Ford CEO says tariffs bringing ‘a lot of cost and a lot of chaos’

Ford CEO Jim Farley said Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s tariff push has so far brought “a lot of cost and a lot of chaos” to the auto industry despite the president’s aims to help the industry.

“President Trump has talked a lot about making our U.S. auto industry stronger, bringing more production here, more innovation to the U.S., and if this administration can achieve that, it would be one of the most signature accomplishments,” Farley said at an analyst conference in Detroit.

“So far, what we’re seeing is a lot of cost and a lot of chaos,” he added.

Farley also said that if Trump’s 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada are implemented and remain in effect for the long term, it would “blow a hole” in the U.S. auto industry, with rivals from Asia and Europe poised to benefit.

“Let’s be real honest: Long term, a 25% tariff across Mexico and Canada borders would blow a hole in the U.S. industry that we have never seen,” Farley said. “Frankly, it gives free rein to South Korean, Japanese and European companies that are bringing 1.5 million to 2 million vehicles into the U.S. that wouldn’t be subject to those Mexican and Canadian tariffs. It would be one of the biggest windfalls for those companies ever.”

“Meanwhile, we’re USMCA-compliant with almost all of our content, finished vehicles and components going across the borders. To have the kind of a size of tariff would be devastating,” Farley said.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker is less exposed to fallout from tariffs on Canada and Mexico than its crosstown rival General Motors or Stellantis, the parent company of brands such as Jeep and Dodge, analysts said.

That’s because more of Ford’s manufacturing base is located within the U.S. and the vehicles that it does import from outside the country tend to be less profit-rich than the products its rivals import.

Ford is considering areas in which it can build up inventory to prepare for potential 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, executives said Tuesday.

Those tariffs were planned to take effect in early February, but Trump delayed them until at least March after Canada and Mexico announced border security measures.

Trump’s announcement of tariffs on steel and aluminum that are scheduled to take effect next month was discussed with Ford executives noting the company gets 90% of its steel from the U.S. and about 10% from Canada, while the company’s aluminum is also primarily sourced domestically.

Chaos fills Philadelphia as Eagles fans celebrate rout of Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX

With the Philadelphia Eagles blowing out the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, the party was on earlier than expected on Broad Street.

The Birds stopped the Chiefs’ quest for three consecutive titles with their 40-22 victory in the big game, good for their second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.

Well before the game ended, Eagles fans took to the streets of Philadelphia to start the party.

The SEPTA announced that several bus routes were suspended due to “anticipated large crowds and streets closures.”

Well, they anticipated correctly, as fans were quick to get in their cars and celebrate.

Right around when the game ended, fireworks went off.

A DJ tried to set up shop, but he was stopped by police.

Another group of fans were spotted burning a Chiefs jersey and chanting “F— Taylor Swift,” who dates Travis Kelce. Swift was booed by a heavy Eagles fan contingent at the Super Bowl itself.

The celebration for the NFC championship game resulted in mayhem with several arrests, injuries, and even one person, an 18-year-old, dying after falling off a lamp post.

But, that didn’t stop fans from trying it on Sunday night.

The Chiefs, one of the best offenses in the NFL this season, and a team that has obvious history in this game over the past two years, had just 34 total yards of offense in the first half as the Eagles defense was thriving against the offensive line.

Patrick Mahomes was never comfortable, and it showed as they punted their first three possessions. Mahomes threw two picks, one of which was taken to the house by rookie Cooper DeJean. The Eagles defense sacked Mahomes six times.

The Palestinian terrorist group whose attack on Israel launched the war in Gaza is now calling President Donald Trump’s proposal for the U.S. to rebuild the territory a “recipe for creating chaos and tension in the region.”

Trump sent shockwaves throughout the Middle East after announcing last night that the U.S. will “take over the Gaza Strip,” level it and rebuild the area.

“Instead of holding the Zionist occupation accountable for the crime of genocide and displacement, it is being rewarded, not punished,” Hamas told the Associated Press Wednesday.

Hamas’ attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, led to the Israeli military entering the Gaza Strip in their mission to eliminate the Palestinian terrorist group. As a result, the conflict has rendered much of the territory uninhabitable. The U.N. estimated late last year that 1.9 million people – around 90% of Gaza’s population – have been internally displaced.

Hamas added to the AP that Trump’s plan is a “recipe for creating chaos and tension in the region.”

“What President Trump stated about his intention to displace the residents of the Gaza Strip outside it and the United States’ control over the Strip by force is a crime against humanity,” a senior Hamas official also told Fox News on Wednesday.

“We demand that the mediators, especially the United States, oblige the occupation to implement the ceasefire agreement in its three stages without procrastination or manipulation, as we are committed to implementing the agreement as long as the occupation commits to it, and any manipulation in implementing the agreement may cause it to collapse,” the official added.

Trump announced in a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House Tuesday that “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too,”

“We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous, unexplored bombs and other weapons on the site,” he continued.

“Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area,” Trump also said. “Do a real job. Do something different. Just can’t go back. If you go back, it’s going to end up the same way it has for 100 years.”

Fox News’ Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst said the timing of Trump’s comments “raises huge questions about the current ceasefire agreement that is supposed to see the remaining hostages released from Gaza.”

“There are dozens of living hostages inside the Gaza Strip right now being held by Hamas, the group that is currently in control of Gaza. And it would not be surprising if tomorrow, Hamas threatens to step back from the current agreement or puts more pressure at the negotiating table,” Yingst said in a video posted on X last night.

“But the timing of these remarks is very significant remembering that these hostages remain in Hamas captivity and Palestinians being removed from Gaza has been a red line not only for Hamas but for regional countries including Egypt, Jordan and others as it relates to the Palestinian people there,” he added.

  • Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin trades blows with Senators star as game descends into chaos

Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin trades blows with Senators star as game descends into chaos

Scrums after the whistle are common in the NHL. What isn’t common is when you see a superstar goalie join the fracas after the whistle.

During the New York Rangers’ 5-0 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday in New York, star goalie Igor Shesterkin charged right into the middle of the fight and was ready to swing.

The Rangers were up 3-0 with 12:51 left in the third period over the Senators when things got crazy in Madison Square Garden.

Senators captain Brady Tkachuk went after a loose puck around the neck and ran into Rangers’ star goalie Igor Shesterkin, sending the goalie back into his own net.

The five Rangers players on the ice immediately came to their goalie’s defense as they swarmed Tkachuk.

Then the rest of the Senators’ players on the ice came to their captain’s defense, and eventually each Rangers and Senators skater paired off with one another in a shoving match.

While all the chaos unfolded, Shesterkin hunched over in the crease, gathering himself.

Then suddenly, as the chaos started winding down, Shesterkin got up and charged straight into the melee and went after Tkachuk.

Tkachuk saw Shesterkin coming and punched at the goalie’s helmet, knocking Shesterkin down, while Shesterkin threw a blocker toward Tkachuk.

Then Tkachuk, whose right arm was being held by Rangers forward Matt Rempe, jostled with Shesterkin before the referees intervened and removed Shesterkin from the scrum.

As Shesterkin was being pulled away, Rempe, who is known for fighting in his short time in the NHL, went after Tkachuk.

But a referee got between the two, not letting them fight, despite Rempe and Tkachuk throwing punches at each other around the referee.

Once order was restored on the ice, the referees convened and doled out a lot of penalties.

Shesterkin was penalized two minutes for leaving the goalie’s crease. Rempe was given a double-minor penalty for roughing.

Tkachuk was also given a double-minor penalty for roughing, and he was also penalized for goalie interference.

Shane Pinto, the Senators’ center, was also given a minor penalty for roughing Rangers’ defenseman Ryan Lindgren.

The Rangers ended up on the power play after all the penalties, and Artemi Panarin cashed in to make it 4-0.

Alexis Lafrenière, Arthur Kaliyev, Rempe, Panarin and Will Cuylle all scored in the win for the Rangers.

The Rangers are 7-1-3 in their last 11 games and have surged back into the wild-card race after a dreadful stretch in which they won just four of 19 games in December.

The Rangers look to continue their winning ways when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
