The two-time All-Star third baseman signed a three-year deal with the Boston Red Sox, ESPN reported Wednesday.
Bregman just won his first Gold Glove Award with the Houston Astros in 2024, and since 2021, he is slashing .262/.350/.444.

It was reported that Bregman was offered a six-year, $156 million deal to return to the Astros, but he declined. His name was circulated around several rumors, most recently with the Detroit Tigers to rejoin his former manager, AJ Hinch, but the Scott Boras issues continued this side of Juan Soto.
Bregman was the second overall pick of the 2015 MLB Draft to the Astros, where he won two World Series, including the 2017 title, which has been tainted by fans due to their sign-stealing scandal.
However, Bregman was still a part of a successful organization that made it to seven consecutive American League Championship Series, one shy of tying the all-time record by the 1990s Atlanta Braves.

Bregman is coming off a season in which he hit 26 homers, his most since belting 41 in 2019, and drove in 75 runs. However, he posted a career-low .768 OPS, largely in part due to an inability to draw walks like he used to; his 44 walks were his lowest in a full season.
While Bregman may not be his MVP-candidate self anymore (he led the majors with an 8.9 WAR in 2019), his bat-to-ball skills are still elite, and as the Gold Glove Award states, so is his defense.

Jose Iglesias
Jose Iglesias, 35, had a career resurgence upon releasing the hit song “OMG” that became the rallying cry for the New York Mets.
After not playing in the 2023 season, Iglesias was scooped by the Mets midseason and was more than what anyone had expected. The sure-handed infielder hit .337 and racked up a career-high 3.1 WAR despite playing just 85 games.
His veteran leadership surely played a role in Queens throughout 2024, and if anyone needs a post-game concert, Iglesias will not cost anything extra.
Jose Quintana
To stick with the Mets, Jose Quintana is coming off a 170-inning season, his most in five years. The lefty posted a 3.75 ERA and could very well be a solid middle-of-the-rotation guy for some teams out there.
The 2025 season would be Quintana’s 14th, and while no team should expect him to make the All-Star Game for the first time since 2016, pitching comes at a premium in the big leagues.
At age 36, the Colombia native could be a cheap short-term option.

Nick Pivetta
One thing that all teams yearn for is a swing-and-miss arm, which is exactly what Nick Pivetta is. He ranked in the 88th percentile in whiff rate last season, while his 2.2 BB/9 was the best mark of his career.

Sure, Pivetta’s career ERA of 4.76 is not ideal, but he has pitched to a 4.09 in the last two years with the Boston Red Sox, and his metrics showed he pitched into some bad luck, as well.
He does get hit hard, but if a team can tap into that strikeout potential, he could be a weapon. Pivetta also turns 32 on Thursday, so it is a young arm to take a chance on.
David Robertson
David Robertson just wrapped up his 16th MLB season but seems to be a bit of an ageless wonder. This past season with the Texas Rangers, he pitched to a 3.00 ERA, which is par for the course throughout his career.
He will turn 40 on April 9, but he knows how to get the job done and has shown no signs of slowing down. His 12.4 K/9 was his best since 2017, as well.
In a game built on bullpens, Robertson’s services would be more than welcome.
Alex Verdugo
Alex Verdugo’s bat had a down season with the New York Yankees in 2024, but in his lone season patrolling the outfield in the Bronx, he looked more than comfortable and was a Gold Glove finalist.

From 2019 to 2022, Verdugo hit .289 with a .778 OPS; his numbers deteriorated in his final year in Boston amid rumors of tension between himself and the team, and perhaps he felt the pressure of playing in a contract year in 2024.
However, Verdugo can play all three outfield positions very well and is another guy who can put the bat on the ball when you need him to.

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Tee Higgins would love to return in free agency, but knows it’s not in his control.
Higgins, 26, and fellow star Ja’Marr Chase have been one of the league’s best wide receiver duos since Chase entered the NFL in 2021.
“I mean, obviously I would love to be there in Cincinnati. I love it here. I love the city. I love the fans. I love the coaching staff, everything in the building. But, hey, it’s not in my control.” Higgins said via FOX19 Cincinncati.

Higgins is one of many key players the Bengals have hitting free agency, and it’s not guaranteed they will make a strong offer to retain their 2020 second-round pick.
Defensive tackle B.J. Hill, cornerback Mike Hilton and tight end Mike Gesicki are among the core group of players hitting free agency.
In addition, Chase and star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson are seeking large contract extensions.

Higgins said he is going to take some time away before deciding on his future.
“I’m just trying to stay away from it right now and clear my head, get away from the game, especially after this, after (the Super Bowl). Clear my head, get away from the game for a few weeks, and then, obviously, in March, that’s when things will start ramping up for me with the free agency coming up,” Higgins said.
Higgins will be highly sought after in free agency. Despite being second fiddle to Chase in Cincinnati, he has proven his ability to be the No. 1 receiver in any team’s offense.
The 6-foot-4-inch receiver has dealt with injury issues, missing five games in each of the last two seasons, but has been highly productive when on the field.
Higgins caught 73 passes for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

Through his five-year career, Higgins has caught 330 passes for 4,595 yards and 34 touchdowns.
The Bengals finished 9-8 this season, just missing the playoffs after suffering one-too-many heartbreaking losses early in the season.
Retaining Higgins, among other key players, would go a long way to ensuring the Bengals remain in playoff contention for years to come.

Vice President JD Vance told world leaders in Paris on Tuesday that the United States intends to remain the dominant force in artificial intelligence (AI) and warned that the European Union’s far tougher regulatory approach to the technology could cripple it.
Vance warned that the technology should be free from ideological bias and that President Donald Trump’s administration would ensure that the most powerful artificial intelligence systems would be built in the United States. He added that Washington wanted to partner with the world in the industry.
“We feel very strongly that AI must remain free from ideological bias and that American AI will not be co-opted into a tool for authoritarian censorship,” said Vance, at his first scheduled trip abroad since taking office.

Vance was speaking at the AI Action Summit where world leaders, top tech executives and policymakers gathered to discuss the technology’s impact on global security, economics and governance. French President Emmanuel Macron, Indian Prime Minister Shri Modi and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing were among those in attendance.
The summit comes weeks after Trump announced a new $500 billion AI infrastructure project called Stargate.
Vance said that Europe’s online privacy rules, known by the acronym GDPR, meant endless legal compliance costs for smaller firms.
European lawmakers last year approved the bloc’s AI Act, the world’s first comprehensive set of rules governing the technology. Tech giants and some capitals are pushing for it to be enforced leniently.

“And of course, we want to ensure that the internet is a safe place, but it is one thing to prevent a predator from preying on a child on the internet, and it is something quite different to prevent a grown man or woman from accessing an opinion that the government thinks is misinformation.
Vance said that hostile foreign adversaries have weaponized AI software to rewrite history, surveil users, censor speech and undermine other nations’ national security. He said the Trump administration will work to safeguard American AI and chip technologies from theft and misuse.

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol says the company’s app needs to be more transparent on pricing.
Starbucks is offering members of its loyalty program free coffee on Monday, the day after the Super Bowl.
Starbucks Rewards members in the U.S. on Monday will be eligible for a free tall hot or iced-brewed coffee at any point throughout the day. They will be limited to one drink.
Customers who are a Starbucks Rewards member will already have a coupon in the Starbucks app that they can apply for when they place a mobile order. Customers can also redeem their Starbucks Monday coupon when ordering in the store or in the drive-thru.
Anyone who joins the program on Monday can also redeem the coupon in-store.
The company advertised the move as a way to help its customers get through the “long Monday” after the Super Bowl. It is also seen as a way to convince more consumers to join its free loyalty program, which has been growing in back-to-back quarters. In its January earnings call, the company announced that Starbucks Rewards membership and spending grew quarter over quarter and year over year. It also saw growth among non-Starbucks Rewards customer traffic quarter over quarter.

The growth in traffic comes as the company rolls out a series of new initiatives under CEO Brian Niccol, who took over in September 2024, to reverse the company’s sales slump and return it to its traditional coffee house roots.

Last month, the company’s condiment bars – which were removed during the COVID-19 pandemic – returned to Starbucks locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, offering customers the ability to add their own creamer, milk and sweeteners.

Baristas also began to put “any” drinks ordered “for here” in coffee mugs, glasses or a customer’s personal cup. The company also brought back free refills of hot brewed or iced coffee, or hot or iced tea for dine-in customers during the same visit.
The coffee giant also stopped charging customers for soy milk, oat milk, almond milk and coconut milk at company-owned and operated locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Niccol, who had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the complexity of the company’s menu, also announced last month that the company would be cutting 30% of its food and beverage offerings. However, the company still plans “to lead this market with breakthrough beverage and food innovation,” and is offering limited-time drinks for Valentine’s Day.

Niccol previously detailed other changes the company is looking to make, such as “fully” introducing digital menu boards at U.S. company-owned stores over the next year-and-a-half to “make our offerings more easily understood and to better show customization add-ons.”
