Ed McCaffrey reveals rooting order for 3 NFL sons; excited for Christian’s return after injury-riddled season

Some parents may think Ed McCaffrey has a tough task on his hands, but he has an easy solution.

The three-time Super Bowl champion has two sons, Christian and Luke, playing in the NFL, and another one, Max, coaching in it.

No, McCaffrey has not been in the shoes of, say, the Kelce family, picking between his boys in the Super Bowl… yet.

But, he has seen two of his sons on the field at the same time – Christian’s Niners and Max’s Dolphins faced off in December, and in 2026, Luke’s Commanders will go up against San Fran.

So, who did, and will, he root for?

“They’re all even. I love all my kids evenly, man,” he quipped in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. “It’s a sensitive thing as a dad – occasionally, my kids’ teams play each other. But I root for my kids.”

So yes, McCaffrey does have three favorite teams. He admitted that the Denver Broncos, where he spent nine of his 13 seasons and won two of his three Super Bowls, have been left out of the rotation, despite them being his “extended family.”

“I still root for the Broncos, but I root for my kids first,” he admitted.

McCaffrey was unable to do much rooting for Christian, his middle son, on the field this season. After winning Offensive Player of the Year last year, CMC suited up in just four games of the 2024 campaign. He missed most of training camp and the first eight games of the season with Achilles tendinitis. Then, in a snowy Buffalo, he injured his knee.

“Yeah, the year sucked, really,” McCaffrey put it bluntly. “You put everything you have into getting ready for season, and then he got hurt early in training camp… And he did everything he could to get back on the field, then as fate would have it, he hurt his knee.”

But while he couldn’t cheer for his son on the field, he was certainly able to do so off of it.

“Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. I’m so proud of him for his resilience, his toughness, the guy wants to be on the field more than anybody I’ve met in my entire life,” McCaffrey added.

The knee injury, McCaffrey said, could also possibly be a blessing in disguise for the 2025 season.

“He’ll have his first full offseason in years…” he said, noting that Christian played in the Super Bowl last year and the NFC championship game in 2023. “Your offseason gets cut a month and a half, two months when you play in a Super Bowl…

“It sucks to get hurt. It’s the worst part playing the game. Missing time, sitting on the sideline is frustrating. But you can’t change the past, and all you can do is work hard each and every day to be the best you can be.”

It is not easy to win in NASCAR, but that is not necessarily acceptable to Ross Chastain.

Chastain has five victories to his resume, and he narrowly missed out on being the Cup Series winner in 2022, finishing in second on the season.

However, on Feb. 16, the Daytona 500 marks a new season and a new opportunity.

“The Daytona 500 is such a big event to kick off the season. To kick off the first points event, the walking out for the Daytona 500, the race is big, but it’s the most nerve-racking for me pre-race, because it’s the whole season,” Chastain said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. “When we’re on the pre-race stage, and we walk out, it’s the first time that the season’s starting. So much opportunity is right there in front of me, and I get to try to take it.

“Once I get in the car, it all goes away, I don’t see the grandstands, I don’t think about anybody else. It’s me, my car, my crew chief, and my spotter. That’s it. It’s amazing how the human mind can just block everything. Everything else goes away. And it’s only that car and every detail, every smell, every vibration, every feeling in it. It’s all that to say, at the end of the race, I’m having a Busch Light no matter what.”

In an ideal world, Chastain would have several cold ones to celebrate a win. The driver partnered with Busch Light last year, and that has landed him an acting gig in a Super Bowl commercial this year – the commercial debuted on Wednesday’s edition of “Fox & Friends.”

Chastain said his initial reaction when he got the nod was, “when can we film it?” However, it took him by surprise how much work actually went into it.

“We filmed for hours, a lot of takes. Trying to get the angle right and trying to get my ‘What’s wrong with going in circles?’ It sounds so simple to say, but they wanted it to come across a certain way,” he said. “The take they used was actually pretty early, but we did a lot more seeing what else, you know, what kind of octaves and different tones I could do it in,” he said.

The commercial, though, is just another benefit of being a Busch Light athlete, said Chastain.

“It’s been life-changing, really. What it’s done for Trackhouse, my team and me, it’s solidified us in the sport. This will be my fourth year going into a Trackhouse and second year with Busch Light,” he said. “It’s amazing to see what Justin Marks, our owner, what he’s built, and just how the team operates and what his vision was for Trackhouse was exactly this. It was to partner with brands that believed in the future of the sport.

“There can be negativity around anything, you can pick the happiest idea in the world, and somebody’s gonna have a negative view on it, so Justin has a forward-thinking mindset and does things a bit different, and Busch Light wanted to be a part of that. Justin’s a disruptor, he wants us to come inand do things a different way, and Busch Light lets us be us. They wanted to be with Trackhouse because we were different, because we weren’t what they had seen for so long in a sport.”

Just one week after the commercial, his season will officially get underway, and Chastain has had enough of coming up short in both the big race and the season standings.

“[The goal is] to survive 500 miles. It’s such a grueling race from an attrition standpoint; so many cars crash, we’re so close together. We always think we’re all gonna do better and not crash, but we crash. It’s what NASCAR drivers do. If you’re there at the end like we were last year – I could see the white flag and made a move to try to win and spun myself out. I’ll do that a little differently.

“But no, Daytona 500 is played out the same way. It’s always different. And then, once we go from there through the season, this is our fourth year with Trackhouse, my fifth year with my team, just continue to evolve. I think I’ve got the best team, so it’s all out there. When I walk out for driver introductions, it hits me, this is the opportunity to go take what we want. I’m a competitor, I want to beat all the people in this race.”

Chastain added, “That goal of winning in the competition, it drives me. It’s why I do all this, it’s why I’m in New York today, and brands like Busch Light want to be a part of that. They want to win, as well, they want to win to consumers, sell more beer, and that’s the people I want around me.”

  • Mark Ingram declares Saquon Barkley the reason Eagles are back in Super Bowl LIX: ‘Special season’

Mark Ingram declares Saquon Barkley the reason Eagles are back in Super Bowl LIX: ‘Special season’

Since 2009, there have only been four 2,000-yard rushing seasons in the NFL.

It began with Chris Johnson, known forever as “CJ2K” after his 2009 season with the Tennessee Titans. Then, Adrian Peterson defied all odds when he came back to the Minnesota Vikings after tearing his ACL in 2011, rushing for 2,097 in 2012.

Finally, Derrick Henry, another Titans running back, notched 2,027 yards during the 2020 campaign, and he almost got it again with the Baltimore Ravens in 2024.

The 2024 season’s top rusher, though, was Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley, who had one former running back star believing his campaign was better than all the ones mentioned before.

“In recent memory, man, just the impact he had coming from the Giants and going to the Eagles in season one, is second to none for sure,” Mark Ingram II, the New Orleans Saints legend back in town for Super Bowl LIX where Barkley will be playing, told Fox News Digital on Radio Row. “We’ve seen some special performances from backs, but his season is second to none.

“What he’s been able to do, the value he’s shown to the Eagles organization, the value he’s showing to the Eagles’ offense. It’s been a special season.”

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

When it comes to running backs, what Ingram loves most is when a player is a complete back. That translates to more than just a north-to-south, bulldozing runner. A do-it-all back can not only cover all the running lanes, but he can pass catch and block out of the backfield.

Barkley has showcased he can do all that in his six seasons with the Giants, but Ingram cannot believe the level he has done it at up to this point.

“The highlight-reel runs he’s had, speed, power, agility, catching the football and jumping over people backwards. He’s operating at a high level right now,” he explained, while also touching on his work with the American Gaming Association this week. “He’s in the zone and that’s why the Eagles are at where they’re at right now because of Saquon Barkley.”

Barkley led the league in rushing with 2,005 yards, and he might have broken Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing yards record (2,105) if he had not sat out the entire Week 18 regular-season finale against his former Giants. Not only that, he also had 33 receptions for 278 yards and added two touchdowns through the air to mark 15 total on the season.

Barkley’s massive production in 2024 is a clear reason why the Eagles are currently in the same position they were two seasons ago, when they were facing the same Kansas City Chiefs in the “Big Game.”

Is Barkley the difference maker this time around, though? Time, 60 minutes to be exact, on Sunday, will show the football world whether that is true or false.

One thing is for sure: Barkley is special, no matter which way you spin it. Ingram can name anything a running back should do on gameday, and Barkley does it at an elite level.

    HAVE A BETTING GAMEPLAN

Americans are expected to legally wager a record $1.39 billion dollars on Super Bowl LIX this year, which has led Ingram to team up with the American Gaming Association to preach having a betting gameplan.

First and foremost, have a budget and stick to it. Be responsible, bet legally and don’t be harassing players – sending Venmos, sending CashApps when they do not hit your prop bets. Enjoy it, respect it. It is supposed to be entertainment.

Ingram finds it crazy that some fans take betting to the extreme, especially when it comes to what he calls bashing players through various means because they did not win.

“It is crazy. People Venmo-ing, people DMing. It’s crazy, man. The players didn’t set the over/under for themselves, Vegas did. So, be mad at Vegas. The players are out there trying to do everything they can to help their team win a game.”

  • Braxton Berrios breaks down how Tua Tagovailoa’s injury derailed Dolphins’ 2024 season

Braxton Berrios breaks down how Tua Tagovailoa’s injury derailed Dolphins’ 2024 season

Injuries can be a make-or-break storyline for just about every team in the NFL, no matter the season.

For the Miami Dolphins last season, it was a big one, which is never a good thing.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered his fourth documented concussion, this time while running for a first down in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.

Another concussion for Tagovailoa meant four missed games, and the Dolphins went 1-3 in that span to quickly fall to 2-4 on the season. Of course, this is a Miami squad that has all the firepower to take the top off defenses and run up the scoreboard.

However, like Braxton Berrios, one of the Dolphins last season who unfortunately could not play all 17 games due to a torn ACL, said, “Injuries happen.”

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

When they happen to a quarterback like Tagovailoa, who is the key to making Mike McDaniel’s fast-paced, timing-oriented offense work, it can derail a season.

    Braxton Berrios reaches

“I think a lot of times, things don’t fall your way some seasons,” Berrios, who was at Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on behalf of IRCode, said. “I think that’s part of the game – it’s an imperfect game played by imperfect people. Injuries happen, a lot of different things happen.”

Tagovailoa was finally able to come back in Week 8, but the Dolphins did not click immediately. They lost his first two starts back before finally dropping the streak on the road against the Los Angeles Rams.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

However, it was a season where the Dolphins did not control their own playoff destiny as they had in the past, and they missed out on a wild card spot.

Tagovailoa took the season especially tough, knowing things might have been different if he had played all 17 games. Again, to Berrios’ point, injuries can come at the worst times.

He used another team as a perfect example.

“You look at Detroit, their defense was decimated,” he said of the Lions. “Those fans could easily say, ‘If we didn’t get so injured, we might be here.’ And they’re probably absolutely right. But the fact of the matter is, it’s part of the game and you just gotta go with it. Injuries can derail things some seasons, and you just got to pick up where you left off, and use it as motivation, as anything else.”

Berrios will be heading to free agency this offseason, but he has no doubt those in the Miami building are the right ones to get back to playoff football in 2025.

“I think the people in the locker room were the right ones,” he said. “Obviously, free agency will happen and who knows there, but I think that staff and that upstairs team is in the absolute right direction. I think they have what it takes, but you just need a few more things to shake your way. We’ll see what happens in free agency.”

No matter where he might end up, Berrios knows exactly how good Tagovailoa can be when he is 100% healthy on the field.

“First and foremost, incredible guy. Very good friend, we’re actually together this weekend hanging out,” he said. “Incredible athlete, and the accuracy and timing are second to none. He makes the offense tick, obviously. All of sudden when he comes back, everything is rolling like it’s supposed to.”

    CHANGING THE GAME WITH IRCODE

Berrios was down in New Orleans on behalf of IRCode, which is changing the way we interact with content, whether it be watching TV or looking at an image.

The football star broke down the “absolutely crazy” experience he had with the technology that he believes will revolutionize the connectivity of brands with consumers.

“To watch live sports and be able to interact digitally [and] immediately? The instant gratification thing is a huge thing in our society, and so is the gamification. So, for me, it’s such a cool way for me to interact with fans in a different way, a live way. If I have something I want to promote or I want to push, when they scan me on TV instead of just getting my jersey, [or] fantasy stats, whatever it is, I can plug in my foundation or anything else I want to lead or direct them to. It’s first of its kind and a really cool way for us to interact with fans.”

“You open the app, you don’t have to press anything or open anything. It scans it for you and it takes you wherever you’re supposed to be. It’s really cool.”

  • Jets stars share lessons learned through adversity from rollercoaster 2024 season

Jets stars share lessons learned through adversity from rollercoaster 2024 season

When adversity presents itself in any situation, it is usually never the natural reaction to overcome it.

Adversity weighs on a person, sometimes to the point when it seems too hard to let go of.

For the New York Jets, despite all their talent in 2024, adversity faced them from seemingly all facets in a 5-12 roller coaster of a season. However, the greatest part of adversity is the natural lessons it teaches, and Jets star defenders Jermaine Johnson and Quincy Williams learned something valuable through their personal and team struggles.

For Johnson, the personal tribulation happened almost immediately in the regular season. A torn Achilles was the result of what Johnson said he knew was something serious in Tennessee for the team’s Week 2 game against the Titans. The cart coming out and the towel over his head said it all.

Johnson spoke to Fox News Digital on behalf of Bounty ahead of Super Bowl LIX when he revealed the lesson he learned in overcoming the first major injury he has had to recover from in his NFL career.

“What I’ve been through with this whole experience is me getting to where I am in life, it doesn’t matter what you’re presented with. It matters how you respond to what you’re presented with,” he said. “So, I just had to make sure I responded the right way and came out swinging every day. That’s what I did, and now I’m ready to help these guys swing.”

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

Johnson thanked his doctors and rehab staff for getting him right, as well as teammate Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a similar Achilles tear in 2023 after just four snaps into his Jets tenure. Miami Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips is also someone Johnson mentioned as helpful throughout his rehab process.

Additionally, Johnson heard the news he has wanted to hear since his surgery was successful.

“This past Saturday, I’m pretty much in the clear,” he revealed. “Now, [my doctor] is like, ‘This thing is not re-tearing. You’re good, you’re in the clear.’”

Johnson said his doctor even noted he could be more explosive post-injury because of how well the rehab went, which is rare for injuries of this sort.

While Johnson was focused on getting back right for the Jets next season, he was also watching his brothers on the gridiron dealing with tough losses, speculation and reports from the media about lack of cohesion in the team’s building and more.

They might have finished the year with a win over the Miami Dolphins, but this was supposed to be a team ready to break their playoff drought, which now stands at 14 years.

Williams was a key piece in yet another top-three Jets defense in yards allowed per game. However, after dealing with another season under .500, Williams said he has learned about being dealt certain cards just like Johnson had – just in a different way.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

“Basically, no matter what in life, you’re always going to hit adversity,” Williams said. “But it’s all about how you respond. It’s kind of crazy because it’s all about what he said, but I learned that lesson in a different way. What’s most important at the end of the day is just keeping the outside noise the outside noise.”

Williams even shaded some of that outside noise.

“I did learn one thing, though. A lot of people don’t have a clue what they be talking about. So, perspective is a very huge thing,” he added.

Even though the Jets once again did not meet expectations, two key players for the team’s future are looking optimistically into the future, taking the bad times and learning from them to make sure the right path is taken in 2025.

Of course, injuries come with playing in the NFL. Sometimes, those are totally unavoidable.

However, Johnson and Williams are showing that these players are ones hunting wins, wanting to get better even in the worst of times.

That certainly bodes well for new head coach Aaron Glenn and his staff, with a Jets locker room “tired of losing,” as both players mentioned.

    STAYING CLEAN WITH BOUNTY

Another Super Bowl means another Super Bowl party that many will be attending this year. That means there will be some delicious eats, and wings are usually on the menu no matter where you go for the “Big Game.”

That was what Johnson and Williams were munching on during the interview, and the former even dropped a wing, which spoke to the reason why they both partnered with Bounty. They needed a sturdy paper towel to clean it up.

“You can have all the best food in the world, you can have the best party, but think about how messed up things can get with somebody’s hands all dirty, somebody spilled something. Look, what I’ve learned in life is, you may not be responsible for the mess, or you may be. Nevertheless, you need something to clean it up and do a good job. So, we got Bounty.”

As a rookie, New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt experienced a subpar season after the team had just come off a run that involved the team’s first playoff win since they won Super Bowl XLVI.

What transpired this past regular season was even worse.

A 3-14 record befell the Giants, who cut ties with their quarterback, Daniel Jones, who was signed to a four-year, $160 million contract extension in the prior offseason.

Meanwhile, Saquon Barkley, who the Giants slapped with a franchise tag instead of extending, chose the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency this past offseason and led the league in rushing, while helping his team reach Super Bowl LIX this week.

So Hyatt, making his way down to New Orleans to represent World of Hyatt on Radio Row, knows 2024 was a year not to write home about. However, he had nothing but an optimistic view going into next year.

“Obviously, not what we want as a team, but I think for us, we’ve just got to keep building,” he told Fox News Digital. “We have great players on our team, and hopefully we can bring in the right guys next year to help us win. I have full faith in this team, so we’ll see what we can do.”

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

Hyatt knows the only way forward after a bad season is to take that first step in the right direction.

Personally, he’s coming off a down year after showing flashes in his rookie campaign. With the Giants struggling heavily on offense, Hyatt’s role diminished, especially with the emergence of first-round pick Malik Nabers added to the mix of receiver talent. Hyatt played only 33% of offensive snaps in 2024 compared to 51% in his rookie year.

Hyatt will be heading to Dallas after his appearance in the Big Easy to begin his offseason training with the idea of competing for a top receiver position in year 3 with New York.

Jalin Hyatt catches pass at practice

    Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt (IMAGN)

“Knowing that I’m going to play on the outside more than I thought, I gotta continue to keep getting stronger,” he said about his goals for the offseason. “For me, it’s just keep developing – working on catches, working on routes, working on things I know I need to work on and be ready for next year.”

And moving on for the Giants also includes looking ahead to a new quarterback throwing him footballs. While there are free-agent options out there, the NFL Draft is where many believe the Giants, with the third overall pick, will try their luck again at a quarterback of the future.

Whoever that may be – Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward are the frontrunners at the quarterback position — Hyatt knows the characteristic trait he wants most in his new signal caller.

“Whoever comes in, I just want them to be a leader,” he said. “I want them to be a leader. I want them to understand when you come to the Giants, you have media you got to worry about – a lot of things that playing in New York you have to go through. Not only that, but say we’re losing, I want a quarterback to come in that knows how to be confident and comes in next game and has more confidence in himself.

“So, it’s going to be fun next year. I believe that we have the right guys in the room. We just got to add a couple more pieces and we’ll be all right.”

The Giants do have building blocks, with Nabers and fellow rookie running back Tyrone Tracy at the forefront on offense. But Hyatt also discussed that last part: having the right guys in the locker room to lead the way along with the coaching staff led by Brian Daboll heading into what many consider to be a make-or-break fourth season at the helm.

“I just say that because of how we fought, even with the losing season that we had,” Hyatt said in regard to senior leadership. “Obviously, we didn’t win a lot of games and had a lot of losses back-to-back. Just seeing that team coming into practice, practicing like we’re undefeated, practicing like we want to win. Just seeing the guys still going out there showing effort in Weeks 16, 17 and 18 shows, I can just tell, the senior leadership in that room.

  • NFL’s Roger Goodell talks about possibility of expanding regular season to 18 games

NFL’s Roger Goodell talks about possibility of expanding regular season to 18 games

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about the possibility of an 18-game regular season ahead of Super Bowl LIX during a press conference on Monday.

Goodell said that there is “a lot of work to be done” before expanding the season to 18 games and said he has not had any formal discussions with the players’ union about adding a game.

The commissioner did say that he has had informal discussions with NFL Players Association Executive Director Lloyd Howell Jr. about making the jump to 18 games.

“If we do (expand), 18 (regular season games) and two (preseason games) might be a possibility,” Goodell said.

“We know fans love football, and they want more football, but we have to be incredibly sensitive and smart with the balance and how we deal with that.”

Goodell said the changes the league has made to reduce concussions and other injuries have made adding another game more feasible. He spoke in April on “The Pat McAfee Show” about his desire to extend the NFL regular season to 18 games, instead of the 17 game season right now.

The NFL made the jump to 17 games prior to the 2021 season, when they went from playing 16 regular season games and four preseason games to 17 regular season games and three preseason games.

Should the NFL decide to expand the regular season, the Super Bowl would then be pushed back to Presidents’ Day weekend.

  • Former Chiefs assistant coach Eric Bieniemy returns to NFL after one season at UCLA: report

Former Chiefs assistant coach Eric Bieniemy returns to NFL after one season at UCLA: report

Eric Bieniemy appears to be returning to the NFL ranks. On Saturday, CBS Sports reported that Bieniemy agreed to become the Chicago Bears running backs coach.

Bieniemy is the latest assistant to land with the Bears, as recently hired head coach Ben Johnson continues to fill out his coaching staff. Bieniemy spent last year handling the offensive coordinator duties at UCLA, during the football program’s first season in the Big Ten Conference.

Bieniemy was a standout running back in college before he became a second round NFL Draft selection in 1991. He also has experience coaching ball carriers, serving as the running backs coach at Colorado — his alma mater — from 2001-02.

He took the same job at UCLA from 2003-04, before making the leap to the professional ranks when he was named the Minnesota Vikings running backs coach in 2006. Bieniemy returned to Colorado in 2011 when he was named the Buffaloes offensive coordinator. However, Bieniemy largely rose to prominence when he moved into his role as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator.

Bieniemy was a member of two Super Bowl winning coaching staffs in Kansas City, but he opted for a change of scenery after the 2022 season.

Bieniemy was named the Washington Commanders assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in 2023 and was given the opportunity to call plays. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid served as the primary offensive playcaller during Bieniemy’s tenure in Kansas City.

Bieniemy is now expected to bring his championship experience to Chicago’s coaching staff. Meanwhile, Johnson selected former Denver Broncos tight end coach Declan Doyle as the Bears offensive coordinator, while Antwaan Randle El will serve as the team’s assistant head coach. Randle El worked with Johnson in Detroit, handling the Lions wide receivers coaching duties.

Bieniemy’s former team, the Chiefs, will meet the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9.

Eagles star Brandon Graham has chance to play in Super Bowl LIX after injury derailed season

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham may not be done just yet.

Graham, 36, has been out since Week 12 with a triceps injury and thought his season — and possibly his career — might be over.

The Eagles opened the practice window for the one-time Pro Bowler Thursday, giving him a chance to play in the Super Bowl.

“If I had to go out like this, I gave everything I got,” Graham told reporters after being injured in November.

Graham said in training camp the 2024 season would be his last when speaking to reporters.

With the Eagles reaching the Super Bowl, it has given Graham enough rest and recovery to open his practice window to give him a chance to play.

Graham has played the most games of any player in Eagles history with 206, 13 more than Jason Kelce, who is second in franchise history with 193.

Graham has spent his entire 15-year career with the Eagles after being drafted by the team with the 13th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Michigan.

In 11 games this season, Graham had 20 combined tackles and 3½ sacks before getting hurt.

Graham has 76½ career sacks and was a key part of the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning season in 2017.
