  • Ludvig Aberg drains first career hole-in-one during third round of Genesis Invitational

Ludvig Aberg drains first career hole-in-one during third round of Genesis Invitational

For the second straight week, there is a hole-in-one on the PGA Tour.

Ludvig Aberg made a hole-in-one on hole No. 3 during the third round at the Genesis Invitational after Emiliano Grillo made one at the Phoenix Open’s famed 16th hole last week.

Aberg, 25, was 140 yards out and used a pitching wedge. The hole was slightly down hill from the tee box.

Aberg landed it just a few feet behind the pin, and then it spun back and rattled around the hole before falling in.

It was the first hole-in-one of Aberg’s PGA Tour career.

Aberg and the reaction to his shot was much more subdued than the reaction to Grillo’s at the infamous 16th hole.

Aberg put his hands in the air and fist-pumped before getting congratulations from his caddy.

Aberg came into the day at 4-under par, and as of press time he is seven-under par through eight holes in a tie for second place with Scottie Scheffler and Danny McCarthy.

Davis Thompson is the current leader at 8-under par.

Patrick Rodgers is sitting at 6-under, while Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau, and Samuel Stevens are all at -4 for the tournament.

Aberg has just one career win since turning pro in 2023, winning the RSM Classic in 2023.

Despite only winning once in his young career, Aberg has been knocking on the door for his next win.

The Swedish golfer has made 34 of 39 cuts in his career, with 13 top ten finishes, nine top five finishes, and being the runner-up four times.

Aberg hopes his hole-in-one can propel him to victory at Torrey Pines on Sunday.

  • Emiliano Grillo’s hole-in-one at famed 16th hole at Phoenix Open sparks massive fan celebration

Emiliano Grillo’s hole-in-one at famed 16th hole at Phoenix Open sparks massive fan celebration

The crowd at the 16th hole at the Waste Management Open was itching for a reason to celebrate.

And Emiliano Grillo’s hole-in-one in the second round Friday gave fans at the rowdiest hole in golf a reason to go wild.

Grillo was 1-under par, then pulled off his best Steph Curry impression.

From 155 yards out, Grillo dunked the ball in the hole, as cleanly as Curry would nail a deep 3-pointer. The ball rattled around the hole but never once hit the green.

Once the ball hit the hole, chaos ensued.

Grillo flipped his club into the air and didn’t know what to do, running around the tee box before embracing in a midair leap with fellow golfer Rafael Campos.

In waves, fans started launching beer cans and cups onto the course in celebration.

The security on the 16th hole did it best to try and control things, but it was ignored by the frenzied fans, who continued to launch beverages on the course.

It was the 12th ace in the history of the 16th, and the fans were loving it.

They broke into chants and jumped up and down, reminiscent of a college football stadium before a rivalry game.

Campos set up the hit after Grillo, but it took him a bit to step up to the box because debris had to be cleared from the hole.

Grillo is one over par in the third round through four holes and is 1-under par for the tournament overall.

Rory McIlroy dunks 2nd career hole-in-one at Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Rory McIlroy’s time at the new TGL has paid off early.

Days after competing in his and Tiger Woods’ joint simulator league in Jupiter, Fla., McIlroy drilled an ace at Spyglass Golf Course at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday.

On the par-three 15th, McIlroy took a wedge from 119 yards out and hit a dart right at the hole.

And that’s not hyperbole – McIlroy dunked his golf ball right into the hole without a bounce.

It was the second hole-in-one the four-time major champion has hit on tour. His first came in 2023 at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

McIlroy is ranked third in the world, behind Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.

It’s McIlroy’s first event of the new PGA season. He started his first round on the 10th hole, so the ace got him to three-under through six on the day.

It’s a nice start to the season for McIlroy, who is hoping for better fortunes this year than last. McIlroy owned the U.S. Open lead late last year with a chance to snap his decade-long major drought. However, after he missed six feet worth of two putts on the final three holes, Bryson DeChambeau stole the trophy from underneath him.

That came just months after Cameron Smith squeaked out a win at the Open Championship the year prior over McIlroy in the final round.

McIlroy has been participating in the aforementioned TGL, which started earlier this week. McIlroy, Woods, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are all team captains, with other PGA stars like Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama and Max Homa all playing.
