Trader Joe’s recalls frozen Organic Acai Bowls, orders customers to dispose of them

Trader Joe’s is asking its customers to throw away a certain frozen product over fears that it may contain plastic.

The beloved grocery store chain announced the recall on Feb. 14. In a statement on its website, Trader Joe’s advised customers to dispose of any Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls, regardless of UPC code or best-by dates.

“Out of an abundance of caution, please discard any Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls, as the product may contain foreign material (plastic), or return them to your neighborhood Trader Joe’s store for a full refund,” the company said.

The supermarket chain did not disclose any reported injuries or how many product units were impacted.

Trader Joe’s has recalled products over plastic contamination in the past. Last year, the chain’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings were recalled over fears that it contained hard plastic from a permanent marker pen, impacting 61,839 pounds of the frozen soup dumplings.

Trader Joe’s also recalled 653,000 of its mango tangerine scented candles last August. At the time, the grocery store said that when the candle flame was lit, it could “spread from the wick to the wax, causing a larger than expected flame, posing a fire hazard.”

  • Quaker Oats Company recalls Pearl Milling pancake, waffle mix: FDA

Quaker Oats Company recalls Pearl Milling pancake, waffle mix: FDA

Officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently escalated the recall of certain Quaker Oats pancake mixes earlier this week, increasing the recall category to the most serious level.

The Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of Pepsi Co, previously announced the limited recall of certain boxes of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix on Jan. 14. Pearl Milling was originally branded as Aunt Jemima before 2021.

On Thursday, the FDA updated the recall category to Class I, which pertains to “situation[s] in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

In a January press release, the company noted that certain two-pound boxes of the product contained “undeclared milk.”

“[The recall was announced] after being alerted by a retail partner,” the statement noted. “Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product.”

The mixes were distributed to retailers in 11 states: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Utah and Wisconsin. Consumers could have bought the recalled products as early as Nov. 18 of last year.

No other Pearl Milling pancake and waffle mixes have been recalled, and the recall strictly pertains to products with a UPC code of 30000 65040 and a best-by date of Sept. 12, 2025.

“No allergic reactions related to this matter have been reported to date,” the company noted. “If consumers have an allergy or sensitivity to milk, they should not consume the product and discard it immediately.”

Quaker Oats has recalled multiple products in the past few years. In December 2023, Quaker Oats recalled over two dozen types of granola bars and cereals due to a salmonella contamination risk.

In March 2021, the company recalled thousands of bags of its Quaker Rice Crisps Sweet Barbecue Flavor over the possibility of undeclared soy.

  • Igloo recalls 1M coolers over risk of fingertip amputation

Igloo recalls 1M coolers over risk of fingertip amputation

Igloo is recalling more than 1 million large rolling coolers in the U.S. because of a safety risk they could pose to consumers.

The recalled 90-quart Igloo Flip & Tow rolling coolers carry possible “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards” because their handles “can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler,” a recall notice published Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said.

In the notice, Igloo advised customers against using the affected coolers any further until they can get a new handle from the company.

TUNA CANS SOLD AT TRADER JOE’S, WALMART AND OTHER SUPERMARKETS RECALLED OVER ‘POTENTIALLY FATAL’ FLAW

The recalled Igloo coolers were “sold in multiple body and lid color combinations,” according to the CSPC. The company produced all of them before January of last year.

Igloo included all the model numbers and date codes for the affected Flip & Tow Coolers in the CPSC recall notice. Both the manufacturing year and the model number are on the bottom of the coolers, with the former imprinted on the cooler itself and the latter appearing on a label, it said.

To date, there have been a dozen instances of consumers sustaining fingertip injuries from the tow handles. Fingertip amputations, bone fractures and lacerations were among the reported injuries, the notice said.

The coolers were sold at Costco, Target, Academy and Dick’s Sport Goods in the U.S. They were also sold online via Amazon, Igloo’s website and others.

The timeframe during which the recalled Igloo coolers were sold spanned from January 2019 to last month.

Igloo will provide affected customers with a replacement handle at no charge. The company has set up a webpage for registrations to obtain the repair kit.

It also posted about the recall on its social media accounts.

“With consumer safety as our top priority, we have voluntarily issued a recall on the 90QT Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler and have provided consumers with a proper course of action that includes a free replacement handle. Through rigorous testing and proactive steps, we are constantly improving our products to meet the highest safety standards,” Igloo told FOX Business.

  • NFL great Lawrence Taylor recalls stern warning he gave Joe Montana during testy confrontation

NFL great Lawrence Taylor recalls stern warning he gave Joe Montana during testy confrontation

NFL legend Lawrence Taylor was among the hardest hitters to ever to play the sport.

Taylor, 66, recalled a moment from his playing career against Joe Montana, where, after getting duped by the legendary quarterback, he issued the four-time Super Bowl champion a stern warning.

“I remember playing Joe Montana, and I was chasing him down, he came out, he chased out, he’s running to the out of bounds. And just before he stepped out of bounds, I just let up, you know. That son of a – he took that ball and ran down another 15 yards, right?” Taylor said during an appearance on OutKick’s “The Ricky Cobb Show.”

“And I went over to him, and I said, ‘Listen, hey, let me tell you something. If you ever do that again, I will light you up.’ And he apologized, and he said, ‘Man, I understand.’”

Montana would’ve been smart to listen to Taylor’s warning, whom some consider to be the greatest defensive player of all time.

Taylor then brought up Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes and sympathized with defenders for having to adhere to the rules while trying to slow down running quarterbacks in today’s NFL.

“Nowadays, you can’t even touch them when they hit the ground. But then what happens when you’re playing a guy like Mahomes, who does his fake going to go down, and then he takes and runs off. I mean, what happens? Let’s get some fairness in this,” Taylor said.

If Taylor were still playing, he would be certain to issue Mahomes a similar warning he did to Montana.

Taylor is not the only prominent football figure to question the rules surrounding quarterbacks who scramble. Tom Brady shared a similar sentiment to Taylor during an appearance on FOX Sports’ “The Herd” in January.

“When quarterbacks become running backs, and they’re out of the pocket, they should lose their protection,” Brady said.

“We’re trying to protect the quarterbacks, but coaches are calling more quarterback runs than ever in the history of the game. So, who is protecting the quarterback? We’re trying to say the referees should do it?”

There were two calls that Mahomes was the beneficiary of in the Chiefs win over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional round that sparked debate.

Texans’ star defensive end Will Anderson Jr. was flagged for a roughing-the-passer penalty for hitting Mahomes up toward the head area while throwing a pass, but what Brady seems to be alluding to is the penalty Mahomes received in the third quarter.

Mahomes was scrambling in the third quarter, and as he slid, he was hit by two Texans defenders near the head area as he was going down.

Eagles’ Vic Fangio recalls fearing the worst during Super Bowl blackout in 2013

Vic Fangio was the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator when the team played the Baltimore Ravens at the Superdome in Super Bowl XLVII.

The Ravens topped the 49ers for the team’s second Super Bowl title, but the game was marred by a blackout due to a partial power outage that struck the stadium. The Super Bowl was put on pause for 34 minutes. The 49ers went on a 17-0 run to get back into the game. Ultimately, the Ravens held off their opponents for the 34-31 win.

Fangio is now the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles and, more than a decade later, is back at the Superdome to lead the defense against a high-octane Kansas City Chiefs team. He remarked about the Blackout Bowl during Super Bowl LIX’s opening night on Monday.

“I thought it was a terrorist attack,” he said.

  • Eagles’ A.J. Brown recalls feeling like a ‘paid actor’ at previous Super Bowl, a loss to the Chiefs

Eagles’ A.J. Brown recalls feeling like a ‘paid actor’ at previous Super Bowl, a loss to the Chiefs

NFL star A.J. Brown made headlines when cameras recently captured him passing time during a Philadelphia Eagles game reading a book, “Inner Excellence,” by self-help author Jim Murphy.

Brown’s sideline routine contributed to a spike in book sales, with “Inner Excellence” quickly jumping into the top spot on Amazon’s trending list the day after the Eagles’ wild-card win over the Green Bay Packers.

The book ranked 523,497 prior to the sudden increase in attention brought on by Brown.

Brown and the Eagles will now turn the page and focus on preventing a Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl three-peat. The Eagles are hoping to avoid a repeat of the 2023 Super Bowl.

Brown caught six passes for 96 yards and scored a touchdown in the 2023 Super Bowl in Arizona. But Kansas City took the lead in the fourth quarter and celebrated a 38-35 victory.

Two full NFL seasons have passed since the loss, and the Eagles could still be haunted by the memory of how they let a chance at winning the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship slip away.

A play here, a play there, and the Eagles could have been Super Bowl champions.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts replied “next question” when asked his most vivid memory from the 2023 Super Bowl, and Brown recounted a missed opportunity for him to score a touchdown that could have changed the outcome.

“The play really kept me up thinking about, ‘How did I miss that?’ and what I got confused on,” Brown said.

    The play?

“I don’t want to get into it because we may run it back,” he said.

HISTORY OF THE SUPER BOWL: PAST WINNERS, RESULTS, MVPS AND LOCATIONS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Brown finished the 2024 season with 67 catches and a team-high 1,079 yards despite missing four games. It was the third consecutive year Brown surpassed 1,000 receiving yards.

“A.J. is the best receiver that this city has ever seen,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said.

Brown was rewarded in April with a three-year contract extension that included $84 million in guaranteed money. He was about to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at $32 million a year until Minnesota Vikings wideout Justin Jefferson’s deal topped his later that summer.

While Brown is paid like an elite receiver, he said he felt like nothing but a “paid actor” at the 2023 Super Bowl.

Brown said if he had his way, the Eagles would arrive in New Orleans on Friday, hold a walk-through Saturday and play the game Sunday. His Super Bowl experience was like something out of a movie in which he played the role of a football player. He has tried to steel his emotions amid this year’s Super Bowl hype.

“It’s about us, but it’s not about us,” he said. “We have so much we have to do for everyone else. The media, the fans. There’s only so little time that we get to focus on what’s important, and that’s the game.”

Washington, DC, airline tragedy recalls two devastating plane crashes that rocked sports world

An American Airlines flight that collided with a U.S. Army helicopter resulting in one of the most devastating airline disasters in decades hearkened back to two tragedies.

On Wednesday night, several members associated with U.S. Figure Skating and their families were on the aircraft that collided with the helicopter. At least six had ties to the Skating Club of Boston, located in Norwood, Massachusetts.

The figure skating community has felt the effects of an airline tragedy in the past.

Eighteen members of the U.S. figure skating team were killed in a plane crash in Berg-Kampenhout, Belgium on their way to Prague for the World Figure Skating Championships. Laurence Owen and Steffi Westerfield were among those killed in the crash. They were considered to be rising stars in the sport and were preparing for an Olympic bid.

There were 73 people aboard Sabena Flight 548. The New York Daily News reported, citing investigators, that it was likely the jet’s stabilizers that caused the incident.

“U.S. Figure Skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were sadly aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday evening in Washington, D.C,” U.S. Figure Skating said in a statement on Thursday. “These athletes, coaches, and family members were returning home from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.

“We are devastated by this unspeakable tragedy and hold the victims’ families closely in our hearts. We will continue to monitor the situation and will release more information as it becomes available.”

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu addressed the tragedy in a news conference.

“It was truly an honor to have future Olympians and those who are at the highest competition level of figure skating, right here in our capital,” she said.

“We were so excited to have the opportunity to host the national championship, and even yesterday I had folks tell me how wonderful these last few days have been with additional individuals that came into our community, whether to watch or to participate. So, our community was really excited and thankful that everything went well with the championship. And so right now we’re just waiting for more information from U.S. Figure Skating that we can release. But right now we’re just hoping and praying again.”

The city of Wichita was described as a tightknit community, which is also no stranger to tragic aircraft incidents.

Wichita State University’s football team, flying in a Martin 404, crashed in Colorado in 1970, leaving 31 dead. Eight players and the co-pilot survived, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.

The cause of the crash was determined to be because of pilot error.

“Wichita is located in the heart of our nation, and today we are grieving. I received confirmation this morning that no one survived the crash of American Airlines flight 5342,” Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., wrote in a post on Thursday on X.

“This is a sad day for Kansas and our nation. My heart breaks for the lives that were lost and their loved ones who are now learning that their family or friends were on the flight.

NFL star Xavier Worthy recalls meeting Taylor Swift after Chiefs’ AFC title game win: ‘She’s taller than me’

NFL rookie Xavier Worthy is sharing some details about meeting Taylor Swift.

The music star made her way to the field inside Arrowhead Stadium shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC championship game.

Cameras captured Worthy taking note of Swift’s stature moments after he greeted the “Anti-Hero” singer.

“Oh s—,” Worthy said as he smiled. “She’s taller than me.”

The Chiefs’ roster lists Worthy at 5-foot-11. By most accounts, Swift stands around one inch shorter than the Chiefs wide receiver. While Swift and Worthy are similar heights when flat-footed, the heels Swift was wearing at the time of the exchange could have made her appear to be taller than Worthy.

Worthy later confirmed Sunday’s game marked the first time he met Swift.

“I just met her.” Worthy told ABC 30. “It’s the video going viral right now. I was like, ‘Damn, she’s tall. She’s taller than me.’”

Worthy added that Swift recognized him because Kansas City selected him in the first round of April’s draft.

“We were on the field, and she walked right past me and said, ‘Oh you’re the one who got drafted?” Worthy said. “So, we met like that. It was cool.”

“She’s fully encouraging me to enjoy playing this game,” Kelce said earlier this month.

The 2024 campaign marked the second consecutive year the star tight end did not reach the 1,000-yard receiving mark, which prompted some questions about whether he would step away once the postseason comes to an end.

“I got all the support in the world to keep chasing these dreams,” Kelce added.

Kansas City has advanced to the last seven AFC title games. The Chiefs will take on the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl Feb. 9 in New Orleans. The Chiefs are vying for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl championship.
