Simone Biles, Jonathan Owens experience close encounter with lion on honeymoon

Simone Biles and her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, experienced quite the scare on their honeymoon.

Biles and Owens officially tied the knot in April 2023, but a busy schedule — which included the 2024 NFL season and the Summer Olympics — seemingly delayed their honeymoon until this year.

“Not gonna lie I almost s— myself,” Biles wrote in a video posted to Instagram which showed a lion walking right by their guided tour.”

The trip comes after a busy year for the couple.

Biles won four medals, including three gold, in Paris to bring her total Olympic medal count to 11 — the most by any American gymnast.

Her amazing performance in Paris followed her well-chronicled troubles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She wrapped up the season as the runner-up for AP Female Athlete of the Year honors, just behind WNBA star Caitlin Clark.

Owens signed a two-year contract with the Bears in March after spending one season with the Packers. He was excused from the start of training camp this summer to support his wife as she went on to make history at the Olympics, and would go on to score the Bears first touchdown of the season in the team’s season opener.

Owens and Biles first met in 2020 and were engaged just two years later. The NFL player found himself at the center of online backlash in 2023 when he admitted that he initially didn’t know who she was when they first matched on a celebrity dating app.

  • Ex-Dolphins lineman Jonathan Martin walks back bullying allegations against teammate that caused NFL scandal

Ex-Dolphins lineman Jonathan Martin walks back bullying allegations against teammate that caused NFL scandal

Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin is walking back his bullying accusations against his former teammate, Richie Incognito, which caused quite the scandal in 2013.

“I never believed for a second I was being bullied,” Martin told ESPN. “It’s a story that I’ve been trying to fix for 10 years.”

Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins in 2013 after reports that he bullied Martin to the point where the latter stormed out of the team’s cafeteria as a result of what was said.

Martin, a second-round pick by the Dolphins in 2012, was in his second NFL season when the bullying controversy surrounded him and Incognito.

The Dolphins later announced that Incognito was suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

The league eventually got involved, retaining lawyer Ted Wells to investigate the incident, which found that Incognito, Mike Pouncey and John Jerry had all been engaging in bullying toward Martin.

The NFL’s report on the matter also said that Martin checked himself into a hospital and his mother needed to be flown across the country to be with him during that time.

But now, Martin is blaming his parents for the situation becoming as widely known as it is today.

“I had a situation with my teammates that I wasn’t super happy about,” Martin told ESPN. “But my mother had her own read on the situation.

“I hadn’t even told my coaches, hadn’t told anyone. And suddenly it’s on ESPN, right?” he continued. “I didn’t believe any of the stances I was taking, right, where I’m this victim. I wasn’t a victim, right? And again, it’s been a point of consternation.

“My mother maybe in her mind – I can’t read her mind – she thought she was doing the right thing.”

Incognito, who missed the second half of the 2013 season and the entire 2014 campaign due to the scandal, responded after seeing Martin’s new words on the matter.

“He couldn’t cut it in the NFL so he quit and his mom blamed me,” he said, bluntly on X. “Legacy media pushed this narrative long and far. Too bad it was all a lie! They lied to protect his money. He quit…the team had every right to claw back that money. His mom started the bullying narrative with @espn @AdamSchefter so that @MiamiDolphins wouldn’t go after his signing bonus!”

While Martin’s mother, Jane, did not speak with ESPN for the interview, his father, Gus, did say his piece.

“His mom and I did strongly intervene,” he said. “To make sure he was protected.”

Gus Martin also played an alleged voice from Incognito, which was left for his son at the time. The man on the phone who is allegedly Incognito threatens Jonathan Martin, using graphic language including racial slurs.

“Hey, what’s up, you half-n—– piece of s—,” Incognito allegedly says. “I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. I’ll s— in your f—ing mouth. I’m going to slap your f—ing mouth, I’m going to slap your real mother across the face. F— you, you’re still a rookie. I’ll kill you.”

Martin would eventually get traded to the San Francisco 49ers during the offseason after the bullying allegations were brought to light. However, he only played 15 games there before retiring after going to Carolina Panthers training camp the year after.

Meanwhile, Incognito signed with the Buffalo Bills after his suspension was lifted by the league. He spent three seasons in upstate New York before joining the then-Oakland Raiders.

During an appearance on “HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” in 2019, Incognito denied ever bullying his former teammate, blaming Martin’s “mental health issues and his demons” for being out of the league.

Incognito added, “I fit the bill. Hey, racist, homophobic, whatnot. What I’m saying was, we were close, personal friends. It wasn’t factored into, ‘Hey, this is guy talk, these are two alpha males talking to each other.’ Was some bad s–t said? Absolutely. But was this a case of bullying? Absolutely not.”

  • Colts’ Jonathan Taylor confident in Anthony Richardson after subpar 1st full season

Colts’ Jonathan Taylor confident in Anthony Richardson after subpar 1st full season

Anthony Richardson’s rookie year was cut short after just four games due to an injury, so the 2024 campaign marked his first full season.

Safe to say, it didn’t go as many Indianapolis Colts fans had hoped.

Richardson suffered yet another injury in just the fourth game of the season, and early on, he struggled. In that span, he completed just over half of his passes, threw six interceptions, and fumbled the ball three times (thankfully, all were recovered).

He returned in Week 7, but it got even worse. In Weeks 7 and 8, he went 20-for-56 through the air and lost two fumbles. So, the Colts went with Joe Flacco for a brief period.

His final five games were much of the same – less than half his pass attempts were caught, and he couldn’t hold onto the ball. For one thing, he did rush for 358 yards in that span. But, he missed the final two games with yet another injury.

Add it all up, and Richardson’s first full season ended up with completing 47.7% of his passes while throwing just eight touchdowns against 12 turnovers in 11 games. He did run for 499 yards and six touchdowns, but he put the ball on the ground nine times.

However, his star running back in Jonathan Taylor is pleading for everyone to give him some time.

“People don’t realize quarterbacks coming out now are like 24 – he’s only 22. So, he hasn’t played like much ball yet, only 15 games in the NFL,” Taylor said to Fox News Digital in a recent interview (Richardson turns 23 in May).

Taylor is in New Orleans for Super Bowl week, perhaps a place he’d rather be to contend for the Lombardi Trophy. But during his trip, he’s getting out to Dairy Queen for his typical pregame meal.

“I’m going there right after this. I’m getting some of that sauced and tossed honey barbecue chicken strip basket,” Taylor said.

Oh, and he won’t forget about his “go-to” Oreo Blizzard either.

In speaking about his quarterback, though, Taylor also pointed to what people don’t see.

“He’s on the field getting extra reps. He’s really in the playbook all day, every day so he has that work ethic.”

Predators’ Jonathan Marchessault, Andrew Brunette disavow anthem booing: ‘Really don’t like it’

Nashville Predators star Jonathan Marchessault and head coach Andrew Brunette disavowed the booing of the American and Canadian national anthems, which has become a trend over the last few days.

Ottawa Senators fans booed “The Star-Spangled Banner” when it was sung over the weekend as Canadians responded to President Donald Trump’s tariffs plan on Canada. In return, Predators fans booed “O, Canada” on Monday night when the Senators were in town.

“I don’t think it should be said for any anthems,” Marchessault, a Quebec native, told reporters. “Honestly, the anthem is not made for political views. It’s made for respecting the veterans in both countries and I think that’s something that everybody … I think at the end of the day we’re respecting the veterans and people that live in our countries. It’s bigger than just trying to give a shout to the other country.”

Brunette, who is from Ontario, said he believed everyone’s political views should be put aside for the anthem.

“I don’t like it, I don’t think we should boo either anthem either way,” he said, via The Tennessean. “The NHL has been around 100 years and the U.S. and Canada both share this game. I don’t really think there’s a place to be booing the anthem.

“You can have your political views and your ideas, but I just think both countries have been amicable for so long. They’ve been partners in the great game of hockey. I just don’t think it’s the right thing to do, I really don’t like it.”

The anthem booing also took place when the Toronto Raptors hosted the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
