‘Hatred underpins them’: Nurses suspended after viral video threatening to kill Israeli man

Two Sydney nurses who threatened on camera to kill an Israeli man and other Jewish people in their care were identified and immediately suspended from practicing.

The Australian Department of Health and Aged Care announced in a statement on Thursday that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of New South Wales (NSW) suspended the registrations of registered nurses Ahmad Rashad Nadir and Sarah Abu Lebdeh, effective immediately.

Nadir and Lebdeh, who initially claimed they were doctors while donning scrubs, threatened Israeli influencer Max Veifer on an international video chat website called Chatrouletka.

After asking Veifer about his nationality, Lebdeh said “it’s Palentine’s country, not your country you piece of s—,” according to the video.

She proceeded to tell Veifer “when the time comes, I want you to remember my face, so you can understand that you will die the most disgusting death.”

Nadir chimed in and they both said they would not treat Veifer and would kill him if he came to their hospital.

“You have no idea how many Israelis came to this hospital and…,” Nadir said, while sliding his arm across his neck in a throat-slashing motion.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency automatically updated their record on the public register of practitioners, making the two Bankstown Hospital nurses unable to practice nursing anywhere in Australia, in any context.

“The idea that you would single out a particular group in our community and indicate you wouldn’t care for them, let alone actively threaten their lives, runs against every single principle in our health care system,” the health department wrote in the statement.

Officials said “their sickening comments – and the hatred that underpins them – have no place in our health system and no place anywhere in Australia.”

The department added Australians have a right to feel safe wherever they go and “nowhere should be safer” than a hospital.

“Health workers have a solemn duty to treat and heal everyone who comes before them needing help,” according to the statement. “The overwhelming majority hold to that oath.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed on Tuesday the pair were “rightly” referred to the NSW Police for criminal investigation.

“Individuals found to have committed criminal antisemitic acts will face the full force of our laws,” Albanese wrote in a post on X. “The footage is sickening and shameful.”

On Wednesday, Australia enacted a hate crimes bill imposing minimum mandatory penalties for certain hate-related crimes, including six years for terrorist offenses, three years for financing terrorism and one year for displaying hate symbols.

Lebdeh’s family members spoke to various news outlets claiming she was “baited” and that she was “sorry,” the New York Post reported.

Israel’s biggest newspaper, Israel Hayom, seemingly responded to the remarks with a story titled, “Sorry, not sorry,” and accused the two nurses of minimizing the incident, according to the report.

Haskel added there must be “zero tolerance” for racism and antisemitism and noted threats must be met with “the full force of the law.”

Man offering to purchase landfill to find lost Bitcoin hard drive worth millions

A man is raising the stakes in his years-long battle to get back a hard drive that contains a discarded bitcoin key worth somewhere around $800 million by offering to purchase a landfill in Great Britain in an effort to find the wallet before it closes down.

James Howells has begged and pleaded with the Newport City Council, in South Wales, to gain access to the mountains of waste to find the hard drive that was accidentally thrown away in 2013, the New York Times reported.

“Seems like a better plan for me and the city,” Howells told the newspaper, noting that he envisions clearing out the trash and converting the site to a park, or possibly making it a dump site again. “The landfill gets cleaned. I get to dig for my hard drive.”

He previously offered to fully fund the excavation process and share 25% of the recovered Bitcoin with the Newport City Council. At the time, a judge stated that Howells had “no reasonable grounds” for bringing the claim and that there was “no realistic prospect” of success if the case were to proceed to a full trial.

Now the city is planning to close the landfill for good.

Howells, a computer science analyst, accidentally discarded the hard drive with a pile of trash. He was cleaning out his office in 2013 when he left it with other items destined for the dump. A miscommunication with his partner at the time led to the drive being gathered up and taken to the landfill, the Times reported.

To his misfortune, the hard drive, a backup from an old gaming computer, contained the only copy of his 51-character private key, used to access Bitcoin wallets. In the late 2000s, when cryptocurrency was in its infancy, Howell had mined it as a hobbyist.

However, he realized his mistake months later, as well as the fact that the Bitcoin wallet was worth millions. He’s been trying to get it back ever since.

Despite his attempts, the Newport City Council has suggested that the chances of Howells recovering the 12-year-old wallet are slim.

Washington man faces assault charges after allegedly attacking teen referees during son’s hockey game

A man from Washington state is facing assault charges after he was accused of shoving two teenage referees during his son’s hockey game, which was captured on video by security cameras.

Uriel Isaac Cortes Gonzalez, 42, is facing two counts of misdemeanor assault after police say he attacked two referees, both under the age of 15, in an “unprovoked” incident during a youth hockey game Sunday.

According to court records, officials with the Seattle Police Department received reports of an “irate parent” assaulting two teenage refs at the Kraken Community Iceplex Sunday just before noon.

The caller told a dispatcher the man had left before the game ended, but he was later located by police at a traffic light near the complex.

Gonzalez told police he witnessed his son being assaulted by another player from the opposing team during the game, according to arrest records. He alleged his son was “punched and kicked for about thirty seconds, and the referees did nothing to stop the assault.”

He claimed he walked to the ice to break up the fight and that he shoved one referee to get to his son. He also claimed he was unaware the game officials were minors.

Police reviewed the incident, which was captured by the complex’s security cameras, and found that Gonzalez’s version of the incident was not supported by video evidence.

According to the arrest report, there was no fight going on at the time of the alleged assault. The referees, 13 and 14, told police they had already broken up a fight and had gone over to the box were officials were sitting to document it. At that time, video footage shows Gonzalez approaching them both from behind and shoveing them to the ground.

“There was no fight at the time, and the game was stopped,” police records stated, adding “the assault appeared to be unprovoked.”

The two victims did not appear to have serious injuries and were treated on site. Police arrested Gonzalez, and he was charged Tuesday with two counts of misdemeanor assault.

The Kraken released a statement in response to the incident saying Gonzalez has been banned from the rink.

“The Seattle Kraken and Kraken Community Iceplex strive to foster an environment of just that — community — where everyone can share their love of hockey. The Kraken code posted on the walls at KCI reminds us of that, and our values, every day. There is absolutely no place in hockey, or any sport, for the behavior that occurred on Sunday.

“The Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association and USA Hockey are leading an investigation with the authorities, and we have been assisting them since the incident occurred. The person in question has been banned from our facility.”

Two Australian healthcare workers are being investigated after threatening to kill an Israeli man on camera, claiming they had previously killed Jews in their care.

The man and woman, who said they were doctors, spoke with the man via Chatrouletka, a website where strangers are matched internationally to have conversations.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns confirmed the two individuals are workers at Bankstown Hospital.

Minns and Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the pair were identified quickly and were “stood down” by NSW authorities.

“They have rightly been referred to the NSW Police for criminal investigation,” Albanese wrote in a statement Tuesday on X. “Individuals found to have committed criminal antisemitic acts will face the full force of our laws.”

Albanese described the comments as “vile,” and condemned the healthcare workers’ actions.

“The antisemitic video circulating today is disgusting,” he wrote. “The footage is sickening and shameful. These antisemitic comments, driven by hate, have no place in our health system and no place anywhere in Australia.”

The Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) reported more than 2,000 antisemitic incidents in Australia since Palestinian militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Data was collected between Oct. 1, 2023 and Sept. 30, 2024.

In a news conference on Tuesday, Alexander Ryvchin, ECAJ co-chief executive officer, said members of the community have felt unsafe at Australian hospitals.

“Hospitals are a place where people should never feel unsafe,” Ryvchin said. “It’s the exact contrary. People should feel entirely comfortable that they’ll be treated based on their condition and humanity, not in the way that we saw in that video.”

He added the incident was the “tip of the iceberg,” and he believes there are many Australians with the same ideology.

“Antisemitism has sadly taken root in Australia, and we need to expunge it root and branch,” Ryvchin said. “There need to be consequences.”

On Wednesday, Australia enacted a hate crimes bill imposing minimum mandatory penalties for certain hate-related crimes, including six years for terrorist offenses, three years for financing terrorism and one year for displaying hate symbols.

“There have been similar instances of such behavior in Sydney and Perth where perpetrators have been convicted and given only a token fine,” the ECAJ wrote in a statement posted on its website. “That is also unacceptable because perpetrators come to regard such fines as merely the cost of “doing business” and not as a real deterrent.”

Though it has faced more intolerance, the Jewish population of Australia is substantially smaller than the Muslim population, which accounts for 3.2%, according to previous reporting. Jews account for just 0.4% of the population.

The Australian Federal Police was previously tasked with conducting an operation that would “focus on threats, violence, and hatred” targeting the Jewish community, Fox News Digital reported.

In addition, the Prime Minister allocated $25 million, about $15 million in the U.S., beginning in 2022 to increase security for Jewish organizations, according to a Reuters report. He also took a stand against hate speech and banned the Nazi salute.

New Jersey man arrested in fencing operation allegedly has links to Joe Burrow burglary

Two men who were believed to have ties to a string of burglaries in the U.S., including at a famous pro athlete’s home in Ohio, were arrested on Tuesday, officials announced.

Dimitriy Nezhinskiy and Juan Villar were charged with “with conspiracy to receive stolen property related to their purchasing of stolen goods that traveled across state lines,” the Eastern District of New York said in a news release. The two men will be arranged on Wednesday.

Nezhinskiy, of North Bergen, New Jersey and Villar, of Queens, New York, were accused of acting as “fences” for South American-based crime groups who traveled around the U.S. to commit burglaries targeting luxury items. The two were accused of being linked to the “prolific burglar” Bryan Leandro Herrera Maldonado, who officials said committed 16 burglaries in the U.S. between 2019 and 2020.

Officials said Nezhinskiy was linked to at least two members of a crew who were allegedly involved in the Dec. 9, 2024, burglary of a “high-profile athlete in Ohio.” Sources told Fox News Channel the athlete in question is Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow.

Law enforcement officials executed a search warrant for a pawn shop the two men allegedly operated in New York City’s Diamond District. Authorities “seized large quantities of suspected stolen property, including dozens of high-end watches and jewelry. Law enforcement also recovered large quantities of cash and marijuana,” officials said.

Another search warrant was executed in a storage facility in New Jersey allegedly belonging to Nezhinskiy. Officials said “large quantities of luxury goods and clothing, including high-end handbags, wine, sports memorabilia, jewelry, artwork and power tools consistent with those commonly used in burglaries and opening safes” were recovered.

Nezhinskiy was arrested in New Jersey, and Villar was arrested in New York, officials said.

The arrests came weeks after four Chilean nationals were arrested in connection with the burglary to Burrow’s home on Dec. 9, 2024. At the time of the arrest, authorities found “an old LSU shirt and Bengals hat, believed to be stolen from the December 9, 2024 burglary in Hamilton County, Ohio,” which is where Burrow’s home is located.

The search of the vehicle the suspects were in also discovered “two Husky automatic center punch tools wrapped in a cloth towel.” The tool has been used by the South American Theft Group, according to authorities.

Burrow’s home was burglarized while he was in Dallas facing the Cowboys. Police were called to Burrow’s home by Olivia Ponton, a model and social media influencer who was identified as Burrow’s employee in the incident report.

Burrow discussed the break-in a few days after its occurrence during a media availability, where he stressed the difficulty of living a life where his personal information is in the public’s eye.

“So obviously everybody has heard what has happened. I feel like my privacy has been violated in more ways than one. And way more is already out there than I would want out there and that I care to share, so that’s all I got to say about that,” Burrow began.

An Iraqi man who carried out Quran burnings in Sweden is killed in a shooting

An Iraqi man who carried out several Quran burnings in Sweden has been killed in a shooting near Stockholm, authorities said Thursday.

Salwan Momika, 38, staged several burnings and desecrations of Islam’s holy book in Sweden in 2023. Videos of the Quran burnings got worldwide publicity and raised anger and criticism in several Muslim nations, leading to riots and unrest in many places.

The Stockholm District Court said a verdict scheduled Thursday in a trial in which Momika was a defendant was postponed because one of the defendants had died. A judge at the court, Göran Lundahl, confirmed that the deceased was Momika. He said he didn’t have any information on when or how Momika died.

Police said they were alerted to a shooting Wednesday night at an apartment building in Sodertalje, near Stockholm, and found a man with gunshot wounds who later died.

Broadcaster SVT reported that the victim was Momika.

Prosecutors said five people were arrested overnight on suspicion of murder. They said all were adults but gave no further details.

Prosecutor Rasmus Öman said the investigation is still in its early stages and that the suspects and others still have to be questioned.

Momika came to Sweden from Iraq in 2018 and was granted a three-year residence permit in 2021, according to SVT.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said Sweden’s security service was involved because “there is obviously a risk that there is a connection to a foreign power,” Swedish news agency TT reported.

Momika argued that his protests targeted the religion of Islam, not Muslim people. He said he wanted to protect Sweden’s population from the messages of the Quran. Swedish police allowed his demonstrations, citing freedom of speech, while filing charges against him.

Last March, he was arrested in neighboring Norway after stating that he would seek asylum there, and was sent back to Sweden, TT reported.

Momika and a co-defendant were charged in August with incitement to hatred because of statements they made in connection with the Quran burnings. A verdict was supposed to be handed down on Thursday morning.

Philadelphia man shot after Eagles’ playoff win among multiple violent incidents

The Philadelphia Eagles earned a trip to the Super Bowl, and many of the city’s residents have had to pay a steep price for the ensuing chaos.

A 20-year-old man was shot during chaotic incidents that ensued in the city following the team’s NFC championship victory over the Washington Commanders last Sunday. An 18-year-old suspect named Amre Wright has since been taken into custody, according to FOX 29.

The victim is reportedly in stable condition.

The shooting is just one of many incidents that involved harm to a local. The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating one stabbing, two shootings, one act of vandalism and a vehicle striking several pedestrians, per FOX 29. So far, a total of 30 adults and one juvenile were cited for Disorderly Conduct or Failure to Disperse, and three adults were charged.

The individuals who have been charged reportedly include 34-year-old Tramayne Davis-Blockson, who was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Instrument of Crime and Recklessly Endangering Another Person in connection to a stabbing; and 32-year-old Jose Moya and 44-year-old Eugene Dennis, who were both charged with aggravated assault in connection to the assault of a police officer.

Additionally, a 26-year-old woman was reportedly taken into custody after striking eight pedestrians in the street, and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office was reportedly vandalized with a shattered front glass door and two cracked glass windows.

A Temple University student even died after climbing up a flag pole and falling to his death. Tyler Sabapathy, 18, was a student and gymnast from Toronto, Canada with more than 120 medals in provincial, regional and international competitions. He attempted to climb a flag pole in the city in celebration of the team’s win, and was taken to the hospital and was in very critical condition before he eventually died.

Eagles fans have been the subject of national scrutiny throughout the team’s playoff run this season.

The fanbase garnered negative national attention after one of their own, New Jersey man Ryan Caldwell, was seen in a viral video verbally berating a woman with vulgar slurs during the team’s first playoff game against the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 12. Caldwell was later fired from his job and released a statement apologizing for his actions.

Los Angeles Rams defensive end Jared Verse says Eagles fans hurled snowballs at him after his team’s divisional round playoff loss in Philadelphia on Jan. 19. Verse made comments about “hating” the fans to reporters in the week leading up to the game.

Amidst the widespread criticism, former Dallas Cowboys star linebacker DeMarcus Ware told Fox News Digital that Eagles fans once hurled snowballs stuffed with batteries at his mother during a game his rookie year in 2005.

“My rookie season when my mom was in the stands, I told her not to wear my jersey, and she was in the front row, and we’re up there in Philly. They were putting batteries in snowballs and throwing them, and one of them hit my mom,” Ware said. “I turned around at the time, and I didn’t care about football anymore. I wanted to go get the guy who was in the stands. But I didn’t.”

California man proposes state secede from the US

A California man is leading the charge to have the state split from the United States.

The office of California Secretary of State Shirley Weber said Marcus Evans can begin collecting signatures to put the questions to voters.

“Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?” the question reads.

To qualify for the November 2028 ballot, Evans must collect the signatures of at least 546,651 registered voters by July 22. If approved, the measure wouldn’t trigger independence for the Golden State.

Instead it would declare a “vote of no confidence in the United States of America” and an “expression of the will of the people of California” to become an independent country without changing the state’s government or its relationship with the U.S.

In addition, a 20-member commission would be established to study whether California could govern itself and its viability as a nation.

Secession from the U.S. would require a constitutional amendment, which would need approval from two-thirds of states.

Despite the proposal, the California constitution notes that the state “is an inseparable part of the United States of America.”

“The U.S. Constitution includes neither a mechanism for a state to secede from the United States nor a provision for a single state to be an autonomous nation within the United States,” the California Legislative Analyst’s Office states.

Josh Allen’s MVP-caliber season ended in heartbreak over the weekend after the Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game. But for fiancée Hailee Steinfeld, the veteran quarterback is still her MVP.

In an exclusive interview with E! News published Tuesday, the actress and singer opened up about their relationship, Allen’s football career and the team’s success this season.

“To say the least, I am so proud of that man,” Steinfeld said. “Everything he’s done and everything that the team has done together.”

Allen is among the frontrunners for the NFL MVP award. His 76 career wins, 262 total touchdowns and 30,595 total yards are the most by an NFL player in his first seven seasons, and he topped 40 total touchdowns for the fifth straight season.

“He is the hardest-working person I know,” Steinfeld continued.

Allen led the Bills to the postseason for the sixth straight season. But the Chiefs, chasing a historic three-peat, were too much for Buffalo to overcome, and Allen dropped to 0-4 against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs.

“Yeah, it sucks. You keep going back and thinking about what you could have done differently, plays even throughout the game,” Allen said after the 32-29 loss Sunday. “Any time you lose, you’re going to have those thoughts in your head and just understanding that you’re not promised opportunities like that all the time.”

Allen is still up for the MVP award. The winner will be announced at the NFL Honors ceremony next week ahead of the Super Bowl.
