Hall of Famer Steve Young weighs in on Aaron Rodgers’ NFL future as possible divorce with Jets looms

Aaron Rodgers’ time in a New York Jets uniform could soon come to an end. It is “unlikely” the Jets will “move forward” with the four-time NFL MVP quarterback, FOX Sports reported earlier this week.

The report on Rodgers’ future surfaced shortly after the Jets brought in Aaron Glenn as the team’s next head coach and named Darren Mougey the general manager. Rodgers and the Jets divorcing could be a sign that Gang Green wants to go into the offseason with a clean slate.

If Rodgers’ stint in New York does officially reach an endpoint around the start of the NFL’s new league year in March, he will leave the Jets with 18 starts over two seasons. Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury in the first week of the 2023 campaign.

While an unceremonious exit from the Jets could spark questions about whether the 41-year-old Rodgers will decide to step away from the NFL, Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Young believes the quarterback still has the tools to be an effective player.

“In today’s game, Tom Brady said it best. The flats are always open, the middle of the field is unpatrolled, and no one can hit me,” said Young during a recent appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.”

“And by the way I make $50 million dollars. So I think that Aaron because he’s healthy a full year, look the mobility is down and everything else, but if he can get to a place that understands the position, has innovative mindsets of more and more places like that, that you can get to where you can take advantage of the new football that’s being played. If he can get to one of those spots I’m sure he’d still love to go play some great football, especially with a more innovative mind.”

Rodgers threw 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions over 17 games in 2024. While Rodgers is much closer to the end of his career than he is to the beginning, he did have moments this past season where he played well.

However, it remains unlikely that Rodgers will regain his MVP-caliber form. But with several NFL teams being in desperate need of competent quarterback play next season, Rodgers could draw interest if he does end up on the free agent market.

The Jets parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh in October and went on to finish with a 5-12 record.

Deadline looms for release of JFK assassination files

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the attorney general are expected to release their proposed plan for the declassification of the JFK files on Friday.

Both offices, in coordination with the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and the Counsel to the President, have until the end of the day Friday to release their proposed plan.

Last month, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to declassify files on the assassinations of former President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Everything will be revealed,” Trump told reporters as he signed the order in the Oval Office.

The executive order came after Trump had previously promised on the campaign trail to declassify the documents upon entering his second term, saying at the time, “When I return to the White House, I will declassify and unseal all JFK assassination-related documents. It’s been 60 years, time for the American people to know the truth.”

Trump had initially promised to release the last batch of documents during his first term, but such efforts ultimately dissipated. Trump then blocked the release of hundreds of records on the assassination following several CIA and FBI appeals.

“I have no choice,” Trump said in a memo, where he cited “potentially irreversible harm” to national security if he allowed the records to be released. Trump said at the time the potential harm to U.S. national security, law enforcement or foreign affairs is “of such gravity that it outweighs the public interest in immediate disclosure.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was sworn in on Wednesday, is in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the day to survey Super Bowl LIX security. Bondi’s first full day on the job is part of an effort to highlight the administration’s broader commitment to crack down on violent crime and acts of terrorism.

Bondi has yet to formally address Trump’s order to declassify the JFK assassination files and her approach to the task.

Fox News Digital learned shortly after she was sworn in that the new AG would be issuing several major directives on her first day, including orders to combat the weaponization of the legal system and making prosecutors seek the death penalty when appropriate.

Chiefs’ Andy Reid admits feeling ‘old’ as Super Bowl matchup against son of former Eagles star looms

Andy Reid spent nearly a decade and a half coaching the Philadelphia Eagles, leading the franchise to a Super Bowl appearance along the way.

Reid departed the City of Brotherly Love after the 2012 season and became head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Reid has hoisted the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy three times as Chiefs coach, and this Sunday he will again face his former team.

While there are countless story lines leading up to the Super Bowl, Reid was asked to share his thoughts about preparing his team to compete against the son of a former Eagles star linebacker Reid spent several years coaching during his tenure in Philadelphia.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the son of Eagles Hall of Famer Jeremiah Trotter Sr., was a fifth-round draft selection last year. The younger Trotter recorded 25 tackles during his rookie season with the Eagles.

Reid, 66, concluded that matchup meant he was “old.”

The elder Trotter spent eight seasons with the Eagles in three separate stints. Reid was on the Philadelphia sideline for seven of those years.

“Jeremiah, his father, was one of my favorite players,” Reid said. “This kid, his son, has done a tremendous job. Did it at Clemson and now transferred it to the Eagles. I think it’s a neat deal. He’s wearing the same number, all that. That’s a great deal. Great deal for the family.”

Another intriguing matchup that has received considerable attention leading up to Sunday’s big game is the two opposing star quarterbacks. Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes is already a three-time Super Bowl winner, while the younger Jalen Hurts is making his second career appearance in the league’s championship game.

The Eagles selected Hurts in the second round in 2020. He helped the Eagles advance to the 2023 Super Bowl but lost 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in that game. This year’s game in New Orleans will be a rematch of that Super Bowl from two years ago.

A victory over the Eagles would secure an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title for the Chiefs. If Philly is victorious, it would be the franchise’s second Super Bowl title.

The Super Bowl kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET Feb. 9 from the Caesars Superdome on FOX.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce sends three-word message of support to Eagles fans as Super Bowl matchup looms

Jason Kelce stepped away from football after the 2023 season. The former offensive lineman spent his entire standout career with the Philadelphia Eagles — the reigning NFC champions.

The Eagles will soon travel to New Orleans to continue preparations for Super Bowl LIX. The Kansas City Chiefs will meet the Eagles at the Caesars Superdome for the big game, creating a rematch of Super Bowl LVII. Jason and his younger brother Travis Kelce competed against each other in that game, with the Chiefs ultimately defeating the Eagles.

Travis was recently named to his tenth consecutive Pro Bowl, while Jason has settled into broadcasting during his first year of NFL retirement. The former Eagles center Kelce signed with ESPN last year and made routine appearances on “Monday Night Countdown” throughout the 2024 football season.

In November, Jason announced he would host “They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce” starting in early Jan. 2025 and continuing through the NFL postseason. Travis made an appearance on the latest edition of the show and was asked to share a message for Philadelphia fans.

The Chiefs tight end appeared to shrug his shoulders before responding with “Go Birds, baby!” as the live studio audience inside Philadelphia’s concert hall Union Transfer applauded.

Jason quickly pointed to what he perceived as a disingenuous show of support from his brother. “You don’t mean that,” he said while laughing.

Travis then spoke about his appreciation for his brother before doubling down on his Eagles support.

“What do you mean? I’m a Jason Kelce fanatic, dude,” Travis continued. “I love that guy. I still got all the gang green from you guys’ Super Bowl and your run in Philly. I still got some Philly pride man. I’m wishing the best for those guys, but, you know, uhhh, go birds.”

“There’s absolutely no chance you mean that,” Jason concluded.

After starting the 2023 campaign with a 10-1 record, the Eagles went on to win just one of their final six games. Philadelphia subsequently suffered a 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round.

Kelce announced his retirement shortly after the Eagles’ playoff exit. He ended his career with seven Pro Bowls and six First-team All-Pro selections.

The end of the 2024 regular season and the ongoing postseason have been more enjoyable for Philly. The Eagles were presented with the George Halas Trophy last Sunday after the team won the conference title and clinched a spot in the Super Bowl.
