International Childhood Cancer Day 2025 Date & Significance: Key Facts and Other Details You Should Know About Raising Awareness, Support & Fighting for Kids’ Lives

Every year the world comes together to observe International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD). This global initiative is dedicated to raising awareness about childhood cancer, providing support for affected children and their families, and advocating for better treatments and resources to improve survival rates. Although childhood cancer is a topic often overlooked in public discourse, it remains one of the most significant causes of childhood-related death worldwide. Let’s explore everything you need to know about International Childhood Cancer Day 2025, its date, significance, key facts, ways to get involved, and how to help make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer. February 2025 Holidays and Festivals Calendar: Get Full List of Major Events in the Second Month of the Year.

International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) Date & Significance

International Childhood Cancer Day is celebrated annually on February 15 to honor children diagnosed with cancer and to raise awareness about the unique challenges they face. This day serves as a platform for global collaboration among families, medical professionals, advocates, and organisations to ensure that childhood cancer remains a top priority for governments, healthcare systems, and researchers. World Cancer Day 2025 Date and Theme: Know History and Significance of the Day That Raises Awareness About Cancer and Encourages Its Prevention.

ICCD is not just about spreading awareness; it’s about taking action to improve the lives of children diagnosed with cancer and providing the necessary resources for their families. The day is recognised by various organisations, including the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations (ICCCPO), who are instrumental in ensuring that the voices of those affected by childhood cancer are heard.

    Key Facts About Childhood Cancer

Childhood cancer is more common than many people think. Here are some important facts to consider:

    • Cancer in children is not the same as in adults: Children’s cancers are biologically different and require specialised treatments that are often distinct from those used for adults.
    • Cancer is the second leading cause of death among children worldwide, after accidents.
    • Survival rates have improved: Over the past few decades, survival rates for childhood cancer have significantly improved. The survival rate has risen from 30% in the 1960s to over 80% in many high-income countries today. However, survival rates can vary depending on the type of cancer, country, and available medical resources.
    • The types of cancers commonly seen in children include leukemia, brain tumors, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and Wilms’ tumor, among others.
    • Despite these improvements, childhood cancer remains a critical issue that requires further research, better access to treatment, and global attention.

International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) serves as a vital reminder that childhood cancer should not be ignored. It’s a call to action for individuals, organisations, and governments to prioritise the health and wellbeing of children diagnosed with cancer. By raising awareness, providing support, and advocating for continued research and improved treatments, we can work together to improve survival rates and offer hope to the children and families affected by this devastating disease.

Trump budget bill raising debt limit by $4T advances in House

A mammoth bill advancing a broad range of President Donald Trump’s policy goals survived a key hurdle on Thursday, putting Republicans closer to their goal of passing a bill by sometime in May.

The legislation passed the House Budget Committee on a party-line 21 to 16 vote and is expected to be taken up by the entire chamber for a floor vote later this month.

It comes despite eleventh-hour negotiations that had the bill’s eventual passage in question even as the committee met to discuss the text on Thursday morning.

The 45-page resolution directs various House committees to find a sum of at least $1.5 trillion in spending cuts, with $300 billion in new spending allocated toward the border, national defense and the judiciary.

BLACK CAUCUS CHAIR ACCUSES TRUMP OF ‘PURGE’ OF ‘MINORITY’ FEDERAL WORKERS

It also directs $4 trillion toward raising the debt limit, and it includes $4.5 trillion to extend Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and other tax provisions pushed by the president for the next 10 years.

House and Senate Republicans are aiming to use the budget reconciliation process to pass a broad range of Trump policy goals, from border security to eliminating taxes on tipped and overtime wages.

By lowering the threshold for passage in the Senate from two-thirds to a simple majority, it will allow the GOP to use their razor-thin majorities to get legislation signed into law with zero Democratic support, provided the measures included relate to the budget and other fiscal matters.

Conservative spending hawks on the House Budget Committee had demanded assurances that Republicans would seek to cut spending as deeply as possible in the reconciliation process, particularly to offset new spending on Trump’s tax priorities.

House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, told reporters early Thursday afternoon that committee Republicans came to an agreement on an amendment that would win over holdouts, however.

    Jodey Arrington

House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington ushered the bill through his committee on Thursday.

The proposal would mandate a corresponding reduction in the $4.5 trillion tax allocation if Republicans failed to cut at least $2 trillion in spending elsewhere.

Conversely, if spending cuts exceeded $2 trillion, it would increase the amount of money directed toward tax cuts by the same amount.

“The amendment that will come up is a good amendment,” Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., a Budget Committee fiscal hawk who had issues with the original text, told Fox News Digital. “It’s common sense. It’s doing what we said we’d be doing.”

SCOOP: KEY CONSERVATIVE CAUCUS DRAWS RED LINE ON HOUSE BUDGET PLAN

The House advanced its proposal after being forced to punt the committee vote last week in the face of disagreements over where to set the baseline floor for spending cuts.

Senate Republicans advanced their own plan in the meantime, passing a narrower bill on Wednesday night that included new funding for the border and defense but would leave Trump’s tax cuts for a second package.

Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., called that bill a “nonstarter” in the House.

But while the House’s bill passed a critical test on Thursday, it’s just the first step in a long process.

Passing a budget resolution then sends instructions to other committees to seek cuts and policy changes in their respective jurisdictions, before those proposals are added back to one large bill.

The House and Senate must also agree on a compromise between their two versions and pass identical pieces of legislation before they can be sent to Trump’s desk.

Republicans have a three seat majority in the Senate and a one seat majority in the House, meaning they can afford precious little dissent among themselves to pass a final bill.

  • Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves, Super Bowl LIX parade king, proving New Orleans can be great business hub

Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves, Super Bowl LIX parade king, proving New Orleans can be great business hub

Todd Graves, the billionaire entrepreneur who founded Raising Cane’s, the fastest-growing chicken chain in the country, couldn’t believe what he had been asked before Super Bowl LIX.

The city of New Orleans, where he was born, asked him to be parade king on the day before the Super Bowl at Caesars Superdome.

“I thought it was a great honor, but when they asked me to do it, at first, I was like, ‘Get one of the Mannings. Get somebody famous,’” he told Fox Business Digital at the Louisiana Legacy Gala Wednesday night.

Graves’ entrepreneurial journey was rooted in Louisiana. “The Mothership,” his first Raising Cane’s storefront, was opened in August 1996 near the LSU campus. Years later, Raising Cane’s employs over 50,000 and operates in 33 states.

And if you ask Graves, he’ll tell you Cane’s is just getting started.

But seeing the commitment to his community in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and the entire state of Louisiana led to him being named parade king.

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

Graves may not have gotten why they wanted him to be up on that king float, but then it clicked.

“They said, ‘We really want to hit on the side of business. You’ve been a business success story here.’ Then, it made sense to me, right? It was like, ‘OK, [New Orleans] is a great place to do business,’” Graves said.

“I grew my business here. I grew my family here, and we have a multibillion-dollar enterprise, and we’re just getting warmed up. We’re worldwide now and growing everywhere. It’s some of that, the business component of it. I want people to watch that parade and just watch it on TV and say, ‘You know what? I haven’t been back to New Orleans with my company conferences in 10 years.’ We need that to come back up. So, representing that, I think, is an honor.”

The Super Bowl is a hub not just for entertainment and football every year, but for business as well. Every big name brand is represented in some capacity, whether it’s having athletes showcasing their products and name on Radio Row or throwing parties throughout the city.

And New Orleans is the perfect place to have a party.

But helping the community, especially one with such a rich history, is what Graves was a part of on Wednesday night at the Louisiana Legacy Gala, which honored one of football’s greatest, the Mannings.

It was announced that Children’s Hospital New Orleans would be renamed Manning Family Children’s in tribute to the family’s longstanding commitment to serving children in the community.

And it was announced that Graves donated $1 million to Walker’s Imaginarium, which will be a first-of-its-kind interactive children’s museum within the hospital named after Walker Beery, who fought terminal brain cancer before his death.

Graves called Archie Manning his idol and someone he always wanted to emulate in the community and spoke about the hospital’s mission.

“They gave great care for 600,000 kids this year, and they don’t stop at that,” Graves said. “They keep building every year, taking care of more and more children regardless of whether you can afford it or not. For us, and for me living here in the states and one day, God willing, I’m going to have grandkids and great-grandkids, having this world-class care in our backyard is invaluable.”

Graves and former New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister, who is on the hospital’s board, discussed how the $1 million donation originated.

It was at an arm wrestling competition with Eli Manning, the two-time Super Bowl MVP with the New York Giants, at Rao’s in New York City. Manning eventually beat Graves, and as a man of his word, the donation came in.

Lou Fragoso, president and CEO of Manning Family Children’s, explained how people like Graves represent what is so important about New Orleans.

“We can’t do the work that we do without the support of the community and support of people like Todd and Raising Cane’s. For seven years, we’ve served every child, every time [saying] yes to a child regardless of their ability to afford pay.

“That is our mission, but we can’t do it without the support of the community and the things that we’re doing there and what we’ve built over the last 70 years – the medical and surgical side – and then the things we’re doing out in the community. That’s a game changer.

“It makes me feel privileged to do it,” Graves said. “I work hard at what we do, and the great people in serving great chicken finger meals every day. With that, we’ve done well, and we make income. It’s a privilege to take some of the money that you make and give back to great organizations like Lou leads here. It’s so prideful.”

Mattel considers raising prices on toys to mitigate tariff impact

Mattel is looking at potentially upping toy prices as part of its efforts to mitigate President Donald Trump’s tariffs on imports from China, Mexico and Canada.

Over the past weekend, the president signed executive orders seeking to bring a 10% levy on imports from China and a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada.

The tariff against China went into effect on Tuesday; however, the Trump administration paused the levies against America’s northern and southern neighbors for one month after Mexico and Canada both agreed to take steps to heighten enforcement on their borders with the U.S.

WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH TRUMP’S TARIFFS ON CHINA, CANADA AND MEXICO?

Leaders at Mattel said Tuesday that “leveraging the strength of our supply chain” and possible price actions were among the measures that the toy company was looking at implementing to deal with the tariffs.

“Our teams have been fully engaged in analyzing and planning for a range of scenarios,” CFO Anthony DiSilvestro told analysts and investors. “And in terms of the financial impact on Mattel, our 2025 guidance includes the anticipated impact of the new tariff based on what we know today and mitigating actions we plan to take, including those leveraging the strength of our supply chain and potential pricing.”

Mattel, known for Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price and other brands, makes toys in seven countries, he said, adding that the toy company has been “continuously optimizing and diversifying our manufacturing footprint” in recent years.

Less than 40% of Mattel’s global toy production is expected to occur in China this year, a much smaller share than the industry average of roughly 80%, according to DiSilvestro.

“With the U.S. representing about half of our global toy sales, our tariff exposure in the U.S. related to China should be about 20% of global production,” the Mattel CFO said. “And with respect to Mexico and Canada, we currently source less than 10% of our toys from Mexico and have no sourcing from Canada.”

The toy company plans for “no single country” to have more than 25% of production by 2027, DiSilvestro added.

Regarding the tariff mitigation actions, he said Mattel “work[s] closely” with its retail partners to “achieve the right balance and always keep consumers in mind when we consider pricing actions.”

The toy company forecasted 2%-3% growth in net sales for fiscal 2025, as well as adjusted earnings per share in the range of $1.66 to $1.72, factoring in any potential impact from the tariffs and the company’s response to them.

The company generated nearly $5.38 billion in net sales over the course of 2024. Its annual net income, meanwhile, came in at $541.8 million.

“Our 2025 priorities are to grow the top and bottom line, while increasing investment in our digital game self-publishing business to drive long-term growth, in line with our capital allocation priorities to invest in organic growth,” Kreiz told analysts.

Ever since he retired, Clay Matthews has spent plenty of time on the field – just not the gridiron.

The Green Bay Packers legend is not only part of a legendary football family, but he was raised a hunter and is doing the same for his children as well.

Matthews has backed Project ChildSafe, a charity that he says hits close to home as a father of three children all under the age of 10.

“This was a natural fit to work with Colt to come together on something that means a great deal to me, to give back and promote this education of firearm safety,” Matthews said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.

“[Project ChildSafe does] such an amazing job at this comprehensive education, from providing free locks for firearms to actual safes, working with local law enforcement, it was just a no-brainer… Project Child safe just really designated with me.”

Fans can vote for their favorite player until Friday on safetyimpactaward.com, and for every vote cast, Colt will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to the winner. Plus, if a safety happens in Super Bowl LIX, fans will have a chance to win $100,000.

“This is a competition after all, so I’m asking you to vote for my charity,” Matthews quipped, as he is up against Fletcher Cox, Joe Thomas and Adam Vinatieri.

Matthews said his soon-to-be 10-year-old son wants to go deer hunting soon, while his 5 year old “wants to sit in the blind for turkey hunting season this upcoming year.” The kids also get dressed up in “camo and blaze orange” quite often, he admits.

“People can guess what type of family we are,” he joked.

However, with that comes a lot of responsibility, and Matthews gave advice to his fellow firearm owners on how to keep everyone safe.

“First is have them locked up at all times. My kids from a young age have been brought up around firearms, whether it be hunting, recreational shooting, clinking, whatever it may be, but they understand dad’s in charge of that. You don’t have free rein. They’re completely locked up. I’m in charge of that,” Matthews said.

“And just the attention to safety, really, knowing where the barrel is pointed, finger off the trigger, stuff that seems easy for most gun owners, but when you’re raising children to be in that lifestyle to shoot firearms, you’ve just gotta teach and ingrain at a young age.

“My father did a fantastic job with me. I know I was the kid, ‘Dad, can I see this? Can I see that?’ ‘No, no, no.’ But when I got out there, there was a responsibility that I felt I had growing up in that environment, and hopefully my kids will have the same.”

Ahead of their deer hunting day, Matthews said he will be taking his oldest son out for practice – likely after a flag-football game.
