The White House is blasting House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries after pledging to fight Republicans’ agenda “in the streets.”

LARRY KUDLOW: Don’t believe the fake news, Trump is cutting spending and the bureaucracy

The Beltway swamp hates it, but President Donald Trump is bound and determined to shrink the federal budget and its massive deficit, and to shrink the 2 million-plus federal workforce.

A score of liberal news outlets are all claiming that Trump’s directive to freeze certain federal spending was rescinded on Wednesday. Except, no such thing took place.

A memo from the Office of Management and Budget was pulled back, mainly because it was badly written.

Take the headline from the Washington Post, for example: “Trump White House rescinds order freezing federal spending, reversing course.”

But Mr. Trump’s executive order to put a hold on various grants, loans, and credits that have not yet been spent or dispersed continues to stand.

He still wants to freeze and then review funding for things like Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and the Green New Deal.

He is still going after the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act and a whole bunch of other programs that are based on some kind of status called “disadvantaged businesses or communities.”

DEI and affirmative action strike again, but they are both illegal. And the President is well within his executive authority.

‘Kudlow’ panelists Sandra Smith, Taylor Riggs and John Carney evaluate the White House’s efforts to stop government waste.

In other words, he’s not pulling back. And it’s the executive order that counts.

Not to mention, all this could save close to $1 trillion in federal spending and deficits.

As far as shrinking the federal workforce, another Trump executive order provides a generous eight-month severance package to workers who want to resign, rather than work for the administration.

Once again, while the liberal media and the Washington swamp howl, Mr. Trump absolutely has the authority to do this under the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978. Hat-tip to the Wall Street Journal editorial page for pointing this out.

The President can redesignate jobs if the role involves policymaking at any level, be it a Cabinet secretary or an assistant secretary or a mid-level career bureaucrat.

And Mr. Trump is restoring a job category known as “Policy/Career,” which was formerly known as “Schedule F”. Which allows him to say: if you disagree with my policy agenda, and you work against it, you’re fired.

Well, over 50,000 civil servants will have to deal with this. And over two million civil servants will have to figure out if they want to resign or not.

Odds are, 5 to 10% will resign. That alone could save taxpayers $100 billion.

If you want to stay in the game, you have to show up for work and toe the line for President Trump’s election mandate for policy change.

And don’t listen to any fake news.

Held to the ‘Highest Standards’

President Donald Trump set his sights on DEI standards at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Thursday after a deadly in-air collision at the nation’s capital.

Trump, speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room, highlighted efforts by the Biden administration to lower aviation standards, though he acknowledged that the cause of Wednesday night’s crash has yet to be determined.

“We must have only the highest standards for those who work in our aviation system,” Trump said. “Only the highest aptitude — you have to be the highest intellect — and psychologically superior people, were allowed to qualify for air traffic controllers.”…Read more

Dozens of senior officials in the U.S. agency that administers foreign aid were reportedly placed on leave Monday amid an investigation into alleged resistance to President Donald Trump’s orders.

At least 56 U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) officials were placed on administrative leave with full pay and benefits, Politico first reported. Several hundred contractors based in Washington and elsewhere were also laid off, a current and a former official told the Associated Press.

These actions come after Secretary of State Marco Rubio, acting on Trump’s executive order, paused all U.S. foreign assistance funded by or through the State Department and USAID. The 90-day pause has halted thousands of U.S.-funded humanitarian, development and security programs worldwide and forced aid organizations to lay off hundreds of employees because they can’t make payroll…Read more

Hegseth Takes Command

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth arrived for his first day at the Pentagon on Monday with a message regarding the Department of Defense’s (DOD’s) mission.

Greeted by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. and a gaggle of reporters, Hegseth said it was “an honor to serve on behalf of the president and serve on behalf of the country,” adding, “The warfighters are ready to go.”

Hegseth quickly turned to the border crisis, acknowledging how President Donald Trump was “hitting the ground running” with executive orders declaring an emergency at the southern border and designating cartels foreign terrorist organizations. Hegseth said the DOD “snapped to” last week in sending more troops to aid in erecting barriers along the southern border, as well as to “ensure mass deportations,” adding: “That is something the Defense Department absolutely will continue to do.”…Read more

Trump White House rolls out social media account to hold ‘fake news accountable’

FIRST ON FOX: The White House on Monday afternoon rolled out a new social media account aimed to hold “fake news accountable.”

“Welcome to the official Rapid Response account of the Trump 47 White House. We will be supporting President Donald J. Trump’s America First agenda and holding the Fake News accountable for their lies. Let’s Make America Great Again!” the newly-formed X account, Rapid Response 47, posted in its first message.

President Donald Trump’s first administration included labeling certain news outlets as “fake news” for reporting what the president claimed was biased content intended to undermine his leadership. Trump continued his fiery relationship with media outlets across his 2024 campaign.

A senior GOP strategist celebrated that the new account “is bad news for the fake news media.”

“President Trump won the 2024 election in part due to the irreverent and swift nature of their pushback against fake narratives and amplification of the facts,” the strategist said. “A Trump Rapid Response account is bad news for the fake news media and good news for the American people.”

‘FLOODING THE ZONE’: TRUMP HITS WARP SPEED IN FIRST WEEK BACK IN OFFICE

Trump frequently has sparred with reporters over promoting what he says is “fake news,” including earlier in January when the 47th president slammed the Washington Post for claiming his tariff policy would be “pared down.” He hit back on his Truth Social platform that the outlet was pushing “fake news.”

Trump’s first administration also had a Rapid Response X account, but the account focused on breaking news and updates rather than spotlighting what the administration views as “lies” promoted by the media.
