Eagles win Super Bowl LIX, denying Chiefs history in dominant fashion

The Philadelphia Eagles halted NFL history in its tracks, as they dominated the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, to win Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday night.

The Chiefs were looking to be the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls, but the Eagles, a team who lost to the Chiefs two seasons ago in the “Big Game,” made sure to enact revenge.

Philadelphia now has its second Lombardi Trophy for the organization, having defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2018.

Those that believed the Eagles would win this game didn’t see it coming in this fashion, as they dominated the Chiefs in all three phases from the beginning of this game right until the end.

The Chiefs, one of the best offenses in the NFL this season, and a team that has obvious history in this game over the past two years, had just 34 total yards of offense in the first half as the Eagles defense was thriving against the offensive line.

Mahomes was never comfortable, and it showed as they punted their first three possessions. Meanwhile, despite punting on the first possession, the Eagles were able to get in the end zone the second go-around.

After moving downfield, Jalen Hurts found Jahan Dotson for a 28-yard strike, which was initially believed to be the first touchdown of the game. But, after review, Dotson was spotted down at the one-yard line.

But you know what happens there.

Hurts was tush-pushed into the end zone to put the Eagles up 7-0, and they didn’t look back after that.

It was clear throughout both halves how uncomfortable Mahomes was, as the Eagles’ pass rush continued to get home no matter how many players were sent by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Mahomes was sacked at most five times in a single game in 2024, and the Eagles tallied six on the night, showcasing their domination. But it wasn’t just the defensive line – the secondary was putting in work, too.

It came in the first half when rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, who celebrated his 22nd birthday, picked off Mahomes on a scrambling throw and ran it all the way back for a 38-yard pick-six, which put the Eagles up 17-0.

Mahomes would throw yet another interception on the first play of a drive already deep in their own territory late in the second quarter. Two plays later, Hurts found A.J. Brown, which he did in Super Bowl LVII as well, for a touchdown that almost felt like a dagger at 24-0.

When the second half kicked off, the Chiefs were already in desperation mode, and five plays into the first drive, they were forced to punt. And after the Eagles kicked a field goal, Mahomes saw his fourth-and-short pass knocked down as he turned it back over to the Eagles.

Then, the true dagger was seen in this game, as DeVonta Smith, who grew up an hour from New Orleans in Amite City, Louisiana, broke out a 46-yard touchdown catch on a perfectly thrown ball from Hurts.

At 34-0, the deficit was insurmountable for Mahomes and the Chiefs, even if rookie Xavier Worthy found the end zone on a 24-yard pass from Mahomes.

But ultimately, the Chiefs were never close to a comeback as the Eagles kept making plays, and never let the classic “Mahomes Magic” get put to work.

Eli Manning wins ‘Kick of Destiny’ in rather unconvincing fashion after Peyton’s doink

The third edition of FanDuel’s “Kick of Destiny” was back on Sunday, but it featured new faces in this go-round.

After Rob Gronkowski’s leg determined whether fans would receive a share of millions in bonus bets, this time, it was Peyton and Eli Manning’s turns.

The older brother Peyton was up first for a 25-yard kick, and his first attempt hooked left and never came close.

Eli then just needed to make his kick for the victory, but somehow, he managed to miss worse than his brother, coming up way short.

Peyton had a chance for redemption, this time from just 20 yards out. However, he doinked it off the right upright.

The New York Giants legend lined up for his 20-yarder as chants of “Eli” rang from the crowd, and it was, as Giants announcer Bob Papa would say, true blue.

Eli drilled the kick right down the middle with plenty to spare.

“This feels unbelievable. We earned this moment. I was grinding, been working so hard, and finally, to be a kicker, it just feels right,” Manning said, adding that he pulled a muscle in the competition.

Retailer Fashion Nova suppressed negative online reviews, $2.4M going to customers

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is issuing over 148,000 refunds totaling nearly $2.4 million in a settlement order involving online fast fashion retailer Fashion Nova, which is accused of hiding negative reviews.

To qualify for the refund, consumers who purchased items from Fashion Nova before Nov. 21, 2019, had to make a “valid claim” with the FTC before the August 15, 2023, deadline. Currently, the FTC is no longer accepting claims in the matter.

In the final order, Fashion Nova is explicitly prohibited from hiding reviews or endorsements, and is obligated to present them to customers “regardless of the endorser’s opinion or rating.” Additionally, the retailer was ordered to pay $4.2 million.

While recipients of the FTC payments in this case were spread out across the country, according to the commission’s data, Illinois had the largest number of recipients with more than 25,000. Among the 148,351 recipients, the median refund was $16, according to the FTC.

The FTC made its allegations against Fashion Nova in January 2022, kicking off the first-of-its-kind case.

“From as early as late 2015 through mid-November 2019, Fashion Nova chose to have four- and five-star reviews automatically post to the website, but did not approve or publish hundreds of thousands lower-starred, more negative reviews,” the FTC wrote in its complaint against Fashion Nova.

The FTC claimed to have found “numerous instances” in which Fashion Nova “suppressed product reviews with ratings lower than four stars,” making the representation of their products “false or misleading.”

While this case was the FTC’s first involving negative reviews, it was not the commission’s first case involving Fashion Nova. In April 2020, the fast fashion retailer agreed to pay $9.3 million over allegations “that it didn’t properly notify consumers and give them the chance to cancel their orders when it failed to ship merchandise in a timely manner, and that it illegally used gift cards to compensate consumers for unshipped merchandise instead of providing refunds.”

Additionally, in 2022, the FTC put several companies offering review management on notice, informing them that “avoiding the collection or publication of negative reviews violates the FTC Act.”

Bills’ Mack Hollins drums up fashion statement with ‘Muppets’ gear at AFC Championship

Buffalo Bills eccentric wide receiver Mack Hollins did much more than just walk into a stadium barefoot again on Sunday ahead of the AFC Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hollins showed up at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium wearing a full “Animal” costume, a beloved Muppets character, and it included a big, red head.

Hollins also wore a red-and-yellow crop top shirt and beige cutoffs just like Animal.

It might be Chiefs colors, but Animal is known for being wild and unpredictable when playing for the fictional “Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem” band.

Perhaps that’s the type of mindset Hollins has entering enemy territory, wanting to be an animal to help his Bills reach the Super Bowl.

Hollins has turned heads by showing up in freezing cold temperatures on game day without any shoes or socks.

He’s a big advocate of “grounding,” also known as earthing, where you walk with bare feet to connect to the planet’s natural electrical charge. It provides a therapeutic release for many.

Hollins also has a growing social presence, especially on TikTok, where he shares homecare tips, fun science projects for kids, and more.

But Hollins’ primary focus is making this latest chapter of the Bills-Chiefs rivalry have a happy ending for his squad.

The Chiefs head into their home field advantage as the favorites to reach the Super Bowl for the third straight season, with hopes of becoming the first team in league history to win three straight Vince Lombardi trophies.

Meanwhile, Josh Allen and the Bills want to finally get their shot at the Super Bowl, which would be the first time Buffalo reaches the “Big Game” in 31 years.

Allen is one that sprays the ball around the field, and Khalil Shakir is usually the security blanket for him in the pass game. Hollins, though, provides a big-body presence, especially in the red zone.

In these playoffs, Hollins has one catch on two targets in each game. During the regular season, he had five touchdowns on his 31 receptions for 378 yards.
