  • Packers’ Josh Jacobs thinks running back pay ‘has to go up’ as players like Saquon Barkley lead offenses

Packers’ Josh Jacobs thinks running back pay ‘has to go up’ as players like Saquon Barkley lead offenses

Super Bowl LIX will feature arguably the NFL’s top running back in Saquon Barkley who, in his inaugural season with the Philadelphia Eagles, rushed for over 2,000 yards to join elite company in that respect on his way to playing in the “Big Game” for the first time.

Barkley, like many other running backs in the NFL, are the tonesetter on offense – as he goes, the rest of the offense follows. The same can be said for other star backs in the NFL, so why is Barkley making just $12.583 million per year on his new Eagles deal?

The running back market has been scrutinized by those who play the position, as well as others throughout the football world, because there are teams that wouldn’t be able to function without their running backs.

For example, could you imagine Green Bay Packers’ success this season without Josh Jacobs, who was sixth in rushing yards this year? He spoke to Fox News Digital on Wednesday at radio row ahead of Super Bowl LIX, where he said the running back market “has to go up.”

“I think there’s no way it couldn’t go up, because I feel like the top seven guys right now, three of them got to get paid soon,” Jacobs, who also discussed his partnership with USAA, the official “Salute to Service” partner of the NFL. “Those guys are Bijan [Robinson], Jahmyr [Gibbs], and Kyren [Williams]. Their [contract] stuff is coming up.”

The players Jacobs mentioned are still on their rookie deals, but each of them finished in the top seven in rushing yards in 2024. And there were almost two 2,000-yard rushers last season, as Baltimore Ravens veteran Derrick Henry thrived with his new squad.

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

Jacobs showed love to his position group, only proving his point more.

“Obviously, doing what Saquon and Derrick has done. You even see Joe Mixon and what he’s done. I think it’s got to go up,” he explained. “Even with Christian and his extension he got at the beginning of the year, I think it helps the running back market. But seeing what we did, how much we were for our teams, I think the market has to go up.”

Jacobs signed a four-year, $48 million deal with the Packers in free agency this past season, joining a team that he had great success with as he scored 15 times on the ground.

But to think that players like Mixon, who finished with 1,312 yards from scrimmage for the Houston Texans, is only making $9.875 million per season doesn’t sound right when some tight ends are making close to double that.

In fact, Henry’s deal with the Ravens was only worth $16 million over two years.

Will the running back market finally adjust to where players in the position group are happy with the compensation? Or will teams still consider it a position that can be plug-and-play throughout the year?

    SUPER BOWL MEMORIES WITH USAA

Jacobs is in the Big Easy to not only enjoy his time around fellow peers while watching the Big Game – he’s surprising one of our military veterans with tickets to the Super Bowl.

Sergeant Major Kevin Bennett of the U.S. Marine Corps spent 34 years, from 1971-2004, dedicating his life to combat missions all over the world. Being a huge Packers fan, it was only right in Jacobs’ eyes that the running back be the one to surprise Bennett with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience football’s biggest stage.

Jacobs and Bennett will share some time together on Friday when tickets will be bestowed on one of America’s heroes.

“Man, I’m excited, because, obviously, to me, they’re the real heroes,” Jacobs said. “My grandpa served in the Air Force and my uncle actually served in the marines. So, for me, it’s definitely closer to home. To be able sit down, talk to him, pick his brain a little bit, tell him I appreciate his service and things like that is definitely huge for me.”

  • New York ‘polluters pay’ law backcharging oil, gas companies faces Republican AGs’ lawsuit: ‘Devastating’

New York ‘polluters pay’ law backcharging oil, gas companies faces Republican AGs’ lawsuit: ‘Devastating’

FIRST ON FOX: In one of his first major moves, newly-elected West Virginia Attorney General J.B. McCuskey is suing New York over the state’s new “devastating” law that retroactively charges energy companies billions of dollars for pollution from 2000 to 2018.

“This bill is an attempt by New York to step into the shoes of the federal government to regulate something that they have absolutely no business regulating, and we are more than happy to step in and tell the rest of the country, along with our incredible other state partners, that this is unconstitutional and it won’t stand,” McCuskey told Fox News Digital in an interview.

The lawsuit alleges the law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul, known as the Climate Change Superfund Act, unfairly targets traditional energy producers—regardless of whether they operate in New York—by imposing massive financial liabilities.

“These energy choices—and the benefits that come with them—entail necessary tradeoffs. All energy use, including energy deriving from ‘renewable’ sources, creates some pollution,” the 59-page lawsuit reads. “Traditional energy is no different.”

HOCHUL SIGNS BILL THAT WILL CHARGE OIL AND GAS FIRMS $75B, BUT CRITICS SAY CUSTOMERS WILL REALLY FOOT THE TAB

According to the complaint, the burden of these costs won’t fall on New York consumers but will instead be forced onto producers and consumers in other states. The suit also alleges that New York is using these funds to subsidize its own infrastructure projects, such as a new sewer system in New York City, that have been damaged by extreme weather events.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York Albany Division, cites New York AG Letitia James, Sean Mahar, the Interim Commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Amanda Hiller, the Acting Tax Commissioner of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

“When you live in the real world, like I do, and you live in a place like West Virginia, where the values of the people indicate that we pay our bills, we’re humble, we’re modest, and we’re respectful of the people around us,” McCuskey said. “These kind of things hit us a lot harder. And so, you know, this is really a fight between the the elites and the people that make this country run on the back end.”

Attorneys general for Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Wyoming also joined the lawsuit. The West Virginia Coal Association, the Gas and Oil Association of West Virginia and the Alpha Metallurgical Resources, Inc., are also joining the complaint.

The bill, first introduced under the Biden administration, is a “landmark legislation shifts the cost of climate adaptation from everyday New Yorkers to the fossil fuel companies most responsible for the pollution,” according to the governor’s December 2024 press release.

TRUMP EXECUTIVE ORDER FORCES NEW JERSEY TO CANCEL ITS FIRST OFFSHORE WIND FARM

“By ensuring those responsible for historic climate-altering emissions bear the costs of the significant health, environmental, and economic impacts already being passed on to New Yorkers, this law will complement the State’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, help communities adapt to the climate-driven impacts experienced today, and leverage the significant investments the Governor is making in climate resilience,” Mahar, the state’s Environmental Conservation Interim Commissioner said in the press release.

The law mandates that fossil fuel companies collectively contribute $75 billion over the next 25 years into a dedicated “superfund” that would then help rebuild climate change-induced infrastructure damage.

“This liability could be devastating to traditional energy producers,” the lawsuit states. “Indeed, the ruinous liability that the Act promises—especially when paired with similar efforts that might arise in other States—could force coal, oil, and natural gas producers to shutter altogether.”

In total, 38 firms – including American oil giants Exxon and Chevron, the UK’s Shell and BP, and Brazil’s Petrobras – categorized as “carbon polluters” could be on the receiving end of hefty bills, Fox News Digital previously reported.

New York’s effort to hold energy producers accountable comes at a time when the Trump administration is moving in the opposite direction, rolling back climate commitments through a recent executive order.

Trump signed two executive orders last month dramatically reshaping U.S. energy and environmental policy from the Biden administration’s priorities. The “Unleashing American Energy” order aims to boost domestic fossil fuel production by cutting regulations and expediting permits for oil, gas, and coal projects. Meanwhile, “Putting America First in International Environmental Agreements” withdraws the U.S. from global climate commitments, including the Paris Agreement, and halts funding for international climate initiatives. This is the second time under a Trump presidency that the U.S. has exited the Paris Agreement.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the New York governor’s, attorney general’s, and acting tax commissioner’s offices as well as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for comment.

  • Pfizer to pay nearly M over kickbacks for migraine drug once promoted by Lady Gaga

Pfizer to pay nearly $60M over kickbacks for migraine drug once promoted by Lady Gaga

The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer will pay nearly $60 million to resolve charges that a company it acquired paid kickbacks so that physicians would prescribe a specific migraine drug to patients, thereby defrauding Medicare and other federal health care programs.

The Justice Department announced Friday that Biohaven paid improper remuneration, including in the form of speaker honoraria and meals at high-end restaurants, to healthcare professionals to induce them to prescribe the migraine medication Nurtec ODT more often in violation of the anti-kickback statute.

The scheme took place from March 1, 2020, through Sept. 30, 2022. Pfizer bought Biohaven in October 2022.

PFIZER’S PAXLOVID FAILS AS 15-DAY TREATMENT FOR LONG COVID, STUDY FINDS

Prosecutors said that certain prescribers who attended multiple speaker programs on the same topic received no educational benefit from attending repeat programs and that certain Biohaven speaker programs were attended by individuals with no educational need to attend, such as the speakers’ spouses, family members, or friends, or colleagues from the speakers’ own medical practice.

Pfizer ended the Nurtec speaker programs after paying $11.5 billion to buy Biohaven.

“Patients deserve to know that their doctor is prescribing medications based on their doctor’s medical judgment, and not as a result of financial incentives from pharmaceutical companies,” U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross for the Western District of New York said. “This settlement reflects our commitment to hold those who violate the laws accountable, regardless of their status or prestige.”

Pfizer did not admit wrongdoing in agreeing to settle.

“We are pleased to put this legacy matter behind us, so that we can continue to focus on the needs of patients,” the New York-based drugmaker said in a statement.

Nurtec ODT, also known as Rimegepant, was approved for treating acute migraine in February 2020 and its approval was extended to preventing episodic migraine in June 2021. The drug was promoted by singer Lady Gaga in 2023, who said in a social media post that she had suffered with migraines since childhood and said she wished she had found the drug sooner.

The civil settlement resolves an August 2021 lawsuit filed in the Rochester, New York federal court by Patricia Frattasio, a former Biohaven neuroscience sales specialist.

She will receive about $8.4 million from the settlement. About $41.8 million will go to the federal government and $9.5 million will go to state Medicaid programs.

The False Claims Act lets whistleblowers sue on behalf of the government and share in recoveries.

Meanwhile, anti‑kickback statute prohibits offering or paying anything of value to induce the referral of items or services covered by Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE and other federal health care programs. The statute is intended to ensure that medical providers’ judgments are not compromised by improper financial incentives.
