‘Exciting chapter’: Interior Sec takes aim at Biden oil lease ban, ‘coercive’ climate policies in Day 1 orders

President Donald Trump’s administration is taking aim at various Biden-era environmental rules and regulations by stripping the energy sector of “coercive” climate policies and oil lease bans, and launching internal investigations into agency actions that “burden” energy development.

Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum, who was sworn-in on Friday, spent his first full day on the job implementing six new orders that reinforce Trump’s agenda and set the tone for the department over the next four years.

The secretary’s orders include examining ways to eliminate “harmful” and “coercive” climate policies, lifting Biden-era bans on oil and gas leases, and conducting a review of the legislation that funded the former administration’s green energy agenda, known as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the Department of the Interior,” Burgum said in a statement. “We are committed to working collaboratively to unlock America’s full potential in energy dominance and economic development to make life more affordable for every American family while showing the world the power of America’s natural resources and innovation.”

In a press release issued on Monday, Burgum announced the department’s first initiatives.

The DOI pledged to expedite the completion of all authorized infrastructure and environmental projects to address the National Energy Emergency, which was declared by Trump on Inauguration Day.

The department will also conduct a review of all appropriations from the IRA, after former President Joe Biden spent the remaining months of his presidency trying to rapidly dish out funds from the bill to fund green energy projects across the country.

Additionally, the DOI said that for every new regulation issued, the department will eliminate at least 10 existing ones as part of Trump’s “deregulation agenda.”

Burgum also demanded “immediate compliance” with Trump’s overturning of Biden’s oil and gas lease ban, specifically in the Outer Continental Shelf, and said the department will be conducting a review of all agency actions that “potentially burden the development of domestic energy resources.”

The DOI, on Monday, also withdrew a June 2021 Biden administration order that halted oil and gas leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a coastal plain that the first and second Trump administrations have eyed as an oil and gas resource.

“Together, we will ensure that our policies reflect the needs of our communities, respect tribal sovereignty, and drive innovation that will keep the U.S. at the forefront of energy and environmental leadership,” Burgum said in a statement.

Climate activist groups, however, have not been supportive of Burgum’s nomination.

“From opening more public lands for extraction to attacking countless protections of lands, water, and wildlife, it’s clear that President Trump is committed to expanding fossil fuels and catering to industry at the expense of our climate, public lands and waters, and wildlife,” Earthjustice, an environmental law group, wrote in opposition to Burgum’s nomination.

President Donald Trump took a shot at past administrations’ handling of Afghanistan as he welcomed the Florida Panthers to the White House to celebrate their Stanley Cup title.

The Panthers were the first team to visit the White House in Trump’s second term as president.

The president spoke highly of team owner Vincent Viola before he let him say a few words about his team that won the Stanley Cup in an epic seven-game series against the Edmonton Oilers. Trump called Viola a “real champion” who loves the military.

“He’s a real champion in everything he’s ever done. Loves the military,” Trump said. “First thing he did, I see him, ‘You gotta do this with the Army. You gotta move them here. You gotta put…’ He’s giving me all the instructions. You love the military.

“You know, we shoulda had you in Afghanistan instead of the characters we had. It would’ve turned out a little bit different.”

As the U.S. finalized its pull out from Afghanistan, suicide bombers launched an attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport’s Abbey Gate. Thirteen American servicemembers were killed along with 170 Afghan civilians.

In Trump’s first administration, Viola was in the running for U.S. Army secretary before he withdrew from consideration. The billionaire businessman attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and eventually served with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell.

Viola bought the team in 2013 and the team has made the playoff six times, including five straight from the 2019-20 season to the 2023-24 season. The team made the Stanley Cup Final in 2023 only to lose to the Vegas Golden Knights in five games.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, is taking aim at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and, according to senior congressional sources, moved to seize control of the independent agency over the weekend.

The senior congressional sources told Fox News that more than 50 senior USAID staff members were placed on administrative leave and subjected to a gag order, meaning they were not allowed to communicate with anyone outside the agency without approval.

Signs were also removed from USAID’s headquarters in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C., and the DOGE team took over the computer systems, the sources said. USAID is responsible for distributing civilian foreign aid and development assistance to countries around the globe. The agency managed approximately $40 billion in appropriations last year, according to the Congressional Research Service.

On Sunday, the Associated Press reported that the Trump administration placed two top security chiefs at USAID on leave after refusing to turn over classified material in restricted areas to DOGE.

RUBIO PAUSES FOREIGN AID FROM STATE DEPARTMENT AND USAID TO ENSURE IT PUTS ‘AMERICA FIRST’

After initially being refused access to USAID’s classified information, DOGE eventually gained that access on Saturday, allowing them to see things like intelligence reports, a current and a former U.S. official told the AP.

The DOGE team members lacked high enough security clearance to access the information, so the two USAID security officials – John Voorhees and deputy Brian McGill – believed they were legally obligated to deny access.

On Sunday, Musk took aim at USAID on his social media platform X, saying, “USAID is a criminal organization. Time for it to die.”

He also wrote several other posts about the agency, saying things like, “USAID was a viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America” and “USAID is evil.”

The latter was in response to a post suggesting USAID helped fund coronavirus research in Wuhan, China, which referred to an interaction posted on Forbes between Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and now former USAID Administrator Samantha Power in April 2023.

ABC News reported that those familiar with USAID were questioning whether the moves at USAID were being made in an effort to move the agency under the State Department, where there could be better accountability.

Last week, at least 56 USAID officials were placed on administrative leave with full pay and benefits, and several hundred contractors based in Washington and elsewhere were laid off.

The actions came after Secretary of State Marco Rubio, acting on Trump’s executive order, paused all U.S. foreign assistance funded by or through the State Department and USAID.

The 90-day pause has halted thousands of U.S.-funded humanitarian, development and security programs worldwide and forced aid organizations to lay off hundreds of employees because they can’t make payroll.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers star Austin Carr took a swipe at President Donald Trump on Thursday as he congratulated some of the team’s players for making the All-Star Game.

Carr, who serves as a TV analyst for the team, took his swipe in a post on X.

The 76-year-old known as “Mr. Cavalier” did not specify why he wanted to impeach the president, but later tried to explain what happened in a follow-up post.

He set his sights on DEI standards at the Federal Aviation Administration and highlighted efforts by the Biden administration to lower aviation standards, though he acknowledged that the cause of Wednesday night’s crash has yet to be determined.

“We must have only the highest standards for those who work in our aviation system,” Trump said. “Only the highest aptitude — you have to be the highest intellect — and psychologically superior people, were allowed to qualify for air traffic controllers.

“We have to have our smartest people. It doesn’t matter what they look like, how they speak, who they are. What matters is intellect, talent. The word ‘talent.’ They have to be talented geniuses,” he continued. “We can’t have regular people doing that job. They won’t be able to do it.”

Surely, referees in the National Football League don’t actually favor the Kansas City Chiefs, do they?

Well, Rob Gronkowski has the mind of the NFL fan and thinks that something is up.

The Chiefs are in their third consecutive Super Bowl, and it’s fair to say they got some benefit from the officiating in the AFC title game against the Buffalo Bills.

A pivotal 4th-and-1 rush by Bills quarterback Josh Allen was ruled short (it could be argued the Bills crossed the marker on third down). The Chiefs responded by scoring a touchdown on the next drive. And while the Bills did tie it up, the field was clearly tilted afterward.

This version of the Chiefs is being talked about like Gronk’s New England Patriots used to be talked about: favoritism from the refs but still difficult to beat. Gronk joked in a recent interview with Fox News Digital that even his quarterback Tom Brady got the favor of the whistle.

“It was Tom, but he deserved it at the time. He was an 18-year vet, and he took his punishment as a young buck during his first eight years in the league. Oh my lord, he used to get lit up. It was understandable he got calls,” Gronk said.

And perhaps the Chiefs have gotten that same benefit, Gronkowski added, saying the refs are “definitely … more lenient” toward the Chiefs.

“It’s been shown throughout the regular season and extending into the playoffs,” Gronk quipped.

He later added, “I just feel like there’s something, like, maybe give them an extra call or two. Don’t make it too obvious, but make it a little obvious.”

Gronkowski will get to see firsthand how much the refs actually favor the Chiefs, if at all, as he’ll be in New Orleans on behalf of Bounty to clean up the mess that comes with dirty eating during Super Bowl Sunday.

“You can’t have football without wings, there’s no doubt about that. But you can’t have wings without Bounty,” Gronk said ahead of his trip to Bourbon Street, where there will be food aplenty.

His wingman, Saints legend Drew Brees, will try to show him the best wings in town, but he doesn’t think anything will beat his hometown Buffalo wings, similar to the Chiefs.

Gronkowski added that even though the Chiefs may have some help from the zebras, it’s “no excuse” for the Bills or anyone to fall short when they have their chances.

“You have opportunities to beat them, you got to overcome all situations, and the Buffalo Bills need to make championship plays in championship moments, and they didn’t come through. You got to make plays in order to beat the Chiefs, and you can’t blame it on the refs,” Gronk continued.

“It doesn’t matter, you still got to beat the Chiefs, and you still got to come through with big plays at the end of the game in order to beat them, and no team has done that yet.”

CEO takes stand against fines for flying massive American flag: It creates ‘noise, unnecessary distractions’

Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis discusses his refusal to take down a massive American flag despite fines on ‘The Bottom Line.’

Daily fines won’t stop Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis from flying a huge Old Glory high and proud.

“This isn’t the first time this has happened. We’ve been dealing with this for years. And we have these flags around the country, and they’ve been part of my fabric since I was a little kid,” Lemonis said on “The Bottom Line” Monday.

“We dealt with it in Statesville; Morgan Hill, California; Onalaska, Wisconsin; and now Greenville, North Carolina. And I think this is a perfect example… of local and city and state municipalities putting regulations on businesses that don’t advance the business. They just create more noise and unnecessary distractions.”

If you’ve driven by one of 250 of Camping World’s RV dealerships, the massive and prominent American flags flying on their properties are hard to miss. But when Camping World’s Greenville location put theirs up in October, according to the New York Post, problems began with local zoning officials.

Camping World’s flag is allegedly 15 times the allowed size and its 120-foot flagpole is too large, as well. Since Friday, the company has racked up penalties amounting to about $1,150.

Lemonis showed no interest in taking down the flag anytime soon.

In response to Fox News Digital, the city of Greenville clarified that an addendum to the sizing regulation was in the works, and will permit Camping World to continue flying its flag.

“I do it because I believe in it. I’m an immigrant in this country. This country gave me an opportunity to earn a living and to employ 13,000 people. I just choose to have a big flag because I’ve had one since I was a little kid,” the CEO explained.

Business executive and entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis addresses the lingering divisiveness and ‘warrior environment’ that’s brewing in Washington on ‘Making Money.’

“And I know that’s my way of expressing to the veterans and our customer base how much we believe in it,” he added.

He argued that the city’s crackdown on his patriotism actually hurts business and represents “a small example of why things [get] more expensive.”

The Staten Island-based artist says ‘wokeism kills people’ as he protests a new driving tax that is forcing more NYC commuters and visitors to take the subway amid a string of horrific crimes there.

“The business of selling champers is to enjoy the outside,” Lemonis pointed out. “When you regulate business to the point where they have to add layers of expense, and they need to still maintain profitability, you have essentially created inflation to regulation.”

‘Barron’s Roundtable’ panelists take a closer look at the President Donald Trump’s impact on the markets and more.

The U.S. economy entered 2025 with a steady hand, according to the National Association of Business Economics, a group of the nation’s leading economists, with the chance of a prolonged slowdown falling.

“The odds of a recession continue to diminish according to panelists, with the downside risks largely tied to uncertainty over the implementation and timing of policy proposals from the new administration” said NABE President Emily Kolinski Morris, CBE, global chief economist, Ford Motor Company, in the group’s January Business Conditions Survey taken from Dec. 30, 2024, to Jan. 13, 2025.

President Donald Trump, who took office a week ago, hit the ground running, rolling out a series of pro-business executive orders tied to making the U.S. more open to cryptocurrency, easing energy restrictions and freezing the hiring of federal workers as his DOGE, Department of Government Efficiency arm, assesses areas to cut waste.

Additionally, he announced a $500 billion investment from OpenAI, Softbank and Oracle to expand artificial intelligence in the U.S. He is also threatening tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China.

Still, inflation remains a headwind. While 65% of NABE’s economists see prices stable over the next three months, 35% expect price increases, an uptick from 28% polled in October.

The consumer price index last month rose 2.9% annually and 0.4% vs. November. Core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy, rose 3.2% annually. Inflation is well below its 9.1% peak in July 2022 but still above the Federal Reserve’s preferred 2% goal.

TRUMP BLASTS BOFA, REIGNITES DEBANKING CONTROVERSY

Trump, during his remote appearance before the World Economic Forum marking his return to office, blamed the Biden administration for high inflation.

“Over the past four years, our government racked up $8 trillion in wasteful deficit spending and inflicted nation wrecking energy restrictions, crippling regulations and hidden taxes like never before. The result is the worst inflation crisis in modern history, and sky-high interest rates for our citizens and even throughout the world, food prices and the price of almost every other thing known to mankind went through the roof,” Trump told attendees in Davos, Switzerland. He also took a jab at Fed Chair Jerome Powell.

“I’ll demand that interest rates drop immediately. And likewise, they should be dropping all over the world. Interest rates should follow us,” he said.

Policymakers are expected to leave rates unchanged at the conclusion of the two-day meeting Wednesday, according to the CME’s FedWatch Tool, which tracks the probability of rate moves. That will keep the Federal Funds Rate between 4.25%-4.50%.

On Thursday, GDP for the fourth quarter is seen rising 3%, in line with the 3.1% reported in the third quarter.
