knows more about it than I. And I know that it’s time for us to lay the foundation again. On some issues, it is better to stand alone than not stand at all,” said Green.

But two previous impeachments failed to suppress Mr. Trump. If nothing else, the impeachments may have emboldened him. Especially since despite the House impeaching him, he survived two Senate trials.

    Al Green

But Democratic leaders are leery of impeachment freelancing.

“This isn’t a focus of the Democratic Caucus,” said House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar, D-Calif. “We’ve laid out our strategy. Legislative. Litigation. Outreach. Communication. That continues to be the focus.”

Democrats are united in their opposition of President Trump. But finding a unifying, resonant message is another thing.

SOCIAL MEDIA, TEAM TRUMP REACT TO CORY BOOKER’S ‘MELTDOWN’ OVER ELON MUSK’S USAID CRACKDOWN

“In the United States Senate, we will not cooperate!” thundered Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J. “We’ll cooperate with no appointments when it comes to the State Department!”

“There should be hundreds of thousands and millions of people descending on Washington, DC!” declared Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass.

    John Garamendi

“We must resist. We must be in the streets!” said Rep. John Garamendi, D-Calif.

Democrats used to have only one target. That was President Trump.

“They have no rudder. They have no vision. They have no clear leader,” observed House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. “The only message they have is anti-President Trump.”

THE SPEAKER’S LOBBY: A PALPABLY UNFAIR ACT

    But opponents evolve.

The arch-enemy of Batman was always the Joker. But the Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman were worthy foes, too.

And so Democrats now have a new nemesis: Elon Musk.

    Musk at Trump inauguration

The President isn’t the only one in Democrats’ crosshairs this go-round – Elon Musk also shares the dubious honor. (Kenny Holston-Pool/Getty Images)

Democrats are peppering him with inflammatory rhetoric.

“A godless, lawless billionaire. You know who elected Elon? This is the American people. This is not your trashy Cybertruck that you can just dismantle, pick apart, and sell the pieces of,” said squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.

“God damn it. Shut down the Senate. We are at war. Any time, any time a person can pay $250 million into a campaign, and they’ve been given access to the Department of Treasury of the United States of America. We are at war,” said Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J. “We will not take this sh*t from Donald Trump and Elon Musk.”

“What we not going to do is stand around while they pull this bullsh*t that they’re trying to pull right now,” excoriated Rep. Jasmine Crockett,. D-Tex., of Musk and DOGE. “You all know he likes to pal around with Putin, right? He’s trying to turn us into Russia.”

MUSK’S DOGE TAKES AIM AT ‘VIPER’S NEST’ FEDERAL AGENCY WITH GLOBAL FOOTPRINT

“He is a low down, dirty, no good person that along with Trump cannot be trusted,” said Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. “We have got to tell Elon Musk, nobody elected your ass.”

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt blasted Democrats for their incendiary language.

“President Trump was elected with a mandate from the American people to make this government more efficient. He campaigned across this country with Elon Musk vowing that Elon was going to head up the Department of Government Efficiency,” said Leavitt. “For Democrat officials to incite violence and encourage Americans to take to the streets is incredibly alarming. They should be held accountable for that rhetoric.”

    John Fetterman and Donald Trump

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., is one of very few congressional Democrats – if not the only one – to advise an excess of caution in his party’s expressions of steadfast defiance toward the Trump agenda. (Getty Images)

But at least one Democrat urges discipline for his colleagues when attacking the President – or Musk.

“There’s going to be a lot of balls coming down to the plate. And I’m only waiting for a strike when I’m going to start to swing,” said Sen. John Fetterman, D-Penn.

Democrats executed another gambit Wednesday. They kept the Senate in session all night to postpone the confirmation of Budget Director nominee Russ Vought. The Senate broke a filibuster earlier on Wednesday. But Vought is someone who would have great influence over DOGE and potentially efforts by the administration to withhold or contour spending. Since the Senate voted to end the filibuster around 1 pm et Wednesday, Democrats opted to burn all time available to them just to protest Vought and DOGE.

SENATE DEMOCRATS SPEAK ALL NIGHT AGAINST TRUMP OMB NOMINEE, DELAYING CONFIRMATION VOTE

“Russ Vought represents a very specific view of presidential power, which is essentially unitary executive,” said Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, at 1:45 am et Thursday. “It’s this view that once you win, you’re basically a monarch.”

A cavalcade of Democrats seized the floor throughout the night. Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., at 5 am et. Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., at 6 am et. Booker at 9 am et.

“Whatever the challenges, whatever the fear, is what I want to tell you right now is don’t normalize a president who is violating the separation of powers,” said Booker on the floor just after 10 am et. “Don’t normalize a president who is violating civil service laws. Don’t normalize a president who is ignoring the dictates of Congress and establishing agencies.”

Around the same time, Democrats on the Judiciary Committee requested, and received – under the rules – a one-week delay on the nomination of FBI Director nominee Kash Patel.

“Kash Patel has a goal. It’s to wreck the FBI,” said Welch.

    Kash Patel

Democrats have managed to negotiate a one-week deal to delay the confirmation of Kash Patel, President Trump’s pick to head the FBI. (AP)

The Democrats’ maneuver chokes off Patel’s nomination from the Senate floor. But only for a week.

“It means that about 168 hours from right now, he’ll be confirmed by our committee,” said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

Democrats can’t do much but delay the inevitable. Republicans can confirm Patel on the floor if they stick together. The same with Vought. Vought is only the second nominee to score a partisan confirmation without Democratic assistance. The other was Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

“We are out of power. But we are not powerless,” said Schatz.

But that power is low voltage. Measured in foot candles, not watts.

There are limits to their power. And Democrats are now feeling it.

  • Trump says he’s ‘proud to be the president to save women’s sports’ after NCAA changes trans athlete policy

Trump says he’s ‘proud to be the president to save women’s sports’ after NCAA changes trans athlete policy

President Donald Trump celebrated the NCAA’s announcement of a new policy Thursday that prevents transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports after he signed an executive order to address the issue a day earlier.

Trump proclaimed himself “the president to save women’s sports” in a celebratory Truth Social post. He also suggested the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be the next major sports institution to follow his order.

“Due to my Executive Order, which I proudly signed yesterday, the NCAA has officially changed their policy of allowing men in Women’s Sports – IT IS NOW BANNED! This is a great day for women and girls across our Country,” Trump wrote.

“Men should have NEVER been allowed to compete against women in the first place, but I am proud to be the President to SAVE Women’s Sports. We expect the Olympics Committee to also use Common Sense, and implement this policy, which is very popular among the American People, and the entire World!”

The NCAA’s previous policy, which had been in place in 2010, allowed biological males to compete in women’s sports after undergoing at least one year of testosterone suppression treatment. The new policy states, “A student-athlete assigned male at birth may not compete on a women’s team.”

HOW TRANSGENDERISM IN SPORTS SHIFTED THE 2024 ELECTION AND IGNITED A NATIONAL COUNTERCULTURE

Prior to Trump signing the order Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said part of the motivation behind Trump’s executive order would be to create a “pressure campaign” for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and NCAA to follow and prevent transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.

During Trump’s ceremony at the White House to sign the executive order, he announced that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem will prohibit any transgender athletes attempting to compete as women from entering the country for the Olympics in 2028.

Trump said he will instruct Noem “to deny any and all visa applications made by men attempting to fraudulently enter the United States while identifying themselves as women athletes try and get into the Games.”

There was controversy surrounding gender eligibility at the Paris Olympics in July and August.

Boxers Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan won gold medals in women’s boxing. Both athletes had previously been disqualified from international competitions for failing gender eligibility tests. However, the IOC and current President Thomas Bach voiced support for both athletes. The IOC also insisted that both athletes were biologically female.

Before that, Laurel Hubbard, a transgender woman, competed in weightlifting for the New Zealand team, and Canadian soccer player Quinn came out as nonbinary and transgender in 2020.

With Bach preparing to leave office later this year, the IOC’s next president could help carry out Trump’s vision on the issue more cooperatively.

Former British Olympic champion Sebastian Coe is a candidate to be the next IOC president and has suggested he will take action to prevent transgender inclusion in women’s events.

Coe is the head of World Athletics, the governing body for international track and field competition. In 2023, the governing body tightened its regulations on transgender athletes to exclude transgender women who have gone through male puberty from competing in the female category. That regulation also lowered the maximum testosterone level for eligible female competitors.

Coe said if he becomes IOC president, the new Olympic policy on transgender inclusion will “probably” reflect the one he has established in World Athletics. Coe has also said the controversy surrounding Khelif and Yu-ting made him feel “uncomfortable.”

The United Nations released study findings saying nearly 900 biological females have fallen short of winning medals because they lost to transgender athletes.

The study, “Violence against women and girls in sports,” said more than 600 athletes did not medal in more than 400 competitions in 29 different sports, totaling over 890 medals, according to information obtained up to March 30.

“The replacement of the female sports category with a mixed-sex category has resulted in an increasing number of female athletes losing opportunities, including medals, when competing against males,” the report said.

PGA Tour credits Trump with moving LIV Golf deal closer during president’s big sports week

The PGA Tour put out a statement Thursday thanking President Donald Trump for intervening in the tour’s effort to broker a business agreement with LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

“We asked the president to get involved for the good of the game, the good of the country and for all the countries involved,” a statement from PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and player director Tiger Woods said. “We are grateful that his leadership has brought us closer to a final deal, paving the way for reunification of men’s professional golf.”

After launching in 2022, LIV lured several star golfers with massive salaries, including Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia.

In June of that year, the PGA suspended 17 players who pledged to play for LIV and promised future suspensions for anyone who participated in LIV events.

In June 2023, the PGA Tour and the European-based DP World Tour announced they had a ‘framework agreement’ for a merger with PIF and LIV.  But the agreement never materialized because the deadline to complete that deal passed at the end of that year.

More than a full year has passed since, but now Trump’s intervention may bring that deal closer to fruition.

Golf star Rory McIlroy said in November he believed Trump becoming president for the second time could help “clear the way” for a deal between the PGA and LIV.

Trump has a close relationship with Saudi Arabia and LIV Golf, with several of its 54-hole events being staged at Trump-owned courses.

Trump’s intervention with the PGA-LIV negotiations was one of many big sports moments for the president this week.

Trump changed the course of women’s sports history by signing the “No Men in Women’s Sports” executive order in the East Room of the White House in front of female athletes on National Girls and Women in Sports Day Wednesday.

The NCAA quickly capitulated to Trump’s order, announcing Thursday afternoon a new participation policy for transgender student-athletes.

“A student-athlete assigned male at birth may not compete on a women’s team,” the new policy states.

It was also reported this week that Trump will become the first sitting president in history to attend a Super Bowl.

The news prompted excitement from Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

“It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president,” Mahomes said. “Someone that is at the top position in our country.”

    Kelce called it an “honor.”

“I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know. And having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool,” Kelce said.

  • LARRY KUDLOW: Congressional Republicans must not stop the Trump Tax Cuts

LARRY KUDLOW: Congressional Republicans must not stop the Trump Tax Cuts

All of a sudden, nothing but bad news is coming out of the Republican Congress regarding tax cuts. Some people in the House are talking about a 5-year extension of the Trump Tax Cuts. The Senators are talking about 2, or even 3 budget bills that would put the tax cuts toward the back of the queue. This is bad economics and bad politics.

Are Republicans suffering from amnesia about the economy. Which was the number one issue in last November’s election. And there were 2 components to the economy: inflation and affordability. In other words, with Bidenflation going up 20%, real wages for middle- and lower-income blue-collar workers went down. Mr. Trump’s successful coalition of working-class voters was not based on race, gender, or left-wing culture. It was based on the paucity of income.

There are 2 ways to fatten middle-income wallets.  Getting inflation down, which would lower energy costs, and less government spending and money printing, and cut their taxes. Supply-side policies are always political and economic winners. Working class voters could not afford to live in the Biden economy. But Republican economic policies must give plenty of elbow room to working folks so they can fatten their wallets and easily afford the Trump economy. And if the Republican hang-up is a bunch of failed economic models from government bean counters, like the CBO, the GOP should stand up and fight it.

Revenues after the Trump tax cuts in 2017 increased by $1.5 to $2 trillion. Even the CBO admits it was close to $2 trillion above their early estimates. And although it seems arcane and, in the woods, the GOP should be using Senator Mike Crapo’s policy baseline — which argues that making the popular tax cuts permanent have not, yet nor will in the future, cause a loss of revenues. So they don’t have to cut $4 to $5 trillion in spending right away. Yes, they should get spending down to Scott Bessent’s 3% of GDP deficits. And lower the debt to GDP ratio. But the Laffer Curve growth dividend from tax cuts will be huge.

That’s what history shows. And there’s another reason why the GOP should make all the Trump tax cuts permanent: the President wants it.

He was elected on the tax cut promise among others. As White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said today, the tax priorities of Mr. Trump are very clear: make the 2017 Tax Cuts Permanent, no tax on tips, no tax on seniors, no tax on overtime pay, tax cuts for Made in America products, and eliminate special tax breaks for billionaires — including sports team owners. Or the carried interest loophole on investment. These are Presidential priorities. He won the election by a near landslide.

His working-class coalition of blacks, browns, Asians, young people, women, males, that coalition was based largely on an optimistic belief that Trump can rejuvenate the economy and unlimited access to climb the ladder of opportunity is what elected Mr. Trump. Republicans in the House and Senate must not stand in President Trump’s way.

  • Democrats who called Trump a “threat to democracy” now delay democracy

Democrats who called Trump a “threat to democracy” now delay democracy

American voters overwhelmingly elected President Donald Trump to carry out his “Make America Great Again” agenda despite Democrats calling him a “threat to democracy.” Now that Trump is back in the White House, Dems are delaying key cabinet appointments and vowing to “blow this place up” in the name of democracy.

Several Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., are calling for a halt to all of Trump’s cabinet nominations. Protests hosted by lawmakers have erupted in Washington, D.C., this week as Democrats rally against Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“God d—it shut down the Senate!” Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., said during an anti-DOGE protest in Washington, D.C., Tuesday. “We are at war!”

While Democrats spent 2024 promising Americans they were the party who would protect democracy and uphold the rule of law in a post-Jan. 6 world, they are dancing to the beat of a new drum in 2025 by practicing civil disobedience.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., told the crowd Tuesday, “We are here to fight back.”

“We are gonna be in your face, we are gonna be on your a–es and we are going to make sure you understand what democracy looks like, and this ain’t it,” Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, added.

Democrats have doubled down on their call to action this week after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told Americans to “fight” Trump’s agenda “in the streets” last week.

“We have to stand up and protest,” Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass, said at another rally in Washington, D.C., Wednesday. “When we come back here the next time, there should be hundreds of thousands and millions of people descending on Washington, D.C.”

Democrats held an all-night session Wednesday protesting Trump’s nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Russell Vought, who served as OMB director during Trump’s first term, was a key architect of Project 2025. Democratic candidates and surrogates during the 2024 campaign cycle pointed to Project 2025 as proof of Trump’s “threat to democracy.” Trump maintained he had nothing to do with it.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Vought is a “horrible, dangerous man” at the rally Tuesday.

Democratic leaders and their constituents have spent all week protesting in major cities across the country. From Texas to California, protesters are speaking out against Trump’s ICE raids and federal government layoffs and the administration’s stance that there are two genders.

Despite the Democrats’ protests, the Trump administration said it is following through on the agenda the American people voted for, and those who “incite violence” should be held accountable.

“President Trump was elected with a mandate from the American people to make this government more efficient,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “For Democratic officials to incite violence and encourage Americans to take to the streets is incredibly alarming, and they should be held accountable for that rhetoric.

Trump unveils sanctions against International Criminal Court for Netanyahu arrest warrant

President Donald Trump signed an executive order sanctioning the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday, in response to its May 2024 arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The order unveils financial sanctions and visa restrictions against ICC officials and their family members who support ICC investigations against U.S. citizens and allies.

The ICC is an independent, international organization, based in The Hague, Netherlands, and established under the Rome Statute, an international treaty that took effect in 2002. The court oversees global issues including genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

The Trump White House claims that the U.S. and Israel are not subjected to the jurisdiction of the ICC because the court poses threats to U.S. sovereignty and constitutional protections. Additionally, the White House has accused the ICC of politicization and said ICC has targeted Israel without holding regimes like Iran to the same standards.

In September 2018, Trump said that “as far as America is concerned, the ICC has no jurisdiction, no legitimacy, and no authority.”

In May 2024, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan, from the United Kingdom, had asked for an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, whom Netanyahu fired in November 2024. The warrant paved the way for their arrest, should they visit any of the 124 countries that are party to the Rome Statute, including the United Kingdom, France and Austria.

Khan also issued arrest warrants for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh and Mohammed Deif, who have all since been killed by Israeli forces.

Khan said he issued these warrants against Hamas leaders for war crimes including murder, taking hostages as a war crime, torture and other inhumane acts, following the Palestinian militant group’s attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

Khan also said he issued the warrants against the Israeli leaders due to war crimes including starvation of civilians, directing attacks against a civilian population, persecution and other inhumane acts.

In January, after Trump’s inauguration, the House also passed legislation that would sanction the ICC, but the measure failed to advance in the Senate Jan. 28.

Trump welcomed Netanyahu for a visit at the White House on Tuesday, where Trump signed an executive order reinstating his “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran. Trump also unveiled plans to rebuild Gaza, and described Netanyahu as the “right leader” for Israel.

“He’s done a great job and we’ve been friends for a long time,” Trump told reporters. “We do a great job also, and I think I think we have a combination that’s very unbeatable, actually.

Netanyahu also voiced appreciation for this friendship with Trump, and his support for Israel and the Jewish people.

“I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again,” Netanyahu said Tuesday. “You are the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House. And that’s why the people of Israel have such enormous respect for you.”

Trump previously issued sanctions against ICC officials in 2020, signing off on an asset freeze and family entry ban against them stemming from an ICC investigation into alleged U.S. actions in Afghanistan.

Trump congratulates Mahomes family on newborn daughter ahead of Super Bowl LIX: ‘A baby with great genes’

President Donald Trump gave his congratulations to Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany on the birth of their third child, daughter Golden Raye.

“Congratulations to the Chiefs GREAT Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and his very beautiful and BRILLIANT wife, Brittany, on the birth of their new baby daughter, Golden Raye. This is what I call a baby with great genes, both mother and father. It’s happy times in the wonderful Mahomes family. See you all on Sunday!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday.

Mahomes and Brittany welcomed Golden Raye on Jan. 12, just before the start of the Chiefs’ current playoff run.

Trump is set to attend Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, where he’ll watch Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs try to become the first team in history to win three straight Super Bowls.

Trump has expressed fondness for Mahomes and his wife in recent months.

A screenshot of Brittany’s Instagram account giving a like to Trump’s 2024 policy platform on Aug. 13 was shared across social media. She then posted several follow-up posts defending herself from the backlash she received for liking Trump’s post.

Trump then gave Brittany a shoutout on Truth Social days later.

“I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country,” Trump wrote. “With Crime and Illegal Immigration totally out of control, INFLATION Ravaging all Americans, and a World that is laughing at the stupidity of our hapless ‘leaders,’ it is nice to see someone who loves our Country, and wants to save it from DOOM. What a great couple – See you both at the Super Bowl!”

After Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris on Sept. 10, Trump appeared on Fox News the next morning to say he liked Brittany much “much better” than Swift.

“I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan.” Trump said on “Fox & Friends.” “I like Brittany. I think Brittany’s great.”

After the Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game Jan. 26, Trump sent a congratulatory post to Kansas City on Truth Social. But Trump did not give congratulations to the Chiefs’ opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Earlier Wednesday, when Trump was asked who he expected to win the Super Bowl, the president didn’t give a definitive answer but alluded to Mahomes’ success.

“I don’t want to say, but there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner,” Trump said when asked which team he’s rooting for.

Mahomes gave his thoughts on Trump attending the game to reporters Wednesday.

“It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president,” Mahomes said. “Someone that is at the top position in our country.”

Mahomes recognized Trump was probably talking about him and gave his thoughts about the cryptic praise from the president.

“It’s cool to hear that he’s seen me play football and respects the game that I play,” Mahomes told reporters Wednesday.

  • Trump spells out tax plan for House GOP leaders in White House meeting

Trump spells out tax plan for House GOP leaders in White House meeting

President Donald Trump gathered with House Republican leaders at the White House on Thursday to relay his tax priorities.

In the meeting, he told House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., and others that he wants to fulfill his campaign promise to stop taxing tips.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt updated reporters as the lengthy meeting was still ongoing, detailing that Trump wants “no tax on seniors, Social Security, no tax on overtime pay.”

Additionally, she said, he wants to renew his tax cuts from 2017 in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). The legislation’s provisions begin to expire later this year.

Leavitt added that Trump is focused on also adjusting the cap on State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions, which has been a sticking point for Republicans in states with high costs of living.

Further, Trump laid out to House Republicans that he is looking to “eliminate all the special tax breaks for billionaire sports team owners; close the carried interest tax deduction loophole,” and institute “tax cuts for Made in America products.”

“This will be the largest tax cut in history for middle-class working Americans. The president is committed to working with Congress to get this done,” Leavitt said.

Trump’s meeting with the House GOP leaders on taxes comes as the lower chamber attempts a one-bill budget plan that includes all of the president’s agenda priorities, including both the border and taxes.

The budget reconciliation process lowers the threshold to advance a bill in the Senate from 60 votes to just 51. And with a 53-vote majority in the upper chamber, Republicans are poised to push policies through with only support from the GOP conference.

The House Republicans have yet to move forward with a plan for the budget, however, allowing the Senate GOP to move out ahead of them.

On Wednesday, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., announced his intent to push a first bill on border, defense and energy through next week. Taxes would be addressed later in the year as part of a second budget resolution.

The move threatened the House Republicans’ positioning to lead the process and spearhead a one-bill approach.

Netanyahu gifts Trump controversial item that helped turned tide in war against Hezbollah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave President Donald Trump an unusual gift during his most recent trip to Washington, D.C., this week — a gold-plated pager.

The present was a nod to the controversial mass attack believed to have been carried out by Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency against Hezbollah Sept. 17, 2024, in which thousands of pagers, walkie-talkie-like devices and radios simultaneously exploded across Lebanon and Syria around 3:30 p.m.

A statement from Netanyahu’s office to Fox News Digital said, “The pager symbolizes the prime minister’s decision that led to a turning point in the war and marked the beginning of Hezbollah’s strategic collapse.

“This strategic operation reflects Israel’s strength, technological superiority and tactical ingenuity in confronting its adversaries.”

An image obtained by Fox News Digital showed the pager mounted to a wooden plaque with a message on the device that said, “Press with both hands,” accompanied by a double downward arrow sign, the same message that reportedly showed moments before the devices detonated.

The plaque also came with a message to Trump calling him Israel’s “greatest friend and ally.”

The statement appears to be the first time Netanyahu’s office has publicly commented on the strike against the terrorist network in the summer.

Though the attacks were intended to target Hezbollah terrorists, the explosions also injured, maimed and killed civilians, including at least two children. In total, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reported that 32 people were killed and 3,250 others were injured.

U.N. Human Rights experts condemned the operation and said the indiscriminate nature of the attacks amounted to “war crimes.”

“These attacks violate the human right to life, absent any indication that the victims posed an imminent lethal threat to anyone else at the time,” one expert told the OHCHR. “Such attacks require prompt, independent investigation to establish the truth and enable accountability for the crime of murder.”

Despite the limited number of terrorists killed in the widespread attacks, Israeli officials have championed the operation as a successful psychological blow to Hezbollah.

Though Israel was immediately suspected of being involved in the reported years-in-the-making operation, Jerusalem had not officially confirmed its role publicly before.

However, by November 2024, Israeli reports revealed comments leaked from a Cabinet meeting in which Netanyahu was quoted as saying, “The pager operation and the elimination of [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah were carried out despite the opposition of senior officials in the defense establishment and those responsible for them in the political echelon.”

The prime minister’s comments were an apparent dig at former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who he fired just weeks prior to the comments over disagreements regarding the war effort against Hamas and Hezbollah.

Neither the White House nor the U.N. immediately responded to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment.
