Angel Reese gets advice from Lisa Leslie on how her game can improve

Lisa Leslie, a three-time WNBA MVP, directed some blunt advice at Angel Reese during a recent sitdown with the Chicago Sky forward.

Leslie joined Reese for the latest edition of the “Unapologetically Angel” podcast. At one point during the conversation, the WNBA legend answered a question about which part of the 2024 All-Star’s game she could improve heading into season two.

“The biggest advice I have for you is going to be how you shoot your layups, period. We’re going to fix that. That’s fixable for you,” Leslie responded.

The two-time WNBA champion then pointed out some of Reese’s strengths when she is on the hardwood.

“I think your shot from the outside is improving. I love that your ball handling is good, your defense is improving. I love the fact that you were like putting so much pressure on them defensively. And just the idea that you want to get better. I love that.”

Leslie continued to praise Reese’s willingness to put in the work, which she believes will ultimately allow the Sky star to reach her full potential.

“Hearing you, and like… yes ‘I want to learn. I want to work hard. I want to be better,’ my heart melted.” Leslie added. “The fact that you already have that attitude, you’re going to get better. And I can help you get better. I’m positive.”

Reese delivered a memorable rookie WNBA season, as she broke numerous league records. The former LSU standout finished 15 consecutive games with a double-double, marking the longest streak of games that a player accomplished the feat in league history.

Reese’s scoring efficiency in the paint did come under some scrutiny, with the Sky forward making 42.2% of her layup attempts last season.

Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 2024. Her overall field goal percentage stood at 39.1% last season.

The Sky finished the 2024 campaign with a 13-27 record and failed to qualify for the WNBA postseason. The franchise parted ways with Teresa Weatherspoon, and later named Tyler Marsh as the team’s next head coach.

In a clip posted to her podcast’s Instagram, Reese said Weatherspoon’s dismissal left her “heartbroken.”

  • ‘Mona Lisa’ will get its own room under a major renovation of the Louvre

‘Mona Lisa’ will get its own room under a major renovation of the Louvre

French President Emmanuel Macron announced Tuesday that the “Mona Lisa” will get its own dedicated room inside the Louvre museum under a major renovation and expansion of the Paris landmark that will take up to a decade.

The renovation project, branded “Louvre New Renaissance,” will include a wide new entrance near the Seine River, to be opened by 2031, Macron said in a speech from the room where Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece is displayed.

PURPORTED EARLIER VERSION OF DA VINCI’S ‘MONA LISA’ WOWS ART LOVERS AFTER GOING ON DISPLAY

Macron didn’t disclose an exact amount budgeted for the project to modernize the world’s most visited museum, which is plagued with overcrowding and outdated facilities. But it’s estimated to reach up to 800 million euros ($834 million).

The Louvre’s last overhaul dates back to the 1980s, when the iconic glass pyramid was unveiled.

A look at what’s at stake:

Move designed to make Louvre experience easier

Macron said the expansion of the museum will allow the “Mona Lisa” to be moved to a new, dedicated room accessible to visitors through a special ticket. That will make the visit simpler for those who want to see the painting and ease the experience of other visitors in the rest of the museum, he said.

“Conditions of display, explanation and presentation will be up to what the ‘Mona Lisa’ deserves,” he said.

Leonardo’s masterpiece is now being shown behind protective glass in the museum’s largest room, overcrowded with long, noisy lines of visitors eager to take a selfie with the groundbreaking portrait of the woman with the enigmatic smile. That makes some other paintings in the room by Venetian painters like Titian and Veronese go unnoticed by many.

The museum’s big renovation in the 1980s was designed to receive 4 million annual visitors.

Last year, the Louvre received 8.7 million visitors, more than 75% being foreigners mostly from the United States, China and neighboring countries Italy, the U.K., Germany and Spain.

    Costly and complex overhaul

Macron said that a new entrance for the Louvre will be created near the Seine by 2031, to be financed by ticket sales, patronage and licensing money from the museum’s Abu Dhabi branch.

A design competition will be staged in the coming months, he said. In addition, some new underground rooms will be created to expand the museum.

A French top official said that the cost of the renovation is estimated at 700 to 800 million euros ($730 to 834 million) over the next decade, including half for the creation of the new entrance. The official couldn’t be named in line with the French presidency’s customary practices.

Macron said that ticket prices would be raised for foreign visitors from outside the European Union, up from 22 euros ($23) now. He promised the museum would be safer and more comfortable for both the public and employees.

Comparing the project to Notre Dame’s recent reopening, Macron said that “the redesigned Louvre, restored and expanded, will become the epicenter of art history for our country and beyond.”

Half the Louvre’s budget is being financed by the French government, including the wages of the 2,200 employees.

The other half is provided by private funds including ticket sales, earnings from restaurants, shops and bookings for special events, as well as patrons and other partners.

    Water leaks and other damage

The renovation announcement came after Louvre Director Laurence des Cars expressed her concerns in a note to Culture Minister Rachida Dati earlier this month saying that the museum is threatened by “obsolescence.”

According to the document first released by French newspaper Le Parisien, she warned about the gradual degradation of the building because of water leaks, temperature variations and other issues “endangering the preservation of artworks.”

The pyramid that serves at the museum’s entrance, unveiled in 1989 as part of late President François Mitterrand’s project, now appears outdated. The place isn’t properly insulated from the cold and the heat, and it tends to amplify noise, making the space uncomfortable for both the public and the staff, des Cars said.

In addition, the museum suffers from a lack of food options and restroom facilities, she said.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said on Thursday she can’t support Pete Hegseth to be President Donald Trump’s secretary of Defense.

  • New Republican leader Lisa McClain talks messaging ‘playbook’ in the Trump era

New Republican leader Lisa McClain talks messaging ‘playbook’ in the Trump era

EXCLUSIVE: Leading the House Republican communications policy under a president like Donald Trump, who is known to frequently air his thoughts on the public stage, is likely not an easy task.

But Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., the new House GOP Conference Chair, argues that the outspoken commander-in-chief makes her job easier – in part, because of his simple but ubiquitous tagline.

“If you take a look at the last election cycle, Republicans had the winning message, and it was simple, it was consistent, and it was easily repeatable, right?” McClain said. “So, ‘Make America Great.’ Make America ‘blank’ again. Make America strong again. Make America energy independent. It was simple and it was concise. And the message worked so well that it didn’t matter if you were in a [moderate or heavily Republican] district.”

“Everyone’s not trying to reinvent the wheel. They have a playbook that they can all sing from, so to speak.”

REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS MEET WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP, VP VANCE TO ADVANCE AGENDA

Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., is the new No. 4 House Republican leader (Tom Williams)

McClain, now the No. 4 House GOP leader, has been in senior leadership for just over three weeks. But she’s largely shunned the solo stage that comes with the role in favor of shining that spotlight on lesser-known members of the GOP.

She has co-authored op-eds with rank-and-file lawmakers and promoted interview opportunities on issues that affect their home states. McClain told Fox News Digital that she saw her job as elevating the existing qualities that helped members of the conference win their elections.

“People want to help. They want to be engaged. They want to feel part of something. And I think my job as conference chair, I can help give them a platform,” she said.

Like Trump, she made her living in business before coming into politics. Before being elected to Congress in the 2020 races, McClain ran a 700-person financial planning company in her home state of Michigan.

Asked why she decided to run, McClain joked, “I blame it on my daughter.”

“So we have Sunday dinner, and that’s kind of my time to hold court,” she recalled. “I was on my soapbox about something. And my daughter Ryan looked at me…’You can either be part of the problem or part of the solution.’ She was being sassy. ‘Why don’t you run for Congress and do something about it?’ So that kind of planted the seed.”

But since being elected, McClain said she’s carried at least one lesson over from the business world – relationships.

“We are stronger together as a team. And the more people you have on the team, the better you are,” she said.

Just this week, she and a team of House GOP leaders sat down with Trump to discuss his agenda.

Those relationships extend past her fellow lawmakers, however.

Her predecessor, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y. – whom McClain heaped praise on during her interview – was known to operate with a tight circle and largely kept the media at arm’s length.

But McClain is known for her open demeanor with journalists, both through informal chats on Capitol Hill and occasionally sparring with members of the media on more difficult issues.

“You want to tell a story, I also want to tell a story. So if we work together, as long as we’re fair or respectful to each other, I think we can work together to help shape that narrative on what the story is we’re trying to tell,” McClain said. “Because at the end of the day, if I don’t share my narrative with you on what’s the story we’re trying to tell, you’re going to come up with a story on your own. So why wouldn’t we work together to share that story? It just makes sense.”
