MAGA loyalists take aim at GOP senator as key Trump defense post sparks controversy: ‘Why the opposition?’

A key Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee is reportedly on the fence about one of President Donald Trump’s Defense nominees over his stance on a nuclear Iran – a potential roadblock to his confirmation given the GOP’s slim Senate majority.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., is reportedly hesitant about the nomination of former Defense official Elbridge Colby to serve as the under secretary of defense for policy, a key Defense post that remains unmanned amid the ongoing confirmation process.

“Senator Cotton is focused on ensuring all defense nominees commit to supporting President Trump’s position that Iran must not have a nuclear weapon, and Cotton will be addressing this in meetings and hearings with the nominees,” a source familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital.

Colby has previously suggested that the U.S. living with a nuclear Iran is more plausible than countering the country’s nuclear assets, a position that reportedly is causing concern from the key Senator whose support could determine his confirmation.

“Why the opposition to Bridge? What does he think Bridge will do?” Elon Musk wrote in a post on X of reports that Cotton was not on board with the nomination.

“The effort to undermine President Trump continues in the US Senate @SenTomCotton is working behind the scenes to stop Trump’s pick, Elbridge Colby, from getting confirmed at DOD,” Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, said on X. “Colby is one of the most important pieces to stop the Bush/Cheney cabal at DOD. Why is Tom Cotton doing this?”

“Is Tom Cotton’s resistance to Bridge Colby more about IRI than anything else? As in maybe Cotton’s blocking Colby ain’t that principled. . .” American Majority CEO Ned Ryun posted on X.

“Cotton has other problems that he doesn’t want exposed. He’ll support Colby,” former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn claimed on X.

Vice President JD Vance expressed support for the Trump nominee, writing that “Bridge has consistently been correct about the big foreign policy debates of the last 20 years.”

“He was critical of the Iraq War, which made him unemployable in the 2000s era conservative movement. He built a relationship with CNAS when it was one of the few institutions that would even hire a foreign policy realist,” Vance said.

“.@ElbridgeColby is a fighter who will execute President Trump’s mandate to end decades of DC foreign policy failures and stop forever wars abroad—The reason the establishment fears him is because he’s 100% aligned with Trump’s agenda,” Sen. Colby’s Senate confirmation hearing remains unscheduled as the chamber works to confirm more of Trump’s cabinet nominees.

  • MAGA candidate wins GOP primary in Florida race to replace Matt Gaetz in Congress

MAGA candidate wins GOP primary in Florida race to replace Matt Gaetz in Congress

The candidate endorsed by President Trump on Tuesday won the Republican primary in a special congressional election to replace former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz in Florida’s 1st Congressional District.

The Associated Press projects that Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis will win the GOP nomination in the district, which is located in the northwest corner of the state in the Panhandle region.

He will face gun safety advocate Gay Valimont, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Patronis, who was also endorsed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, topped nine other Republican candidates in the crowded primary field. He will be considered the clear favorite in the April 1 general election to fill the congressional seat in the heavily red district.

“A fourth generation Floridian from the beautiful Panhandle, and owner of an iconic seafood restaurant, Jimmy has been a wonderful friend to me, and to MAGA,” Trump wrote in a social media post earlier this month.

Gaetz resigned from Congress abruptly late last year after Trump tapped him to be his attorney general, though Gaetz eventually withdrew himself from consideration amid growing Republican opposition.

The congressman’s resignation also came as the House Ethics Committee had been preparing its report on allegations against Gaetz that included illicit drug use and sex with a minor, all of which he has denied.

Among those who fell short to Patronis in the GOP primary was a former Navy veteran who challenged Gaetz last year with the backing of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Gaetz had triggered the congressional maneuver in 2023 that eventually led to McCarthy’s ouster from power after less than a year as House speaker.

Patronis – whose family runs a popular restaurant in Panama City – which is outside the district -was criticized for not living in the district.

He twice won statewide elections as chief financial officer and, until Gaetz quit Congress, was seen as a potential candidate in Florida’s 2026 race to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Republican and Democratic primaries were also being held Tuesday in Florida’s 6th Congressional District, in the special election to fill the seat left vacant after GOP Rep. Michael Waltz stepped down to serve as national security adviser in the second Trump administration. The general election in the red district is also scheduled for April 1.

With a fragile, razor-thin majority in the House, the likely reinforcements from Florida’s 1st and 6th Congressional Distircts will be welcome news to Republican leadership in the chamber as it tries to pass Trump’s agenda.

Trump congratulates Chiefs, ‘MAGA’ fan base while making bold Bills prediction

President Donald Trump was among those celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs after their third straight AFC Championship win to reach the Super Bowl with the chance at league history on the line.

Trump posted to Truth Social after the 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, and he made sure to shout out the part of the Chiefs’ fan base that voted for him in this year’s presidential election.

“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Trump wrote. “What a GREAT team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers.”

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the team need one more win to become the first team in the NFL to ever win three straight Super Bowls.

But Trump didn’t leave out the Bills despite another loss for Josh Allen & Co. at the hands of the Chiefs. While Allen may be 0-4 against Mahomes in his postseason career, Trump made a bold prediction about the team moving forward.

“Likewise, congratulations to the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season. They will do a lot of winning long into the future!!!”

While Trump dished out praise for both teams in the AFC, he was silent on the Philadelphia Eagles winning the NFC Championship over the Washington Commanders on Sunday as Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts both scored three touchdowns on the ground in a 55-23 rout.

There is history between Trump and both the Chiefs and Eagles, the latter of which saw a White House invitation rescinded.

In 2018, while Trump was serving his first term, he withdrew his invitation to the Eagles to visit the White House after their Super Bowl win over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

It came after several Eagles players said they wouldn’t go to meet Trump after his comments about those who knelt in protest of police brutality and racial injustice during the national anthem that season.

Trump said in a statement that the Eagles were “unable” to attend the ceremony at the White House because of his belief that NFL players should “proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

BRITTANY MAHOMES SHARES CHRISTIAN MESSAGE AFTER TRUMP BACKLASH AND TAYLOR SWIFT FRIENDSHIP QUESTIONS

Meanwhile, the Chiefs won their first Super Bowl of their dynasty in the 2020 season, just a few weeks after the presidency went to Joe Biden. But during this past election year, players like Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, a pro-life advocate, publicly supported Trump.

And though he wouldn’t endorse a candidate publicly, Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, and his mother, Randi, both made public moves that showed their support of Trump.

Brittany’s Instagram account was spotted liking Trump’s 2024 policy platform in August, resulting in backlash on social media. But she took it to another level when she later liked a comment under one of her Instagram posts that read, “TRUMP-VANCE 2024.”

Meanwhile, Randi was spotted at a Chiefs game wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, clearly showing who she was supporting in the election.

The Chiefs and Eagles kick off in New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome on Feb. 9 to determine who will be crowned this year’s NFL champion.
