Yankees star breaks team’s facial hair policy, prompting social media reaction

When Devin Williams was traded to the New York Yankees, he needed to bust out the razor.

The Yanks, of course, have had a long-withstanding policy since George Steinbrenner owned the team that players must not don facial hair below their lower lip.

So, the lights out closer needed to get rid of his healthy beard, prompting an entirely different look.

However, after just one week in Tampa, Williams appeared to have forgotten to shave Tuesday morning, as he rocked some peach fuzz.

Naturally, it drew the ire of lots of Yankee fans on social media.

Newcomer Paul Goldschmidt also needed to shave, which left him looking like he “added 30 years on his life,” said one more account.

When Williams was asked about being clean-shaven, he replied simply, “It is what it is.” It was the first time he shaved his beard in six years. In fact, he actually arrived to camp unshaven.

Plenty of Yankee stars have rocked mustaches, most notably Don Mattingly and Goose Gossage, but beards have been a topic of conversation, and sometimes controversy. CC Sabathia was rather irked a few years ago when former top prospect Clint Frazier rocked long hair from his head, which also must be maintained. So Sabathia retaliated by rocking a slight beard.

The Hall of Famer has rocked a beard ever since he retired, and even Derek Jeter has some facial hair now. Plenty of Yankees grow facial hair in the offseason and if they join another team.

Mark Zuckerberg’s philanthropy ends DEI programs, social advocacy efforts

FIRST ON FOX: Mark Zuckerberg’s philanthropy ended its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs Tuesday, along with its social advocacy efforts including immigration reform and racial equity grantmaking, Fox News Digital has learned.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s chief operating officer Marc Malandro sent an email to staff Tuesday evening with the announcement.

The move comes after Zuckerberg’s Meta ended its DEI programs last month– a move to ensure that the company is “building teams with the most talented people.”

Meta also ended its fact-checking program and lifted restrictions on speech to “restore free expression” across Facebook, Instagram and Meta platforms, admitting its content moderation practices had “gone too far.”

In the company-wide memo, Malandro said he and the leadership team have been reviewing CZI’s programs and practices “to ensure that they align with our focus as a science philanthropy as well as the current legal and policy landscape.”

“As a result, we want to reiterate that we made the decision a few years ago to wind down our social advocacy work and have since discontinued that funding, as well as share some new changes we’re making to our hiring and HR practices around diversity,” he wrote.

Malandro explained that CZI invests “the vast majority of our resources into building Biohubs and supporting research teams to solve complex questions around biology and health.”

Malandro stressed that CZI is “very focused on solving four grand challenges that will give scientists the tools to help cure, prevent, or manage all diseases in the coming decades,” including building an AI-based virtual cell model to predict and understand cellular behavior; developing state-of-the-art imaging systems to observe living cells in action; instrumenting tissues to better understand inflammation, a key driver of many diseases; engineering and harnessing the immune system for early detection, prevention, and treatment of disease.

But Malandro announced that with CZI’s focus on science, they have “wound down our social advocacy funding.”

“This includes our previous work on immigration reform, as well as our racial equity grantmaking as we’ve completed the five-year program we announced in 2020,” he wrote. “We haven’t launched new programs in this area for a few years. There are a small number of multi-year grant commitments we made previously that we will still honor, but none of these will support political activism.”

Malandro added: “Looking ahead, we expect CZI’s increasing focus to continue to be pushing the frontiers of biology and AI.”

As for DEI, Malandro cited “the shifting regulatory and legal landscape.”

“In addition, given the shifting regulatory and legal landscape, we will no longer have a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility team at CZI,” he wrote. “The three members of that team have transitioned to new roles and responsibilities.”

As for hiring, CZI has also “discontinued our Diverse Slate Practice.”

“Going forward, we will continue to cast a wide net to source top candidates while always selecting the best candidate for the role,” he wrote.

“We remain dedicated to ensuring our work serves everyone, that you feel welcome at CZI, and that you can do the best work of your career here,” he continued. “To support this, we are building a workforce that reflects a broad range of experiences, thoughts, and opinions, supporting employees via our employee resource groups which are open to all to join, and driving effectiveness in our work by rewarding individual initiative, excellence, and hard work.”

Social media giants come together to support safeguards for children

Mark SooHoo, an advocate for Wait Until 8th, joins ‘Fox News Live’ to discuss Australia banning social media for children under 16 and the Wait Until 8th pledge.

Meta, X, and Snap Inc. are signaling support for a South Dakota bill requiring age verification for users attempting to download applications onto their phones, tablets, and computers.

The South Dakota Senate Judiciary Committee is set to hear several age verification measures on Tuesday, including Senate Bill 180, which will “require age verification before an individual may access an application from an online application store.”

In a joint letter obtained by Fox News Digital, Meta, Snap Inc., and X told the state’s Senate Judiciary Committee members, chair, and vice chair that the bill is the “best solution to support families.”

“Parents want a simple, manageable way to verify their child’s age and review the apps their teens want to download. The most sensible and effective place for age verification is at the OS/app store level,” the letter states.

The three companies suggest that the bill would simplify the age verification process for parents, ensure privacy and security, and be “supportive of teens.”

Rather than forcing parents to complete “cumbersome and repetitive” age verification steps across apps, the app store can serve as a hub for verifying their kids, according to the letter.

Meta, Snap Inc. and X also claim that requiring an age check in one secure location limits the number of times and places a user has to share personal information, such as an ID or credit card, thereby reducing privacy risks, including identity theft and phishing scams.

“We all want young people to be supported and protected online,” the letter continues. “Parents want a one-stop shop to verify their child’s age before they download apps. The best way to achieve this is for policymakers in South Dakota to require a simple, secure, industry-wide solution at the OS/app store level that puts parents in charge.”

Nicole Lopez, Meta’s Director of Youth Safety Policy, will testify before the South Dakota Senate Judiciary hearing and vocalize support for Senate Bill 180. In October, she previously testified before the state’s Study Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Regulation of Internet Access by Minors.

A month earlier, Meta introduced Instagram Teen Accounts, a system with built-in protections that allows parents to limit who can contact teens and the content they see. Teens under 16 need a parent’s permission to change any settings that may decrease content restrictions.

These moves came after the CEOs of Meta, TikTok, X, Snap, and Discord testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in a January 2024 hearing on Capitol Hill. The hearing centered around the question of what liability and responsibility the platforms should bear if they knowingly or unknowingly host harmful content, specifically targeting or exploiting minors.

Since then, several states, including Florida, have passed laws related to age verification, while others have been shot down over First Amendment violation concerns.

Australia also recently outright banned teens under 16 from using social media apps.

The acting head of the Social Security Administration (SSA) quit her job over the weekend after butting heads with the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), over efforts to access certain sensitive government records, according to reports.

The Washington Post reported that three people familiar with Michelle King’s departure said on Monday that she stepped down from her position after the disagreement.

In response to King’s departure, President Donald Trump reportedly appointed Leland Dudek to lead the agency as the president’s nominee to serve as commissioner of the SSA, Frank Bisignano, is vetted by federal lawmakers.

Principal Deputy Press Secretary at the White House, Harrison Fields, said they expect Bisignano to be “swiftly confirmed in the coming weeks.”

“In the meantime, the agency will be led by a career Social Security anti-fraud expert as the acting commissioner,” Fields said without naming the replacement. “President Trump is committed to appointing the best and most qualified individuals who are dedicated to working on behalf of the American people, not to appease the bureaucracy that has failed them for far too long.”

The three individuals who spoke to the Washington Post on the condition of anonymity, reportedly told the publication that Dudek posted positive remarks about DOGE’s efforts to seek out fraud and cut costs across federal agencies.

The SSA did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter.

Musk is leading DOGE to aggressively slash government waste when it comes to federal spending under President Trump. The department was created via executive order and is a temporary organization within the White House that will spend 18 months carrying out its mission.

One of the department’s most recent targets is the SSA, which was created by the Social Security Act under President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935 and tasked with establishing a federal benefits system for older Americans.

As DOGE continues to find fraud and wasteful spending at SSA, Musk turned to X on Monday to say millions of people listed in a Social Security database are recorded as centenarians “with the death field set to FALSE!”

His post features a chart indicating there are more than 20 million listed with ages 100 and higher, including more than 3.9 million in the 130-139 age range, more than 3.5 million in the 140-149 range and more than 1.3 million in the 150-159 range.

Swalwell faces social media backlash for post tying Trump to Georgia small plane crash

Rep. Eric Swallwell, D-Calif., is facing backlash online after suggesting President Donald Trump is to blame for a small plane crash in Georgia this weekend.

Swallwell took to social media Monday morning to declare that Trump has had “more planes crash” in his first month in office than any other U.S. president. The lawmaker made the comment in reaction to a small private plane crash that took place this weekend in Covington, Georgia, which left two people dead.

Social media users began to pile on immediately, calling out Swallwell for what they saw as an unfair connection to Trump.

“Are you suggesting the catalysts for those crashes were all caused by policies changed in the last month?” one user wrote.

FAA, NTSB TO BRIEF SENATORS ON WASHINGTON, DC, MIDAIR COLLISION

Georgia’s crash saw a single-engine airplane take off from the Covington Municipal Airport at 11 p.m. on Saturday. Ground control lost communication with the plane roughly 20 minutes later, at which point police officers located the plane crashed near the runway.

The plane’s two occupants were immediately announced dead at the scene.

“On February 15, 2025, the Covington Police Department officers responded to the Covington Municipal Airport at approximately 11:21 p.m. after receiving a call from the FAA in reference to a single-engine aircraft that had taken off at approximately 11:00 p.m. There was no further communication from the aircraft after takeoff,” the Covington Police Department said in a statement.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed they are investigating the crash.

Trump announces reciprocal tariffs in Truth Social post amid trade policy overhaul

President Donald Trump wrote a lengthy Truth Social post about his trade policy overhaul on Saturday, emphasizing his plans to charge reciprocal tariffs to countries that the U.S. does business with.

In a post published Saturday afternoon, Trump explained how his reciprocal tariffs will work in a great amount of detail. In recent weeks, he has announced 25% tariffs on all aluminum and steel imports into the U.S., plus 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on imports from China.

His recent move to implement reciprocal tariffs was decided “for purposes of Fairness,” Trump wrote.

“For purposes of this United States Policy, we will consider Countries that use the VAT [value-added tax] System, which is far more punitive than a Tariff, to be similar to that of a Tariff,” Trump wrote. “Sending merchandise, product, or anything by any other name through another Country, for purposes of unfairly harming America, will not be accepted.”

Most countries use a VAT system, including the United Kingdom, China and Mexico. Trump added that he will make provisions “for subsidies provided by Countries in order to take Economic advantage of the United States.”

“Likewise, provisions will be made for Nonmonetary Tariffs and Trade Barriers that some Countries charge in order to keep our product out of their domain or, if they do not even let U.S. businesses operate,” the president added. “We are able to accurately determine the cost of these Nonmonetary Trade Barriers.”

“It is fair to all, no other Country can complain and, in some cases, if a Country feels that the United States would be getting too high a Tariff, all they have to do is reduce or terminate their Tariff against us. There are no Tariffs if you manufacture or build your product in the United States.”

Trump concluded his post by claiming that the U.S. “has been treated unfairly by other Countries, both friend and foe.”

“This System will immediately bring Fairness and Prosperity back into the previously complex and unfair System of Trade,” the Republican continued. “America has helped many Countries throughout the years, at great financial cost. It is now time that these Countries remember this, and treat us fairly – A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD FOR AMERICAN WORKERS”

“I have instructed my Secretary of State, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of the Treasury, and United States Trade Representative (USTR) to do all work necessary to deliver RECIPROCITY to our System of Trade!”

Earlier this week, Trump promised that U.S. will be “flooded with jobs” as foreign trading partners are incentivized to move their businesses to American soil – despite his tariffs being fiercely criticized in recent weeks.

Musk claims there are 150-year-olds receiving Social Security benefits

Billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday claimed that a cursory review of Social Security records by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) found evidence that the safety net program is paying benefits to 150-year-olds.

Musk, who has been tasked with leading DOGE as a special government employee, spoke to reporters on Tuesday from the Oval Office of the White House with President Donald Trump and said DOGE found payments going to beneficiaries listed as being around the age of 150, though he didn’t go into detail about the claims.

“There’s crazy things, like, just a cursory examination of Social Security and we’ve got people in there that are about 150 years old,” Musk said. “Now, do you know anyone that’s 150? I don’t. They should be in the Guinness Book of World Records, they’re missing out.”

“So that’s the case where, like, I think they’re probably dead is my guess, or they should be very famous. One of the two,” he added.

Musk went on to say that “there are a whole bunch of Social Security payments where there’s no identifying information, like, why is there no identifying information?”

“Obviously, we want to make sure that people who deserve to receive Social Security do receive it, and that they receive it quickly and accurately,” he added.

Musk also spoke about his perspective on DOGE’s mission in terms of reducing wasteful federal spending.

“If your taxpayer dollars are not spent in a sensible and frugal manner, then that’s not okay. Your tax dollars need to be spent wisely on the things that matter to the people,” Musk said.

“It’s not draconian or radical, I think, it’s really just saying let’s look at each of the expenditures and say, is this actually in the best interest of the people, and if it is, it’s approved, if it’s not, we should think about it,” he added.

New round of Social Security payments will be made this week

A new round of Social Security payments is scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday, with a subset of beneficiaries set to receive up to thousands of dollars in monthly benefits.

Social Security benefits are paid out on four different dates each month and the timing depends on how long beneficiaries have been claiming benefits as well as their birthdays.

Benefits are paid on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month with retirees whose birthdays fall between the first and 10th days of the month getting their benefits on the second Wednesday, while those born between the 11th and 20th falling on the third Wednesday. Those born from the 21st to the 31st get paid on the fourth Wednesday.

However, retirees who have been receiving Social Security benefits since at least May 1997 are paid on the third day of each month. If they’re also receiving Supplemental Security Income, they receive that on the first day of the month.

Retirees who claim their Social Security benefits when they reach the safety net program’s full retirement age of 67 receive a maximum monthly payment of $4,018.

Americans can opt to begin receiving Social Security sooner than that in exchange for receiving smaller monthly payments. The earliest age at which Social Security benefits can be claimed is 62, when they would be eligible to receive a maximum monthly benefit of $2,831.

Social Security benefits are determined based on an individual beneficiary’s lifetime earnings and the length of time they have paid Social Security payroll taxes. Eligible beneficiaries have to work and pay into Social Security through payroll taxes for at least 10 years to receive benefits.

Benefits are adjusted annually to account for inflation through what’s known as a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). This year, a 2.5% COLA was applied to boost retirees’ 2025 Social Security benefits.

The 2.5% COLA is the smallest since 2021 as inflation has eased in recent years after it reached the highest level in four decades in 2022, though prices remain elevated and are straining household budgets.

The new COLA took effect for most Social Security recipients when they received their January benefit distributions.
