How much gold reserves does the United States hold?

Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) could soon audit the U.S. government’s gold reserves based on the billionaire’s interactions on social media.

Musk on Saturday wrote a post on X questioning whether U.S. gold reserves are reviewed each year, to which Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., replied, “Nope. Let’s do it.”

“Who is confirming that gold wasn’t stolen from Fort Knox? Maybe it’s there, maybe it’s not. That gold is owned by the American public! We want to know if it’s still there,” Musk wrote on Monday. The post came in response to Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, claiming he has been repeatedly denied access to Fort Knox.

He later posted about “Looking for the gold at Fort Knox” with a South Park meme saying, “Annnnd it’s gone.” Musk also responded to Alex Jones on X to say, “It would be cool to do a live video walkthrough of Fort Knox!”

Amid conspiracy theories about missing gold, the federal government periodically releases reports detailing its reserves of gold bullion and gold coins at its various repositories around the country. Those monthly reports include whether the gold is held in deep storage or in working stock that’s available to the U.S. Mint for the purpose of minting congressionally authorized coins.

It includes the weight of the gold reserves in troy ounces along with its book value in dollars. The book value isn’t the market value of the gold but instead refers to the total number of troy ounces multiplied by a value established by law ($42.222) that was established in 1973.

The market value of gold is about $2,900 per troy ounce as of Feb. 17, which is roughly 68 times the book value as prescribed under the 1973 law.

WHAT HAS DOGE CUT SO FAR?

The Treasury Department’s most recently released update was published on Jan. 31 and noted the following:

Fort Knox – Treasury reported more than 147.3 million troy ounces of gold bullion held in deep storage at the bullion depository in Kentucky, which has a book value of over $6.2 billion.

West Point Mint – Treasury reported over 54 million troy ounces of gold bullion in deep storage at the depository in West Point, New York, with a book value over $2.2 billion.

Denver Mint – The report indicates over 43.8 million troy ounces of gold bullion are held in deep storage at the depository in Colorado, with a book value of more than $1.8 billion.

Mint Working Stock – Across all treasury facilities, the report noted over 2.7 million troy ounces of gold held as working stock for the U.S. Mint to create gold coins. The reserves held as working stock had a book value of $117.5 million.

Federal Reserve Bullion – Treasury’s report listed two line items for gold held by the Federal Reserve at its New York vault – one item listed over 13.3 million troy ounces with a book value of $564.8 million, while the other listed over 73,400 troy ounces with a book value of about $3.1 million.

Federal Reserve Display Coins – The report also listed two line items for gold coins held for display at Federal Reserve banks. One of the line items listed 1,993 troy ounces with a book value of $84,162, while the other had 377 troy ounces and a book value of $15,936.

Federal judge skeptical of states’ arguments against Elon Musk and DOGE

A federal judge expressed skepticism of efforts seeking to bar President Donald Trump’s administration from accessing federal data and firing federal workers when hearing remarks from the bench on Monday.

Judge Tanya Chutkan has yet to issue a ruling in the case, which relates to billionaire Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and their efforts to curb government spending. Chutkan says she will rule on the case within 24 hours.

At issue in the case are DOGE’s actions within seven federal agencies, including the Office of Personnel Management, the Department of Education, Department of Labor, The Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation and the Department of Commerce.

Attorneys general from 14 states argue Musk and Trump’s administration have engaged in illegal executive overreach, but Chutkan says she wasn’t convinced so far.

Kyoto Protocol Day in the United States 2025 Date: Know History and Significance of the Day That Highlights the Need To Reduce Carbon Emissions

Kyoto Protocol Day is an annual observance in the United States of America (USA). It is an international treaty adopted on December 11, 1997, in Kyoto, Japan, which was significant in global efforts to combat climate change. The Kyoto Protocol legally bound developed countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The treaty entered into force on February 16, 2005. February 2025 Holidays and Festivals Calendar: Get Full List of Major Events in the Second Month of the Year.

The Kyoto Protocol is based on the principles and provisions of the Convention and follows its annex-based structure. It only binds developed countries, and places a burden on them under the principle of common but differentiated responsibility and respective capabilities as it recognises that they are largely responsible for the current high levels of GHG emissions in the atmosphere. Currently, there are 192 Parties (191 States and 1 regional economic integration organisation) to the Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC. Himachal Pradesh Invokes Kyoto Protocol to Demand GST Compensation from Centre.

    Kyoto Protocol Day 2025 Date

Kyoto Protocol Day falls on Sunday, February 16.

    Kyoto Protocol Day History

The Kyoto Protocol was adopted on December 11, 1997. Owing to a complex ratification process, it entered into force on February 16, 2005. Currently, there are 192 Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. In short, the Kyoto Protocol operationalizes the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change by committing industrialised countries and economies in transition to limit and reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions in accordance with agreed individual targets. The Convention itself only asks those countries to adopt policies and measures on mitigation and to report periodically.

The Kyoto Protocol came into force on February 16 in accordance with Article 23, that is on the ninetieth day after the date on which not less than 55 Parties to the Convention, incorporating Parties included in Annex I of the Convention which accounted in total for at least 55 % of the total carbon dioxide emissions for 1990 of the Parties included in Annex I, had deposited their instruments of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession.

    Kyoto Protocol Day Significance

Kyoto Protocol Day is an important day as it recognises the first treaty that set binding targets for developed nations to reduce emissions. Kyoto Protocol Day is a reminder of the ongoing fight against climate change and the need for international cooperation in reducing carbon emissions. It is significant because it was the first legally binding international treaty aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change.

Presidents’ Day 2025 Date in the US: Know History and Significance of the Day That Honours and Remembers the Presidents of the United States

Presidents’ Day, also popularly known as Washington’s Birthday in the United States is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February each year. This year, Presidents’ Day 2025 falls on Monday, February 17. Presidents’ Day in the US is celebrated to honour all those who served as Presidents of the United States. Since 1879, Presidents’ Day has been the federal holiday honouring Founding Father George Washington, who led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War, presided at the Constitutional Convention of 1787, and served as the first U.S. president from 1789 to 1797. List of US Presidents in Order With Party Names.

Presidents’ Day is an official state holiday in most states under various names. Depending on the specific law, the state holiday may officially celebrate Washington alone, Washington and Abraham Lincoln, or some other combination of US Presidents like Washington and Thomas Jefferson and so on. In this article, let’s know more about Presidents’ Day 2025 date, history and the significance of the annual event. February 2025 Holidays and Festivals Calendar: Get Full List of Major Events in the Second Month of the Year.

    Presidents’ Day 2025 Date

Presidents’ Day 2025 falls on Monday, February 17.

    Presidents’ Day History

The federal holiday honouring Washington was originally implemented by an Act of Congress in 1879 for government offices in Washington and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices. George Washington was born on February 22, 1732and hence Washington’s Birthday was celebrated on this date from 1879 until 1970.

To give federal employees a three-day weekend, on January 1, 1971, the federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which can occur from February 15 to February 21. The day soon became known as President’s Day. This day provides an occasion to remember all the US Presidents, to honour Abraham Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays together, or any single president of choice.

    Presidents’ Day Significance

Presidents’ Day serves as a perfect opportunity to reflect on the contributions of past US Presidents and the history of the US government. Originally established in 1879 to celebrate George Washington’s birthday on February 22, the later evolved to also honour Abraham Lincoln, which is on February 12, and all US presidents. A food traditionally associated with the holiday is cherry pie, based on the legend of Washington in his youth chopping down a cherry tree.

When is George Washington’s Actual Birthday?

On this day, community celebrations are held in several states across the US with a display of the lengthy US heritage. Laredo, Texas, hosts a monthlong tribute and so does Washington’s hometown of Alexandria, Virginia, which includes what is claimed to be the nation’s longest-running and largest George Washington Birthday parade.

Trump Education Department launches Title IX probes into 2 blue states allegedly ignoring trans athlete order

The United States Department of Education has launched Title IX investigations into athletic associations in California and Minnesota after they said they would ignore President Donald Trump’s executive order to keep transgender athletes out of girls and women’s sports.

The Minnesota State High School League announced Thursday it will continue to allow transgender athletes to compete against girls despite Trump’s executive order to probibit them from doing so.

That came just days after the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) said it will continue to follow the state’s law that allows athletes to participate as whichever gender they identify as.

“The Minnesota State High School League and the California Interscholastic Federation are free to engage in all the meaningless virtue-signaling that they want, but at the end of the day they must abide by federal law,” said Craig Trainor, acting assistant secretary for civil rights.

“(The Office of Civil Rights’) Chicago and San Francisco regional offices will conduct directed investigations into both organizations to ensure that female athletes in these states are treated with the dignity, respect and equality that the Trump administration demands. I would remind these organizations that history does not look kindly on entities and states that actively opposed the enforcement of federal civil rights laws that protect women and girls from discrimination and harassment.”

The Department of Education added that state laws do not override federal anti-discrimination laws, so the associations are subject to investigations.

Trump signed the executive order on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which celebrates female athletes in women’s sports and those committed to providing equal access to sports for all females.

The order states that “it is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities” and to take “all appropriate action to affirmatively protect all-female athletic opportunities and all-female locker rooms and thereby provide the equal opportunity guaranteed by Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972.”

Prior to Trump signing the order Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said part of the motivation behind Trump’s executive order would be to create a “pressure campaign” for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and NCAA to follow and prevent transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.

In response to Trump’s order, the NCAA changed its policy, in place since 2010, to disallow transgender athletes from competing against women, requiring them to compete based on their birth gender.

During Trump’s ceremony at the White House to sign the executive order, he announced that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem will prohibit any transgender athletes attempting to compete as women from entering the country for the Olympics in 2028.

  • CA Republicans urge Trump admin to fight state’s attack on natural gas: ‘It’s sick’

CA Republicans urge Trump admin to fight state’s attack on natural gas: ‘It’s sick’

California’s top Republican leaders are asking the Trump administration “to intervene” against their own state’s push to get rid of traditional energy sources, especially gas, with one lawmaker telling Fox News Digital the push to ban gas appliances was particularly “sick” of the state’s liberal leadership.

In a letter sent to the Department of Energy Secretary Christopher Wright, California Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher and state Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones urged the DOE to look at California’s efforts to “ban natural gas and gas appliances” and “evaluate these actions and their impact on issues of energy sufficiency, energy independence, and national security.”

“It’s a sick philosophy that tells fire victims we’re going to control how you build your home, we’re going to tell you all the things that you can and cannot have,” Gallagher told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview.

“This also has a lot of huge implications for the cost of living in California,” Gallagher said. “Let’s once and for all decide that you cannot ban gas appliances. People need these. They like having these. They’re more affordable. Let’s make sure that this is not going to get any further down the road.”

California has intensified efforts to phase out natural gas appliances in recent years for what lawmakers claim will cut greenhouse gas emissions and improve indoor air quality. In 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved a plan to ban the sale of new gas-powered space and water heaters by 2030, requiring homes and businesses to transition to zero-emission alternatives like electric heat pumps. The state’s 2023 energy code also encourages all-electric construction, making it more costly for developers to install gas appliances.

“I hope the federal government weighs in and restores consumer choice in California,” Gallagher said. “We should be able to choose whether or not we want electric or gas, and we especially need to make those choices so we can ensure that we can afford to live in this state, because right now, electricity, because of [Gov.] Gavin Newsom and the Democrats policies, has exploded the prices through the roof.”

The Republicans are also requesting that the DOE “engage legally with any California jurisdiction violating EPCA [Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975] in order to enforce the federal preemption of any state or local gas bans.”

“In light of these actions by a number of California state agencies, local governments, and regulatory bodies, we ask the Department of Energy to intervene where appropriate to overturn these overreaching policies,” the letter stated.

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S PRO-ENERGY AGENDA WILL UNLEASH AMERICAN JOBS AND ENERGY SECURITY

oil derrick, President Donald Trump split

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has directed the DOE to implement policies to bolster natural gas production and exports. Late last month, he signed an executive order declaring a national energy emergency, which includes measures to enhance domestic energy production.

“Expanding consumer choice and removing burdensome restrictions on household appliances is a key component of President Trump’s agenda for reducing costs for the American people,” DOE spokesperson Ben Dietderich told Fox News Digital on Wednesday.

While California — which has been a beacon of progressive environmental policies for other liberal states — participates in the federal government’s Appliance Standards Program, in some cases, the state’s stringent standards exceed federal requirements. Dietderich said the department is “conducting a comprehensive review and is working to advance a commonsense approach that prioritizes affordability and choice for all Americans” when asked about the California Republicans’ letter.

“Any standards should include a cost-benefit analysis considering the upfront cost of purchasing new products and reflecting actual cost savings for American families,” Wright said in a statement last week while announcing his first secretarial order.

More than 70 cities in the Golden State, starting with Berkeley in 2019, enacted local ordinances prohibiting natural gas hookups in new buildings. However, a 2024 federal court ruling overturned Berkeley’s ban, prompting some municipalities to reconsider their policies. Meanwhile, the state legislature passed a bill requiring warning labels on gas stoves, citing health risks linked to indoor emissions. If signed into law, California would become the first state to ban gas appliances.

And California’s Democratic majority has the backing of Gov. Gavin Newsom. In recent years, Newsom signed laws restricting new oil and gas wells near certain sites and signed off on neighborhoods to transition to all-electric systems. Additionally, in December 2024, state regulators approved a plan to reduce reliance on a major natural gas storage facility.

In a recent interview with CNN’s Pamela Brown earlier this month, Newsom said homeowners who lost their homes in the Los Angeles wildfires “can’t rebuild the same, so we have to rebuild with science, we have to rebuild with a climate reality in mind […].”

California families celebrate Trump administration’s probe into state’s refusal to follow trans athlete order

President Donald Trump’s Department of Education plans to investigate California’s public school athletic association, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), for not complying with his executive order to ban transgender athletes from girls sports.

The California Family Council (CFC) praised the decision.

“The California Family Council celebrates the U.S. Department of Education’s decision to launch a Title IX investigation into the CIF for its role in allowing males to compete in girls sports,” the statement said.

“For too long, CIF has turned a blind eye to the concerns of female athletes, parents and coaches, prioritizing radical gender ideology over fairness, safety and the integrity of women’s athletics. This investigation is a crucial step toward restoring justice in high school sports.”

CFC Outreach Director Sophia Lorey said the Trump administration’s intervention has made her cry “tears of joy.”

“As a four-year CIF varsity athlete and a three-year captain, I have been fighting for all girls to have the same athletic opportunities I had,” Lorey said. “CIF’s policies have undermined decades of hard-fought victories for female athletes, and it’s time for them to answer for the harm they’ve caused. CIF has ignored these injustices for too long, and we hope this investigation will finally force them to put the safety and fairness of girls over the feelings of confused boys.”

Lorey has advocated for girls affected by transgender athlete inclusion in California for three years.

Lorey intervened at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, California, in the fall, when a national controversy erupted over a transgender athlete who took a varsity spot from a girls’ cross-country runner.

That girl, Taylor Starling, then took matters into her own hands when she and teammate Kaitlyn Slavin made T-shirts that said “Save GIrls Sports” and started wearing them to school. They then filed a lawsuit against the school district when administrators allegedly scolded them for wearing the shirts and compared them to swastikas.

Starling’s father, Ryan Starling, expressed his gratitude to the Trump administration for taking action to investigate the state’s defiance of the recent executive order.

“Our family can’t thank President Trump enough. We are so excited to see common sense prevailing. This has been a long-fought battle for so many people on so many fronts. The battle is not over in the state of California, but each day we are moving a step closer because of so many courageous people like Taylor and Kaitlyn,” Ryan Starling told Fox News Digital.

Even school administrators who work within the jurisdiction of the CIF are celebrating the DOE’s investigation.

Chino Unified School Board President Sonja Shaw told Fox News Digital she is calling for consequences for all the institutions that have allowed transgender athletes to participate in girls sports.

“As a mother of two CIF athletes, school board president and advocate for children, I have seen firsthand the devastating impact of these policies. Girls are being pushed aside, their safety is compromised and their opportunities are being stolen,” Shaw said.

“This investigation is a critical step in the right direction, but we need real, decisive action. CIF — and any entity that violates Title IX — must face consequences, including the withdrawal of funding.

“We warned you, CIF. Now, face the consequences.”

Amber French, a women’s swimmer at California Baptist University, argued the CIF allowing transgender athletes to compete with girls will deprive biological female athletes of college opportunities and jeopardizes their safety.

“If you allow males to compete in female sports, less females will have the opportunity to go to CIF and swim in front of college coaches to get recruited,” French told Fox News Digital. “Allowing males who do not want to compete against their sex compete in female races takes away from all the hard-working female athletes. There are separate categories for a reason.

“This investigation is the first step to protect the integrity, safety and opportunities of female sports.”

The CIF told Fox News Digital it has been notified of the forthcoming investigation.

“While the CIF has been notified of the investigation, we do not comment on pending investigations,” a CIF spokesperson said.

Trump’s DOE will also be investigating Minnesota’s high school athletics association for refusing to comply with the executive order.

The DOE is also investigating San Jose State University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association for separate incidents involving transgender athletes competing on a women’s or girls sports team.

While Kum & Go and Maverik representatives did not immediately respond to a FOX Business request for more information, local KOLR reports that customers may experience brief store closures while changes are being made inside and outside stores.

FIRST ON FOX: The Protecting America Initiative (PAI), a Trump-aligned anti-CCP group, has launched a five-figure ad encouraging states to crack down against what they call illicit Chinese vapes in order to counter the communist country’s growing influence in the United States.

“It’s hip, it’s cool, but look closely on the box,” the new ad from PAI, which describes itself as a coalition of concerned public policy experts dedicated to combating China’s influence, starts out.

“It says, right there, made in China. New data shows the market is being flooded with unregulated e-cigarettes. Most vape products are made in China, and they’re not always regulated. They’re getting these products from China, where they can be tainted with God knows what. It’s been a struggle to keep illegal e-cigarettes from reaching young people.”

PAI says the ad is meant to remind viewers that “Trump in 2019 was right about the dangers of illicit Chinese vapes and of Biden’s failure to protect Americans from these unregulated illicit products.”

“You watch prohibition, you look at, you know, with the alcohol, if you don’t give it to them, it’s going to come here illegally. But instead of legitimate companies, good companies, making something that’s safe, they’re going to be selling stuff on a street corner that could be horrible,” Trump is quoted as saying in the ad.

The ad will run on digital platforms in targeted markets across the country.

“Despite the warnings, Biden failed and China won,” the ad states. “Trump predicted this.”

“States are taking action against illicit Chinese vapes. More state leaders can act now to fight with Trump against illicit Chinese vapes.”

Although the rate of youth smoking cigarettes is now at an all-time low, according to the CDC, youth usage of Chinese vapes has increased dramatically since 2020.
