Trump’s cuts to foreign aid could benefit US position in Iran negotiations

President Donald Trump’s decision to cut foreign aid funding could strengthen the president’s bargaining position as he looks to contain Iran.

“I look at the USAID cutoff and the praise that the Iranians have given as part of President Trump’s negotiating skills,” EJ Kimball, director of Policy & Strategic Operations at the U.S. Israel Education Association, told Fox News Digital.

The comments come after Trump’s controversial decision to halt funding for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and send most of the employees of USAID packing, part of the administration’s plan to weed out what it considers wasteful government spending.

Despite the controversy, the decision has received praise from the Iranian regime, who have traditionally viewed U.S. aid to Iran as a threat to the country’s government.

According to a report from The Associated Press on Wednesday, Trump’s move has been “lauded” in Iranian state media, who view the cuts to foreign aid as a blow to pro-democracy activists Iran believes have benefited from U.S. foreign aid.

The favorable perception of Trump’s move by Iran comes at a critical time, with Trump recently renewing the U.S.’s “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran and reaffirming the U.S. position that Iran can never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.

While Trump has used harsh rhetoric on Iran in recent days, including a vow to “obliterate” the country if it successfully carries out an alleged plot to assassinate him, the president has also urged the regime to begin negotiating for a “nuclear peace agreement” with the United States.

“I want Iran to be a great and successful Country, but one that cannot have a Nuclear Weapon. Reports that the United States, working in conjunction with Israel, is going to blow Iran into smithereens ARE GREATLY EXAGGERATED,” Trump wrote in a post on social media Wednesday.

TRUMP’S LATEST HIRES AND FIRES RANKLE IRAN HAWKS AS NEW PRESIDENT SUGGESTS NUCLEAR DEAL

Kimball believes Trump can use the cuts to foreign aid as a bargaining chip in those potential negotiations, noting the president could change his mind and resume the funding if the Iranians fail to reach an acceptable deal.

“I would say that he’s teasing the Iranians at the moment, knowing that really at any moment’s notice, he could immediately turn back on the spigot of funding to the opposition groups if he doesn’t feel like they’re acquiescing to his demands or negotiation,” Kimball said.

“It seems to me that he’s got a carrot-and-stick approach with the Iranian regime, and pausing funding for regime critics, teasing a deal, but also threatening sanctions, and talking to Israel about a military strike and how Iran will not get nuclear weapons is part of his master negotiating skills to keep his opponents off balance,” Kimball added.

In the end, Kimball believes Trump’s ultimate goal is to cut a deal that would eliminate Iran’s nuclear program without putting U.S. service members in harm’s way in another overseas conflict.

“It’s been very clear he does not want to send U.S. troops to war, but he’s also not going to be soft about it and allow the taking of a bad deal to avoid war,” Kimball said. “The end goal for President Trump is a deal that removes the threat that Iran poses to the United States, to Israel, to the region, and really to the entire world, not just in their nuclear program, but in their ballistic missile development and delivery systems to ensure that Iran can be great again.”

  • Oddsmaker says it is ‘an aberration’ that Vegas, NFL are in cahoots to benefit Chiefs

Oddsmaker says it is ‘an aberration’ that Vegas, NFL are in cahoots to benefit Chiefs

The consensus is that the Kansas City Chiefs have gotten the benefit of the whistle, but some have taken it a bit far.

Rob Gronkowski even admitted in a recent interview with Fox News Digital that he thought “something” was up with the officials.

But another about whether the NFL has been benefiting the Chiefs, which in turn is giving sportsbooks some extra money.

But that’s not happening, said one longtime oddsmaker.

“Not buying it. I just think it’s an aberration,” DraftKings director of sports operations Johnny Avello said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.

Avello admitted that the Chiefs “have caught a couple of good calls and breaks for maybe the last half-year or so,” but sometimes, that’s just the way it goes.

“That’ll change at some point,” added Avello. “I don’t think the refs are doing anything intentionally, I just think that it’s happening and things are going their way.”

Avello did admit that the Chiefs provide an added popularity that would lead to more proposition bets.

“The case in point here is the Chiefs have Kelce, Kelce brings Taylor Swift, people see Taylor Swift, then all of a sudden, more people are interested in the NFL, and we start making props around Kelce and the whole team,” said Avello.

DraftKing’s rival in FanDuel even has “Swift Specials” where you could bet propositions that are named as several of Swift’s songs.

But at the end of the day, “I don’t think any teams are bigger than the game itself,” Avello said.

The Chiefs are currently 1.5-point favorites on DraftKings, a number that has not changed at all since it originally opened almost two weeks ago.

“Usually there’s some movement. . . . Nothing has moved on the side,” Avello said.

However, Avello noted that 70% of money and wagers were on the underdog Philadelphia Eagles.

“In normal circumstances, when you’re getting plus-money on such a small point spread, this is the betting of some bettors, ‘I don’t think a team is gonna win by one, so why am I going to take the 1.5? Might as well take the plus-money. That’s the rationale behind it,” Avello added.

But could people be using their Chiefs fatigue to bet against them? Possibly, but that’s not a sound strategy.

“If you’re betting money, and you want to win a game, I don’t think you should use the dislike factor. You should bet with who you really think is winning the game,” Avello added.

  • Why famed NBA coach Pat Riley will benefit from potential Chiefs ‘three-peat’

Why famed NBA coach Pat Riley will benefit from potential Chiefs ‘three-peat’

Pat Riley might just be the biggest Kansas City Chiefs fan Sunday.

Nearly four decades ago, the famed NBA coach was ahead of the curve. After winning his second consecutive championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1988, Riley had three in a row on his mind.

But Riley’s business cap was on, and he decided to file a trademark for the term “three-peat.”

Riley was never able to capitalize because his Lakers fell to the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons the next season. However, when the Chicago Bulls won three titles in a row in 1993, Riley got paid a bunch. He also brought in cash when the Bulls completed another three-peat 1998 and again in 2000 when the Yankees did it.

TRUMP EXPECTED TO ATTEND SUPER BOWL LIX IN NEW ORLEANS

No professional North American sports team has won three titles in a row since the Lakers did so with Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal from 2000 to 2002. Now, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to become the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls.

The Chiefs and Riley have struck a deal that allows the Chiefs to sell “three-peat” merchandise. Riley will still profit, although it is unknown what the percentage will be.

Riley would give any proceeds to the Pat Riley Family Foundation, according to cllct.

Typically, licensees pay a 10% to 15% royalty on the price of an item with a trademark used.

If Kansas City fails to three-peat, it will be the Philadelphia Eagles’ second championship after winning their first in 2018. This is the Chiefs’ fifth Super Bowl appearance in the last six seasons.

Kristin Juszczyk, the wife of San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk, made the jacket for Daniels. The designer went viral last year for her custom-made jackets for Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner. Swift wore her jacket to a Chiefs game and Lautner wore his to a Lions game.

“We teamed up to auction off this one to help those in need who were (affected) by the LA fires,” she wrote in a post on her Instagram Stories.

    Only one will be auctioned.
