City of Philadelphia asks Eagles fans to ‘celebrate responsibly’ at parade after slew of chaotic turns

The Philadelphia Eagles will travel throughout downtown Philly on Friday to celebrate their Super Bowl win with their fans, and over a million people are expected to attend.

However, there appears to be cause for concern from city officials amid the chaos that has occurred in the city throughout the team’s recent victories.

Numerous arrests have been made after both the Super Bowl and NFC championship victories in the Broad Street area.

It Is the second parade for the Birds in the last seven years, and the city issued a message to the Eagles fans earlier this week.

“The parade route has been thoughtfully planned for the safety and security of all attendees. With large crowds expected, we ask everyone to celebrate responsibly and respectfully, making this a moment Philadelphia can be proud of,” a press release read.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker added, “While City offices and buildings will be closed to allow everyone to join the festivities, our focus will remain on keeping all Philadelphians safe.”

A.J. BROWN SAYS WINNING SUPER BOWL ‘WASN’T WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE;’ LOVE FOR GAME ‘COMES WHEN I DOMINATE’

Scenes of chaos erupted in Philadelphia on Sunday night following the Eagles’ Super Bowl win, with fans in team colors seen setting fires, smashing light poles and chanting, “F— the Chiefs!”

Footage captured by FreedomNewsTV purportedly showed a crowd looting a laundry truck and tossing towels into the air. Police then were seen responding to a fire as a pile of the laundry was set ablaze.

In another clip, two individuals were seen toppling a light pole. Once it hit the ground, a crowd rushed around it and started smashing it with their feet. Then members of the crowd picked the pole up and started carrying it through the city’s downtown area.

Videos also showed fans climbing on top of light poles, street signs, bus stops, trucks and trees. In one scene, fans re-enacted the Eagles’ signature “tush push” play.

  • Nike unveils Caitlin Clark billboard in city where Angel Reese’s team is based, inciting mockery from fans

Nike unveils Caitlin Clark billboard in city where Angel Reese’s team is based, inciting mockery from fans

The Caitlin Clark marketing machine has expanded into enemy territory.

Nike unveiled its latest Clark billboard in Chicago this week at 157 W. Chicago Ave. The billboard is 3½ miles away from Wintrust Arena, home to the Chicago Sky and Clark’s rival, Angel Reese.

The placement of the billboard, taking up real estate in Reese’s city, sparked reaction from fans on social media due to the contentious history between the players.

Many of Clark’s fans have used the new billboard as an opportunity to mock Reese.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Clark and Reese have been linked to one another since they first met in the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship. Reese mocked Clark at the end of that game when her LSU Tigers defeated Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes for the title, pointing to her finger in a taunting fashion to remind her who was getting a ring.

This sparked outrage from Clark’s fan base, including Bartstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who called Reese “a piece of s—” in a widely circulated X post after Reese’s gesture in the championship game.

They carried their rivalry into the pros this year. Their four matchups included a series of controversial flagrant fouls against Clark by Reese and other Sky players. Reese smacked Clark in the head with her arm while trying to block a shot in their first WNBA meeting June 1.

One of Reese’s teammates, Diamond DeShields, posted screenshots of hateful comments she got after knocking Clark to the floor in their last meeting of the season Aug. 30.

Clark and Reese have never acknowledged there is a feud between them. They’ve only made respectful comments about one another to the media. But the fans are a different story. The two groups have been notorious for attacking one another and the two players on social media since the 2023 NCAA championship game.

Reese has said Clark’s fans have sent her death threats and made explicit AI images of her and sent them to her family.

“I think it’s really just the fans, her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans, that are really just, they ride for her, and I respect that, respectfully. But sometimes it’s very disrespectful. I think there’s a lot of racism when it comes to it,” Reese said in the first episode of her podcast Sept. 5.

Now, Clark has notched an off-the-court win in the rivalry with her new billboard.

In April 2024, Caitlin Clark signed an eight-year, $28 million endorsement deal with Nike. The deal includes a signature shoe and is the most lucrative shoe deal in women’s basketball history.

The new billboard is a continuation of Nike’s advertising campaign it launched with its first Super Bowl ad in 27 years Sunday.

The one-minute “So Win” spot is an all-female commercial that celebrates nine high-profile women athletes, including Clark, Jordan Chiles, Sha’Carri Richardson, JuJu Watkins and A’ja Wilson.

However, the campaign has also drawn criticism. Critics were quick to call out Nike for its company stance supporting transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.

  • Alabama AD suggests forfeits for home team if their fans storm court or field after big wins

Alabama AD suggests forfeits for home team if their fans storm court or field after big wins

University of Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne floated a possible idea on how to stop students and fans from storming the court after major wins.

Students and fans celebrate big wins, usually in football or basketball, by going onto the court or field to celebrate. At its most extreme, fans tear down goalposts and remove them from the field. There is also an ugly side in which fans and players get into a fracas as well.

Byrne said there is a way to stop it altogether.

“I think from a safety standpoint, keeping people off the fields and courts is a good thing for everybody involved,” he told ESPN. “If we said that the home team, if they storm the field or the court, they’re going to lose the game right then and there, that will stop it.”

Byrne said he is OK with the criticism he is opening himself up to and is willing to listen to better ideas.

Right now, some conferences fine schools over the celebrations. The SEC has a fine structure for court and field storming. A school is fined $100,000 for the first incident, $250,000 for the second and $500,000 for the third.

“I think that’s a tough proposition,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey told ESPN of Byrne’s proposal. “I do think there’s more than Greg in this league who feel that way, though.”

In recent years, the storming has led to incidents with fans.

Former Alabama tight end Jermaine Burton struck a woman who was a fan of Tennessee after the Volunteers upset the Crimson Tide two years ago. Former Duke men’s basketball star Kyle Filipowski also got involved in a fracas with fans after the Blue Devils lost a game to Wake Forest.

The National Football League was hit with an antitrust lawsuit by two fans who claim the league has refused to allow its teams to join Bluesky, according to multiple reports.

Patrick Brown, a Chicago Bears fan, and Collin Vincent, who roots for the Seattle Seahawks, filed a 14-page complaint in New York, alleging the league is restraining engagement between teams and players on the social media site.

“Where the teams meet their fans on social media is between the teams and the fans,” Thomas Burt, the plaintiffs’ attorney, told Front Office Sports. “The NFL does not have the legal right to inject themselves into that decision.”

    Puck first reported the lawsuit.

The fans feel that they should not be limited to platforms, most notably X, in order to engage with their teams.

Fred Kirsch, the vice president of content for Kraft Sports & Entertainment, recently said on the “Patriots Unfiltered” podcast that the New England Patriots were “not allowed to” have a Bluesky account and were actually told by the NFL to delete their page.

The site has amassed over 30 million new users, with most joining amid Elon Musk’s changes to then-Twitter, now known as X, and the billionaire’s involvement with the Trump administration.

The lawsuit says the NFL’s decision to bar teams on Bluesky is a “financial matter,” citing “published reports.” The Sports Business Journal reported last month that the league wants a paid partnership with Bluesky if teams were to join.

The suit also says the NFL announced earlier this month that teams are not allowed on the platform, although no such announcement has been made public or even reported.

The NFL did not immediately respond to an email for a request for comment.

  • NFL fans intervene after restaurant owned by Eagles’ CJ Gardner-Johnson’s mom hit by unwarranted bad reviews

NFL fans intervene after restaurant owned by Eagles’ CJ Gardner-Johnson’s mom hit by unwarranted bad reviews

Del Johnson watched from Florida as confetti fell on her son, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and his teammates after the Philadelphia Eagles routed the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

The Eagles safety’s mother was in Cocoa Village, Florida, not New Orleans for the big game. She was there because she also had something to celebrate — the opening of her second restaurant. However, the celebratory mode was short-lived due to an influx of negative Yelp reviews for Johnson’s other establishment, Kings Grill in Rockledge, Florida.

The spike in poor reviews began shortly after Gardner-Johnson took aim at Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

“Should’ve stayed with that thick s— ,” Gardner-Johnson captioned an Instagram Stories post. The caption seemed to reference Kelce’s former romance with Kayla Nicole, who attended this past Sunday’s big game and celebrated the Eagles victory on the Caesars Superdome turf.

Fans of singer Taylor Swift, who are often referred to as “Swifties,” appeared to be responsible for at least the initial stream of bad Google reviews and negative Yelp reviews for the Kings Grill. Swift has made numerous appearances at Chiefs games over the past two seasons and is currently dating Kelce.

“I have friends who were sending me the screenshots,” Delatron Johnson told TMZ Sports. “They were going, ‘Oh my god, look at this!’ And the first thing everyone said was, ‘the Swifties have attacked.’

“Yes, we’ve seen all the reviews. The joke is really on the Swifties and everyone entertaining the reviews because Kings Grill is closed.”

The unfavorable reviews were later removed and Yelp placed an “unusual activity alert” on the restaurant’s page which “temporarily disabled the posting of content.”

“This business recently received increased public attention, which often means people come to this page to post their views on news. While we don’t take a stand one way or the other when it comes to this incident, we’ve temporarily disabled the posting of content to this page as we work to investigate whether the content you see here reflects actual consumer experiences rather than the recent events,” the post read.

A Yelp spokesperson added that “moderators” would eventually “clean up the page so that it reflects firsthand consumer experiences.”

“For Yelp to remain a useful resource to the community, reviews must be based on a genuine, firsthand experience with the business,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Due to the increased activity we detected on the business page, Yelp’s User Operations team worked quickly to temporarily disable the posting of content to the page and placed an Unusual Activity Alert on Tuesday, February 11. When we see the activity dramatically decrease or stop, our moderators will clean up the page so that it reflects firsthand consumer experiences.”

Gardner-Johnson spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Saints.

A Las Vegas Raiders fan suggested the restaurant had top-notch service. “Service was on point thank you! Food was on point thank you! Ambiance was on point thank you! #RAAAIIIDERSSSS,” the Raiders fan wrote.

Mavericks fans ejected over ‘Fire Nico’ protests amid growing animosity over Luka Doncic trade

It was an exodus of disgruntled Dallas Mavericks fans at American Airlines Center on Monday night after security was seen escorting several people out of the arena after they called for general manager Nico Harrison’s job following the Luka Doncic trade.

Security escorted out several fans that either held up “Fire Nico” signs or shouted out the phrase during the Mavericks’ one-point loss to the Sacramento Kings.
