Trump names Michael Ellis, Joe Kent and Sean Parnell to positions

President Donald Trump continues appointing new people to his second administration, naming three recent picks in a series of Truth Social posts on Monday.

Just two weeks after taking office, Trump announced that Michael Ellis will serve as deputy director of the CIA. Ellis, who will not need to be approved by the U.S. Senate, will work under CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

Trump wrote that the incoming deputy director, who is also a lawyer, will help “fix the CIA, and make it, once again, the Greatest Intelligence Agency in the World.”

“During my First Term, Michael served at the White House National Security Council, and helped expose abuses of the ‘unmasking’ process by the Obama Administration at the beginning of the Russia, Russia, Russia, Hoax,” the president wrote. “Michael was also General Counsel of the House Intelligence Committee under Devin Nunes, and was selected to be General Counsel of the National Security Agency before being corruptly purged by the Biden Administration.”

In another post, Trump named Joe Kent to serve as director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). According to the agency’s website, the NCTC operates within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and helps officials by “analyzing, understanding, and responding to the terrorist threat.”

“As a Soldier, Green Beret, and CIA Officer, Joe has hunted down terrorists and criminals his entire adult life,” Trump’s Truth Social post read. “Above all, Joe knows the terrible cost of terrorism, losing his wonderful wife, Shannon, a Great American Hero, who was killed in the fight against ISIS.”

“Joe continues to honor her legacy by staying in the fight. Joe will help us keep America safe by eradicating all terrorism, from the jihadists around the World, to the cartels in our backyard,” the president concluded.

  • Trump orders assessment of aviation safety, names acting FAA administrator

Trump orders assessment of aviation safety, names acting FAA administrator

President Donald Trump on Thursday signed two executive orders appointing a new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) deputy administrator and ordering an immediate assessment of aviation safety.

The orders came after an American Airlines plane carrying 64 people and an Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers crashed in midair at about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The aircraft plummeted into the frigid Potomac River near Reagan National Airport, leaving 67 people presumed dead.

In the Oval Office Thursday, Trump signed an order appointing Chris Rocheleau acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Rocheleau most recently served as National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) CEO and held multiple leadership roles at the FAA during his more than 20-year tenure, including director of the office of emergency operations and investigations.

The NBAA wrote in a statement it “welcomed” the announcement.

“Chris is an outstanding leader who will be good for the FAA, good for aviation and good for the country, especially at this challenging time,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “He has demonstrated excellence at every level in the government, military and aviation industry.”

Trump called Rocheleau a “very capable guy” while signing the order.

A second executive order ordered an immediate assessment of aviation safety and an elevation of “competence” over diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

While signing the order, he said former presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama’s DEI policies were “just crazy.”

The memorandum says the Obama administration introduced a biographical questionnaire at the FAA to shift the hiring focus away from objective aptitude, and the Biden administration later encouraged the recruitment of people with “severe intellectual disabilities.”

“During my first term, my Administration raised standards to achieve the highest standards of safety and excellence,” Trump wrote in the memo. “The Biden Administration egregiously rejected merit-based hiring, requiring all executive departments and agencies to implement dangerous ‘diversity equity and inclusion’ tactics, and specifically recruiting individuals with ‘severe intellectual’ disabilities in the FAA.”

While Trump ordered an immediate return to merit-based recruitment, hiring and promotion on his second day in office, he noted the recent plane crash “underscores the need to elevate safety and competence as the priority of the FAA.”

Trump said Thursday the collision was a “confluence of bad decisions that were made, and you have people that lost their lives, violently lost their lives.”

The families of Israeli hostages Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy and Liri Albag have been informed that that their daughters, held in Gaza for 475 days, are slated to be freed on Saturday in the second round of hostage releases.

Hamas revealed the names of the four women, all of whom are members of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Friday, though the media was asked to wait until their families had been informed before releasing their identities.

While the exchange of another four hostages under the deal is a positive step forward in the continued ceasefire, it also could be in direct violation of the agreement as female civilians were supposed to be released ahead of all female soldiers, followed by the elderly and wounded men.

Of the 30 remaining people Hamas has agreed to release in the first phase of the ceasefire following the release of three women last week, two others were female civilians, including Arbel Yehud and Shiri Bibas, along with her two sons Kfir, who was just 9 months old when he was abducted with his 4-year-old brother Ariel.

Israel had instructed Hamas to release Yehud this week amid concerns that her captivity may be prolonged as she is believed to be held by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group, not Hamas.

The world has also been waiting for news of the Bibas family.

Hamas claimed in November 2023 that Shiri, Kfir and Ariel were killed in an Israeli airstrike, though Israel has said it has no intelligence to support these claims.

Shiri and her sons have therefore never been assessed by Israeli officials to be deceased, and many have held out hope they will be reunited with Yaren Bibas, husband to Shiri and father to two boys, who was separated from his family following their abduction on Oct. 7, 2023.

He is also slated to be released within the first phase of the ceasefire.

Each of these festivals is unique and carries its own cultural significance. Bohag Bihu, for instance, marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year and the agricultural season, while Kati Bihu signals the completion of sowing and transplanting rice. On the other hand, Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu, celebrates the end of the harvest season, a time to rejoice in the fruits of hard labour. The main day, Magh Bihu 2025 date, falls on Wednesday, January 15, but what about Magh Bihu 2025 Uruka as per the Assamese calendar? The first day of Magh Bihu is known as Uruka or the Bihu Eve. What are the seven days of Magh Bihu? Let’s dive deep into the significance, traditions and celebrations related to the harvest festival of Assam. Makar Sankranti 2025 Calendar: Know Dates of Pongal, Magh Bihu, Lohri, Khichdi Parv and More To Celebrate the Harvest Festival in India.

Magh Bihu stands out as a festival that deeply honours the efforts of the farming community. It is a time of gratitude for the bountiful harvest and is marked by joyful feasts, the lighting of bonfires, and the participation in cultural games. As a tribute to the God of Fire, the festival is also a prayer for the coming year to bring prosperity and continued success.

    Magh Bihu 2025 Date

Magh Bihu is celebrated on the final day of the Assamese month of Puh, which in 2025 falls on January 15. This festival is symbolic of the arrival of spring, a season that brings nature to life with colourful blossoms. The day is not just a festival but also a regional holiday in Assam, offering people time to celebrate and reflect.

    Magh Bihu 2025 Uruka Date

The first day of Magh Bihu is known as Uruka. It is also known as the Bihu Eve, as it is celebrated a day before the main festival day. Magh Bihu 2025 Uruka date falls on Tuesday, January 14.

    Seven Days of Magh Bihu

    1. Bhogali Uruka: The eve of Magh Bihu, when families gather to feast and build Meji structures around a bonfire.

    2. Magh Bihu: The central day of the festival, when people light the Meji to symbolise the renewal of the agricultural cycle.

    3. Goru Bihu: A day to honour cattle, who are important for farming.

    4. Manuh Bihu: A day to emphasise social bonds and greetings.

Magh Bihu 2025: Traditions, Celebrations & Significance

In earlier times, the festivities surrounding Magh Bihu would span an entire month, but in modern times, they have evolved into a week-long event, with the main celebration taking place on a single day. The eve of Magh Bihu, known as Uruka, is when the celebrations begin. This night is filled with joyous activity, with the sounds of the traditional Dhols (drums) setting the atmosphere for the occasion. People gather to cook together, enjoy hearty meals, and celebrate around a large bonfire.

Uruka – Significance in Magh Bihu Celebrations

One of the fun-filled traditions of Uruka is the playful act of stealing vegetables from neighbouring gardens. This mischievous custom, though lighthearted, adds a sense of community spirit and camaraderie to the festival.

The main day of Magh Bihu, however, begins at dawn with a special post-harvest ceremony called “Meji.” On this day, people gather around bonfires in the fields, offering prayers to their ancestors and gods for blessings and good fortune in the future. A unique aspect of the Meji ritual is the collection of half-burnt firewood from the bonfire. Participants take these pieces of wood home and throw them at fruit trees, believing it will bring positive outcomes for the harvest in the following year.

As the day progresses, the festival transforms into a cultural spectacle. Music fills the air as people participate in traditional performances. The celebration includes a variety of engaging traditional games such as cockfighting, buffalo races, nightingale singing contests, and egg-throwing. These activities, combined with feasting and merriment, create an atmosphere of celebration and unity that is central to Magh Bihu.

This festive spirit, filled with cultural pride and gratitude for the harvest, continues to be a vital part of Assamese tradition, and Magh Bihu remains one of the most cherished festivals in Assam.
