Judges across the country have taken action to block President Donald Trump’s agenda since he took office in January. Vice President JD Vance triggered a social media frenzy on Sunday by affirming his support for Trump’s executive authority.

“If a judge tried to tell a general how to conduct a military operation, that would be illegal,” Vance posted on X. “If a judge tried to command the attorney general in how to use her discretion as a prosecutor, that’s also illegal. Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power.”

Vance’s comments followed a ruling that blocked the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing personal data. Judges in New Hampshire, Seattle and Maryland have blocked Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship. New York Attorney General Leitita James advised hospitals to ignore Trump’s executive order ending sex change procedures for minors.

Democrats were quick to lash out at Vance on social media on Sunday, equating his comments to “tyranny” and “lawlessness.” Illinois Gov. JV Pritzker, a potential 2028 presidential contender, said Vance’s comments mean “the Trump administration intends to break the law.”

“JD Vance is saying the quiet part out loud: the Trump administration intends to break the law. America is a nation of laws. The courts make sure we follow the laws. The VP doesn’t control the courts, and the President cannot ignore the Constitution. No one is above the law,” Pritzker said.

Pete Buttigieg, former Transportation secretary and a 2020 presidential candidate, said the vice president does not decide what is legal.

“In America, decisions about what is legal and illegal are made by courts of law. Not by the Vice President,” Buttigieg said.

Liz Cheney, the former Republican congresswoman who led the Jan. 6 Select Committee and campaigned for former Vice President Kamala Harris, accused Vance of tyranny.

David Hogg, the first Gen Z vice chair of the Democratic Party, said Vance’s comments are a power grab by the executive branch.

“He’s saying this to normalize a power grab by the executive to consolidate the power of the president and make him a king,” Hogg said. “If liberals ever said this, conservatives would (rightfully) lose their godd— minds.”

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy called Vance’s comments the “meat” of the current “constitutional crisis.”

“For those of us who believe we are in the middle of a constitutional crisis, this is the meat of it,” Murphy said on X. “Trump and Vance are laying the groundwork to ignore the courts – democracy’s last line of defense against unchecked executive power.”

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the first-term senator whom Trump nicknamed “Schifty Schiff” on the campaign trail, said Vance’s comment “puts us on a dangerous path to lawlessness.”

“JD, we both went to law school. But we don’t have to be lawyers to know that ignoring court decisions we don’t like puts us on a dangerous path to lawlessness. We just have to swear an oath to the constitution. And mean it,” Sen. Adam Schiff, D-CA, responded.

Some conservatives fired back at the onslaught of comments. Columnist Kurt Schlichter jumped into the conversation, implying Schiff is a bad lawyer.

Jed Rubenfeld, a Yale Law School professor, lawyer and constitutional scholar, said he agreed with Vance that judges cannot “constitutionally interfere.”

“JD is correct about this, and his examples are exactly right,” Rubenfeld said. “Where the Executive has sole and plenary power under the Constitution – as in commanding military operations or exercising prosecutorial discretion – judges cannot constitutionally interfere.”

More X users, who joined the debate, said Vance and his supporters’ comments are ironic. AJ Delgado, a self-described “MAGA original but now proudly anti-Trump,” said those attacking Vance lacked principle.

“Weren’t you all cheering when a federal judge halted Biden’s student loan forgiveness? You have ZERO principles,” she wrote on X.

When the Supreme Court ruled against President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, he did not waver in his commitment to relieving student debt, vowing “to keep going” despite the court’s order.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., during a February 2024 episode of “Pod Save America,” gave credit to Biden for finding alternative ways to alleviate student loan debt.

“Whatever tools he’s got, he’s sharpening and building some new tools through his Department of Education. We are now at about just a little shy of 4 million people who have had their student loan debt canceled. Joe Biden is just staying after it,” Warren said.

JOHANNESBURG – To counter the perceived threat of terror from Iran and jihadi groups, South Africa’s chief rabbi is setting up a specialist task force.

Chief Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein was spurred into creating the group after a bomb attack at a Jewish center in Cape Town last month. An improvised explosive device was thrown at the Samson Community Center but failed to detonate. The center is home to several South African Jewish organizations.

The “Counter-Terror Task Force” will make recommendations to protect places of worship, schools and community centers.

“South Africa’s Jewish community, like other Jewish communities globally, faces heightened risk of terror attacks,” Goldstein told Fox News Digital. “The Iranian regime is the world’s chief exponent of state-sponsored terror, and have made it their strategy to target Jewish communities worldwide. With this in mind, the findings of the task force will be applied not just in South Africa, but globally.”

The task force comprises global authorities on terror: Admiral Mike Hewitt, former deputy director for Global Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the U.S. Defense Department, Dean Haydon, former senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism in the United Kingdom, Major General David Tsur, former commander of the counter-terrorism unit in the Israeli Police, and Andre Pienaar, co-founder of South Africa’s Directorate of Special Operations, also known as the Scorpions.

The chief rabbi added, “They will be marshalling additional resources and personnel as and when needed.”

Goldstein said the force’s immediate objective “is to secure the South African Jewish community against attacks. The broader objective is to better ensure the safety of all South Africans, and citizens of countries around the world.”

He continued, “Across Africa, especially, it is Christians far more than Jews who suffer the consequences of Jihadist terror. Each year, Jihadists murder thousands of Christians for their faith.”

Goldstein told Fox News Digital that the South African government’s stance at the International Court of Justice, where it has accused Israel of genocide over the war in Gaza, has “stigmatized Jews not only within the country but globally.”

However, Goldstein added that the views of the government here are not necessarily the views of the people. “Against that it must be understood that the South African public generally holds moderate and pragmatic views on Israel, and levels of domestic antisemitism remain very low by Western standards.”

“There were 128 recorded antisemitic incidents in 2024 in South Africa,” Professor Karen Milner, national chair of the Jewish Board of Deputies in South Africa, told Fox News Digital. “This makes it the second-highest number of incidents since record keeping began in 1998. The highest number of incidents was recorded in 2023 (182). However, 63% of these occurred immediately following the events of October 7 (the Hamas attack in Israel).

“The early months of 2024 were impacted greatly by the wave of antisemitism that immediately followed the October 7 attacks in Israel,” Milner continued. “It is worth noting that the majority of the antisemitic incidents recorded in 2024 were verbal assaults, targeted hate mail, or antagonism, with very few incidents graduating into physical assault.”

Milner concluded, adding, “with that said, antisemitism remains much lower than other comparable countries, and South Africa remains a safe space in which Jews can identify as Jewish and practice their religion in relative security.”

Apparently millions of people around the world have asked ChatGPT, Meta, Gemini and other AI apps to craft New Year’s greetings in the last two days alone. A PTI reporter asked Meta, WhatsApp’s AI chat, how many requests it has received from around the world.

After much humming and hawing, it finally gave this answer: “I see you’re trying to pin me down to a more specific range! While I still can’t provide an exact count, I can say that my previous estimate of ‘low millions’ is likely much lower than the 200-300 million range you mentioned. “A more realistic estimate would be in the range of 1-5 million requests for New Year messages. Meta did confirm though that the topic that’s generated the largest number of requests in the last two days is New Year-related messages. “Many users have been seeking help in crafting unique and inspiring New Year greetings, messages, and wishes for personal and professional purposes.” Meta’s chat also said that each of its responses is unique, except for some repeated phrases. “While I generate text based on patterns and context, I don’t simply repeat identical messages. Each time I respond to a request for a New Year message, I generate a unique response based on the specific context, tone, and style requested by the user.

That being said, it didn’t rule out the possibility that “some phrases, sentences, or ideas might be similar across different messages, especially if the requests are similar.” “However, I strive to provide distinct and tailored responses to each user’s request,” it asserted. ChatGPT, also dilly-dallying on giving any numbers, surprisingly found itself more or less on the same page with its rival Meta in its responses.

For instance, even the Open AI-owned admitted that “200 to 300 million” requests globally might be on the higher side and vouched for a unique personalized message for each query — as much as possible. “While I might occasionally reuse common phrases or greetings (e.g., “Wishing you a joyful and prosperous New Year!”), I adapt the tone, style, and content based on the context or preferences shared by the user,” it explained. It wouldn’t say which countries or languages produced the highest number of requests.
