Bookmaker sets Travis Kelce proposal odds for Super Bowl LIX

The Super Bowl always brings some of the year’s craziest sports bets, and sometimes it has nothing to do with what happens on the field — at least during the 60 minutes of game time.

One of those bets involves a certain celebrity couple.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift were the talk of the town in Las Vegas last year, and some suggested he would propose to her on the field after the game.

Football fans will have a chance to bet on that during this year’s Super Bowl. FanDuel Sportsbook is providing the choice in Canada of whether Kelce will propose to Swift on the field after the Super Bowl’s conclusion, according to the New York Post.

The odds were set at +750 that Kelce will propose, with a $10 bet yielding $75 if it were to happen.

On the flip side, Kelce not proposing to Swift has -1500 odds, which means there is a 93.75% chance it doesn’t happen at the Caesars Superdome Feb. 9.

Kelce and Swift created one of the biggest stories in the NFL during the 2023 season, and it only heightened when the Chiefs made it to their second consecutive Super Bowl, this time against the San Francisco 49ers in “Sin City.”

Swift attended the game despite being on international legs of her Eras Tour, and they were spotted sharing a celebratory kiss on the field after the overtime victory.

This time around, there have been rumors an engagement is imminent for the power couple, especially with Swift spotted wearing an infinity ring in New York City earlier this month. Speculation has run rampant online ever since.

Swift is expected to be at the game just as she was in Kansas City for the 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills. There will also be specuation about who will be a part of her star-studded entourage in the luxury suite. She was spotted with rapper Ice Spice, actress Blake Lively and actor Miles Teller, among others, in Las Vegas.

But the main question will be whether Kelce has an extra celebration in store if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl over the Philadelphia Eagles, which they did in the 2023 Super Bowl to begin their run at history.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce says team ‘enjoys’ being the villain of the NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs have become the villains of the NFL with all their success.

The Chiefs are seeking to become the NFL’s first three-time repeat champions when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Jason Kelce asked Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ star tight end, if the Chiefs enjoyed being the villains of the NFL during a recent episode of “New Heights.”

“I love it, I love it. At one point in time, it wasn’t that,” Travis said.

“You guys were the darling of the NFL,” Jason responded.

“Yeah, I was the ‘do you feel bad for him guys,’” Travis said.

Despite making the playoffs in four of the first five years of Kelce’s career with the Chiefs, the team never advanced beyond the AFC divisional round.

It wasn’t until Patrick Mahomes became the full-time starter at quarterback, replacing Alex Smith in 2018, that the Chiefs broke through and made it to the AFC championship.

Since the 2018-2019 season, the Chiefs have yet to fall short of making the AFC championship in a season.

The Chiefs have now won three of the last five Super Bowls and have been branded the NFL’s villains.

EX-NFL STAR TOUTS ‘AWESOME’ IMPACT TAYLOR SWIFT HAS MADE SINCE GOING TO CHIEFS GAMES

Travis said the villain label brings the team together.

“I’m enjoying doing this with the guys together, the guys that we have in there, because it’s like it just makes us even more of a family. You just circle the wagons when s—, you know people are saying whatever they want. And you just band it together, and it just makes you appreciate more of what you have because people want what you have,” Kelce said.

The Chiefs are just one win away from making history and becoming one of the great dynasties in the sport’s history.

Kelce has been a big part of the Chiefs’ playoff success. He is first in NFL playoff history with 174 receptions.

Kelce is second to only Jerry Rice in NFL playoff yards and touchdowns.

Rice had 2,245 playoff receiving yards, while Kelce has 2,039, and Rice has 22 career playoff touchdowns to Kelce’s 20.

Kelce has added to his playoff resume in this Chiefs run to the Super Bowl. The star tight end had his best game of the season against the Houston Texans in the divisional round when he caught seven receptions for 117 yards and one touchdown.

Tony Romo accuses Travis Kelce of flopping after key Chiefs TD in AFC title game

The dramatic AFC Championship between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills included two officiating storylines that were the talk of the NFL world during the game and one that was a bit more underappreciated.

Patrick Mahomes’ touchdown run in the second quarter saw a penalty come flying at the end of the play. Bills safety Damar Hamlin tried to tackle Mahomes before he reached the end zone but was unsuccessful.

Mahomes’ momentum carried him and Hamlin a few more yards before the quarterback was tackled. Travis Kelce came over and gave Hamlin a few extra words after the touchdown. It wasn’t clear what the tight end said.

Bills defensive lineman Jordan Phillips came over in defense of Hamlin and got into the Chiefs star’s grill. Kelce flailed backward and Phillips was called for a penalty.

Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback-turned-CBS broadcaster, noticed it and called Kelce out.

“Kelce knows how to get under your skin,” Romo said. “And Phillips comes in … [Kelce] tries for the flop.”

The controversial calls around the Chiefs have become a theme of their playoff run so far. Two questionable penalties were called on the Houston Texans in the Chiefs’ divisional round win, and Mahomes tried for a third when he flailed out of bounds after a run.

Mahomes admitted he went a little too far to try to draw a flag.

“I would say that the only one I felt like I probably did too much was the one on the sideline where I didn’t get a flag and the ref saw it and didn’t throw a flag, and I understood it immediately,” he said in a radio interview last week.

“But at the same time, the one that everybody’s talking about where I fell down, it’s like I was just trying to get out of the way of getting smoked by the defensive lineman running in.

“So, I’ll try to keep doing that and not take those hits because that’s the smart way to stay in the football game.”

Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift celebrate Chiefs’ AFC Championship win

Taylor Swift was seen entering Arrowhead Stadium to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs in their effort to make history and compete for a third straight Super Bowl championship.

Swift was far from the focal point of the contest as the Chiefs topped the Buffalo Bills. The CBS broadcast showed her reacting to a big play in the game along with at least two shots of her hanging out with her mother, Andrea, and Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna.

The next time Swift was shown was on the field as she and Donna watched Travis celebrate the team’s third consecutive conference title. Cameras also caught the two lovebirds sharing a few kisses in the mix of the celebration.

Swift was a major focus for the NFL and broadcasts during the 2023 season as she and the Chiefs’ star tight end announced themselves to the world as a couple. The “Swift Effect” was real, and her fandom drew an increase in viewership for the game.

However, Swift herself expressed some dismay with the attention she received in a 2023 interview with Time magazine.

“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she said. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.

“I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads,” she added, referencing the hype that came with her appearances – good and bad.

This season, Swift was seen at Arrowhead Stadium a few times, but she also had to continue with her “Eras Tour.” When the Chiefs were off, she and Kelce were spotted in New York City having dinner multiple times.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce says he ‘used to dream of being like’ what Josh Allen is as quarterback

Before he became one of the best tight ends in the NFL ever, Travis Kelce was an all-conference high school quarterback who passed for more than 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns in his senior year.

He committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats football program as a tight end and played quarterback in wildcat formations. He emerged as a better pass-catcher than passer and became a third-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013.

Kelce admitted on Friday ahead of the AFC Championship against the Buffalo Bills that he wanted to be a quarterback much in the style of Josh Allen.

“Josh is who I used to dream of being like in the NFL,” he told reporters. “Big, athletic quarterback. Big arm. Being able to be a dual-threat guy.

“His ability to do everything – you can tell, he really took the bull by the horns and been their leader up front, and channeled that. Guys come in and out of the building and he’s the main guy that makes them go, and I have a lot of respect for that guy.”

Kelce had been gifted the opportunity to throw the football three times in the regular season and once in the playoffs. He came through in the clutch in the postseason, throwing a touchdown pass in the 2021 divisional-round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Allen, a 6-foot-5, 237-pound gunslinger, has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and is vying for the first NFL MVP award of his career.

He’s been the face of the Bills since he took over the starting job. He had 3,731 passing yards and 28 touchdown passes this season. He also ran for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

It’s safe to say the Kansas City Chiefs have one less fan.

The Chiefs are looking to get into their fifth Super Bowl since the turn of the decade, but they have to get through the Buffalo Bills first. But history is on Kansas City’s side entering Sunday’s AFC Championship Game: They are 4-0 against Buffalo in the playoffs in that span.

And if there’s one person who knows what the Chiefs are capable of, it’s Kayla Nicole, the ex-girlfriend of star tight end Travis Kelce.

On the “I Am Athlete Daily” podcast, host Brandon Marshall admitted he didn’t want to get “messy” by bringing up the Chiefs with Nicole, but the two shared some analysis.

“I think there is nothing like that environment. That’s the loudest stadium in the league,” she said. “The energy is crazy. I think [quarterback] Patrick [Mahomes], too, is just a seasoned vet at this point. There is no panic, there is no sudden decisions. This is a well-thought-out offense. [Mahomes] studies the game like nobody else. Oh my God, yeah, that’s all he does. He’s a student of the game.

“Then you got [Chiefs coach] Andy Reid, and I think his playbook is crazy. That’s a known fact about him. Their offense is OD. They have guys they can throw the ball to that’s not going to drop it in the end zone.”

But despite the positive words, she made her rooting interest clear.

“As much as I’d love to see [Bills quarterback] Josh [Allen] pull it off, I don’t know if that’s going to happen. … [It’s] something new. I’m bored,” she quipped.

Patrick Mahomes opens up on Travis Kelce potentially retiring: ‘If it’s his last game, let’s go get him a win’

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes answered questions about tight end Travis Kelce potentially retiring after this season during an interview on 96.5 The Fan on Tuesday.

Mahomes claimed he hasn’t had any discussions whether the tight end plans to retire, but acknowledged that if he does, then Mahomes wants the team to send him out on a high note.

“I have no idea. He hasn’t said anything to me if he’s thinking that,” Mahomes said, later adding, “If it is his last game, let’s go out there and get him a win. If it’s not his last game, let’s go out and get him a win anyway.”

Mahomes also brought up the fact that Kelce is currently under contract through the end of next season, but that the tight end also has a lifestyle that he may enjoy in retirement.

“I know he signed a two-year extension before the season. It seems like he still loves football. But he also has a great life, as well,” Mahomes said.

Kelce signed a $34.25 million contract back in April, after some speculation that the 2023 season would be his last.

Kelce has been Mahomes’ favorite target since the quarterback took over as the full-time starter in 2018. The duo has won three Super Bowls together, and is currently on a mission to win a fourth and become the first team in NFL history to win three in a row.

Mahomes and Kelce have also helped make the Chiefs one of the most popular franchises in all of sports in recent years, as Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift has grown the team’s fan base by large margins among women.

“Either way, I just appreciate every time I step onto the field with that guy knowing that he’s a true legend of not only the Chiefs, but of the NFL,” Mahomes said.

Kelce himself opened up on the possibility of retiring after this season during an interview on “The Stephen A. Smith Show” on Jan. 15.

“I love everything that I’m doing in this building, but at the end of the day I’m not having that extreme success on the field as I have individually,” Kelce said.

“I’ll re-evaluate it like I always do, and I’ll probably tell myself how much I love this thing, and I’ll come back next year. I still love coming into the building every day. Does it get hard? Yeah, but I’m not doing it for the stats. I’m doing it for the greatness, the legacy that we’ve created here in Kansas City,” he added “I can’t fathom what it would feel like just being able to say I’m satisfied because I’m still hungry to go and get something right now.”

After the Chiefs’ most recent playoff victory against the Houston Texans last Saturday, Kelce sent a cryptic message on social media that fueled further speculation that the end of his career is near.

“Playoff football is the most meaningful football that you’ll ever play in your life,” he said in a video posted to the Chiefs’ Instagram account. “I cherish every single play, man. I really do. When you’re in it, you’re always trying to strive for greatness.

“Being greater than what you are. You know, obviously there’s a historic run and something that we can achieve that no other team has ever achieved. You know, that fuels you.”

At 35 years old, Kelce finished the 2024 regular season with 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games, and didn’t miss a single game due to injury.

Kelce has also said he has support from Swift to keep playing if he wants to.

  • Travis Kelce refuses to speak about penalties against Texans for hits on Patrick Mahomes as fans rage

Travis Kelce refuses to speak about penalties against Texans for hits on Patrick Mahomes as fans rage

National outrage over questionable penalties called during the Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff game against the Houston Texans made its way to Travis Kelce’s podcast Wednesday, but he stayed on the sidelines of the debate.

After NFL referees called two roughing the passer penalties after hits on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during Saturday’s divisional round game, Texans players and head coach DeMeco Ryans suggested officials sided with Kansas City. Many fans expressed grievances about the questionable penalties on social media.

Kelce and his brother Jason read some of the outraged tweets during Wendesday’s episode of their podcast, “New Heights,” but Travis refused to speak about the issue.

“I’d like to plead the Fifth,” the tight end said, jokingly referring to his constitutional right to remain silent.

Jason described one of the penalties as “completely, absolutely ridiculous.”

“He didn’t even get touched,” Jason said. “I understand why they called it. I just think it was a bad call.”

Travis is one of the few people to remain silent on the matter as the penalties were among the most debated topics in football over the last week.

Mahomes has since defended referees for the penalties multiple times. The quarterback was asked by reporters Wednesday if he believed referees were giving him preferential treatment.

“I don’t feel that way,” Mahomes answered. “At the end of the day, the referees are doing their best to call the game as fair and as proper as they possibly can. And all you can do is go out there and play the game that you love as hard as you can and live with the results. … I think that’s what we preach here in Kansas City.

“You get new referees every year, you get new circumstances and you never can really tell because every play’s different. And that’s what makes the NFL so special. I feel like I’ve just continued to play the game, and I just try to win. And whatever happens kind of happens.”

Mahomes defended the referees Tuesday during a radio interview on 96.5 The Fan.

“I‘ve kind of learned that no matter what happens during the game, something’s going to come out about it if you win and you continue to win. So, I don’t really pay attention to it,” Mahomes said.

“I mean, obviously, I’ve been on both sides of it as far as how I felt the calls were made, but, at the end of the day, man, those guys are doing their best to make the best calls and keep it to where the players are making the plays in the game.

“And that’s what decides the outcome. And obviously there was a call here or there that people didn’t agree with, but, at the same time, I think there was a lot of other plays that really decided the outcome of that football game.”

Head referee Clay Martin explained the calls to a pool reporter after the game, saying one of the controversial calls was a result of “forcible contact to the face mask area,” which warranted a flag. He said there was forcible contact to Mahomes’ “hairline” on another unnecessary roughness call.
