Is Diwali 2024 on October 31 or November 1? Heres what the astrologer says

This year, Diwali 2024’s date has led to some confusion, with some people believing Diwali is on October 31, while others argue it will be on November 1. Here’s what the astrologer has to say.

Diwali derives its origin from the phrase ‘Deepavali,’ meaning ‘a row of lights,’ and is celebrated across India and around the globe. Diwali is observed on the ‘Amavasya’ tithi of the lunar month of ‘Kartika.’ This year, the festival date has caused some confusion, as some say Diwali is on October 31, while others suggest it falls on November 1.

    When is Diwali 2024?

In 2024, the date of Diwali has drawn significant interest from people as well as experts and there are multiple information floating everywhere. Let us dive into the same, and know when one should celebrate Diwali in 2024.

    Amavasya Tithi

The most crucial aspect of Diwali’s celebration is the ‘Amavasya’ tithi of the ‘Kartika’ lunar month. In 2024, according to the Mithila Panchang, the Amavasya tithi begins in the afternoon of October 31 and continues through the entire ‘Pradosh Kaal’ and night. It ends in the evening of November 1, 2024, barely overlapping with a small portion of the ‘Pradosh Kaal’ and not extending into the night.

Amavasya Tithi Begins: 3:50 PM of Oct 31, 2024

Amavasya Tithi Ends: 6:15 PM of Nov 1, 2024

    The Road Ahead

As per the most established traditions, panchang and shastras such as Dharm Sindhu, Nirnay Sindhu, Diwali 2024 should be celebrated on Oct 31, 2024 as this is only day when ‘Amavasya’ tithi will be present during complete Pradosh Kaal as well as complete night which is more critical and important!
