Super Bowl LIX security tackles person with flag supporting Palestinians, Sudanese during halftime show

A man appeared to sneak into Kendrick Lamar’s performance at halftime of Super Bowl LIX.

Lamar performed several of his hits, including “Not Like Us,” “Be Humble” and “DNA,” and he was surrounded by numerous performers.

However, the person was able to get onto the field and hold up a Palestinian flag during the show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

During Lamar’s performance of his new hit “tv off,” the man held the flag on top of a prop car, and then ran onto the field with the flag.

The person wandered back and forth on the field before members of security arrived. The man was dragged off of the field.

The protest took place with Trump in attendance at the game, marking the first time a sitting president has ever attended the Super Bowl.

In addition to the showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, audiences are looking forward to seeing the commercials airing during the game, which usually star big-name celebrities.

This year promises the return of some of last year’s most iconic commercials, as well as some unlikely duos coming together.

Here are some of the most highly anticipated ads featuring Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Dunkin’ Donuts featuring Ben and Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong

The DunKings are back, for a new Super Bowl commercial.

A teaser trailer, which aired during the Grammy Awards, showed Ben Affleck starring in yet another commercial for Dunkin’ Donuts, this time recruiting two more famous Bostonians, his brother Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong.

In the teaser trailer, Ben and Casey can be seen wearing bright orange sweaters with Dunkin’ Donuts patches sewn on, with Casey even sporting a bright pink hat and orange sunglasses. The ad starts with Ben pounding on Strong’s dressing room door, with Casey telling him, “Jeremy is a method actor! He will come out when he is ready!”

Further poking fun at Strong’s reputation for having an intense preparation process, Casey explains that Strong is “doing research,” to which Ben replies, “I never did no research on nothin’! Look where I’m at!” After arguing, the two barge into the dressing room, only to find Strong soaking in a Dunkin’ branded barrel full of coffee grounds.

“We’re doing a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial, right?” Strong replies confidently, still smothered in coffee. “I’m just trying to find the character. I think I found a way in. You’re from Boston, I’m from Boston. Dunkin’ is Boston. Boston is Paul Revere. One if by land, two if by sea. Red coats are coming.”

After Strong shares that he would “be ready in like three hours,” Casey quietly whispers to Ben that he “should have paid for Matt,” referring to Matt Damon, who starred alongside Ben in the ad for Dunkin’ Donuts last year.

The words “Suit up, America” and “Feb. 9, 2025” then flash on the screen.

Uber Eats featuring Martha Stewart, Matthew McConaughey and Greta Gerwig

Another set of Super Bowl commercials for Uber Eats have been released ahead of the big game, all starring Matthew McConaughey with different celebrities.

In the first ad, McConaughey and Martha Stewart are in the kitchen together as she is chopping vegetables for a salad. “So, tell me about your salad, Martha,” he says in the clip, to which Stewart responds, “Well, it’s a Caesar salad.”

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY, DENNIS QUAID, WOODY HARRELSON PUSH TO MAKE TEXAS NEW HOLLYWOOD

McConaughey then goes on to point out she’s making the salad, “in a bowl,” eliciting a simple, “Obviously” from Stewart. He then added, “I know what you’re up to. This is a super bowl,” and was met with confusion from Stewart.

Well, a super bowl is at Caesars to help you sell your Caesars during the Super Bowl, is it not?” McConaughey said, making references to the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where the big game will be played.

An annoyed Stewart then responds, “I just want to focus on my salad,” a nod to her iconic 2002 interview on CBS News’ “The Early Show,” where she said the same sentence when the interviewer tried to ask questions about her insider trading scandal during a cooking segment.

McConaughey also stars in a series of other ads for Uber Eats in various forms. In one ad, he can be heard leaving multiple voicemails pitching films to director Greta Gerwig.

In another, McConaughey details his conspiracy theory that football was invented to sell food. The ad features many big stars, including Kevin Bacon, Stewart and Charli XCX. In the end, it turns out the whole thing was him making a pitch to Gerwig.

HexClad featuring Gordon Ramsay and Pete Davidson

Gordon Ramsay and Pete Davidson came together to star in the Super Bowl ad for HexClad, which is the first cookware brand to air a commercial during the big game.

In the ad, the celebrity chef is brought to Area 51, where he is tasked with preparing a meal for a newly-discovered alien species. While there, he comes into contact with a number of aliens, one of whom is attempting to make Ramsay’s signature dish, a beef wellington.

After learning about the technologically advanced HexClad pans, which he is told were “developed using materials from an alien spacecraft” and were leaked to the public eight years ago, he finds out the alien he is cooking for is actually Davidson.

When a shocked Ramsay asks, “You’re an alien?” Davidson replies with, “All famous people are aliens.” Still confused, Ramsay points out that he is famous and not an alien, Davidson quips, “I meant like really famous people.” A confused alien then asks Davidson, “Who is this guy?” further poking fun at Ramsay.

“We had a small list, and Gordon was the one who was like, ‘I want Pete Davidson,’” HexClad co-founder and CEO Danny Winer told The Hollywood Reporter. “It wasn’t a hard sell … Pete was a gem, and the two of them on the set, I mean, the only time there was a second take, it was when they were cracking each other up. There was great chemistry.”

Singers Becky G and Seal star in a new Super Bowl commercial for Mountain Dew, highlighting the Baja Blast flavor, which has hints of tropical lime flavoring.

The ad starts with Becky G standing in her kitchen, when all of a sudden, the Mountain Dude slides across her center island with a bottle of the Mountain Dew Baja Blast. As soon as the singer takes a sip, she and the Mountain Dude are transported onto a boat in the middle of “Baja Beach.”

After landing in the boat, Becky G and the Dude come across a rock covered in seals singing a cover of the song “Kiss from a Rose,” starting off with replacing “ba-ya-ya, ba-da-da-da-da-da, ba-ya-ya,” with “baja, baja, baja, baja.” It is soon revealed that the lead singer is in fact, Grammy Award-winning singer, Seal, with his face superimposed on a seal’s body.

In the rhythm of the song, he continues to sing, “Baby, I compare it to a kiss from a lime, on the bay. Ooh, the more I think of it, it’s strange I’m a seal, yeah. My flippers can’t hold Mountain Dew, what a shame,” as a bottle of Mountain Dew slips onto the rock between his flippers. “There is so much a seal can tell you, so much he can say. Dew remains, my power, my pleasure, my flame.”

As he wrapped up his song, two Orcas jumped out of the ocean in sync on either side of him, as a volcano erupted behind him, giving his song the cinematic ending it deserved.

Following the performance, the camera pans back to the boat and a shocked Becky G, who definitively says “this is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.” The camera then zooms out to show Seal, now in his human body, sitting with his legs crossed and drinking a bottle of Mountain Dew. “Good-looking seal,” he says.

“I think Mountain Dew is synonymous with the Super Bowl,” he told Fox News Digital. “The history that those two guys have had together speaks for itself, and so when I got the opportunity to be a part of that, it’s obviously something I jumped at, and I’m so happy I did it, cause it’s put a smile on people’s faces and it’s made people laugh. And it’s made me cool to my kids.”

The cast of “The Fast and the Furious” had a mini reunion when filming the Super Bowl commercial for Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

In the commercial, Vin Diesel can be seen speeding down a canyon with views of the ocean on one side and his co-star, Michelle Rodriguez, in the passenger seat. As Diesel speeds up, Rodriguez pulls out a chocolate-covered Häagen-Dazs ice cream bar, and smiles as she bites into it.

In the next clip, Diesel has slowed down the car as the two of them each enjoy an ice cream bar, smile at each other and take in the scenic views surrounding them.

The two of them are soon joined by Ludacris, who pulls up beside them in a Jeep, and asks, “What happened to fast life?” Diesel just smiles and responds, with a Häagen-Dazs in his hand, “Not today.” A shocked Ludacris shouts, “What? Are y’all kidding me?” as he drives away.

Diesel then turns up the music as the words “NOT SO FAST, NOT SO FURIOUS,” flash on the screen.

In a new Super Bowl ad for the website building company, Squarespace, Barry Keoghan returns to his home country of Ireland to tell everyone how the website can make their lives easier.

The ad sees Keoghan riding around the countryside on a donkey, with multiple laptops in tow. Throughout the commercial, he encounters many individuals either doing chores or engaging in a hobby, including playing an instrument, shepherding sheep or making horseshoes.

As he passes them, Keoghan throws a laptop, with the tab open on a website with more information on what they were doing, as he continues to preach about the benefits of Squarespace.

The commercial concludes with Keoghan riding off a cliff with his donkey as it continues to walk in thin air. The “Saltburn” actor then explained, “Making real what did be wanting to be, and now does be!” and the words, “A website makes it real” then flashed on the screen.

Keoghan’s appearance in the ad and his character’s dialogue was a callback to his role in the critically acclaimed film, “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which was also filmed in Ireland and also featured a donkey as his co-star.

Academy Award-nominated actor, Kieran Culkin, is the voice behind NerdWallet’s latest mascot – the genius whale.

In a new commercial for the personal finance company, Culkin voices a beluga whale. At the start of the commercial, viewers meet a man on a boat in what appears to be a whale-watching trip, taking pictures of the ocean, as a voice in the background announces that “the beluga whale has the IQ of a human genius.”

Soon after, the man drops his phone into the ocean, but it’s luckily picked up by Culkin’s genius beluga. The whale then begins to tell the stunned man about the financial benefits of using NerdWallet, while also joking around with the man about being a genius.

The whale then swims away without giving the man his phone back, as the words “Letting NerdWallet do the work for you is genius,” flash onto the screen.

“I never expected to be a whale here, but here it is!” Culkin told People earlier this week. “I showed my wife it to see what you think, and she actually laughed really hard.”

“Insecure” star Issa Rae can now cross starring in a Super Bowl commercial off her list.

TurboTax released a 16-second teaser trailer of their commercial for their “done-for-you” tax prep solutions, which is scheduled to air during the big game.

In the teaser, the actress can be seen carrying a box labeled “TAXES,” full of receipts, which were flying away in the wind. Rae then looks into the camera and says, “It’s 2025! This is taxes?” as the wind blows a piece of paper onto her face.

The words “A better way is coming. 2.9.25” then appear on the screen.

  • Army recruiting is up, but data show trend began before the election, current and former Army officials say

Army recruiting is up, but data show trend began before the election, current and former Army officials say

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Sen. Tom Cotton attributed increased Army recruiting numbers to “America First” leadership and “the Trump effect.” However, data indicates that recruiting numbers began to improve months before the U.S. Presidential election, according to current and former officials.

“You had some number of young men and women who didn’t want to join the army over the last four years under Joe Biden and Christine Wormuth, the former secretary of the Army, when they thought it was more focused on Wokeness and DEI and climate change,” Cotton told Fox’s America’s Newsroom. “That’s not why young men and women join our military. They do it because they love the country.”

The uptick in recruiting started months before the election on November 5.

“No, it did not all start in December,” former Army Secretary Christine Wormuth, who served until Jan. 20, said in an interview with Fox News.

ARMY RECRUITING SHATTERS RECORDS AFTER PRESIDENT TRUMP ELECTION WIN

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., praised President Donald Trump’s election for having a positive effect on Army recruitment, but the numbers tell a different story.  (Bill Clark/CQ-Roll Call, Inc via Getty Images)

“Army’s recruiting started getting better much earlier. We really started seeing the numbers, the monthly numbers, go up in February of 2024. We were seeing sort of in the high 5000 contracts per month, and that accelerated, you know, into the spring all the way into August, when the Army really hit a peak.”

Starting in Oct. 2023, the Army put 1,200 more recruiters in the field. By Sept. 2024, before the election, the Army announced it had exceeded its recruiting goals.

The groundwork was laid that October when Wormuth and Gen Randy George, the Army chief, began a sweeping initiative to help those who did not meet academic standards or fitness requirements. The six-week pre-boot camp, called the Future Soldier Prep Course, helps lower-performing recruits meet enlistment standards. They also moved away from just recruiting in high schools to posting on job message boards. Recruiters got trained by Amazon, Wells Fargo and other industry leaders in talent acquisition. And the Army brought back the “Be All That You Can Be” branding campaign from the 1980s.

“We’ve been selecting soldiers who have personalities that are more suited to recruiting. We improved our marketing very dramatically in terms of being very data driven and very targeted. And then, of course, the future Soldier Prep course, which the Army established some time ago, has been a big success and has accounted last year for about 25% of the new recruits that came in,” Wormuth said. “If you look at our Army ads, we show young people, you know, jumping out of helicopters. We show kids doing, you know, night patrols in the jungle.”

DEMOCRATS PRESS ARMY SECRETARY NOMINEE IF ‘READINESS’ AFFECTED BY SOUTHERN BORDER DEPLOYMENTS

    Army soldiers stand in formation

Army data shows the Army has struggled with recruiting numbers since COVID, including a shortfall of 15,000 recruits in 2022.

It reported record-breaking recruitment in Dec. 2024, with nearly 350 recruits enlisting daily and the total number of active duty soldiers reaching 5877 recruits that month. Secretary Hegseth praised the recruiting numbers in a post on X:

“@USArmy: @USAREC had their most productive December in 15 years by enlisting 346 Soldiers daily into the World’s greatest #USArmy!

“Our Recruiters have one of the toughest jobs – inspiring the next generation of #Soldiers to serve.

“Congratulations and keep up the great work!”

But August of last year, three months prior to the election, saw a higher number of recruits than in December – 7,415 recruits compared to the 5,877 in December. And January 2025 still has not surpassed August 2024 for the highest monthly count of the past year.

In other words, the positive recruiting trend began before the election.

The increased recruiting numbers resulted from more women joining. Women made up 19% of the recruits last year, the highest rate to date.

“For example, right now, 16% of the overall Army is women. And so, having a year where almost 20% of the new recruits are women is a notable increase,” Wormuth said. “In 2024, we also had the highest ever recruiting year for Hispanics.”

There is a lag of about 10–12 weeks from the time a recruit enters a recruiting office and actually signs up due to medical exams and other paperwork.

“The biggest reasons young people are hesitant to join the Army is because of fear of death or injury, fear of leaving their families, a sense that maybe somehow, you know, joining the Army will put their lives on hold for a period of time,” Wormuth said. “Concerns about so-called wokeness are very low on the list of obstacles for most young people. And the last time the Army ran that survey, we didn’t really see a change. That remains to be a small concern.”

During its recruiting crisis, the Army had seen a drop in the number of families who typically send their children to serve, families whose members have served for generations. Many of those families tended to be white and from one of the 10 states that make up nearly half of the recruits: Texas (13.3%), California (10.5%), Florida (9.7%), Georgia (5.1%), North Carolina (4.6%), New York (4.3%), Virginia (2.9%), Ohio (2.8%), Illinois (2.6%) and Pennsylvania (2.4%).

There is no data suggesting a surge in white males joining the Army last year. In FY2024, 40% of the Army recruits were Caucasian, 25% were Black and 26% were Hispanic.

“From the data we saw, there was no discernible change in young white men joining the Army compared to the spring of 2024. The Army had about 7400 recruits in August, and in December it was about 5800,” Wormuth said.

The Army is also set to expand its basic training capacity in the spring.

“U.S. Army Recruiting Command is on track to exceed the fiscal year 2025 recruitment goal of 61,000 new Soldiers and an additional 10,000 in the Delayed Entry Program,” Madison Bonzo, U.S. Army Recruiting Command spokeswoman, said in a statement. “As of today, USAREC has contracted 59% of the current FY25 goal. Our success couldn’t be possible without the hard work of our Recruiters, continued transformation of the recruiting enterprise and modernization initiatives to attract qualified talent into America’s most lethal fighting force.”

Wormuth said: “I would say we saw in the Army recruiting numbers, we started seeing us really get traction in February of 2024.”

“And we continued to build those numbers up to about, you know, high 5,000, 6,000 a month in August. And the Army has continued that momentum going into the end of the year. And I think the winds are at the Army’s back for coming into 2025,” she continued.

Former Army officials warn that it is dangerous to link Army recruiting successes to the election cycle, since the military is supposed to be apolitical. Soldiers sign up not to serve a president or a party but to serve the Constitution.

After watching the Super Bowl on FOX on Sunday, the conformity part of the show begins with best of breed judging from the Javits Center Monday, Feb. 10, from 1-4 p.m. ET on FS2. Group judging then begins at 7 p.m. ET on FS1 in Madison Square Garden.

Group judging will continue on Tuesday, Feb. 11, on FS1, where best in show is awarded.

The host of FS1’s primetime coverage, Jenny Taft, and Fox Sports play-by-play announcer John Strong talked with Fox News Digital about the upcoming Westminster Dog Show and its history.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the festivities.

What is the signifigance of the Westminster Dog Show?

“This is the 149th edition. I mean this is the second-oldest continuous sporting event in American history. So, there is an incredible amount of history to this and, obviously, next year will be big to celebrate the 150th edition,” Strong said.

For anybody in the dog show world, winning at Westminster is like winning the Super Bowl.

“There is no greater title than Westminster. There is no greater show than Westminster. There is no greater honor for a dog, breeder, handler, owner than best in show at Westminster,” Strong said.

Being a part of Westminster is an honor for not just those with the dogs competing.

“Winning Westminster is like the ultimate honor, but also judging Westminster is the ultimate honor,” Taft said.

How does the Westminster dog show work?

There are two parts to the Westminster Dog Show, the conformation and the agility championship.

Just qualifying for Westminster is an accomplishment. All the dogs competing in New York City are champion dogs from around the world.

“There’s a lot of different ways you can qualify to get to Westminster. But, really, they’re all champion dogs, so they’ve all done well and competed and won in different events. There is a certain number that you have to qualify for and participate in so you can kind of get those certifications throughout the country,” Taft said.

“You can show at different places, and you have to have a certain number of awards to then qualify for Westminster.”

Once a dog qualifies, the first round they have to get through is best of breed. Best of breed is dogs of all the same breed competing against each other, and judges are looking for certain things.

“There is a certain gait. There is measurements. They are looking at their teeth. You can see that the judges kind of feel around the body type, and so there is different things that they are specifically looking for,” Taft said.

Strong said in the best of breed judging is like a “science” because judges compare all dogs within the same breed.

The Westminster Kennel Club’s standards are on its website.

“Each breed has a STANDARD, a written description of the ideal specimen of that breed. Standards are written, maintained, and owned by the national breed club or “parent club” of each breed and are approved by the American Kennel Club,” according to the Westminster Kennel Club.

“Generally relating form to function, i.e., the original function that the dog was bred to perform, most standards describe the desired general appearance, movement, temperament, and specific physical traits such as height and weight, coat type, coat color, eye color, and shape, ear shape and placement, feet, tail, and more.”

If a dog makes it out the best of breed round, it advances to to the group classes.

Here are the seven different group classes, and how they are categorized. All definitions of the groups are from the American Kennel Club.

PATRICK MAHOMES RESPONDS TO POSSIBILITY TRUMP WILL ATTEND SUPER BOWL LIX

    Dog in action

The dogs that win best of breed then move onto their respective groups. For example, the boxer who won best of breed for the boxers, now moves onto to compete against all the best of breed winners in the working group.

Then judging becomes less of a science because the dogs do not compete against their own breed.

Strong then says that, for the competition in the later stages, it is time for the dog’s personalities to shine.

“One of the things I’ve been really fascinated to understand in doing this is how, when you get later in the competition, that’s when it becomes about personality as much as anything else. And some of these dogs, man, I’m telling you, they know they’re on,” Strong said.

“They know they’re on live television. They know they’re in Madison Square Garden, the world’s most famous arena, and they perform. That’s a big part of it, and that’s really cool to see where the dogs that understand that it’s their time to shine and that they’re the star.”

To move on to the best in show competition, the dogs must be first in their group. So, all the dogs who finished first in the herding, non-sporting, sporting, terrier, toy, working and hound groups move on.

What makes the best in show judging a little bit different is the judge has not seen any of these dogs before.

“You’ve gone from 200 breeds down to those final seven, and, at that point, you have a judge who has been sequestered away, who has no clue what they’re about to see. They don’t know anything about the dogs, they don’t know anything of who’s won. They’ve been kept in a blackout for two days, and they’re going to show up in that ring. And they’re going to basically say, ‘Of these seven dogs, which is the most incredible example of this dog that I’ve ever seen in my life,’” Strong said.

That judge then gives out the best in show and reserve best in show. The best in show is the winner, and the reserve best in show is the dog who finished in second place.

The other thing for the judge who oversees the best in show, is that the judge only judges once.

“Judging Westminster is the ultimate honor. Once you’ve judged, you actually don’t judge ever again. That’s a one-time thing, which is kind of cool,” Taft said.

Because there is no points system going into best of show, there is no way to predict the winner.

“(The judging) is talked about in a way that, like everyone, has a different best in show, right? I mean, if you talk to a miniature poodle fan, and they were probably so happy that Sage won last year and there were some that were saying, ‘What a second, so-and-so should have won,’ but it comes down to the judge, and that’s what I think is really unique about it,” Taft said.

“It ultimately is a personal choice. There are no points going in, and it’s how they present themselves in the ring. When I’m watching, they all look beautiful. They all have an amazing gait, own the crowd. But, at the end of the day, it’s the best in show judge that makes that choice. It’s kind of fun because you don’t know what to expect in that way.”

The winners of best in show do not receive any prize money, just bragging rights and the honor of winning at Westminster, the pinnacle of all dog shows.

What is the significance of the Westminster Dog Show returning to Madison Square Garden?

The past four years, the Westminster Dog Show has not been at Madison Square Garden, but the show is making it’s return to New York City, where Strong said it belongs.

“There is something about Madison Square Garden. There is something about Manhattan. New York City is the great American city, and we’ve loved being at Lyndhurst and being out at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center, super cool. But Westminster is home at Madison Square Garden. Westminster is home in Manhattan, and that has been its home going back to the very very beginnings, even prior iterations of Madison Square Garden itself,” Strong said.

“My first show was in 2020, just before the pandemic really took hold of our lives. So, I got to experience (Westminster in Madison Square Garden) once, and the last four years have been different. So, there will be a, I know Monday night when the first group is called out, when those first dogs come out there is going to be an incredible amount of energy and emotion to that moment, which I am really excited to able to watch.”

How does the agility master championship work?

This part of the dog show gives the dogs a chance to show off their athleticism.

The course is shown to the handlers 30 minutes before they compete, and they have to lead their dog through a course they have never seen before.

“Agility is really fun to see in person, and that’s on Saturday. Seeing a papillion jump and go as fast as possible through the teeter totter, it’s just unbelievable, the weave pulls, like it gives me a headache watching,” Taft said.

Strong is not only impressed with the dogs’ athleticism but the handlers’ athleticism.

“What’s cool about it is you get such a variety because you get these midsize dogs like border collies and, man, do they fly. Their speed and athleticism, and the humans are trying to keep up with them. And the athleticism the handlers have to show is because they have to get out in front of them and have got to tell them. The dogs have never been on this course before. And so they have to receive the instructions for where they’re supposed to go,” Strong said.

Yet, no matter how they perform, the dogs are always happy.

The winner of this agility championship is the dog who completes the course in the fastest time with the fewest faults.

Minnesota Republicans notch deal securing temporary majority after Dems refused to show up for work

Republicans in Minnesota’s progressive-dominated government have notched a temporary majority in the House through a power-sharing agreement reached Thursday after Democrats refused to show up to work for several weeks.

“So, 23 days as of yesterday, none of the Democrats have come into work,” Republican leader and now House Speaker Lisa Demuth told Fox News Digital in an interview Thursday. “They completely boycotted the session and prevented the work from getting started here in Minnesota.”

The arrangement comes after a weeks-long saga beginning in December 2024 when a district court judge ruled that Democratic House Rep.-elect Curtis Johnson did not meet the residency requirements to represent Minnesota House District 40B, rendering him ineligible to take office.

The decision temporarily tipped the balance of power in the Minnesota House, giving Republicans a 67-66 majority until a special election could be held.

Gov. Tim Walz announced Wednesday a special election will be held on Tuesday, March 11, which could bring back a 67-67 tie.

As such, House Democrats boycotted the legislative session beginning Jan. 14, protesting what they perceived as an “abuse of power” by Republicans attempting to leverage their temporary majority to advance their policies. This stalemate effectively denied the House the quorum needed to conduct official business, leading to the state GOP threatening Democratic lawmakers with recall efforts.

Demuth said the organizational agreement reached with Democrats taking effect when the Minnesota House convenes Thursday afternoon ensures she will serve as the Republican speaker for a full two-year term, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming special election.

Currently, with a 67-66 Republican majority, the GOP holds committee chair positions and a one-vote advantage on all committees. If the election results in a 67-67 tie, committee leadership will be shared between Republicans and Democrats, alternating control over schedules and agendas. The Fraud Prevention and Agency Oversight Committee will remain under Republican control, with a 5-3 GOP majority, for the full two-year period, she said.

“We definitely have an advantage,” Demuth said. “And I think it’s important to recognize that the reason that there is a special election that needed to be called is because the Democrats had a candidate that lied and cheated and couldn’t take office.”

Demuth said Republicans – who have been gaveled in by the state secretary every day despite the stalemate – are looking forward to addressing the state’s budget and other key issues once lawmakers convene Thursday.

“We need to stop the fraud in the state of Minnesota,” Demuth said. “And according to test scores, our test results for our K-12 education, specifically in fourth and eighth grade, continue to plummet under the leadership of Gov. Walz, and so [the Democrats] have prevented all of that work to even begin.”

Demuth criticized the governor for his lack of engagement during the legislative standoff, noting that “he has not contacted me at all as caucus leader during this time.” She said he issued a press statement suggesting that “Republicans need to start working with Democrats,” but argued that his statement was “very partisan” and ultimately “a disservice to Minnesotans.”

“Minnesotans need us to do the work. It’s not Republican or Democrat, but when you have a party that stayed out to prevent the work, you have a governor that isn’t even encouraging his own party to show back up, he’s really doing a disservice to the people of Minnesota,” said Demuth, whom the Minnesota Star Tribune noted becomes the state’s first Black House speaker.

During the first week of the Democrats’ boycott, Walz told lawmakers, “Just work together on a power-sharing agreement,” the AP reported. “That’s the way it’s going to end up. And I think that can work out really well.”

The Republican State Leadership Committee provided a statement to Fox News Digital in which it congratulated Demuth for securing the House leadership role, adding in part, “Voters have made it clear they want Minnesota House Republicans to be a strong check on Tim Walz and his extreme liberal agenda.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Walz’s office and the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party for comment.

Walt Disney World plans to shutter its “It’s Tough to be a Bug!” show in mid-March.

A notice on the Florida theme park’s website said the 3-D film and live show is set for permanent closure on March 17, meaning fans only have about six weeks to experience the “A Bug’s Life”-inspired attraction in Animal Kingdom before it ends for good.

“It’s Tough to be a Bug!” in Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life has long offered a show “star[ring] Flik and Hopper from the Disney and Pixar film A Bug’s Life – along with a supporting cast of insects who provide a surprising glimpse inside their bug-eat-bug world,” according to Disney World.

  • Ukrainian human rights lawyer, Nobel Prize winner urges Trump to show strength and end the war

Ukrainian human rights lawyer, Nobel Prize winner urges Trump to show strength and end the war

President Donald Trump is calling on Russian President Vladimir Putin to “make a deal” to end the “ridiculous” war with Ukraine, which started nearly three years ago. During his 2024 campaign, Trump often spoke about ending major world conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war, invoking former President Ronald Reagan’s “peace through strength” doctrine. Now that he’s in office, Trump is making it clear that it’s time for Putin to come to the table.

“I’m not looking to hurt Russia,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform. In the post, Trump threatens “high levels of taxes, tariffs and sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States.” This threat comes days after reports that Putin was starting to get concerned about his country’s economy as the war with Ukraine continues.

TRUMP CALLS ON PUTIN TO MAKE A DEAL, END ITS WAR AGAINST UKRAINE OR FACE MORE ECONOMIC PRESSURE

Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Ukrainian human rights lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize winner, believes now is the time for Trump to show strength and bring an end to the war.

“Russia’s relentless invasion demands lasting international security guarantees. Any peace deal must confront Russia’s hostility to safeguard Ukraine and the very foundations of freedom and democracy,” Matviichuk said in a statement.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Matviichuk emphasized the need to not only end the war that began in February 2022, but also to block Putin from achieving his “geopolitical goal,” as she believes the Russian leader has no interest in peace.

“When we design this peace process, we have to design security guarantees, which will make this [geopolitical] goal for Putin impossible to achieve,” Matviichuk said.

In his first sit-down interview since returning to the White House, Trump told “Hannity” that Zelenskyy has “had enough.” However, while Trump condemned Putin, he said that Zelenskyy is “no angel,” chastising the Ukrainian leader for fighting instead of making a deal.

Reuters reported in November that Putin is open to discussing a peace plan. He reportedly could agree to freeze the conflict along the current lines.

Since Putin’s 2022 invasion, civilians in Ukraine have had to adjust to life during war. Matviichuk, who is based out of Kyiv, describes it as living in “total uncertainty.” However, her focus has been on exposing Russia’s atrocities. Nearly three years into the war, she has cataloged approximately 80,000 Russian crimes.

“We don’t want to live in Putin’s world,” Matviichuk said. “We want to live in a world where democracy and rule of law and freedom are respected.”

  • Fans roast Cowboys for hiring Brian Schottenheimer as next head coach: ‘Clown show’

Fans roast Cowboys for hiring Brian Schottenheimer as next head coach: ‘Clown show’

The Dallas Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer, their offensive coordinator, as the team’s next head coach, announcing the move on Friday with a Jerry Jones message attached to it.

“Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant,” Jones said, per ESPN. “He ain’t Brian no more. He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.”

The hire comes at a shock to some and a surprise to many, as the Cowboys’ process this offseason has been a head-scratcher.

Cowboys fans voiced their opinions on social media, and they weren’t too happy with their team’s choice.

“Hiring Brian Schottenheimer as head coach without even trying to talk to Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn or other top candidates is 1000% the same thing as not calling Derrick Henry and just signing Zeke,” one fan said on X. “Same. Exact. Thing.”

To understand where Cowboys fans may be coming from, one must understand the odd process the team went through since the offseason began.

First, the dilemma for Jones and the rest of the organization was what to do with Mike McCarthy, the veteran head coach who went 7-10 on the final year of his deal without quarterback Dak Prescott for a good chunk of the season.

Players like Prescott and others publicly voiced their support for McCarthy, but the Cowboys moved on.

In doing so, though, they were already behind the 8 ball, as other head coach-needy squads were already out conducting interviews and getting their candidates in order.

When Dallas got their list together, it was an interesting group. Robert Saleh, the ex-New York Jets head coach who was fired midseason in 2024, came in despite not being high on anyone’s list except for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He eventually returned to the Bay Area to assume his old job as defensive coordinator under Kyle Shanahan.

There was also Pete Carroll, who ended up returning to the NFL by taking the Las Vegas Raiders job. Kellen Moore, the former Cowboys offensive coordinator who is now with the Eagles, came in for an interview, as did Leslie Frazier, who serves as assistant head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

While these candidates all have their credentials, fans were not happy that top candidates like the ones mentioned above, who have all landed elsewhere, never came into the building.

Fox Sports’ David Helman broke down the situation from a Cowboys process perspective.

“We don’t know Brian Schottenheimer will be a failure any more than we know Ben Johnson will be a success,” he posted on X. “Coaching hires are weird & hard to predict.

“We do know that it REEKS of bad process to fart around for eight days with a head coach who needs a new contract, fail to retain him after missing an interview window for coveted candidates, bring in two former head coaches who are not in high demand, one outside assistant you already have a relationship with and *then* choose the guy down the hall who a) is not drawing interest elsewhere b) has not been a head coach c) has not called plays for you and d) has had mixed results when he has called an offense in the past.”

Finally, some feel Schottenheimer is similar to Jason Garrett, who took over the job after Wade Phillips, whom he worked under, was fired.

“Quick, easy, CHEAP, and the Jones’ retain control just the way they like it,” one disgruntled fan wrote. “This team doesn’t want to win. It’s about attention. It’s about egos. Cowboys fans are exhausted with this clown show.”

Schottenheimer joined McCarthy’s Cowboys staff in 2022 as a coaching analyst before replacing Moore as offensive coordinator in 2023. His first year in the position was also Prescott’s best season, as the team went on to win the NFC East before flopping in the Wild Card Round to the Green Bay Packers. The team had the fifth-ranked offense that season.

Schottenheimer, the son of decorated NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer, has almost three decades worth of coaching under his belt, spending time with the Jets, Rams and Seahawks before joining the Cowboys. He served in an offensive coordinator role for each of those teams.
