NFL fan launches petition to boycott league over referee treatment of Chiefs: ‘Important for democracy’

A Virginia man named Mack Donahue has started a petition on Change.org, calling for football fans to boycott the NFL over recent officiating.

Donahue is calling for the league to introduce “rigorous referee training and accountability mechanisms” in response to suspected favoritism by referees toward the Kansas City Chiefs, which has become a hot talking point for fans this season.

“A growing concern over the inconsistent refereeing, particularly evident while observing games involving the Kansas City Chiefs, is tarnishing this beautiful sport’s spirit. The aggravation has reached a point where many of us are contemplating boycotting not just the Super Bowl, but all future games until there is significant change,” Donahue wrote in the petition’s description.

“It’s time we took a stand against unjust refereeing and call on the NFL to introduce rigorous referee training and accountability mechanisms that will guarantee fair game-play for all teams. By signing this petition, you are agreeing to join the boycott and work towards restoring the joy and integrity of NFL games that we so dearly love.”

The petition launched over the weekend had less than 200 signatures at the time of publication. Many of those who have signed have expressed their support for the petition’s cause in the comments.

“This [is an] important cause for democracy,” one signer wrote.

“So many plays were clearly not the right call that even the announcer was confused,” another wrote. This comment may have been referring to a moment in the Chiefs’ 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills when officials ruled that Bills quarterback Josh Allen was stopped short of a first down in the fourth quarter. CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore said during the broadcast he believed Allen got the first down.

That call prompted mass backlash from NFL fans on social media, but it was not the only one.

During the second quarter, officials ruled Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy made a catch despite video replay showing the ball touching the ground.

Referees came under similar scrutiny during the Chiefs’ divisional round playoff win against the Houston Texans one week earlier when a pair of roughing the passer penalties were called against the Texans for hits on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Houston edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. was called for roughing the passer on a third down in the first quarter. Anderson appeared to push Mahomes in the chest after he had thrown the ball incomplete to tight end Travis Kelce. Anderson was flagged.

The second penalty came during a Mahomes scramble in the third quarter. He had two blockers on a run and three defenders bearing down on him. He moved to his right and then back to his left when he decided to slide.

ESPN broadcaster Troy Aikman criticized the penalty and said it’s something the league has to address in the offseason.

Texans players and head coach DeMeco Ryans suggested after the game the referees were against them as well.

Mahomes addressed the issue when asked by reporters last Wednesday if he believed referees were giving him preferential treatment.

“I don’t feel that way,” Mahomes answered. “At the end of the day, the referees are doing their best to call the game as fair and as proper as they possibly can. And all you can do is go out there and play the game that you love as hard as you can and live with the results. … I think that’s what we preach here in Kansas City.

“You get new referees every year, you get new circumstances and you never can really tell because every play’s different. And that’s what makes the NFL so special. I feel like I’ve just continued to play the game, and I just try to win. And whatever happens kind of happens.’”

Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce refused to address the issue when asked by his brother Jason Kelce about the officiating during an episode of their “New Heights” podcast last week.

“I’d like to plead the Fifth,” the tight end said, jokingly referring to his constitutional right to remain silent, when Jason brought up the issue.

Now the Chiefs get a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles. When the two teams last met in the Super Bowl two years ago, that game was determined by a controversial penalty called late in the game against Eagles cornerback James Bradberry, which set up the Chiefs for a 38-35 win.

Eagles fan, 18, on life support after falling from street light pole during celebration: report

A Philadelphia Eagles fan is reportedly fighting for his life after a tragedy while celebrating the Birds’ NFC title.

The fan, just 18 years old, fell from a light pole on the corner of 15th and Market streets in Philly, according to ABC 6 in Philly. City officials have urged fans not to climb the poles during their celebrations.

The man was transported to Jefferson Hospital after suffering brain trauma.

Several other fans were also spotted climbing poles throughout the city.

There were several scary incidents on Sunday night, including a shooting, stabbing and other assaults. Four people were arrested, and 31 citations were handed down. Three other people were injured after a woman crashed her car into a crowd of people, several hours after the game had ended.

The Eagles walloped the Washington Commanders, 55-23, thanks to seven rushing scores on the day. Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts each had a hat trick.

It’s the third time the Eagles will be playing for the Lombardi Trophy since 2018, splitting their first two appearances. Seven years ago, they defeated the New England Patriots, 41-33, in Super Bowl LII thanks to the magic of Nick Foles.

Trump congratulates Chiefs, ‘MAGA’ fan base while making bold Bills prediction

President Donald Trump was among those celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs after their third straight AFC Championship win to reach the Super Bowl with the chance at league history on the line.

Trump posted to Truth Social after the 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, and he made sure to shout out the part of the Chiefs’ fan base that voted for him in this year’s presidential election.

“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Trump wrote. “What a GREAT team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers.”

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the team need one more win to become the first team in the NFL to ever win three straight Super Bowls.

But Trump didn’t leave out the Bills despite another loss for Josh Allen & Co. at the hands of the Chiefs. While Allen may be 0-4 against Mahomes in his postseason career, Trump made a bold prediction about the team moving forward.

“Likewise, congratulations to the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season. They will do a lot of winning long into the future!!!”

While Trump dished out praise for both teams in the AFC, he was silent on the Philadelphia Eagles winning the NFC Championship over the Washington Commanders on Sunday as Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts both scored three touchdowns on the ground in a 55-23 rout.

There is history between Trump and both the Chiefs and Eagles, the latter of which saw a White House invitation rescinded.

In 2018, while Trump was serving his first term, he withdrew his invitation to the Eagles to visit the White House after their Super Bowl win over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

It came after several Eagles players said they wouldn’t go to meet Trump after his comments about those who knelt in protest of police brutality and racial injustice during the national anthem that season.

Trump said in a statement that the Eagles were “unable” to attend the ceremony at the White House because of his belief that NFL players should “proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

BRITTANY MAHOMES SHARES CHRISTIAN MESSAGE AFTER TRUMP BACKLASH AND TAYLOR SWIFT FRIENDSHIP QUESTIONS

Meanwhile, the Chiefs won their first Super Bowl of their dynasty in the 2020 season, just a few weeks after the presidency went to Joe Biden. But during this past election year, players like Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, a pro-life advocate, publicly supported Trump.

And though he wouldn’t endorse a candidate publicly, Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, and his mother, Randi, both made public moves that showed their support of Trump.

Brittany’s Instagram account was spotted liking Trump’s 2024 policy platform in August, resulting in backlash on social media. But she took it to another level when she later liked a comment under one of her Instagram posts that read, “TRUMP-VANCE 2024.”

Philadelphia Eagles fans poured into the streets on Sunday night and celebrated the team’s NFC Championship win and impending Super Bowl appearance.

As soon as the clock hit triple zeroes, the party moved from Lincoln Financial Field to Broad Street in Philadelphia. Views from overhead showed hundreds of fans in the streets, climbing on light poles and shooting off fireworks.

Philadelphia officials were ready regardless of the outcome. Law enforcement issued safety precautions, closed roads and greased light poles in preparation for either a celebration or defeat, according to FOX 29 Philadelphia.

“Don’t climb the poles, greased or not greased, please don’t climb the poles, because you could break the poles and that’s expensive, and it’s money we could spend on other things,” Philadelphia’s managing director Adam Thiel said before the chaos.

Philadelphia sports fan proves acting out can cost you your job

In today’s digital world, it’s increasingly difficult to for employees get away unscathed if they act out in public, even if it’s not considered to be egregious.

Trial attorney and co-managing partner at New-York based Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani LLP, Misty Marris told FOX Business that employee conduct outside the work place can easily follow you right back into the office, and it can even cost someone their job.

It’s nothing new and yet, time and time again, there are occurrences when someone, including sports fans, go too far and subsequently, loses from their job.

5 MOST INFAMOUS FAN MOMENTS IN SPORTS

One of the latest examples happened this week when a Philadelphia Eagles fan at the center of a vile incident during the NFC wild-card game in Philadelphia lost his job at a New Jersey-based DEI-focused consulting firm this week.

The fan, identified as Ryan Caldwell, was seen in the viral video getting into the face of a female Green Bay Packers fan and calling her a “dumb c—” while her fiancé recorded the situation. He also taunted the man with other disgusting gestures.

“Camera phones and social media have really blurred the line between what is work related when it comes to off the clock activities,” Marris said.

However, “whether an employee can get fired for actions taken outside the workplace is pretty fact specific”, according to Marris.

It depends on several factors including the nature of the conduct as well as what state the employee and employer are located in. Additionally, private companies are not bound by first amendment protections, which means an employee’s public statements or actions can be taken into consideration by the employer, according to Marris.

But “something does not need to be egregious to result in a termination, although with everything in the law there are exceptions,” Marris said.

According to Marris, most states follow “at-will” employment, which means an employee can be fired for any reason or no reason, except for protected class status, which is a legal status that protects people from discrimination.

But this doesn’t apply to government employees, union members, or those with employment contracts, where termination rules are based on the terms of their agreements.

Many contracts or union agreements include “for cause” clauses, which define acceptable reasons for termination. Additionally, some companies have policies protecting employees for lawful activities outside the workplace, even for at-will employees.

Some companies might also have policies about lawful activities outside the workplace that could provide protection even when an employee is “at will,” according to Marris.

Manhattan psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert told FOX Business that employees should “develop an ability to keep strong emotions in check and overall good mental health.”

“This starts with understanding the situations that are likely to provoke you. Instead of reacting impulsively, take a moment to pause and consider the potential consequences of your actions,” Alpert said, adding that “techniques such as deep breathing, stepping away from the situation, or redirecting your energy toward something constructive can make a significant difference.”

If people turn to therapy, it’s vital that therapists equip them with practical tools to make meaningful changes, according to Alpert, who is the author of, “Be Fearless: Change Your Life in 28 Days.”

“True progress comes from learning to take responsibility and ownership of your behavior, and implementing strategies that help you maintain composure in challenging situations. By doing so, you not only safeguard your personal and professional reputation, but also demonstrate the kind of composure and maturity that others respect and admire,” he said.

Sports radio legend thinks Melania Trump is ‘stunning’ but no fan of her hat at inauguration

Sports radio legend Mike Francesa suggested on Wednesday that he was enthralled with first lady Melania Trump’s style at the inauguration, but he did not like one aspect of her outfit.

Trump donned a dark navy coat and hat with a white stripe, dark navy heels and black gloves as she and President Donald Trump attended a prayer service at St. John’s Episcopal Church before they arrived for the inauguration festivities.

Francesa was no fan of Melania’s hat.

“Melania is stunning. She has great clothes. She’s a beautiful woman. I did not like her hat,” he said on his podcast. “And I usually like hats, on women, especially on someone as stylish as she is. I did not like her hat at all. That was very odd. I just did not like her hat.”

The president even had a tough time dealing with his wife’s hat. When they entered the Capitol Rotunda, he was seen trying to give her a kiss on the cheek, but it appeared the hat ever-so-slightly blocked his attempt.

Regardless, Trump’s second term as president was off from there.

Earlier Wednesday, the president and first lady celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.

In 2005, well before real-estate developer Trump became the 45th and now the 47th president of the United States, he married his fiancé, model Melania Knauss, at a 350-guest wedding ceremony at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-By-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida. The couple met in 1998 at a party in New York City.

The luxurious wedding was described at the time as fit for royalty — from the spectacular gown Melania Trump wore to the immaculately decorated reception at Trump’s private club.
