Euro leaders offended by Vance should ‘have a beer with’ their people to understand concerns: US conservatives

European leaders upset by Vice President JD Vance’s recent remarks in Munich should consider listening to their own citizens’ concerns instead of worrying about fellow elites, say U.S. conservatives who attended a global conference in London.

Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., and Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts spoke to a group of reporters after the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference in London on Tuesday evening GMT. The conference is intended to bring together those with a vision of citizen empowerment throughout the world and is associated with Canadian psychologist and media commentator Jordan Peterson.

Vance had previously told the Bavarian confab of world leaders that “the threat that I worry the most about vis-à-vis Europe is not Russia; it’s not China. It’s not any other external actor – What I worry about is the threat from within the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America.”

TRUMP’S UKRAINE ENVOY PULLS NO PUNCHES WITH EUROPE, SAYS EU MIGHT NOT HAVE PLACE IN RUSSIA PEACE TALKS

Vance also criticized what he called “cavalier” and “shocking” fearmongering about a right-wing German party in the upcoming chancellor elections.

“What JD Vance was saying to Munich just the other day was a recognition that it is not for our governments to control our lives and in order to make sure that we have the freedom and liberties that we need to order our own lives and make our own decisions,” Hageman said.

The Wyoming lawmaker, who unseated Liz Cheney in what was similarly seen as a populist win over the political establishment, spoke of what she called a “new hope” for global conservatism to prevail against “backsliding” governments that put in place onerous regulations instead of listening to the people.

GREEN GOVERNANCE IS THE NEW GUISE FOR MERCANTILISM: KEVIN ROBERTS

Roberts, meanwhile, offered advice to world leaders like German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who expressed outrage at Vance’s speech – in which the vice president warned of such proverbial backsliding from the West’s “most fundamental values,” like free speech and government responsiveness to the populace.

Roberts said the reaction appears limited to a “small number of very vocal European leaders like [Scholz] and unfortunately, is emblematic of what we’ve seen the last few years.”

“[Scholz] and particularly [France’s Emmanuel Macron] and a couple of other leaders like to wag their finger at Americans and say we must do more to defend their interests when they themselves don’t make enough sacrifices to spend the requisite spending for defense as part of their annual budgets,” Roberts said.

“And that’s the kind of commonsense revolution that [Vance and President Donald Trump] are bringing to both domestic politics and foreign policy.”

    VANCE SPEAKS AT CPAC

Referencing conversations he’s had while in London and at the conference, Roberts said he and Hageman are “translating” American conservative policies outlined by people like Vance to the Europeans – and they are being receptive.

“The translation would be easier if more of these European leaders were more engaged in common sense,” he said.

“Maybe having a beer with everyday Germans rather than spending so much time in Brussels (at the EU).”

Scholz had expressed outrage at Vance’s nod to the right-wing Alternativ für Deutschland (AfD) party in Berlin’s upcoming elections. The party, while aligning with some of the global right’s economic principles, also has what critics consider select callbacks to the Nazi Party, which was banned in Germany post-World War II.

“Today’s democracies in Germany and Europe are founded on the historic awareness and realization that democracies can be destroyed by radical anti-democrats,” Scholz said this week.

“And this is why we’ve created institutions that ensure that our democracies can defend themselves against their enemies and rules that do not restrict or limit freedom but protect it.”

  • Head of UN watchdog says UNRWA hired people ‘who were supporting terrorism’

Head of UN watchdog says UNRWA hired people ‘who were supporting terrorism’

UNITED NATIONS – President Donald Trump has made major foreign policy moves in his first few weeks in office, including cutting off U.S. funding to the controversial United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). UNRWA has long faced accusations of ties to terrorists, which have intensified over the course of the Israel-Hamas war that began with the massacre on Oct. 7, 2023.

Former President Joe Biden initially cut off U.S. funding to UNRWA in January 2024, months into the war, after Israel accused members of the U.N. agency of taking part in Hamas’ brutal attacks.

U.N. Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer said Americans need to know that some U.N. agencies, such as UNRWA, are founded on “altruistic good intentions,” but have “morphed into something which is the complete opposite of what it was supposed to be.”

President Donald Trump has cut off U.S. funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East. (Getty)

DAYS BEFORE TRUMP HALTED FUNDING, AN EX-ISRAELI HOSTAGE WAS HELD AT UNRWA SCHOOL IN GAZA, SHE REVEALS

UNRWA was founded in 1949 “to carry out direct relief and works programs for Palestine refugees,” according to the agency’s website. However, Neuer disputes Palestinians’ refugee status and says that President Trump’s proposed Gaza takeover uncovered a “truth that has been hidden.”

Neuer points out that UNRWA supporters and critics of the president’s proposal have accused Trump of “uprooting them [Palestinians] from their homes and lands,” which would mean that “they’re not refugees.” Gaza, which the U.N. recognizes as part of the “State of Palestine,” would be considered their home under this criticism, negating their refugee status.

However, the problems with UNRWA go beyond ambiguous definitions. Neuer told Fox News Digital that the agency “systematically employed individuals who were supporting terrorism.” He pointed to Fathi al-Sharif, who served as the principal of a school run by UNRWA, as well as the agency’s teachers’ union in Lebanon.

“We know that the head of UNRWA’s education system, namely, teacher, school principal and head of the teachers’ union of 2,000 teachers in Lebanon, was a man named Fathi al-Sharif… he was the head of Hamas in Lebanon,” Neuer said, adding that American taxpayers’ money funded al-Sharif and “the entire education system that he oversaw.”

In the case of Suhail al-Hindi, UNRWA’s former head of a “local staff union in Gaza,” the agency insists that it suspended and fired al-Hindi after an announcement that he had been “elected to political office with Hamas.”

In response to a request for comment, UNRWA told Fox News Digital that it “prohibits any type of involvement of staff in a militant or armed group. As a representative of the U.N., any involvement in a group that promotes discrimination or violence violates the principle of neutrality and gravely jeopardizes UNRWA’s ability to provide services and protection to refugees.”

UNRWA referenced al-Hindi’s case specifically, noting it “also dismissed another staff member whose name appeared in the list of those newly elected to Hamas political office in Gaza.”

Contrary to critics’ claims, Neuer told Fox News Digital that Israel was not always trying to shut down UNRWA, saying that the Jewish State first saw the agency as “convenient” in the late 1960s. However, Neuer said that Israel’s view on the agency has greatly shifted, particularly since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attacks.

ISRAEL TELLS UN IT’S SHUTTING DOWN ALL UNRWA OPERATIONS IN JERUSALEM: ‘ACUTE SECURITY RISKS’

In January 2024, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini ordered an investigation of any staff who allegedly participated in Hamas’ attacks, which he condemned in a statement. UNRWA told Fox News Digital that “upon ascertaining that the individuals were indeed UNRWA staff members,” Lazzarini “immediately” terminated their appointments.

Late last month, Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon formally notified U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres of Israel’s demand that UNRWA cease operations in Jerusalem and evacuate its premises.

“Months of good-faith engagement with the United Nations and years of related grievances conveyed to UNRWA, have been met with blatant disregard, compromising its fundamental obligation to impartiality and neutrality beyond repair,” Danon wrote in the letter.

In a statement released last month, UNRWA spokesperson Jonathan Fowler slammed the laws that Israel passed in October 2024, saying that the Jewish State’s shortening of UNRWA staff visas was “tantamount to being evicted.” However, Fowler confirmed that “UNRWA remains absolutely committed to stay and deliver,” referring to the agency’s other locations in the region.

While Israel’s views on the agency have changed, prompting action from the country’s government, Neuer points out that several countries, including the U.S., failed to “take any meaningful action” against UNRWA. He called the countries’ past moves “largely performative and limited.”

When asked about what Americans need to know about UNRWA, Neuer says that the agency is “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” adding examples of U.N. officials who he says have gone against their mission. He also compared it to a social issue commonly debated here, namely anti-racism.

“Just like Americans were told for at least the past 5 years – maybe more – that anti-racism means you have to discriminate against white people, against heterosexuals, you know, all kinds of categories, we were told that’s tolerance, that’s equality. We were told that racism and discrimination was anti-racism and anti-discrimination. We were fed a pack of lies,” Neuer told Fox News Digital.

Addressing UNRWA and the U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Neuer added, They are no humanitarian agencies. They are agencies that systematically have incentivized and legitimized terrorist groups from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the Islamic regime in Iran. That’s the reality.”

When asked by Fox News Digital about Neuer’s allegations, UNRWA dismissed them and accused U.N. Watch of “spreading disinformation against” the agency.

“The agency systematically reviews all allegations of misconduct, including breaching U.N. values and humanitarian principles, and launches investigations into any credible allegation, applying disciplinary measures where misconduct has been established, up to and including separation,” UNRWA told Fox News Digital.

President Trump’s executive order called for “renewed scrutiny” of UNHRC, UNRWA and the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). In the order, UNHRC is accused of “protecting human rights abusers,” while UNESCO is slammed for its “failure to reform itself” among other issues.

  • History and psychology behind why people wear red on Valentine’s Day

History and psychology behind why people wear red on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day, celebrated on 14th February each year, has become one of the most popular holidays worldwide, marked by expressions of love, affection, and admiration. While the day itself has evolved from its origins, one thing remains consistent, the colour red. People across the world commonly wear red clothing on Valentine’s Day, and this tradition holds deep symbolic significance tied to the emotions the holiday is meant to celebrate.

Historical roots of Valentine’s Day and the colour red

To understand why red is the go-to colour for Valentine’s Day, it’s helpful to first explore the history of the holiday. The origins of Valentine’s Day can be traced back to ancient Rome, where a celebration called Lupercalia took place. This festival, which was held in mid-February, honoured fertility, love, and the coming of spring. The association with love and fertility links the colour red to this ancient celebration. Red, a bold and eye-catching colour, symbolised vitality, passion, and life, all of which were central themes of the festivities.

    istockphoto-1186052607-612x612

As the centuries passed, the holiday became more formalised, and its association with romantic love grew stronger. The connection between love and the colour red became even more prominent, thanks to the popularisation of red roses, which are often given on Valentine’s Day. Red roses, long a symbol of passionate love, reinforced the idea that the colour was tied to affection and desire. Over time, this connection between red and love became so strong that it became the colour of choice for expressing one’s romantic feelings.

    The psychology of red

The psychological impact of colour is another reason why red is such a powerful choice on Valentine’s Day. Red is known to stimulate emotions and provoke a strong reaction. It is a colour that represents strong, intense feelings such as passion, love, and desire. The colour triggers an increase in heart rate and can even raise adrenaline levels, which are often associated with excitement and attraction. These physical responses mirror the emotions people experience when they are in love or feel drawn to someone.
Moreover, red is a colour that draws attention. It is vibrant and stands out, making it a natural choice for a day dedicated to love and connection. Wearing red on Valentine’s Day signals to others that one is participating in the celebration of love and intimacy, creating an unspoken connection among those who wear the colour.

    Red and cultural significance

Across cultures, red is a colour that carries rich meanings. In Western cultures, red is commonly associated with love and passion, as previously mentioned. In Eastern cultures, such as in China, red is considered a colour of good luck, prosperity, and happiness. While the specific meaning may vary, the colour’s association with positive emotions makes it an appropriate choice for a day dedicated to love.

    istockphoto-2149714946-612x612

The popularity of wearing red on Valentine’s Day has also been influenced by the commercialisation of the holiday. Greeting card companies, florists, and jewellery businesses have all capitalised on the romantic appeal of red. This has contributed to the widespread practice of gifting red items, from roses to chocolates to heart-shaped trinkets, further solidifying red’s association with love.

    A Tradition of expression

Ultimately, wearing red on Valentine’s Day serves as a visual expression of affection, whether for a romantic partner, a friend, or even oneself. It’s a way of signalling to the world that you are celebrating love in its many forms. The colour red, with its rich symbolism and emotional impact, continues to be the most powerful and fitting choice for this heart-centred holiday.

    Can Keeping Secrets Improve Relationships?

The tradition of wearing red on Valentine’s Day is deeply rooted in history, psychology, and cultural symbolism. From its ancient associations with fertility and passion to its modern-day status as the colour of romantic love, red has earned its place as the quintessential colour for this day of affection. Whether it’s through a red dress, a rose, or a simple red accessory, wearing red on Valentine’s Day is a timeless way to honour love and connection.

Trump says he is pulling security clearances for people he does not ‘respect’

President Donald Trump said Sunday that he has revoked the security clearances of people he does not respect, which includes his political enemies.

“There are people that we don’t respect. If there are people that we thought that were breaking the law, that came very close to it in previous years, we do it. And we’ve done it with some people,” Trump told reporters, according to The Hill.

This comes after Trump on Friday pulled former President Joe Biden’s security clearance and stopped his daily intelligence briefings.

“We’ve done it with Biden himself. Biden himself. We think our country is not as safe when you gave him clearance,” Trump said on Sunday.

“We don’t think he knows what he’s doing and what he’s done to this country is a disgrace, and what he’s done in terms of allowing criminals, murderers, drug lords into our country, people from mental institutions into our country, he should be ashamed of himself,” he added.

The president argued that there is no need for Biden to receive a security clearance or receive daily intelligence briefings.

He had cited former special counsel Robert Hur’s report last year into Biden’s handling of classified materials. The report highlighted the former president’s frequent memory lapses and led to increased scrutiny from Republicans about his mental fitness.

“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information,” Trump wrote Friday on Truth Social. “Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances, and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings.”

“He set this precedent in 2021, when he instructed the Intelligence Community (IC) to stop the 45th President of the United States (ME!) from accessing details on National Security, a courtesy provided to former Presidents,” Trump’s post continued. “The Hur Report revealed that Biden suffers from ‘poor memory’ and, even in his ‘prime,’ could not be trusted with sensitive information. I will always protect our National Security — JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The Jharkhand Police has also joined the initiative, posting alerts on its official social media handles. One of the campaign’s eye-catching posters, shared on the I4C X handle, poses a thought-provoking question: “What will you do if your online sweetheart asks you for money? Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission: Over 73.90 Crore ABHA IDs Created Under ABDM To Boost Health Services, Says Health Ministry.

The post further warns: “This romance season, don’t get duped in the name of love! Join Cyber Dost in Romance Scam Prevention Week and learn how to outsmart scammers.” Authorities are urging people to stay vigilant and report fraud immediately by calling 1930 or lodging a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. The man planned a visit to Ranchi, but just before their meeting, he claimed he was detained at Delhi airport and needed urgent financial help. Believing his story, she transferred Rs 7 lakh — only to realise later that his profile had vanished without a trace. With online romance on the rise, the cyber police’s message is clear — Trust your heart, but verify with your mind. Don’t let emotions cloud your judgment — because in the digital world, not every love story is real.
