Charles Barkley has hope for the city of San Francisco after saying during the NBA All-Star Game broadcast that he met with Mayor Daniel Lurie.

The city was the host for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. Barkley had been on the city’s case because of its crime and homeless population. During the broadcast, he expressed some optimism that the city would start cleaning up.

“Shoutout to the people of San Francisco, especially the mayor. I met the mayor a couple times. He’s been tremendous, and hopefully we can do something about the homeless population,” Barkley said during a game between Team Shaquille O’Neal and Team Candace Parker.

Barkley said last month he would skip going to the game because it was in San Francisco.

“He’s going to make the All-Star Team,” Barkley said at the time. “I’m not going. I’m not going to that rat-infested place out in San Francisco.”

Barkley responded to one of his colleagues calling San Francisco “beautiful.”

“San Francisco is not a beautiful city. Rats. Cats. Y’all are not gonna make me like San Francisco. No. Nope, nope, nope”

However, it was far from the first time he had criticized San Francisco. Last year, he ripped the city during the NBA’s alternative broadcast of the All-Star Game, which took place in Indianapolis.

Barkley asked Reggie Miller which he would choose: playing in the cold in Indianapolis – where Miller spent his entire 18-year NBA career – or “being around a bunch of homeless crooks in San Francisco.”

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green called Barkley “crazy” and said that Barkley was not “welcome” in the city. Parker said, “we love San Francisco,” but Barkley offered a retort.

“No we don’t,” he said. “… You can’t even walk around down there.”

He later suggested you could walk around the city with a “bulletproof vest.”

Lurie has vowed to make San Francisco’s streets safe again, build “enough housing to turn around our affordability crisis” and tackle “our drug and behavioral health crisis.”

Chiefs’ Charles Omenihu confident Travis Kelce will be back: ‘We can’t go out like that’

The Kansas City Chiefs are headed towards a transformational offseason where the bulk of the roster is due to enter free agency. But one of the biggest questions facing the team will be what tight end Travis Kelce decides as far as his future is concerned.

Kelce faced retirement speculation in the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX. Had Kansas City gone on to make NFL history with a third straight championship, many believed he would’ve retired.

But the Philadelphia Eagles threw a wrench into those suspected plans.

Kelce said after the 40-22 loss that he’s going to take time to decide what’s next.

“I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year, and right now I am just kicking everything down the road. I am kicking every can I can down the road,” he said on the latest episode of his podcast, “New Heights.”

But one of Kelce’s current teammates believes the veteran tight end will be back next season.

“Big dog, we – the whole organization – we can’t go out like that,” Kansas City defensive end Charles Omenihu said Thursday during an appearance on FOX Sports’ “The Facility.”

“He’s a Hall of Famer from the moment he says, ‘I’m done.’ But I think Trav has a lot left. I think Trav is an extreme competitor. I think he’s somebody that loves the game, and I think in the storied career he’s had, going out like that – in my opinion, wouldn’t be something that he would do.”

Omenihu said that despite the changes that are sure to come in the offseason, Patrick Mahomes is enough of a reason for Kelce to stay.

A team source told The Athletic on Friday that the team has given Kelce a deadline of mid-March to make a decision.

King Charles says ‘our hearts’ with US after ‘devastating loss of life’ in DC plane crash

King Charles III sent condolences Saturday to the U.S. and the families of the Washington, D.C., plane crash victims.

“My family and I have been profoundly shocked and saddened by the dreadful news of the tragic air accident in Washington, D.C., which has led to such a devastating loss of life,” the monarch said in a memo released by Buckingham Palace and shared by multiple news outlets.

“Our hearts, and our special thoughts, are with the people of the United States, and our deepest possible sympathy goes to the families and loved ones of all the victims.”

Charles also said he wanted to pay “particular tribute to the emergency responders who acted so quickly to this horrendous event.”

On Wednesday night, 64 people were on board an American Airlines regional jet inbound to Reagan National Airport from Wichita, Kansas, when the plane collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers, sending both aircraft into the Potomac and leaving no survivors.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Search crews are still recovering bodies, and both aircraft remain in the Potomac River until they can be removed in a salvage operation.

The crash is the first commercial airline accident on U.S. soil since 2009, when 50 people were killed when a Buffalo, New York-bound plane stalled after takeoff.

The king also offered condolences in December for the victims of a Dec. 29 plane crash in South Korea that killed 179 people.

“My wife and I were profoundly saddened to learn of the horrific air accident at Muan, which resulted in such grievous loss of life,” he said at the time. “As the people of the Republic of Korea mourn this disaster, the families and loved ones of all the victims are in our prayers.”

VICTIMS IDENTIFIED IN DC PLANE CRASH INVOLVING AMERICAN AIRLINES JET AND MILITARY HELICOPTER

The royal family is no stranger to tragedy. Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997, and Lord Louis Mountbatten, the late Queen Elizabeth’s second cousin, was killed in an Irish Republican Army terrorist bombing in Ireland in 1979.

The late queen’s uncle, Prince George, the Duke of Kent, also died in a plane crash in 1942 while visiting troops in Iceland. And her first cousin, Prince William, the Duke of Gloucester, died in 1972 while piloting a plane in a race during an air show in Staffordshire, England.

The royal family is often in the air, flying to far-flung locations, and Prince Philip and King Charles both learned to fly in the military. Prince William and Prince Harry were also both helicopter pilots in the military.

Charles had a scary incident while piloting a small, nonmilitary plane in 1994 over Scotland’s Inner Hebrides when he popped a tire and overshot a runway.

A year later, he gave up his pilot’s license.

Charles Barkley places blame on politicians for ‘making us fight with each other’

Divisiveness is alive and well throughout the country, and NBA legend Charles Barkley has placed the blame on politicians for that.

Barkley’s “Inside the NBA” aired on Martin Luther King Day on Monday, when he, Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny “The Jet” Smith were discussing the importance of the day, which also coincided with President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

“I wish that people were smarter, personally,” Barkley began. “I think these politicians – both parties – I think both parties suck. But I think they do a really good job of making us not like each other.”

Barkley, a former CNN host, then gave his answer on what America has “become.”

“Racism exists, always has, always will, unfortunately. It’s a disaster. But what America has become is rich people against poor people. And I wish people would understand that politicians do a good job of making us fight with each other. But it’s really rich people against poor people,” Barkley said. “They try to make it about Black, white, immigration, homosexuality and all these different things, but what it is, is rich people making people not liking each other. And until we address that, we’re never gonna be successful.”

“These politicians have screwed up our world, making you pick a team,” Barkley added. “And that’s unfortunate because I’m not for anybody’s team. I’m for everybody’s team.”

Barkley has said he is “not a fan” of Trump and blamed the Democrats for losing because they were “stupid.”

“We still haven’t solved the immigration problem . . . never addressed inflation. Bringing all these stupid stars out to rally the vote, what was that? I love Beyoncé. That ain’t gonna make me vote a certain type of way . . . you guys lost because y’all stupid . . .” Barkley said on “The Steam Room” podcast with his “NBA on TNT” co-host Ernie Johnson shortly after the election.
