Ryan Preece was thinking about what really matters in life, as his No. 60 car was airborne with just five laps to go in the 67th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday night.

Preece was in the middle of the pack when a wreck at the top of the race impacted him in the worst way, with Christopher Bell’s No. 20 car smashing into him, causing his vehicle to fly through the Florida night.

When Preece’s car touched the track again, it was flipped upside down, still traveling at a high rate of speed before ultimately getting back to normal and slamming into the wall.

Thankfully, Preece walked out of the wreck unscathed, though there was a moment while he was in the air that he started to think about family, specifically his daughter, Rebecca Marie.

“Yeah, I don’t know if it’s the diffuser or what that makes these cars like a sheet of plywood when you walk out on a windy day,” Preece told FOX Sports in an interview after getting off the track.

“But, when the car took off like that, and it got real quiet, all I thought about was my daughter. So, I’m lucky to walk away.”

Multiple angles of the wreck showed just how scary the wreck was, including a look from the No. 43 car of Erik Jones, who was involved in the spin-outs as well.

From Jones’ vantage point, Bell’s car coming off the right wall came out of nowhere, and Preece got all of it.

The front of the vehicle immediately lifted into the air, and like Preece said, the windy conditions – two delays came in this race from inclement weather – made the car lift off the track altogether.

This is the second time in Preece’s career he has flipped at Daytona, so while he has experienced this before, it is never a good feeling to have to go through that.

Preece was reflective with Frontstretch after the race as well, adding that “something needs to be done” with the cars because they should not be lifting off the course like he did.

“The one thing I want to say as a father, as a racer, is we keep beating on a door hoping for a different result. We know where there’s a problem at Superspeedways. So, I don’t want to be the example of when it finally gets somebody – I don’t want it to be me. I got a two-year-old daughter, and just like a lot of us, we have families.

“So, something needs to be done because cars lifting off the ground like that, that honestly felt worse than Daytona in ’23.”

  • A.J. Brown says winning Super Bowl ‘wasn’t what I thought it would be;’ love for game ‘comes when I dominate’

A.J. Brown says winning Super Bowl ‘wasn’t what I thought it would be;’ love for game ‘comes when I dominate’

Winning a Super Bowl is overrated, according to A.J. Brown.

The Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver earned his first Lombardi Trophy Sunday, scoring a touchdown in the Birds’ dominant 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

But it seems like Brown is already past the title.

In an Instagram post, Brown said his time taking in the Lombardi Trophy win is already over, and he doesn’t exactly seem to be on top of the world.

“After a few days, I’ve had time to reflect on being a champion. I tried to feel how everyone made it seem to be a champion and unfortunately it was short lived.. two days to be exact lol,” Brown’s caption, attached to a photo of his touchdown from the game, said.

“I’ve never been a champion at the highest level before but I thought my hard work would be justified by winning it all. It wasn’t. My thrill for this game comes when i dominate,” he added. “It’s the Hunt that does it for me. It’s when the Db drops his head and surrender because he can’t F with me . The Intense battles. Early mornings. Late nights. Sacrifices. I love putting smiles on peoples faces, don’t get me wrong but it just wasn’t what I thought it would be.”

That portion of the caption raised some eyebrows, but his words seemed to be those of a true competitor.

“It’s the journey that I love the most. BACK 2 Work!”

Maybe the on-field party was anticlimactic because the game had been decided so early in the game.

But maybe Brown will think differently when the Birds traverse downtown Philly for their parade Friday.

  • Trump suggests US may have less debt than thought because of fraud

Trump suggests US may have less debt than thought because of fraud

President Donald Trump said Sunday that the U.S. national debt could be smaller than thought because of fraud.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested that the administration and Elon Musk’s efficiency team found irregularities at the Treasury Department that could mean the U.S. government’s more than $36 trillion debt isn’t that high.

“We’re even looking at Treasuries,” Trump said. “There could be a problem – you’ve been reading about that, with Treasuries and that could be an interesting problem.”

“It could be that a lot of those things don’t count. In other words, that some of that stuff that we’re finding is very fraudulent, therefore maybe we have less debt than we thought,” he added.

It wasn’t clear from Trump’s comments whether he was referring to debt service or other government payments that are handled by the Treasury Department.

FOX Business reached out to the Treasury Department for clarification.

“It is virtually impossible that President Trump’s comments refer to the debt held by the public, including foreign holders,” said Maria Vassalou, head of the Pictet Research Institute. “This is the reason the market is not reacting and any reaction would be based on misunderstandings or misinformation.”

She added that about one-fifth of the gross U.S. federal debt is held in government accounts that are mostly related to trust funds for Social Security and Medicare, adding that Trump’s comments “most likely refer to that portion of U.S. debt.”

“(Markets) do care and should care, absolutely, given the $35 odd trillion in public debt,” said Martin Whetton, head of financial markets strategy at Westpac in Sydney. “In short, until it is clarified it is meaningless.”

Given the lack of certainty over what Trump intended to say, financial markets have focused on the economy and the Federal Reserve’s path for interest rate cuts later this year.

The Labor Department on Friday reported the U.S. economy added 143,000 jobs in January, below the 170,000 jobs expected by LSEG economists.

The market’s expectations around the Fed’s plan for interest rate cuts were little changed by the news, with the probability of the Fed leaving rates unchanged at its March meeting rising to more than 91% from 86% a week ago, according to the CME FedWatch tool.

  • Rand Paul recoils at Trump’s Gaza takeover plans: ‘I thought we voted for America First’

Rand Paul recoils at Trump’s Gaza takeover plans: ‘I thought we voted for America First’

After President Donald Trump announced that America “will take over the Gaza strip,” Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., pushed back against the idea, suggesting that the move would betray the “America First” principle Trump voters expected.

During his inauguration speech last month, Trump unequivocally declared that throughout his administration he will “put America first,” echoing a longstanding pillar of his political philosophy, which he also expressed during his 2017 inaugural address.

But Paul is throwing a red flag in response to Trump’s newly unveiled Gaza plans.

“The pursuit for peace should be that of the Israelis and the Palestinians. I thought we voted for America First. We have no business contemplating yet another occupation to doom our treasure and spill our soldiers blood,” Paul declared in a Wednesday post on X.

The senator made the comment in response to a post in which Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared on Tuesday, “Gaza MUST BE FREE from Hamas. As @POTUS shared today, the United States stands ready to lead and Make Gaza Beautiful Again. Our pursuit is one of lasting peace in the region for all people.”

While delivering remarks alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhyahu on Tuesday, Trump said that Palestinians should be settled outside the Gaza Strip, and that the U.S. will transform the region, which he described as a “demolition site.”

“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip,” Trump declared, saying, “we’ll own it, and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site … level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”

“I do see a long term ownership position,” Trump said of the region.

THE HISTORY OF GAZA AMID TRUMP’S PLAN TO REBUILD ENCLAVE

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., called Trump’s proposal “ethnic cleansing.”

“This president is openly calling for ethnic cleansing while sitting next to a genocidal war criminal. He’s perfectly fine cutting off working Americans from federal funds while the funding to the Israeli government continues flowing,” she declared in a post on X.

In a post on another X account she declared, “Palestinians aren’t going anywhere. This president can only spew this fanatical bulls— because of bipartisan support in Congress for funding genocide and ethnic cleansing. It’s time for my two-state solution colleagues to speak up.”

Rep. Diana Harshbarger, R-Tenn., welcomed the president’s remarks.

“This is what the leader of the free world looks like, folks. President Trump campaigned on securing peace in Gaza, and he’s doing just that. Promises made, promises kept — it’ll never get old,” she said in a tweet.

  • Eagles’ Brandon Graham expects to play in Super Bowl LIX after what he thought was career-ending injury

Eagles’ Brandon Graham expects to play in Super Bowl LIX after what he thought was career-ending injury

A little over two months ago, 36-year-old Brandon Graham was contemplating whether he had played his last NFL snap after tearing his triceps.

Shortly after the injury, the Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher emotionally admitted that it was “pointing toward” his career not ending on his own terms.

Graham even admitted that he was “content” if he were to never play another down – but he seems to have reversed course.

During Super Bowl LIX opening night in New Orleans, Graham said he is “feeling good” and is “excited to be able to play in this game.”

Graham has several hurdles to leap in order to play – a successful week of practice is rather important, but Graham said he is “just enjoying the moment.”

“When I got hurt, I saw it as a possibility,” he said, regarding playing in the Super Bowl. “I talked to people and they said it was a possibility. I rehabbed as hard as I could… So when the time came they would give me the chance.”

TRUMP EXPECTED TO ATTEND SUPER BOWL LIX IN NEW ORLEANS

Graham was on the losing side of the Super Bowl two years ago against Kansas City when he made little impact during his 18 defensive snaps on a slick field that made rushing the passer difficult for everyone.

He did, however, cause the strip-sack against Tom Brady in Super Bowl LII that catapulted the Birds to that title.

Graham’s return would provide an emotional boost, but he hopes to deliver more than that. He had 3.5 sacks in his 11 games before getting hurt.
