Former NFL player confirmed to Trump’s Cabinet to lead housing

Scott Turner was confirmed on Wednesday to be the next secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The former NFL player was nominated by President Donald Trump to lead HUD in his second term.

His nomination cleared a key procedural hurdle on Tuesday night, by a margin of 55-45. Two Democrats joined Republicans on the vote, making it bipartisan.

With his Wednesday confirmation, Turner became the 12th confirmation to Trump’s second-term Cabinet.

The Republican-led Senate has made it a priority to push Trump’s picks through the upper chamber. The Republicans have managed to confirm more nominations at this point in Trump’s term than former President Joe Biden or Trump’s first term. Both Biden and Trump’s first term had only 6 at the same time.

  • Angel Reese becomes first player ejected from Unrivaled league and then calls coverage of it ‘clickbait’

Angel Reese becomes first player ejected from Unrivaled league and then calls coverage of it ‘clickbait’

Controversial women’s basketball superstar Angel Reese became the first player to be ejected from a game in the startup Unrivaled league on Saturday. She then called a Sports Illustrated article covering the incident “clickbait.”

Reese was ejected during the Rose Basketball Club’s matchup against Vinyl Basketball Club in the second quarter. She was called for a foul against Tiffany Hayes, then she earned a technical foul after making an offensive gesture toward a referee. When she started arguing that foul, she got a second technical, and refs tossed her from the game after that.

Reese wasted very little time after the historic ejection to vent her feelings on social media, firing off a series of posts on X. One was a re-sharing of the Sports Illustrated article covering the ejection, which she captioned with her criticism.

“Clickbait. Everything I do keep going viral,” Reese wrote over the article.

Reese and Rose Basketball Club were already in last place with a 1-4 record going into Saturday’s game, but things got worse after the star’s ejection. Rose lost 79-73 as Vinyl’s Rhyne Howard dropped 33 points on Reese’s squad amid the ejection.

Reese has been one of the most controversial stars in women’s basketball ever since her infamous late-game showboating in the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship game. Reese led LSU to a 102-85 victory over Caitlin Clark and Iowa that March and bragged about it by pointing to her finger in front of Clark’s face to remind her rival who was getting the ring.

It was a moment that Reese says “changed my life forever,” in the first episode of her podcast.

“I think it’s really just the fans, her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans, that are really just, they ride for her, and I respect that, respectfully. But sometimes it’s very disrespectful. I think there’s a lot of racism when it comes to it,” Reese said.

Reese even alleges that some fans have made AI-generated images of her, depicting her without clothes on, and sent them to her family members.

The two renewed their rivalry the following season in the 2024 Elite 8, as Clark got her revenge by defeating Reese and LSU 94-87. After the game, Reese cried at the post-game press conference as she recounted the harassment she received following the previous season’s controversy.

INSIDE CAITLIN CLARK AND ANGEL REESE’S IMPACT ON MEN’S BASKETBALL

Angel Reese ties her hair back

In four head-to-head WNBA matchups this past season, Clark’s Indiana Fever beat Reese’s Chicago Sky three times. In just two of those contests, Reese put up more points than Clark, while pulling down more rebounds than Clark in all four meetings. Clark registered more assists in all four meetings.

Reese’s Sky also committed several controversial fouls against Clark in those meetings, including one from Reese herself when she slammed her arm into Clark’s head in a game in June, resulting in a flagrant-1.

The two won’t be bringing their rivalry to Unrivaled, at least not this year. Clark declined to join the league despite an aggressive push from its ownership group.

But even with Clark not in that league, Reese is still finding ways to stir trouble.

  • Ex-NFL player Kyle Rudolph discusses Vikings’ QB decision, referees, the Super Bowl and NFL Draft giveaways

Ex-NFL player Kyle Rudolph discusses Vikings’ QB decision, referees, the Super Bowl and NFL Draft giveaways

Kyle Rudolph left the Minnesota Vikings a couple seasons before they went 14-3 in 2022, when they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the New York Giants.

Two seasons later, they had almost a carbon copy of that campaign. This year, they went 13-4 but had another first-round playoff exit.

“You got to make the plays when it matters most, and they just didn’t do it each of those last playoff games,” Rudolph told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREE

Now, the Vikings have to decide whether to keep Sam Darnold or hand the keys to the offense to J.J. McCarthy.

Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph (82) catches a pass for the winning touchdown over New Orleans Saints cornerback P.J. Williams (26) during overtime of a NFC wild-card playoff game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.  (Chuck Cook/USA Today Sports)

Minnesota drafted McCarthy with the 10th selection of last year’s NFL Draft, and he was in the running to start until a knee injury in the preseason ended his season. That gave the nod to Darnold, who took advantage of the opportunity and had, by far, the best season of his career.

Darnold was playing himself into a lucrative contract until his final two games. Now, who knows what he’ll get on the open market?

At the very least, he may get a decent deal like Baker Mayfield’s. But even that might be a lot for Minnesota, Rudolph said.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

“Well, I think it really, so much in football comes down to the money piece. You know, when you have a salary cap, and you’re trying to build a roster, unfortunately, you have to make decisions that are solely based on the ramifications of the salary cap and what that does for your roster,” Rudolph said.

“So, when you look at Sam Darnold and the year that he had in Minnesota, there’s just so many factors that go into it ultimately for Sam. Does he want to go to the highest bidder? Do I think Minnesota can be the highest bidder? No, I do not. You have so much other talent on that roster that they would like to keep and have to pay. If that’s what Sam decides, and he wants to go to the highest bidder, I don’t think Minnesota has a chance.

“If Sam says, ‘I love playing for Kevin O’Connell. This is the best year of my career. He brings the best out of me, I love being on this team,’ I think he would have to take some sort of a discount. And then the third piece that comes in is, ultimately, you always have the franchise tag.

“So, if they were decide to franchise tag Sam, they could keep him on that one-year franchise tag deal. But, again, that makes things really, really tough on the salary cap because that’s a one-year full salary cap hit. So, it’ll be interesting what they decide.

Kyle Rudolph and Sam Darnold side by side

Kyle Rudolph explained why he believes it’s “really tough” to see Sam Darnold returning to the Vikings last season.  (Imagn)

“To this point, Kevin [O’Connell] has proved that it really doesn’t matter who the quarterback is. Jaren Hall, Josh Dobbs, Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold — he’s going to get the most out of him, and they’re going to go win football games.”

The Vikings will be home watching the Philadelphia Eagles try to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs, who are in their fifth Super Bowl in the last six years with a chance to three-peat.

It’s widely been argued Kansas City has the refs on their side. But Rudolph disputed the idea of any conspiracy or favoritism.

AARON RODGERS’ EX TEAMMATE THINKS QB ‘CAN STILL GET IT DONE’ WITH NFL FUTURE IN QUESTION

“If you go and look at the statistics and dive into kind of like where are the Chiefs compared to every other team in the NFL in terms of calls for and calls against, they’re kind of right there in the middle of the pack,” Rudolph said.

“But what is different about the Chiefs, they’re on national TV almost every week. They’re playing in primetime a whole lot. They’re always making deep playoff runs, five out of six years in the Super Bowl. Obviously, you have all the off-the-field publicity with Travis [Kelce] and Taylor [Swift] and Patrick’s stardom. It’s just, you see it a lot more.

    Mahomes and refs

Referee Carl Cheffers speaks to Patrick Mahomes during a break in the third quarter at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium Dec. 21, 2024, in Kansas City, Mo.  (David Eulitt/Getty Images)

“They look for things that trigger, ‘Oh, that’s a foul. That’s a penalty.’ It’s the slightest jersey grab, but that’s something that triggers their psyche to say, ‘Oh, I saw that jersey grab, I’m throwing the flag.’ It’s just an immediate reaction to them. So, no, I don’t think there’s favoritism. Obviously, in the world that we’re in today, if that were ever to be the case … we have all the resources in the world to find out … right? We would know.”

Rudolph spoke to Fox News Digital on behalf of his own charity, Alltroo, where fans can donate to the campaign, and in turn, those dollars go directly to players’ charities. But Rudolph and his partners have added a couple of twists.

This year, with just a $10 donation to Alltroo, fans can win both a trip to the Super Bowl with Drew Brees in New Orleans and an opportunity to announce a draft pick in Green Bay later this year if they donate to a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee’s charity.

Considering that 94% of people who donate to Alltroo had never donated to a nonprofit before, Rudolph says it’s a “win-win” for everyone.

    Kyle Rudolph on field

“What we wanted to create was an opportunity for die-hard sports fans, not just the high-net worth individuals or the big corporate brands, to have an opportunity to support us. And then the flip side is people are winning once-in-a lifetime experiences and items that may be out of reach.

“So, trying to create that win-win scenario where we’re raising additional funds for charity that wouldn’t otherwise be, and then, ultimately, offering these once-in-a lifetime experiences to fans that otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it,” Rudolph said, noting that Super Bowl prices are “insanely out of price for a lot of people.”

“Whatever you’re willing to donate to these players’ causes, 100% of the proceeds will go directly to these player causes. So, we can just be the vehicle that passes through these donations and then, at the end of the day, a lucky fan’s gonna have the opportunity to go up there and announce a draft pick at the draft and realize someone else’s dream.

“So, all in all, super cool for me to have the opportunity as a former nominee to really spearhead this initiative on behalf of the league. For as little as a $10 donation, you have a chance to win.”

Pistons player misses own bobblehead night due to suspension for flagrant fouls

Detroit Pistons fans were treated to a bobblehead giveaway of big man Isaiah Stewart Friday night.

But they were unable to see Stewart in action because he wasn’t allowed to play.

Stewart was suspended for flagrant fouls assessed throughout the season.

The NBA announced Friday that Stewart would be suspended for the night’s contest after he picked up a sixth flagrant foul point this season.

Stewart picked up a flagrant foul, which prompted an automatic ejection Wednesday after he checked an opponent, Thomas Bryant, when a shot went up.

Bryant had to be held back by his teammates, and Stewart almost immediately walked off the court.

The league announced the suspension, along with a $50,000 fine for Stewart for making “inappropriate and objectionable gestures” after his ejection Wednesday in the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Pacers in Indiana.

The gestures were likely the apparent finger guns he pointed at the Pistons bench.

The Pistons and Pacers have history with the Malice at the Palace in 2004.

Stewart entered the game with four flagrant foul points, so the call triggered the automatic suspension based on the league’s regular-season protocols.

Despite the suspension, the Pistons still gave out Stewart bobbleheads to 5,000 fans.

The Pistons have been a pleasant surprise this season. Their 23-24 record is good for eighth place in the Eastern Conference, which would put them in the play-in tournament.

Indiana football player opts to join Barstool Sports over declaring for NFL Draft: ‘This is my thing’

Katic doesn’t start officially working until March 1, but he paid a visit to Jon Gruden, who was recently hired by the site, at Barstool’s offices. And they had about as much of a greeting as one would predict from a Super Bowl champion coach and a six-year college star.

“Barstool’s got our new center and I already love him!” Gruden said on X while posting a video of their first interaction.

Katic seemed to hint his playing days were over after the Hoosiers’ College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame when he posted on X, “Thank you Indiana University. Thank you Football.”

  • NBA player investigated for allegedly manipulating his playing performance to aid illegal gambling scheme

NBA player investigated for allegedly manipulating his playing performance to aid illegal gambling scheme

Miami Heat player Terry Rozier is currently under investigation by federal prosecutors over suspicions of an illegal betting scheme, the NBA confirmed Thursday.

The investigators are working to determine whether Rozier manipulated his performance in two games in March 2023, allegedly in conspiracy with Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter.

It is part of the same probe that led to the lifetime ban of Porter in July.

Porter’s ban came after a similar investigation into his performance and “prop bets” – wagers where bettors can choose whether a player will reach a certain statistical standard or not during a game. Last April, the NBA banned Porter for life after a league probe found he disclosed confidential information to sports bettors and wagered on games, even betting on his team to lose.

The Porter investigation started once the league learned from “licensed sports betting operators and an organization that monitors legal betting markets” about unusual gambling patterns surrounding Porter’s performance in a game on March 20, 2024, against Sacramento.

The league determined that Porter gave a bettor information about his own health status prior to that game and said another individual – known to be an NBA bettor – placed an $80,000 bet that Porter would not hit the numbers set for him in parlays through an online sports book. That bet would have won $1.1 million.

Authorities believe some of the people who arranged for Porter to fix his performance in two games last season had inside information that prompted them to bet large sums of money against Rozier a year earlier.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the latest investigation, noting that Rozier – who played for the Hornets on the date in question, and now plays for the Miami Heat – has not been charged with a crime, nor has he been accused of wrongdoing.

The NBA said it looked into the matter at the time and did not find that any league rules were broken.

“In March 2023, the NBA was alerted to unusual betting activity related to Terry Rozier’s performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement, first released to The Wall Street Journal and subsequently released to The Associated Press and other outlets. “The league conducted an investigation and did not find a violation of NBA rules. We are now aware of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York related to this matter and have been cooperating with that investigation.”

The game involving Rozier that is in question was played March 23, 2023, a matchup between the Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans. Rozier played the first 9 minutes, 36 seconds of that game – and not only did not return that night, citing a foot issue, but did not play again that season. Charlotte had eight games remaining and was not in playoff contention, so it did not seem particularly unusual that Rozier was shut down for the season’s final games.

In that March 23 game, Rozier finished with five points, four rebounds and two assists in that opening period – a productive quarter, but well below his usual total output for a full game.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Miami Heat and Rozier’s representatives for comment.

Duke’s Cooper Flagg described as ‘generational’ player after performance in win over Wake Forest

Cooper Flagg scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists playing 39 of 40 minutes in the Duke Blue Devils’ 63-56 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday.

Duke, the No. 2 team in the nation, improved to 17-2 and 9-0 against ACC opponents. It was Flagg who gave the Blue Devils the jolt they needed in the second half to inch away from Wake Forest. At one point, Flagg scored three times on a run of seven straight scoring possessions.

Flagg’s legend is only growing ahead of his likely jump to the NBA. It’s a performance like the one against Wake Forest that only solidified him as a potential generational talent at the next level. It even left an indelible impression on Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes.
