US hockey star Charlie McAvoy receives praise for big hit on Canada’s Connor McDavid in intense 4 Nations game

The 4 Nations Face-Off matchup between the U.S. and Canada had sports fans everywhere talking about the anthem booing and the three subsequent fights in the first 9 seconds of the game.

Lost in that is what the U.S. had to overcome to win the matchup and advance to the final.

Canada’s Connor McDavid opened the scoring soon after when the electricity was at its highest. Canada hoped to steal one and send their fans home happy, but the U.S. looked to reset the tone immediately after, and the Americans believed Charlie McAvoy did just that.

McAvoy put a big hit on McDavid in the first period, and 19 seconds later, Jake Guentzel got the equalizer past Jordan Binnington. Matthew Tkachuk said it was McAvoy’s hit that revitalized the team.

“That also is a message-sending moment — probably one of the plays of the game,” the Florida Panthers star said. “They just scored a goal, the building was rocking and Charlie comes there and pops McDavid, like one of the hardest hits I’ve seen.”

Tkachuk added that McAvoy’s teammates “followed” McAvoy’s aggressiveness afterward.

“That hit Charlie threw on (McDavid) was kind of a game-changer,” U.S. defenseman Zach Werenski said. “He’s been known to do that. He’s great with his size, he’s really good defensively and I thought that was a perfectly timed hit to get our team going in the right direction.”

Dylan Larkin put the U.S. up 2-1 in the second period, and Guentzel later put one in an empty net and the U.S. won the game.

McDavid still held out hope Canada can bounce back and get to the final for a rematch.

“It was fast, tight-checking, competitive, emotional,” he said, via The Athletic. “It had everything you would want in a hockey game. It sucks it didn’t go our way, but this thing’s far from over.”

  • DOGE scores big court win, allowed access data on 3 federal agencies

DOGE scores big court win, allowed access data on 3 federal agencies

A federal judge in Washington on Friday handed Elon Musk’s government efficiency team a win by declining a request to temporarily block it from accessing sensitive data from at least three federal agencies.

Unions and nonprofits attempted to stop Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing records at the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

U.S. District Judge John Bates wrote in an opinion that the government was likely correct in categorizing DOGE as an agency, thereby allowing it to detail its staff to other government departments.

LAWSUIT TRACKER: NEW RESISTANCE BATTLING TRUMP’S SECOND TERM THROUGH ONSLAUGHT OF LAWSUITS TAKING AIM AT EOS

However, Bates called his finding a “close question,” noting that the government did not want DOGE to be considered an agency for purposes of another federal law, which would subject it to open records requests.

Bates, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, said DOGE was a “Goldilocks entity: not an agency when it is burdensome but an agency when it is convenient.”

“Plaintiffs have not shown a substantial likelihood that [DOGE] is not an agency. If that is so, [DOGE] may detail its employees to other agencies consistent with the Economy Act,” he wrote in part.

The newly minted agency, a key promise of President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, is aggressively slashing government waste when it comes to government spending. It was created via executive order and is a temporary organization within the White House that will spend 18 months carrying out its mission.

‘WASTEFUL AND DANGEROUS’: DOGE’S TOP FIVE MOST SHOCKING REVELATIONS

The Justice Department has argued that the DOGE personnel in question are “detailed” U.S. government employees who have access to the information under provisions of the Economy Act.

Musk hailed the decision by reposting the news on X with the caption: “LFG,” an abbreviation for “Let’s f—ing go.”

Judge Bates suggested earlier Friday that DOGE’s creation and its hierarchy were “odd,” noting that it “was created in a way to get it out of OMB [Office of Management and Budget] and instead answering to the chief of staff of the president.”

DOGE “took great effort to avoid being an agency, but in this case, you’re an agency,” he said of DOGE. “It just seems to strain credulity.”

Attorneys for unions representing Labor Department employees argued during last week’s hearing that, absent court intervention, DOGE could access protected agency information, including the financial and medical records of millions of Americans, as well as employee safety and workplace complaints.

The plaintiffs noted that Labor Department systems contain sensitive information about investigations into Musk-owned companies Tesla and SpaceX, as well as information about trade secrets of competing companies, sparking concerns about Elon Musk’s possible access to the information.

Attorney Mark Samburg argued that allowing DOGE access to this information could have a “chilling effect” on new employees coming forward, due to fear of unlawful disclosure or retaliation.

“The sensitive information of millions of people is currently at imminent risk of unlawful disclosure,” Samburg said.

The plaintiffs had urged Judge Bates to grant a temporary request to block DOGE’s access to the information, which they said would “force the agency to implement a more thoughtful process.”

Separately, on Friday, a federal judge extended a temporary order blocking DOGE from accessing payment systems within the Treasury Department.

That extension came after 19 state attorneys general filed a lawsuit claiming DOGE illegally accessed the Treasury Department’s central payment system at the Trump administration’s behest.

  • Big bank CEOs to meet with lawmakers on solutions to debanking

Big bank CEOs to meet with lawmakers on solutions to debanking

The CEOs of several of America’s largest banks are set to meet Thursday on Capitol Hill with a group of senators in a roundtable on debanking issues in the wake of last week’s hearing on the subject.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, Capital One CEO Richard Fairbank, Wells Fargo CEO Charles Scharf, U.S. Bank CEO Andrew Cecere, PNC CEO Bill Demchak and Truist CEO Bill Rogers are expected to attend the roundtable.

The meeting follows a pair of congressional hearings on debanking last week, which refers to the process by which banks close customers’ accounts, often in response to regulatory compliance concerns.

Businesses and individuals involved with the cryptocurrency and digital assets industry have faced debanking, as have cannabis businesses in states where marijuana is legal. Regulatory guidelines related to reputational risks have also led to debanking incidents involving the firearms industry and other conservative-aligned entities.

President Donald Trump highlighted the issue of politically-motivated debanking in remarks to the World Economic Forum last month, where he publicly accused Bank of America of debanking conservatives while Moynihan was helping moderate a question-and-answer session with the president.

Moynihan spoke to FOX Business on his way into Thursday’s meeting and was asked about Trump’s allegations. He responded, “We bank everyone, thank you.”

Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and other banks have denied cutting off banking access to clients over political concerns.

Dimon called for more clarity about debanking in an appearance last month on the bank’s “Unshakeables” podcast.

“I think we should be allowed to tell you. … When we report stuff, the federal government should probably know about it, and there should be far cleaner lines about what we have to do and what we don’t have to do,” Dimon said. “We’ve been complaining about this for years. We need to fix it.”

Senators from both sides of the aisle acknowledged the need for a solution to debanking issues at last week’s Senate Banking Committee hearing, with Chairman Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., saying they want to work on a bipartisan fix.

Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., previewed today’s meeting on FOX Business Network’s “The Bottom Line” on Wednesday, saying he’s “anxious to hear from all of them.” Cramer noted that he introduced legislation called the Fair Access to Banking Act which would look to address issues related to debanking and has 41 cosponsors in the Senate.

“I don’t want to require them to do certain things, but I want to prohibit them from being able to categorically discriminate against entire industries, whether it’s the oil and gas industry or the private industry, the munitions and firearm industry or the crypto industry or any number of industries that are legal and even constitutionally protected,” Cramer said.

Alabama AD suggests forfeits for home team if their fans storm court or field after big wins

University of Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne floated a possible idea on how to stop students and fans from storming the court after major wins.

Students and fans celebrate big wins, usually in football or basketball, by going onto the court or field to celebrate. At its most extreme, fans tear down goalposts and remove them from the field. There is also an ugly side in which fans and players get into a fracas as well.

Byrne said there is a way to stop it altogether.

“I think from a safety standpoint, keeping people off the fields and courts is a good thing for everybody involved,” he told ESPN. “If we said that the home team, if they storm the field or the court, they’re going to lose the game right then and there, that will stop it.”

Byrne said he is OK with the criticism he is opening himself up to and is willing to listen to better ideas.

Right now, some conferences fine schools over the celebrations. The SEC has a fine structure for court and field storming. A school is fined $100,000 for the first incident, $250,000 for the second and $500,000 for the third.

“I think that’s a tough proposition,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey told ESPN of Byrne’s proposal. “I do think there’s more than Greg in this league who feel that way, though.”

In recent years, the storming has led to incidents with fans.

Former Alabama tight end Jermaine Burton struck a woman who was a fan of Tennessee after the Volunteers upset the Crimson Tide two years ago. Former Duke men’s basketball star Kyle Filipowski also got involved in a fracas with fans after the Blue Devils lost a game to Wake Forest.

Super Bowl LIX is coming up and audiences are gearing up for a great game.

In addition to the showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, audiences are looking forward to seeing the commercials airing during the game, which usually star big-name celebrities.

This year promises the return of some of last year’s most iconic commercials, as well as some unlikely duos coming together.

Here are some of the most highly anticipated ads featuring Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Dunkin’ Donuts featuring Ben and Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong

The DunKings are back, for a new Super Bowl commercial.

A teaser trailer, which aired during the Grammy Awards, showed Ben Affleck starring in yet another commercial for Dunkin’ Donuts, this time recruiting two more famous Bostonians, his brother Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong.

In the teaser trailer, Ben and Casey can be seen wearing bright orange sweaters with Dunkin’ Donuts patches sewn on, with Casey even sporting a bright pink hat and orange sunglasses. The ad starts with Ben pounding on Strong’s dressing room door, with Casey telling him, “Jeremy is a method actor! He will come out when he is ready!”

Further poking fun at Strong’s reputation for having an intense preparation process, Casey explains that Strong is “doing research,” to which Ben replies, “I never did no research on nothin’! Look where I’m at!” After arguing, the two barge into the dressing room, only to find Strong soaking in a Dunkin’ branded barrel full of coffee grounds.

“We’re doing a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial, right?” Strong replies confidently, still smothered in coffee. “I’m just trying to find the character. I think I found a way in. You’re from Boston, I’m from Boston. Dunkin’ is Boston. Boston is Paul Revere. One if by land, two if by sea. Red coats are coming.”

After Strong shares that he would “be ready in like three hours,” Casey quietly whispers to Ben that he “should have paid for Matt,” referring to Matt Damon, who starred alongside Ben in the ad for Dunkin’ Donuts last year.

The words “Suit up, America” and “Feb. 9, 2025” then flash on the screen.

Uber Eats featuring Martha Stewart, Matthew McConaughey and Greta Gerwig

Another set of Super Bowl commercials for Uber Eats have been released ahead of the big game, all starring Matthew McConaughey with different celebrities.

In the first ad, McConaughey and Martha Stewart are in the kitchen together as she is chopping vegetables for a salad. “So, tell me about your salad, Martha,” he says in the clip, to which Stewart responds, “Well, it’s a Caesar salad.”

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY, DENNIS QUAID, WOODY HARRELSON PUSH TO MAKE TEXAS NEW HOLLYWOOD

McConaughey then goes on to point out she’s making the salad, “in a bowl,” eliciting a simple, “Obviously” from Stewart. He then added, “I know what you’re up to. This is a super bowl,” and was met with confusion from Stewart.

Well, a super bowl is at Caesars to help you sell your Caesars during the Super Bowl, is it not?” McConaughey said, making references to the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where the big game will be played.

An annoyed Stewart then responds, “I just want to focus on my salad,” a nod to her iconic 2002 interview on CBS News’ “The Early Show,” where she said the same sentence when the interviewer tried to ask questions about her insider trading scandal during a cooking segment.

McConaughey also stars in a series of other ads for Uber Eats in various forms. In one ad, he can be heard leaving multiple voicemails pitching films to director Greta Gerwig.

In another, McConaughey details his conspiracy theory that football was invented to sell food. The ad features many big stars, including Kevin Bacon, Stewart and Charli XCX. In the end, it turns out the whole thing was him making a pitch to Gerwig.

Gordon Ramsay and Pete Davidson came together to star in the Super Bowl ad for HexClad, which is the first cookware brand to air a commercial during the big game.

In the ad, the celebrity chef is brought to Area 51, where he is tasked with preparing a meal for a newly-discovered alien species. While there, he comes into contact with a number of aliens, one of whom is attempting to make Ramsay’s signature dish, a beef wellington.

After learning about the technologically advanced HexClad pans, which he is told were “developed using materials from an alien spacecraft” and were leaked to the public eight years ago, he finds out the alien he is cooking for is actually Davidson.

When a shocked Ramsay asks, “You’re an alien?” Davidson replies with, “All famous people are aliens.” Still confused, Ramsay points out that he is famous and not an alien, Davidson quips, “I meant like really famous people.” A confused alien then asks Davidson, “Who is this guy?” further poking fun at Ramsay.

“We had a small list, and Gordon was the one who was like, ‘I want Pete Davidson,’” HexClad co-founder and CEO Danny Winer told The Hollywood Reporter. “It wasn’t a hard sell … Pete was a gem, and the two of them on the set, I mean, the only time there was a second take, it was when they were cracking each other up. There was great chemistry.”

Singers Becky G and Seal star in a new Super Bowl commercial for Mountain Dew, highlighting the Baja Blast flavor, which has hints of tropical lime flavoring.

The ad starts with Becky G standing in her kitchen, when all of a sudden, the Mountain Dude slides across her center island with a bottle of the Mountain Dew Baja Blast. As soon as the singer takes a sip, she and the Mountain Dude are transported onto a boat in the middle of “Baja Beach.”

After landing in the boat, Becky G and the Dude come across a rock covered in seals singing a cover of the song “Kiss from a Rose,” starting off with replacing “ba-ya-ya, ba-da-da-da-da-da, ba-ya-ya,” with “baja, baja, baja, baja.” It is soon revealed that the lead singer is in fact, Grammy Award-winning singer, Seal, with his face superimposed on a seal’s body.

In the rhythm of the song, he continues to sing, “Baby, I compare it to a kiss from a lime, on the bay. Ooh, the more I think of it, it’s strange I’m a seal, yeah. My flippers can’t hold Mountain Dew, what a shame,” as a bottle of Mountain Dew slips onto the rock between his flippers. “There is so much a seal can tell you, so much he can say. Dew remains, my power, my pleasure, my flame.”

As he wrapped up his song, two Orcas jumped out of the ocean in sync on either side of him, as a volcano erupted behind him, giving his song the cinematic ending it deserved.

Following the performance, the camera pans back to the boat and a shocked Becky G, who definitively says “this is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.” The camera then zooms out to show Seal, now in his human body, sitting with his legs crossed and drinking a bottle of Mountain Dew. “Good-looking seal,” he says.

“I think Mountain Dew is synonymous with the Super Bowl,” he told Fox News Digital. “The history that those two guys have had together speaks for itself, and so when I got the opportunity to be a part of that, it’s obviously something I jumped at, and I’m so happy I did it, cause it’s put a smile on people’s faces and it’s made people laugh. And it’s made me cool to my kids.”

The cast of “The Fast and the Furious” had a mini reunion when filming the Super Bowl commercial for Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

In the commercial, Vin Diesel can be seen speeding down a canyon with views of the ocean on one side and his co-star, Michelle Rodriguez, in the passenger seat. As Diesel speeds up, Rodriguez pulls out a chocolate-covered Häagen-Dazs ice cream bar, and smiles as she bites into it.

In the next clip, Diesel has slowed down the car as the two of them each enjoy an ice cream bar, smile at each other and take in the scenic views surrounding them.

The two of them are soon joined by Ludacris, who pulls up beside them in a Jeep, and asks, “What happened to fast life?” Diesel just smiles and responds, with a Häagen-Dazs in his hand, “Not today.” A shocked Ludacris shouts, “What? Are y’all kidding me?” as he drives away.

Diesel then turns up the music as the words “NOT SO FAST, NOT SO FURIOUS,” flash on the screen.

In a new Super Bowl ad for the website building company, Squarespace, Barry Keoghan returns to his home country of Ireland to tell everyone how the website can make their lives easier.

The ad sees Keoghan riding around the countryside on a donkey, with multiple laptops in tow. Throughout the commercial, he encounters many individuals either doing chores or engaging in a hobby, including playing an instrument, shepherding sheep or making horseshoes.

As he passes them, Keoghan throws a laptop, with the tab open on a website with more information on what they were doing, as he continues to preach about the benefits of Squarespace.

The commercial concludes with Keoghan riding off a cliff with his donkey as it continues to walk in thin air. The “Saltburn” actor then explained, “Making real what did be wanting to be, and now does be!” and the words, “A website makes it real” then flashed on the screen.

Keoghan’s appearance in the ad and his character’s dialogue was a callback to his role in the critically acclaimed film, “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which was also filmed in Ireland and also featured a donkey as his co-star.

Soon after, the man drops his phone into the ocean, but it’s luckily picked up by Culkin’s genius beluga. The whale then begins to tell the stunned man about the financial benefits of using NerdWallet, while also joking around with the man about being a genius.

The whale then swims away without giving the man his phone back, as the words “Letting NerdWallet do the work for you is genius,” flash onto the screen.

“I never expected to be a whale here, but here it is!” Culkin told People earlier this week. “I showed my wife it to see what you think, and she actually laughed really hard.”

TurboTax released a 16-second teaser trailer of their commercial for their “done-for-you” tax prep solutions, which is scheduled to air during the big game.

In the teaser, the actress can be seen carrying a box labeled “TAXES,” full of receipts, which were flying away in the wind. Rae then looks into the camera and says, “It’s 2025! This is taxes?” as the wind blows a piece of paper onto her face.

The words “A better way is coming. 2.9.25” then appear on the screen.

“We had a good relationship. And I think it’s a very big asset for everybody that I do get along with them,” the president said.

Trump met Kim again in 2019 and became the first president to step foot inside North Korean territory from the demilitarized zone.

Trump said Japan would welcome renewed dialogue with North Korea because relations between Japan and North Korea remain tense since diplomatic relations have never been established.

“And I can tell you that Japan likes the idea because their relationship is not very good with him,” Trump said.

Ishiba said it’s a positive development Trump and Kim met during Trump’s first term. And now that he has returned to power, the U.S., Japan and its allies can move toward resolving issues with North Korea, including denuclearization.

“Japan and U.S. will work together toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea,” Ishiba added.

Prime Minister Ishiba also addressed a grievance involving the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea in the 1970s and 1980s. Although North Korea released some of the prisoners in the early 2000s, Pyongyang never provided Japan with any explanation for the abduction of its citizens, and there can be no normalization of relations between Japan and North Korea until the issue is resolved.

“And so our time is limited,” Ishiba warned.

“So, I don’t know if the president of the United States, if President Trump is able to resolve this issue. We do understand that it’s a Japan issue, first and foremost. Having said that, we would love to continue to cooperate with them,” the prime minister added.

Super Bowl champ Ed McCaffrey a ‘big believer’ in safe gun ownership, gives advice on responsible handling

Ed McCaffrey won’t be watching any of his kids in the Super Bowl as he did last year with son Christian, but he still made the trip to New Orleans for a special cause.

The three-time Super Bowl champion recently partnered with Colt to spread awareness about responsible gun ownership.

“I’m a component of firearm safety. If you’re going to exercise your right to own a firearm, you ought to do it safely and responsibly. That’s why I partnered with Colt,” McCaffrey said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.

Clay Matthews, Fletcher Cox, Adam Vinatieri and Joe Thomas were nominated for Colt’s Safety Impact Award, and Matthews won it. McCaffrey said it was “incredible” to be a part of the campaign with some NFL legends.

“So many players, even those that I’ve coached, own firearms,” the former Denver Bronco said. “Colorado, big hunting state, big outdoors state. Access to different states is different. But everybody should train properly and know how to handle a firearm responsibly if they’re going to exercise their right to own them. I’m a big believer in them, and I think people may be surprised at how many people own firearms.

“They are a right to own. A lot of hunters own them. People own them for protection. Whatever your reasoning, if you’re going to own one, you have to learn how to operate them safely and responsibly. You owe it to yourself and friends and family. That’s why I’m really impressed with what Colt is doing. They’ve spent a lot of time and money to create awareness to allow gun owners and firearm owners to be safe and responsible.”

Colt is also giving away $100,000 if there is a safety in the Super Bowl Sunday.

McCaffrey also has advice for those who own or want to own guns.

“Take a course on gun safety. I would recommend, if you’re a first-time owner of a firearm, take a course. … Don’t just listen to a couple of tips from your buddy. Take a course, be responsible,” McCaffrey said.

He compared the process of learning responsible gun ownership to learning football at a young age.

“In football, I went to camps and clinics that taught me how to play the game,” he said. “If you’re going to own a firearm, you need to go take a course and get your license and make sure you’re reading everything on how to properly operate a firearm.”

  • PGA Tour credits Trump with moving LIV Golf deal closer during president’s big sports week

PGA Tour credits Trump with moving LIV Golf deal closer during president’s big sports week

The PGA Tour put out a statement Thursday thanking President Donald Trump for intervening in the tour’s effort to broker a business agreement with LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

“We asked the president to get involved for the good of the game, the good of the country and for all the countries involved,” a statement from PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and player director Tiger Woods said. “We are grateful that his leadership has brought us closer to a final deal, paving the way for reunification of men’s professional golf.”

After launching in 2022, LIV lured several star golfers with massive salaries, including Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia.

In June of that year, the PGA suspended 17 players who pledged to play for LIV and promised future suspensions for anyone who participated in LIV events.

In June 2023, the PGA Tour and the European-based DP World Tour announced they had a ‘framework agreement’ for a merger with PIF and LIV.  But the agreement never materialized because the deadline to complete that deal passed at the end of that year.

More than a full year has passed since, but now Trump’s intervention may bring that deal closer to fruition.

Golf star Rory McIlroy said in November he believed Trump becoming president for the second time could help “clear the way” for a deal between the PGA and LIV.

Trump has a close relationship with Saudi Arabia and LIV Golf, with several of its 54-hole events being staged at Trump-owned courses.

Trump’s intervention with the PGA-LIV negotiations was one of many big sports moments for the president this week.

Trump changed the course of women’s sports history by signing the “No Men in Women’s Sports” executive order in the East Room of the White House in front of female athletes on National Girls and Women in Sports Day Wednesday.

The NCAA quickly capitulated to Trump’s order, announcing Thursday afternoon a new participation policy for transgender student-athletes.

“A student-athlete assigned male at birth may not compete on a women’s team,” the new policy states.

It was also reported this week that Trump will become the first sitting president in history to attend a Super Bowl.

The news prompted excitement from Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

“It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president,” Mahomes said. “Someone that is at the top position in our country.”

    Kelce called it an “honor.”

“I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know. And having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool,” Kelce said.
