Super Bowl champion Dana Stubblefield freed from prison after rape conviction gets overturned

Super Bowl champion and former San Francisco 49ers star Dana Stubblefield was released from prison Tuesday after his 2020 rape conviction was vacated by a California appeals court.

Stubblefield, who is Black, had his conviction overturned after the Sixth Court of Appeals determined prosecutors had made racially discriminatory statements during his trial.

The Sixth Court of Appeals found that the prosecutor violated California’s Racial Justice Act of 2020, which was passed during the summer of racial injustice after the police killing George Floyd.

Prosecutors said during the trial that police had never searched Stubblefield’s house and had never introduced a gun into evidence, saying it was because he was a famous Black man, and it would “open up a storm of controversy,” according to the appeals court’s decision.

The court said that by determining that Stubblefield’s race had been a factor in law enforcement’s decision to forgo searching his house, prosecutors had implied that the house would have been searched and that a gun would not have been found had Stubblefield not been Black.

Stubblefield has remained in prison since December because a lower court judge said he didn’t have the jurisdiction to grant bail or release.

Stubblefield’s release was granted after the state attorney general’s office and appeals office weighed in.

Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Hector Ramon granted Stubblefield’s release Friday.

Stubblefield had served nearly four years of his 15-year sentence.

“Finally, an innocent man is no longer sitting in a cage away from his family,” Stubblefield’s defense attorney, Kenneth Rosenfeld, said in a statement.

Stubblefield was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison in October 2020, when he was convicted of raping a developmentally disabled woman in 2015 who prosecutors said he lured to his home with a promise of a babysitting job.

Defense attorneys argued no rape occurred and that Stubblefield said the woman consented to sex in exchange for money.

Stubblefield played in the NFL for 11 years and was named defensive rookie of the year with the 49ers in 1993.

The three-time Pro Bowler was named defensive player of the year in 1997 after recording 15 sacks.

After five seasons with the 49ers, Stubblefield played for the Washington Redskins for three seasons before rejoining the 49ers for two more seasons.

After his second stint with the 49ers, Stubblefield played one season for the Oakland Raiders before retiring after the 2003 season.

Kadarius Toney, Chiefs’ Super Bowl hero, arrested for allegedly strangling a woman

Former New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last month after police say he strangled a woman.

Toney is accused of putting his hand around a woman’s throat, squeezing “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe,” according to TMZ Sports.

Toney was accused of taking the woman’s phone during the altercation so she couldn’t call authorities, leaving her with marks on her neck and hemorrhaging in her eyes.

The 2021 first-round pick had a warrant out for his arrest Jan. 15, one day before the alleged altercation, and he was arrested Thursday.

He was charged with one count of aggravated assault-strangulation and another charge of obstructing/harrassing 911 calls, according to jail records.

Fox News Digital reached out to a representative of Toney for comment.

Toney was the 20th pick out of Florida four years ago by the Giants. After a tumultuous tenure in New York, he was sent to the Kansas City Chiefs. His record-breaking punt return in the 2023 Super Bowl and fourth quarter touchdown helped the Chiefs to that year’s Super Bowl victory.

Eagles defensive star Josh Sweat believes he ‘should’ve’ been named Super Bowl LIX MVP

The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense shut out the Kansas City Chiefs for most of Sunday’s Super Bowl, giving the team a 34-0 lead before Patrick Mahomes responded late in the second half.

One of the team’s top defensive stars believes his performance was worthy of the MVP award.

The Chiefs’ offense was limited to 23 yards in the first half, and Mahomes was picked off twice, including rookie Cooper DeJean’s pick-six on his 22nd birthday.

The Eagles’ defense had a field day. And Sweat, whose performance went beyond the stat line, believed that was enough to earn the MVP honor.

A.J. Brown says winning Super Bowl ‘wasn’t what I thought it would be;’ love for game ‘comes when I dominate’

Winning a Super Bowl is overrated, according to A.J. Brown.

The Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver earned his first Lombardi Trophy Sunday, scoring a touchdown in the Birds’ dominant 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

But it seems like Brown is already past the title.

In an Instagram post, Brown said his time taking in the Lombardi Trophy win is already over, and he doesn’t exactly seem to be on top of the world.

“After a few days, I’ve had time to reflect on being a champion. I tried to feel how everyone made it seem to be a champion and unfortunately it was short lived.. two days to be exact lol,” Brown’s caption, attached to a photo of his touchdown from the game, said.

“I’ve never been a champion at the highest level before but I thought my hard work would be justified by winning it all. It wasn’t. My thrill for this game comes when i dominate,” he added. “It’s the Hunt that does it for me. It’s when the Db drops his head and surrender because he can’t F with me . The Intense battles. Early mornings. Late nights. Sacrifices. I love putting smiles on peoples faces, don’t get me wrong but it just wasn’t what I thought it would be.”

That portion of the caption raised some eyebrows, but his words seemed to be those of a true competitor.

“It’s the journey that I love the most. BACK 2 Work!”

Maybe the on-field party was anticlimactic because the game had been decided so early in the game.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce dishes on NFL playing future after crushing Super Bowl loss

Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce isn’t making any decisions on his potential retirement – yet.

Kelce, 35, opened up about what his NFL future holds during a recent episode of “New Heights.”

“I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year and right now I am just kicking everything down the road. I am kicking every can I can down the road,” Kelce said.

The three-time Super Bowl champion completed his 12th NFL season, which ended with a 40-22 demolition by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

“I am not making any crazy decisions, but right now the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding there’s a lot that goes into this thing. I’ve been fortunate over the past five, six years, I’ve played more football than anybody.”

“The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and Super Bowls, that means I’m playing an extra three games more than everybody else in the entire league. That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body.”

“It’s a lot of time in the building… That process can be grueling. It can weigh on you. It can make you better and it can drive you crazy. Right now, it was one of those things where it was driving me crazy this year. It happens as you tail off toward the back nine of your career.”

With the Chiefs’ incredible success over the last eight seasons, Kelce has played 25 playoff games, adding nearly a season and half worth of games to the 175 regular season games he has played in his career.

Kelce was still productive this season, but his yards (823) and touchdowns (3) in the regular season this year were the lowest he has had in a full season.

In the Super Bowl, Kelce had just four catches for 39 yards, all of which came with the Chiefs trailing by multiple touchdowns.

“As you see yourself or feel yourself not having this success that you once used to have, it’s a tough pill to swallow,” Kelce said.

“To not be there in the biggest moments, knowing your team is counting on you, those are all extremely hard things – it’s just a tough reality.”

The star tight end said he was going to take some time to figure it out.

“I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s going to be something that – it’s a wholehearted decision,” Kelce said.

“I’m not half-a–ing it. I’m fully here for them and I think I can play. It’s just whether or not I’m motivated or if it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility.”

If Kelce does decide to retire, he will likely be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and will go down as one of the best tight ends to ever play in NFL history.

  • Bud Light Super Bowl ad featuring Shane Gillis did ‘all the right things’

Bud Light Super Bowl ad featuring Shane Gillis did ‘all the right things’

Bud Light’s Super Bowl ad featuring comedian Shane Gillis, singer Post Malone and football great Peyton Manning has garnered the company praise from beer industry insiders and observers, with one expert saying the company is doing “all the right things” after the distiller’s Dylan Mulvaney disaster.

The ad had Gillis and Malone playing the “Big Men of the Cul-de-sac,” two middle-aged suburban homeowners who are called upon to save a neighbor’s “boring party” by launching cans of Bud Light, which serve as invitations, at their neighbors’ doorsteps via leaf blower. The neighbors then flock to “the end of the cul-de-sac” for a raucous party that draws the former Colts quarterback, who admires how many Bud Lights Gillis and Malone’s custom cooler can fit.

Col. John Saputo, an Anheuser Bush/InBev beer distributor with operations in Ohio and Florida, told Fox News Digital that Bud Light’s ad shows that the company is getting “back to our roots.”

“This ad is one of the best I have seen in my 40-year career,” Saputo said. “This ad opens up the Bud Light brand to all consumers and invites Bud Light into every home in America as an approachable and accepted American Lager.”

Bud Light has faced extreme backlash after partnering with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in 2023. Customers, who felt betrayed by the once all-American brand injecting far left politics into their advertising, revolted, causing sales to plummet.

Beer Business Daily Publisher Harry Schuhmacher told Fox News Digital that Bud Light bringing Gillis, Post Malone and Manning on was the “right thing to do to reengage with their natural audience.”

“Bud Light has always been associated with humorous ads lighthearted, funny buddy ads, and they’re getting back to that,” he said.

Audiences appear to be responding well to the ad, it was voted the seventh top Super Bowl commercial on USA Today’s Ad Meter. Overall, Anheuser-Busch had four ads in the meter’s top ten.

Schuhmacher said that partners like Gillis and Manning were a much better fit for Bud Light’s brand than Mulvaney, and that reversing course could help the ailing brand staunch the bleeding from its ongoing sales plunge.

“Bud Light has always been associated with a blue-collar working class. You know relaxation, barbecuing, those you know country music those type of deal situations and occasion so yeah, it makes much more natural sense. They’ve done all the right things,” he said.

Bud Light year-over-year sales were down nearly 30% for the week ending January 20, according to numbers provided to FOX Business by Bump Williams Consulting. Schuhmacher conceded that there many customers who will “never return” to Bud Light, but feels that the company can make inroads with a new pool of consumers who just turned 21. Col. Saputo was also optimistic about Bud Light’s future prospects.

Ultimately, Schuhmacher believes that Bud Light’s changes go deeper than just the level of marketing, and reflect a broader change in the company’s corporate mentality to better align with the views of their natural customers.

“No other brand in all of consumer goods has learned their lesson and more than Bud Light has, I mean that Bud Light really became the face of DEI and woke,” he said.

Toward the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss Sunday, Patrick Mahomes greeted some of his fellow offensive players, giving high-fives and sharing hugs.

Serena Williams’ husband fires back at critics over her Super Bowl LIX halftime show crip walk

Serena Williams’ husband came to the tennis legend’s defense on social media amid criticism over her decision to participate in Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show and crip walk.

Williams performed the dance move in the midst of Lamar’s diss track toward rival rapper Drake. The retired tennis star also had a previous relationship with Drake, making her appearance during the track even more eyebrow-raising.

“Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows…. This is bigger than the music,” the Reddit co-founder wrote.
