Yankees star breaks team’s facial hair policy, prompting social media reaction

When Devin Williams was traded to the New York Yankees, he needed to bust out the razor.

The Yanks, of course, have had a long-withstanding policy since George Steinbrenner owned the team that players must not don facial hair below their lower lip.

So, the lights out closer needed to get rid of his healthy beard, prompting an entirely different look.

However, after just one week in Tampa, Williams appeared to have forgotten to shave Tuesday morning, as he rocked some peach fuzz.

Naturally, it drew the ire of lots of Yankee fans on social media.

Newcomer Paul Goldschmidt also needed to shave, which left him looking like he “added 30 years on his life,” said one more account.

YANKEES’ AARON JUDGE DISAGREES WITH JUAN SOTO’S BELIEF THAT METS GIVE HIM BEST CHANCE TO WIN TITLE

When Williams was asked about being clean-shaven, he replied simply, “It is what it is.” It was the first time he shaved his beard in six years. In fact, he actually arrived to camp unshaven.

Plenty of Yankee stars have rocked mustaches, most notably Don Mattingly and Goose Gossage, but beards have been a topic of conversation, and sometimes controversy. CC Sabathia was rather irked a few years ago when former top prospect Clint Frazier rocked long hair from his head, which also must be maintained. So Sabathia retaliated by rocking a slight beard.

The Hall of Famer has rocked a beard ever since he retired, and even Derek Jeter has some facial hair now. Plenty of Yankees grow facial hair in the offseason and if they join another team.

The policy led to a makeover for Johnny Damon in 2005, and general manager Brian Cashman ruled out closer Brian Wilson over a decade ago because he said Wilson refused to shave his patented beard.

Assistant wrestling coach Matthew Seaman called it a “freak accident,” telling FOX 5 Atlanta that it happened after his opponent performed a legal takedown.

“It’s a heartbreaking situation all in all for both sides, obviously for us, but definitely for this opponent who did absolutely nothing wrong,” he told the station.

“This has been years in the works for him,” Seaman added. “Dom’s come up through the youth program at Jefferson, the middle school program, and the high school program; this is a true family. This was his year, everything was coming together.”

He said after the accident, Dominic had “no feeling from the shoulders down.”

Dominic underwent surgery on Thursday, which his father said went “according to plan.”

In his latest update on social media, Haines said his son has shown positive signs of recovery with some feeling in his lower half. Dominic will undergo another surgery later this week “to fuse the vertebrae from the back since the muscles and ligaments were all completely torn,” his father said in a recent update.

  • Braxton Berrios breaks down how Tua Tagovailoa’s injury derailed Dolphins’ 2024 season

Braxton Berrios breaks down how Tua Tagovailoa’s injury derailed Dolphins’ 2024 season

Injuries can be a make-or-break storyline for just about every team in the NFL, no matter the season.

For the Miami Dolphins last season, it was a big one, which is never a good thing.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered his fourth documented concussion, this time while running for a first down in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.

Another concussion for Tagovailoa meant four missed games, and the Dolphins went 1-3 in that span to quickly fall to 2-4 on the season. Of course, this is a Miami squad that has all the firepower to take the top off defenses and run up the scoreboard.

However, like Braxton Berrios, one of the Dolphins last season who unfortunately could not play all 17 games due to a torn ACL, said, “Injuries happen.”

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

When they happen to a quarterback like Tagovailoa, who is the key to making Mike McDaniel’s fast-paced, timing-oriented offense work, it can derail a season.

    Braxton Berrios reaches

“I think a lot of times, things don’t fall your way some seasons,” Berrios, who was at Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on behalf of IRCode, said. “I think that’s part of the game – it’s an imperfect game played by imperfect people. Injuries happen, a lot of different things happen.”

Tagovailoa was finally able to come back in Week 8, but the Dolphins did not click immediately. They lost his first two starts back before finally dropping the streak on the road against the Los Angeles Rams.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

However, it was a season where the Dolphins did not control their own playoff destiny as they had in the past, and they missed out on a wild card spot.

Tagovailoa took the season especially tough, knowing things might have been different if he had played all 17 games. Again, to Berrios’ point, injuries can come at the worst times.

He used another team as a perfect example.

“You look at Detroit, their defense was decimated,” he said of the Lions. “Those fans could easily say, ‘If we didn’t get so injured, we might be here.’ And they’re probably absolutely right. But the fact of the matter is, it’s part of the game and you just gotta go with it. Injuries can derail things some seasons, and you just got to pick up where you left off, and use it as motivation, as anything else.”

Berrios will be heading to free agency this offseason, but he has no doubt those in the Miami building are the right ones to get back to playoff football in 2025.

“I think the people in the locker room were the right ones,” he said. “Obviously, free agency will happen and who knows there, but I think that staff and that upstairs team is in the absolute right direction. I think they have what it takes, but you just need a few more things to shake your way. We’ll see what happens in free agency.”

No matter where he might end up, Berrios knows exactly how good Tagovailoa can be when he is 100% healthy on the field.

“First and foremost, incredible guy. Very good friend, we’re actually together this weekend hanging out,” he said. “Incredible athlete, and the accuracy and timing are second to none. He makes the offense tick, obviously. All of sudden when he comes back, everything is rolling like it’s supposed to.”

    CHANGING THE GAME WITH IRCODE

Berrios was down in New Orleans on behalf of IRCode, which is changing the way we interact with content, whether it be watching TV or looking at an image.

The football star broke down the “absolutely crazy” experience he had with the technology that he believes will revolutionize the connectivity of brands with consumers.

If I have something I want to promote or I want to push, when they scan me on TV instead of just getting my jersey, [or] fantasy stats, whatever it is, I can plug in my foundation or anything else I want to lead or direct them to. It’s first of its kind and a really cool way for us to interact with fans.”

LeBron James breaks silence on blockbuster trade by refuting report he was ‘frustrated’ with now ex-teammate

While most were sleeping, the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a stunning blockbuster that led to Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis swapping teams.

The deal is perhaps one of the most star-studded ever, as it’s the first time in NBA history two reigning All-NBA players were traded midseason.

There are lots of questions that need to be answered, primarily on the Dallas side of things, as it’s shocking a team would trade a 25-year-old MVP candidate with global starpower fresh off an NBA Finals appearance.

However, one report from CBS Sports said LeBron James “had grown frustrated” with Davis, who is averaging over 25 points and a dozen rebounds while playing elite defense.

James’ Lakers defeated the Knicks shortly before the trade broke, but James has not spoken to reporters about the move yet (Davis was inactive), but James did see the report on X, and broke his silence matter of factly.

“You a [f—ing] lie,” James wrote on X, adding Pinocchio and clown emojis.

James is said to have found out about the trade shortly before the news broke on X while he was out to dinner with his family following L.A.’s victory. It’s being reported that the Mavs only reached out to the Lakers, and would only acquire Davis if it meant moving Dončić. Other than the organizations facilitating the trade, it’s said that no one else knew what was going on behind the scenes.

The Lakers received Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while the Mavericks took on Davis, Max Christie and Los Angeles’ 2029 first-round pick. To settle it all out, the Utah Jazz acquired Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

Former Hamas hostage Naama Levy breaks silence in first message since her release

Naama Levy, one of the four female IDF soldiers released from Hamas captivity on Saturday, is speaking out for the first time.

“After 477 days, I’m finally home,” Levy wrote on Instagram. “I’m safe and protected, surrounded by family and friends, and I am feeling better by the day.”

In the post, Levy expressed her gratitude to “Israeli combat soldiers and the Israeli people,” saying she saw how they were fighting for her release. “Thank you all. I love you,” Levy wrote.

HAMAS RELEASES 4 FEMALE HOSTAGES AS PART OF ISRAEL CEASEFIRE DEAL

On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists kidnapped Levy alongside Liri Albag, Daniella Gilboa, Karina Ariev, and Agam Berger. All the girls, except Berger, were released as part of Israel and Hamas’ ceasefire deal.

Levy revealed that she was alone most of the time for the first 50 days of captivity. However, once she was reunited with the other soldiers taken from her base, they stuck together and “strengthened each other every day until our release and also after it.”

“We are waiting for Agami and the rest of the hostages to return so we can complete the recovery process.”

Berger, who Levy mentioned in the post, is expected to be released on Thursday along with Arbel Yehoud and an unnamed male hostage.

A video of Levy on the day she was kidnapped went viral. She was seen wearing a black shirt and blood-soaked gray sweatpants as an armed man pulls her from a Jeep. Her ankles slashed, Levy was clearly struggling to walk after her apparently violent abduction. Levy became a symbol for the plight of the female hostages and victims of Hamas’ surprise attacks.

In a November 2023 essay for The Free Press, Levy’s mother, Ayelet Levy Shachar, emphasized that though the video of her daughter’s kidnapping was seen around the world, it was “totally unrepresentative of the life she had led until October 7.”

“When she is released, I pray that the image of her abduction, and the experience of what that image represents, isn’t how she comes to see the world,” Shachar wrote at the time.

WHAT WAS IN THE BROWN BAGS HANDED TO ISRAELI HOSTAGES RELEASED BY HAMAS?

Upon Levy, Albag, Gilboa and Ariev’s release, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum Headquarters said that “their return today represents a moment of light in the darkness, a moment of hope and triumph of spirit, while serving as a painful reminder of the urgency to bring back the 90 hostages still in Gaza.”

Boom Supersonic XB-1 breaks sound barrier during test flight

Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 aircraft broke the sound barrier for the first time ever on Tuesday, ushering in a new era of supersonic flight.

The jet exceeded Mach 1 after taking off from the Mojave Air and Space Port in California for its highly anticipated 12th test flight.

That marked the first time the XB-1 demonstrator aircraft, soaring above 34,000 feet, has ever reached the staggering speed.

Boom Supersonic has described the XB-1 as the “first American civil supersonic jet” and the “foundation” for Overture, the jet that it is building for commercial supersonic flight. The company aims to “bring supersonic to everyone.”

XB-1 achieved Mach 0.95 during its most-recent test flight on Jan. 10, according to Boom Supersonic.

The demonstrator aircraft “leverages state-of-the-art technologies to enable efficient supersonic flight including digitally-optimized aerodynamics, carbon fiber composites, advanced supersonic engine intakes, and an augmented reality vision system for takeoff and landing visibility,” the company said on its website.

Ravens’ Mark Andrews breaks silence after critical drop in playoffs led to death threats: ‘Absolutely gutted’

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews has spoken for the first time since his crucial dropped two-point conversion in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs.

Andrews took the high road despite facing ridicule and even death threats after a 27-25 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

“It’s impossible to adequately express how I feel,” Andrews wrote on his Instagram page. “I’m absolutely gutted by what happened on Sunday. I’m devastated for my teammates, my coaches and Ravens fans.

“I pour every ounce of my being into playing at the highest level possible, because I love my team and the game of football like nothing else. That is why it’s taken me until now to collect my thoughts and address this publicly.

“Even though the shock and disappointment are unlike anything I’ve felt before, I refuse to let the situation define me. I promise that this adversity will only make me stronger and fuel us as we move forward.

“I thank everyone who has shown me and our team genuine support these past several days. Despite the negativity, I’ve seen heartfelt love and encouragement, including from those who have generously donated to the Breakthrough T1D organization. Even when the moment seems darkest, perspective can reveal that there’s still a lot of light in this world.

A GoFundMe was launched by the “Bills Mafia,” which has raised over $100,000 for Andrews’ foundation. The Ravens addressed the classy move by the Bills fan base Wednesday.

“Shout out to Bills Mafia for showing support to our guy Mark Andrews and donating to the @BreakthroughT1D organization, which works towards curing and improving the lives of those dealing with Type 1 diabetes,” a Ravens’ X post said.

Andrews’ drop couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Ravens because a successful two-point conversion would’ve tied the game in Orchard Park, New York, at 27 with less than two minutes to play in the fourth quarter.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw the ball perfectly to his usually trusty tight end running toward the right pylon, but Andrews couldn’t secure it in the frigid, snowy conditions. And the reaction said it all from the Ravens on the field and the sideline.

The Bills knew they had escaped potential defeat if the game had gone to overtime. Instead, the Bills are heading to Kansas City this weekend for another chapter of their rivalry with the Chiefs.

Andrews’ teammates were quick to console him on the sideline, where he looked shocked at what had transpired. And though he admitted feeling gutted after the game, Jackson defended Andrews, saying it was a team loss.

Massive brawl breaks out at end of indoor soccer league match

A Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) match between the Milwaukee Wave and Tacoma Stars on Saturday descended into chaos as a huge brawl broke out between players.

The Wave won the match 7-6 as 10 different players scored goals in the wild matchup. Milwaukee improved to 7-1-0 with the victory, and Tacoma fell to 1-5-2, but the big story of the night was the fight that broke out at the end of the match.

Milwaukee’s Mario Alvarez scored his second goal of the season to give the Wave the win. The broadcast followed Tacoma’s Stefan Mijatovic as he shook hands with opposing players after the match. Mijatovic was shoved, which sparked the heated incident. Wave goalkeeper William Banahene appeared to be involved as well as he was being held back.

As the dramatics ensued, Wave forward Qudus Lawal was pushed over onto his own bench. He appeared to address Mijatovic while standing on the bench. Lawal’s teammate Javier Steinwascher tried to get him down and deescalate things, but it took a while for things to calm down.

Mijatovic broke free and appeared to chase a Wave player down into the tunnel. It is unclear what transpired in the tunnel.

The MASL announced suspensions for the players involved in the incident on Tuesday.

Mijatovic was issued a four-game suspension “as a result of his in-game and post-game conduct, and for making unprofessional, offensive and abusive language / comments in-game and post-game.”

Stars players Roman Torres and Luis Birrueta were issued a one-game suspension for the incident.

Wave players Lawal, Derek Huffman and Tenzin Rampa were also suspended for two games.

“All MASL players, staff and league personnel are expected to always demonstrate professionalism and self-discipline, regardless of whether extenuating circumstances exist,” the league said in a statement.
