Alex Bregman finally finds new home in Red Sox after strenuous free agency: reports

After roughly five months of uncertainty, Alex Bregman reportedly has found his next destination.

The two-time All-Star third baseman signed a three-year deal with the Boston Red Sox, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Bregman just won his first Gold Glove Award with the Houston Astros in 2024, and since 2021, he is slashing .262/.350/.444.

It was reported that Bregman was offered a six-year, $156 million deal to return to the Astros, but he declined. His name was circulated around several rumors, most recently with the Detroit Tigers to rejoin his former manager, AJ Hinch, but the Scott Boras issues continued this side of Juan Soto.

Bregman was the second overall pick of the 2015 MLB Draft to the Astros, where he won two World Series, including the 2017 title, which has been tainted by fans due to their sign-stealing scandal.

However, Bregman was still a part of a successful organization that made it to seven consecutive American League Championship Series, one shy of tying the all-time record by the 1990s Atlanta Braves.

Bregman’s deal is worth $120 million, making his $40 million annual average value tied for the fourth-largest in baseball. Cora now reunites with Alex Cora, who was the Astros bench coach for the 2017 run. Bregman is also able to opt out after each season if he chooses.

Bregman is coming off a season in which he hit 26 homers, his most since belting 41 in 2019, and drove in 75 runs. However, he posted a career-low .768 OPS, largely in part due to an inability to draw walks like he used to; his 44 walks were his lowest in a full season.

While Bregman may not be his MVP-candidate self anymore (he led the majors with an 8.9 WAR in 2019), his bat-to-ball skills are still elite, and as the Gold Glove Award states, so is his defense.

The Sox finished 81-81 this past season and added Garrett Crochet to the top of their rotation, while also adding Walker Buehler. In the bullpen, they plugged in Aroldis Chapman and Justin Wilson. Now, by adding Bregman, they should be on everyone’s radar.

Bengals react after Chilean men indicted, take selfie with stolen items in robbery of Joe Burrow’s home

The three Chilean men facing charges on suspicion of breaking into Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow’s home posed for photos with some of the items that were eventually stolen from the property, a recently filed federal criminal complaint showed.

A jeweled necklace reading “JB9” with a Nike swoosh and a diamond “9” necklace were the luxury possessions that could be seen in the selfie, per the complaint. Burrow, a two-time Pro Bowler, wore the No. 9 jersey when he played at LSU and still wears the number for the Bengals.

BENGALS’ JOE BURROW SAYS HE PUT UP MVP-CALIBER SEASON DESPITE LINGERING WRIST INJURY

The Bengals released a statement on Wednesday thanking authorities for their efforts.

“The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and their partner agencies at the local, state and federal level did a wonderful job investigating the crime and bringing bad actors to justice. The Cincinnati Bengals would like to thank them for their efforts and extend our sincere appreciation for their good work. We recognize there was a tremendous amount of complex investigative work that led to these indictments, and the Sheriff’s Department was exemplary in this work,” the Bengals said.

“The Bengals have worked with the Sheriff’s Department for decades on many matters and we know them to be a real source of strength and pride for the community. The Bengals appreciate their good work and will continue to fully support their efforts as the criminal process moves forward.”

The men, who police say were in the country illegally, had tools for break-ins at the time of their arrest, along with a Bengals hat and Louisiana State University shirt believed to be stolen from Burrow’s home.

The elements of the robbery were consistent with other burglaries recently carried out in varying parts of the U.S. by South American theft groups, the complaint stated. The document added that the groups have typically been comprised of South Americans who enter the country illegally or remain in the U.S. after their visa expires. The groups have targeted jewelry and designer accessories, per the complaint.

Burrow was on the football field for a game against the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas, when the home was burglarized.

Olivia Ponton, a model and social media influencer who was identified as Burrow’s employee in an incident report, was at the home at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported during the break-in.

Burrow broke his silence a few days after the break-in, saying it left him feeling “violated.”

“So, obviously, everybody has heard what has happened. I feel like my privacy has been violated in more ways than one. And way more is already out there than I would want out there and that I care to share, so that’s all I got to say about that,” Burrow told reporters in December.

Parents of American murdered by Hamas ask Trump to get 76 hostages left home

The parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American kidnapped from Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and murdered by Hamas terrorists after surviving 11 months in captivity, made a video plea to President Donald Trump after the latest hostage release.

In a video message shared on Instagram, Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg-Polin reacted to the release of civilians Eli Sharabi, 52; Or Levy, 34, and Ohad Ben Ami, 56. They were among the 250 people who were taken during the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The three gaunt, frail-looking Israeli hostages were forced to speak during a Hamas handover ceremony, igniting outrage, as Israel in turn released nearly 200 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday.

“We received the wonderful news that Eli, Or and Ohad we released today,” Rachel Goldberg-Polin said in a video shared to the “Bring.Hersh.Home” account, which has garnered more than 173,000 followers. “We also felt this real connection to Or and his family because Or and Hersh were both kidnapped together from the same bomb shelter on the same pickup truck on Oct. 7. And in fact, Or’s brother, Mikha’el, contacted us right after Shabbat today to tell us that one of Or’s first questions he asked his brother this morning was ‘how is Hersh doing?’ Because he had assumed that Hersh had been released long ago, and his brother had to explain to him that Hersh had been murdered five months ago.”

Jon Polin then addressed Trump, as well as U.S. special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, imploring them to secure the release of the remaining 76 hostages this week.

“Seeing the condition of these three hostages, hearing that Or had no idea what happened to Hersh, that Eli was unaware of the fate of his wife and his daughters, is just a gut punch to all of us that we need to do more,” Jon Polin said. “And I’m turning directly to President Trump and to Mr. Witkoff, you have shown that you are the only ones who are able to get this situation moving, moving forward, and my plea to you, our plea to you right now is – now that you’ve done the hard part in getting movement, getting a deal started, let’s not think about Phase 1 and Phase 2 and Phase 3 in many months. Let’s think bigger and faster. All 76 hostages out this week. End of war. Who benefits from dragging it out for so long? Not the people of this region. Let’s get it done right now. Thank you.”

“Godspeed,” Rachel Goldberg-Polin added.

Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages were murdered by Hamas terrorists last August shortly before Israeli troops reached the tunnel where they were being held in southern Gaza. Israeli troops recovered the six bodies from the tunnel, and Israeli forensic experts said they had been shot at close range after surviving nearly a year in captivity.

Goldberg-Polin, a native of Berkeley, California, was attending a music festival when Hamas-led terrorists stormed into southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people and taking 250 others hostage. He lost part of his left arm to a grenade blast during the attack. In April, a Hamas-issued video showed him speaking under duress with his left hand missing, sparking new protests in Israel.

Sharabi returned to Israel after 16 months of captivity. He was told only after his return that his wife and two daughters had been killed in the Oct. 7 attack, according to reports in Israeli media.

Levy “was not sure” what happened to his wife on that day, his mother, Geula, told Israeli media on Saturday, adding that he was not exposed to media reports while in Gaza. Levy was taken from a bomb shelter near the Nova music festival in southern Israel and his wife, Einav, was killed in the attack. His mother said he also asked about Goldberg-Polin, who was abducted from the same bomb shelter. Levy was reunited Saturday with his 3-year-old son.

A third released hostage, Ben Ami, sat huddled with his wife and three daughters in a hospital corridor. He told them: “I have a lot of things to catch up on.” Ben Ami is a resident of Kibbutz Be’eri, one of the hardest hit communities on Oct. 7. “I need to get answers to a lot of things, and I know some of them will be difficult answers,” he said in footage released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s office. “I need to know what happened on that day.”

It was the fifth swap of hostages for prisoners since the current Israel-Hamas ceasefire began on Jan. 19.

Defaced Holocaust mural finds new home in Rome’s Shoah Museum

The Shoah Museum in Rome has acquired a piece by reserved contemporary pop artist aleXsandro Palombo after it was defaced in an apparent act of antisemitism.

The mural, which depicts Liliana Segre and Sami Modiano, the last two Italian survivors of Auschwitz, was defaced multiple times and even erased by vandals.

Segre and Modiano are shown in striped clothing under green bullet-proof vests with yellow Stars of David on them, and there are even representations of the serial numbers tattooed on them by the Nazis. The perpetrators vandalized Segre and Modiano’s faces, as well as the stars on their chests, but left the numbers on their arms untouched.

“They took away my face, my identity, they erased the yellow star, but they left the number tattooed on my arm,” Segre said.

Palombo eventually reproduced the piece, and it is now part of the museum’s permanent collection.

“Art is the highest expression of freedom, and repeatedly attacking a work that portrays two survivors of Auschwitz highlights how the very value of democracy and all our freedoms is in danger,” Palombo said in a statement. “The gesture of courage and resistance of the Shoah Museum of Rome and the Italian Jewish community is a great and precious lesson in civilization for all of us, who responded to the antisemitic violence and hatred of these new forms of social and cultural terrorism with a powerful action of the Risorgimento.”

Palombo has made several pieces honoring the Holocaust, and his other works have not been spared from vandalism.

A piece entitled “Arbeit macht frei,” which shows Hungarian writer and Holocaust survivor Edith Bruck wrapped in an Israeli flag was also defaced, with much of the flag being erased. The title of this mural is the same phrase the Nazis put on the gates of Auschwitz, and it translates to “work makes you free.”

Bruck told Italian newspaper La Stampa that she was saddened but not surprised by the vandalism, saying that “antisemitism is a tsunami.”

The mural of Bruck has also been acquired by the Shoah Museum in Rome.

Another one of Palombo’s pieces that was vandalized was entitled “Halt! Stoj!,” which depicted Segre, Modiano and Burk alongside Pope Francis, who is outfitted with a cross and a sign reading “antisemitism is everywhere.” The four are depicted as Simpsons characters, a common motif for Palombo. While the image of the pope was not damaged, vandals defaced the Stars of David on the three Holocaust survivors.

Palombo, a contemporary pop artist and activist, used pop culture references in his artwork, including celebrities and cartoon characters from the Simpsons and Disney. One of his most iconic works is the “Simpsons deported to Auschwitz,” which shows Marge, Homer, Maggie, Bart and Lisa before and after the concentration camp, referencing the emaciated state of Holocaust survivors liberated from Nazi camps.

Walz’s home state joins California in ignoring Trump’s executive order to ban transgenders from girls sports

The Minnesota State High School League announced Thursday it will continue to allow transgender athletes to compete against girls despite President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban them from doing so.

Trump on Wednesday signed the “No Men in Women’s Sports” executive order, fulfilling one of his major campaign promises of keeping biological men out of girls and women’s sports.

The Minnesota organization said in an email to member schools that participation by, and eligibility of, transgender athletes is controlled by the Minnesota Human Rights Act, which includes protections for LGBTQ+ people, and the Minnesota Constitution.

“The Minnesota State High School League, similar to other youth sports organizations, is subject to state anti-discrimination laws, which prohibit discrimination based on gender identity,” the organization said in a statement. “Therefore, students in Minnesota are allowed to participate consistent with their gender identity.”

Minnesota joins California in ignoring Trump’s executive order. The state is governed by Tim Walz, who was Kamala Harris’ running mate for the 2024 election; the Democrats won the state.

The state was home to a Supreme Court case where a transgender powerlifter was continuing the fight to compete against biological women.

Trump signed the executive order on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which celebrates female athletes in women’s sports and those committed to providing equal access to sports for all females.

Prior to Trump signing the order Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said part of the motivation behind Trump’s executive order would be to create a “pressure campaign” for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and NCAA to follow and prevent transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.

In response to Trump’s order, the NCAA changed its policy, in place since 2010, to disallow transgender athletes from competing against women, requiring them to compete based on their birth gender.

During Trump’s ceremony at the White House to sign the executive order, he announced that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem will prohibit any transgender athletes attempting to compete as women from entering the country for the Olympics in 2028.

The United Nations released study findings saying nearly 900 biological females have fallen short of winning medals because they lost to transgender athletes.

The study, “Violence against women and girls in sports,” said more than 600 athletes did not medal in more than 400 competitions in 29 different sports, totaling over 890 medals, according to information obtained up to March 30.

Mavericks GM getting boost in security for first home game since Luka Dončić trade after death threats: report

The Dallas Mavericks will play their first home game since the organization traded Luka Dončić Saturday, and general manager Nico Harrison will be on alert.

The trade took the entire sports world by surprise, and Mavs fans have made their displeasure known.

The anger is understandable. A 25-year-old global superstar who led the NBA in scoring last year and helped the Mavs to an NBA Finals appearance was traded away.

Protests took place outside American Airlines Center Sunday, with one group of fans even bringing a casket to signify their fandom dying.

But other fans have apparently taken it to an unacceptable level and have made death threats against Harrison.

According to ESPN, that has led to “beefed up” security for Harrison for Saturday’s game.

“This is a heartbroken fan base. There have been some very unfortunate developments regarding that anger. Nico Harrison has been subjected to death threats. There have been racial epithets included in some of those. Certainly, security is going to be beefed up. There will be protests outside the arena,” Tim McMahon said on Friday.

“Nico Harrison is not going to be in his normal seat. There’s no reason to subject him to that kind of security risk. That has been an unfortunate part of this storyline. Obviously, the fans’ anger, they have every right to feel like they got a generational superstar ripped away from them, but, certainly, lines have been crossed.”

Harrison cited defense as a primary reason for the trade, while also noting the risk Dončić, eligible for a $345 million contract, could have left the team next year.

“We really feel like we got ahead of what was going to be a tumultuous summer, him being eligible for the supermax and also a year away from him being able to opt out of any contract,” Harrison said earlier this week. “And so we really felt like we got out in front of that. We know teams, they’ve had it out there, teams have been loading up to try to sign him once that comes available.”

The Lakers acquired Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while the Mavericks got Anthony Davis, Max Christie and Los Angeles’ 2029 first-round pick. To complete the deal, the Utah Jazz acquired Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

In the Mavs’ first game without Dončić, they lost by over 40 points, but neither Kyrie Irving nor Davis played.

Illegal aliens pose with luxury loot swiped from famed QB’s home: police

A recent indictment against three Chilean migrants accused of carrying out a substantial heist at Joe Burrow’s house in December, includes photos of the alleged thieves posing with the Bengals quarterback’s luxury possessions.

Investigators claim about $300,000 worth of items were stolen from Burrow’s Ohio home on Dec. 9, including his “JB9” and “#9” chains — completely studded in diamonds.

Photos show the men wearing Burrow’s luxury watches and glasses, and posing with his stolen Luis Vuitton luggage.

Another photo shows possessions laid out on a table, including a large stack of cash.

Phone analysis shows Cabello allegedly deleted photographs of the stolen items and the back of Burrow’s home, falsifying records in a federal investigation, according to documents.

The men, who police say were in the country illegally, had tools for break-ins at the time of their arrest, along with a Cincinnati Bengals hat and Louisiana State University shirt believed to be stolen from Burrow’s home.

According to charging documents, police responded to a burglary at the quarterback’s home just before 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 9 after Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Olivia Ponton allegedly reported ransacked rooms and a broken window.

At the time of the alleged crime, Burrow was away playing in an NFL game in Dallas, according to documents. It is believed the burglary happened between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

A federal grand jury in Cincinnati charged the three men, believed to be operating as part of a South American Theft Group, with transporting stolen goods interstate and falsifying records in a federal investigation, according to court records.

The FBI said theft groups have been a “major concern” in the Cincinnati area.

“We owe it to the victims, whether they are or are not professional athletes, to follow the evidence into these alleged criminal networks and hold the law-breakers accountable,” U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker wrote in a statement. Today is a day that law enforcement scored and spiked the ball.”

Interstate transportation of stolen property is a federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, according to authorities. Falsification of records in a federal investigation carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

The three men were previously charged locally in relation to the burglary, and the state charges remain pending.

Dozens of illegals arrested in Trump’s home county in Florida

Amid President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested 32 criminal illegal immigrants in the president’s Florida home county.

Crimes committed by those arrested include drug-related offenses, prostitution, robbery, fraud and driving under the influence.

The agency announced on Monday that officials arrested 32 criminal illegal aliens through “targeted immigration enforcement operations” in Palm Beach County on Jan. 27 and 28.

Trump’s permanent residence, Mar-a-Lago, is in Palm Beach County, which is a highly affluent county known for its pristine beaches and golf courses.

According to the Monday announcement, ICE officers and agents based in Miami, in coordination with the U.S. Border Patrol, arrested criminal immigrants from Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Cuba and Nicaragua.

Though the ICE statement did not name any of the detainees, the agency said those arrested included a 30-year-old Venezuelan male convicted of drug possession, robbery and resisting an officer; a 44-year-old Haitian female convicted of battery, drug possession and prostitution; a 24-year-old Cuban male convicted of fraud through illegal use of a credit card and larceny; and a 25-year-old Guatemalan male convicted of cocaine possession and driving under the influence.

Fox News Digital reached out to ICE to obtain information on the detained criminal migrants’ identities but had not heard back at the time of publication.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activities in Palm Beach County, Florida, recently netted 32 illegal aliens from various countries.

The ICE statement said that all those arrested will remain detained pending their removal from the U.S. or hearing before an immigration judge.

This comes as ICE and federal authorities under the new Trump administration have unleashed a string of targeted operations, arresting several thousand illegal immigrants since Trump’s second term began on Jan. 20.

ICE officers have been seen carrying out raids of homes, work sites and other establishments, while deportations have also ramped up, with the Trump administration beginning flights this week, transporting the most violent migrants to Guantánamo Bay.

According to a separate ICE statement, the agency has been conducting “enhanced enforcement operations” in Chicago and New York with routine daily operations taking place throughout the country. The agency said it is currently utilizing a “whole-of-government approach” to target criminal aliens with no legal basis for removal.

In many cases, ICE is partnering with the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Marshals Service to carry out these arrests.

Home affordability crisis taking a toll on America’s young adults

The ability to buy a home has become increasingly difficult in the U.S. in recent years, and some experts are concerned about the long-term impact on young adults, who currently have a higher hill to climb to achieve the American dream than previous generations.

“Rising interest rates, inflated home prices, and stagnant wages are forcing many into a cycle of lifelong renting, where building equity feels increasingly out of reach,” said real estate investor Lori Greymont. “Without strategic shifts, we’re watching an entire generation get priced out of the American dream.”

Dr. David Phelps, a financial expert and founder of the real estate investing community Freedom Founders, told FOX Business that while some people have claimed Gen Z is lazy and entitled when they complain about the cost of housing today, he does not believe that is accurate.

“Gen Z is correct—housing absolutely has become unaffordable for a significant portion of our population, especially that generation,” Phelps said. “Wages haven’t kept up with inflation or the rapidly rising home costs, and that’s before you even factor in rising interest rates and tightening underwriting guidelines.”

Phelps said that based on the average salary in the U.S., a home buyer can afford a home that costs $110,928, which is a fraction of the median home price of $420,400 today.

“In other words, it’s not just a matter of making coffee at home and skipping the avocado toast,” he said. “The math doesn’t work for Gen Z.”

Tom Spaeth, owner of Easal Properties, said that in the last 10 years, the supply of homes that young families on a median income can afford to buy has gone from 50% of the available homes to a mere 15% as home prices and mortgage interest rates have risen.

He said that has happened “All while large institutional investors are purchasing a record number of homes, forcing young families into renting in lower quality neighborhoods, disrupting the education of their children, increasing the families financial stress and creating housing instability.”

Psychotherapist and author Jonathan Alpert says the housing affordability crisis isn’t just about economics—it also takes a serious psychological toll on young adults.

“Many Gen Zers are experiencing anxiety, frustration, and feelings of failure as they struggle to achieve what previous generations saw as a rite of passage,” Alpert said. “Owning a home has long been tied to stability and success, so when it feels out of reach, it can lead to self-doubt and a sense of being ‘stuck’ in life.”

Alpert says he is hopeful that as economic conditions shift, opportunities will open up.

“In the meantime,” he told FOX Business. “Resilience, adaptability, and a change in narrative around this topic is crucial for navigating these challenges.”
