Investor tells CNBC the time of ‘white flag’ GOP is over as DOGE targets wasteful spending

Investor and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale defended the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) hasty process to overhaul government spending, arguing that a few mistakes are all part of the process.

Lonsdale was interviewed on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Wednesday, where he touted the success of DOGE targeting wasteful or frivolous government spending, arguing that, “in 20 days, we’ve done what we couldn’t do in multiple generations.”

The entrepreneur suggested that previous efforts by lawmakers in the Reagan era to curb spending failed because they were not tech experts like those at DOGE, “and so when they went to the bureaucracy, and they asked questions, there’s so many ways of obscuring and blocking and deterring, and so what Elon did is he got root access, and he went to the tech systems themselves.”

CNBC co-host Rebecca Quick warned that as much as she agrees with cutting waste in theory, cancer payments and legitimate aid to those starving in Africa may be affected amid DOGE’s efforts.

DOGE SLASHES OVER $100M IN DEI FUNDING AT EDUCATION DEPARTMENT: ‘WIN FOR EVERY STUDENT’

“I think the legitimate stuff needs to be turned back on,” Lonsdale agreed, but argued, “I do think Africa can now pay for more of this themselves. South Africa is spending money suing Israel. They’re spending money supporting political parties calling for the death for White people. Maybe they should redirect that money to pay for their own clinics.”

“I just think there’s a question about how careful either Elon or others need to be,” co-host Andrew Sorkin said.

Another co-host of the show, Joe Kernen, replied, “Slash and burn a lot of this stuff.”

Lonsdale argued, however, that changing times call for new tactics.

“Andrew, we’ve been careful for 50 years, right? You have a bunch of white flag Republicans, you have a bunch of people on the left making money off of it, people on the right making money off it too. Everyone wants to be careful and keep it going. You’re not going to get perfect answers in life. I think this is by far the best thing for our civilization is to very boldly confront this,” he said. “And this is more, I guess, of a tech world way than a D.C. way.”

PALANTIR CEO TOUTS ELON MUSK’S DOGE, ABILITY TO HOLD ‘SACRED COW OF THE DEEP STATE’ ACCOUNTABLE

“You’re probably right that there are going to be some things that need to be turned back on. There’s going to be some things that were mislabeled that no one knew what they were. But it’s a mess. And so, it’s a mess. And it’s such a mess that I think being bold is the right answer. I get it’s going to have a few mistakes, but I’d rather have those few mistakes and fix it.

He later appeared to reference Musk’s SpaceX ambitions and quipped, “Being careful and slow isn’t how we get to Mars.”

Lamar performed several of his hits, including “Not Like Us,” “Be Humble” and “DNA,” and he was surrounded by numerous performers.

The person wandered back and forth on the field before members of security arrived. The man was dragged off of the field.

The protest took place with Trump in attendance at the game, marking the first time a sitting president has ever attended the Super Bowl.

HS basketball coach suspended after hanging up Palestinian flag, refusing to shake hands with Jewish coaches

A Colorado high school basketball coach was suspended after he was seen hanging up a Palestinian flag, and after he refused to shake hands with the opposing coach following a game against a Jewish school last week.

Lotus School for Excellence in Aurora and Denver Torah Academy competed against each other on Jan. 22. The Lotus School told Denver’s 9 News that the head coach of the team, identified only as Coach O., brought out a Palestinian flag before the game and hung it up.

The school said after the game the coach reacted to the flag again before going to the handshake line. The coach reportedly failed to shake hands with the coaches of Denver Torah.

“He grabs his flag and puts it around his neck,” Lotus School’s athletic director Deon Jackson told the station. “We saw the intent at that point.”

Emrek Bakyt, the school’s principal, announced the coach was suspended along with another assistant coach, according to the New York Post.

“It has nothing to do with Lotus,” Bakyt said. “It does not represent us, and we are, again, all about respect and diversity. That’s what we celebrate. That’s what we take pride in.”

Brandon Rattiner, a member of the Jewish Community Relations Council, condemned the coach’s actions in an interview with the New York Post.

“I think everybody in the Jewish community is very aware that there’s been a rising tide of antisemitism since Oct. 7,” Rattiner, who spoke on behalf of Denver Torah, told the paper. “And we’ve seen it in schools here and all throughout the country on many different occasions.”

Rattiner added that he thought the “key issue” was when the coach refused to shake the hands of the Jewish coaches.

“The key issue here is when the coach refuses to engage with a Jewish coach and Jewish students simply because they are Jewish or holding them personally accountable for a conflict started, not by Israel by the way, halfway across the world thousands and thousands of miles away,” he said.

‘Red flag’: Education activist rails against ‘dangerous’ Trump nominee for key education post

President Trump is facing pushback from conservatives on social media, as well as an education activist who spoke to Fox News Digital, over his nomination of Dr. Penny Schwinn for deputy secretary at the Department of Education.

Being from Tennessee and being under Schwinn and her Berkeley-educated, radical views, I was actually shocked when I heard that she was being nominated by President Trump because she is the most unlike President Trump, and her policies are not the same,” Laurie Cardoza Moore, member of the Tennessee Textbook and Instructional Materials Quality Commission and founder of Proclaiming Justice To the Nations, told Fox News Digital about Trump’s nomination of Schwinn.

Trump announced his nomination of Schwinn, the former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Education, in a recent Truth Social post, saying that she is “committed to delivering the American Dream to the next Generation by returning Education BACK TO THE STATES.”

Moore told Fox News Digital that Schwinn’s record is not compatible with the agenda Trump is trying to implement and fears that someone recommended Schwinn to Trump without fully explaining her background.

NEW GUIDE HELPS PARENTS PROTECT KIDS AGAINST ‘WOKE’ IDEOLOGIES IN SCHOOLS

Education activist Laurie Cardoza Moore told Fox News Digital she has significant concerns about Trump’s Deputy Education Secretary pick.

“I decided to call on President Trump to rescind his nomination of Penny Schwinn for the deputy secretary of Education appointment because of the policies that she implemented here in the state of Tennessee. You know, I fought for a couple of years for Gov. Lee to call for her resignation because of her, her policies, her values,” Moore said.

“But under her leadership, and this is what’s important for the audience to understand, the children in Tennessee — and this is not just Tennessee because she’s been to Texas and Florida — but our kids were subjected to pornographic and anti-Semitic content in library books, for example, ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’ was one of them. She exposed Tennessee children to dark content like the Wit and Wisdom curriculum, all of which violate child indecency laws and obscenity laws here in the state of Tennessee, which is really troubling to me. She developed a plan to conduct child welfare checks on Tennessee children from birth to 18 to make sure they had their vaccinations.”

Moore expressed concerns that the Berkeley-educated Schwinn hired a math expert in Tennessee, Rachael Maves, who promoted “math equity” in California, along with Schwinn’s support of the Wit and Wisdom program, which critics say is a mask for CRT.

Schwinn was grilled by Tennessee lawmakers in 2020 over her handling of textbooks and contracts but defended her actions taken as education commissioner.

Schwinn was hired by former University of Florida President Ben Sasse, a vocal Trump critic, in 2023 and was one of several employees to face criticism for racking up thousands in travel costs in order to work from home before she was fired in 2024, WUSF reported.

While Trump has garnered widespread praise from conservatives for the majority of his appointments, many conservatives on social media echoed Moore’s concerns about Schwinn.

“President Trump needs the full story on Penny Schwinn’s education history in TN,” conservative commentator Robby Starbuck posted on X. “I really hope he reconsiders her nomination.”

“Penny says her core value is ‘Equity for all… no matter what.’ On her watch TN’s Department of Education even embraced DEI for hiring teachers. She may be a very nice person but naming her Under Secretary of Education at this critical juncture isn’t a good idea when she’s been a believer in this toxic DEI ideology.”

    Penny Schwinn

“Anytime someone claims their desired outcome is equity, understand they’re pushing a communist agenda,” former NCAA swimmer and conservative commentator Riley Gaines posted on X. “NO to Penny Schwinn.”

Country music star John Rich also criticized Schwinn in a post on X, saying that Trump’s decision needs to be “reversed.”

Other conservatives came to Schwinn’s defense, including journalist Chris Rufo, who is considered the most effective critic of Critical Race Theory in many conservative circles.

“President Trump and Secretary McMahon selected Penny for a reason, and we should all work together to make sure she is successful,” Rufo wrote on X.

Schwinn’s appointment also earned praise from GOP Sen. Tim Scott, who posted on X, “The closest thing to magic in America is a quality education. With @realDonaldTrump, @Linda_McMahon, and Penny Schwinn leading our education policy, we will empower parents and prioritize students.”

“God does not give brains out based on zip code or income. Let’s unleash school choice so all students can thrive.”

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders posted on X that McMahon and Schwinn are “both champions on parental empowerment and education freedom through universal school choice we’re implementing in Arkansas.”

Many conservatives have made the case that Trump has a “mandate” from the voters to appoint whoever he sees fit to these high-profile positions, but Moore called Schwinn a “red flag” who will not adhere to Trump’s agenda in the department, specifically his plan to downsize or even eliminate the department.

“Somehow somebody has put the bug in Trump’s ear that he should nominate her,” Moore told Fox News Digital. “But President Trump, you know, I know that he’s very concerned about the future and the state of education, and Penny Schwinn is the last person. She would embarrass him ultimately down the road because she would implement her left policies, her Berkeley-educated policies, and introduce them to the whole country. Very dangerous.”

CEO takes stand against fines for flying massive American flag: It creates ‘noise, unnecessary distractions’

Daily fines won’t stop Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis from flying a huge Old Glory high and proud.

“This isn’t the first time this has happened. We’ve been dealing with this for years. And we have these flags around the country, and they’ve been part of my fabric since I was a little kid,” Lemonis said on “The Bottom Line” Monday.

“We dealt with it in Statesville; Morgan Hill, California; Onalaska, Wisconsin; and now Greenville, North Carolina. And I think this is a perfect example… of local and city and state municipalities putting regulations on businesses that don’t advance the business. They just create more noise and unnecessary distractions.”

If you’ve driven by one of 250 of Camping World’s RV dealerships, the massive and prominent American flags flying on their properties are hard to miss. But when Camping World’s Greenville location put theirs up in October, according to the New York Post, problems began with local zoning officials.

WHY AN ACTIVIST INVESTOR SAYS THE BATTLE AGAINST COSTCO D.E.I. REGIME ISN’T OVER

Camping World’s flag is allegedly 15 times the allowed size and its 120-foot flagpole is too large, as well. Since Friday, the company has racked up penalties amounting to about $1,150.

Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis says he’ll accept daily fines from local Greenville government over the company’s giant American flag on its dealership. (Getty Images)

Lemonis showed no interest in taking down the flag anytime soon.

In response to Fox News Digital, the city of Greenville clarified that an addendum to the sizing regulation was in the works, and will permit Camping World to continue flying its flag.

“I do it because I believe in it. I’m an immigrant in this country. This country gave me an opportunity to earn a living and to employ 13,000 people. I just choose to have a big flag because I’ve had one since I was a little kid,” the CEO explained.

“And I know that’s my way of expressing to the veterans and our customer base how much we believe in it,” he added.

He argued that the city’s crackdown on his patriotism actually hurts business and represents “a small example of why things [get] more expensive.”

“The business of selling champers is to enjoy the outside,” Lemonis pointed out. “When you regulate business to the point where they have to add layers of expense, and they need to still maintain profitability, you have essentially created inflation to regulation.”

  • Symbols of National Pride on Republic Day 2025: Everything to Know About India’s Flag, Anthem and Emblem

Symbols of National Pride on Republic Day 2025: Everything to Know About India’s Flag, Anthem and Emblem

The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. And it was on January 26, 1950, when the Constitution of India came into force. To honour the historic day, the country celebrates Republic Day on January 26. This year marks the 76th Republic Day. India’s national symbols are a source of immense pride and represent the country’s rich cultural heritage and history. Three key symbols—the National Flag, National Anthem, and National Emblem—serve as powerful emblems of national unity, freedom, and sovereignty. As we celebrate Republic Day 2025, here’s a quick guide to these iconic symbols. Republic Day Parade 2025 Date, Time and Live Streaming.

National Flag: The Tricolor of Pride

India’s National Flag, also known as the “Tiranga,” is a horizontal tricolor of deep saffron at the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom, with a 24-spoke Ashoka Chakra in navy blue at the center. The saffron represents courage and sacrifice, white symbolizes truth and peace, and green stands for faith and chivalry. The Ashoka Chakra, derived from the Lion Capital of Ashoka, represents the wheel of law and progress, embodying movement and dynamism. Republic Day 2025 Wishes and Greetings To Celebrate 76th Gantantra Diwas.

    National Anthem: ‘Jana Gana Mana’

“Jana Gana Mana” is India’s National Anthem, composed by Rabindranath Tagore in 1911. This anthem reflects India’s unity in diversity, with lyrics in Bengali that praise the country’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and unity. The music, both solemn and inspiring, was adopted as the National Anthem in 1950. It is played during national events and ceremonies, and its stirring notes evoke patriotism and pride. Gantantra Diwas Date, Theme, History and Significance To Celebrate Republic Day When the Constitution of India Came Into Effect.

National Emblem: The Lion of Ashoka

India’s National Emblem is an adaptation of the Lion Capital of Ashoka, which dates back to the Mauryan Empire. The emblem features four lions facing four directions, symbolizing power, courage, and confidence. Beneath the lions is the Ashoka Chakra, which has 24 spokes, representing the 24 hours of the day and the movement of time. The motto inscribed below, “Satyamev Jayate” (Truth Alone Triumphs), reflects the country’s commitment to truth and justice. The emblem is a symbol of India’s secular, democratic, and sovereign republic.

India’s National Flag, Anthem, and Emblem are more than just symbols; they embody the nation’s values, culture, and history. These symbols remind citizens of their collective responsibility to uphold the principles of freedom, unity, and progress. They are a constant source of pride and an enduring reminder of India’s journey to becoming a sovereign republic.

Delhi, January 21: India is all set to celebrate its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, with grand festivities at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. This year’s celebrations hold special significance as they mark 75 years of the Indian Constitution, with the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas.” The event promises a dazzling display of cultural diversity, military strength, and public participation. Special guests, including sarpanches, artisans, and achievers from across India, will witness the event, as per the PIB press release. Who Unfurls the National Flag on R-Day?

On Republic Day, the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, will unfurl the national flag at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. This tradition symbolises the formal adoption of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950. Unlike Independence Day, where the flag is hoisted, the Republic Day flag is already tied at the top of the pole and unfurled as a bouquet of flowers is released. The act symbolises the country’s republic status, democratic ideals and the President’s role as the ceremonial head of state.

    Who Is the Chief Guest?

The Chief Guest for Republic Day 2025 is President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia. As part of the celebration, Indonesia will also send a 160-member marching contingent and a 190-member band to participate in the parade. This collaboration underscores the strong bilateral ties between India and Indonesia. Republic Day 2025 Fancy Dress Competition Ideas: From Rani Lakshmi Bai To Mahatma Gandhi, Dress Up Your Child in Patriotic Style for Gantantra Diwas (Watch Videos).

    Who Are Special Guests?

Approximately 10,000 special guests from 34 categories have been invited to witness Republic Day 2025. These include sarpanches from top-performing villages, disaster relief workers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, artisans, and Paralympic athletes. The initiative aims to honour their contributions to society, symbolising the spirit of “Jan Bhagidari” (people’s participation). Couples dressed in traditional attire from across India will also attend, showcasing the nation’s cultural diversity.

When Does the Republic Day Parade Start?

The Republic Day Parade begins in the morning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying a wreath at the National War Memorial. The President arrives at Kartavya Path in a ceremonial buggy and takes the salute during the march past. The parade will begin at 10 AM and will feature Armed Forces contingents, tableaux from states and ministries, and cultural performances. It concludes with a spectacular flypast by 47 aircraft, leaving the audience in awe.

As India gears up to celebrate its 76th Republic Day, the occasion will be marked with the participation of distinguished guests and a grand parade showcasing the nation’s diversity and progress. With President Droupadi Murmu unfurling the national flag and the presence of Chief Guest Prabowo Subianto, along with special guests from various sectors, this year’s celebrations promise to be a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
