Charles Barkley has hope for the city of San Francisco after saying during the NBA All-Star Game broadcast that he met with Mayor Daniel Lurie.

The city was the host for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. Barkley had been on the city’s case because of its crime and homeless population. During the broadcast, he expressed some optimism that the city would start cleaning up.

“Shoutout to the people of San Francisco, especially the mayor. I met the mayor a couple times. He’s been tremendous, and hopefully we can do something about the homeless population,” Barkley said during a game between Team Shaquille O’Neal and Team Candace Parker.

Barkley said last month he would skip going to the game because it was in San Francisco.

“He’s going to make the All-Star Team,” Barkley said at the time. “I’m not going. I’m not going to that rat-infested place out in San Francisco.”

Barkley responded to one of his colleagues calling San Francisco “beautiful.”

“San Francisco is not a beautiful city. Rats. Cats. Y’all are not gonna make me like San Francisco. No. Nope, nope, nope”

However, it was far from the first time he had criticized San Francisco. Last year, he ripped the city during the NBA’s alternative broadcast of the All-Star Game, which took place in Indianapolis.

Barkley asked Reggie Miller which he would choose: playing in the cold in Indianapolis – where Miller spent his entire 18-year NBA career – or “being around a bunch of homeless crooks in San Francisco.”

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green called Barkley “crazy” and said that Barkley was not “welcome” in the city. Parker said, “we love San Francisco,” but Barkley offered a retort.

“No we don’t,” he said. “… You can’t even walk around down there.”

He later suggested you could walk around the city with a “bulletproof vest.”

Lurie has vowed to make San Francisco’s streets safe again, build “enough housing to turn around our affordability crisis” and tackle “our drug and behavioral health crisis.”

Saquon Barkley exudes confidence in fiery pre-Super Bowl speech: ‘They can’t f— with us’

The Philadelphia Eagles were clearly a confident team heading into Super Bowl LIX, despite the Kansas City Chiefs going against them looking for their third straight Lombardi Trophy.

Saquon Barkley’s pre-game speech, which was filmed leading up to the “Big Game,” proved that confidence was high for one of the team’s most important players.

Barkley, along with other senior members of the Eagles, gave a team speech in which he delivered a fiery assessment of the matchup ahead.

“As I watch film throughout the whole week, my confidence grows even more, and I hope you guys are feeling the same thing. These guys can’t f— with us. They really can’t.”

The Eagles were riding high from a blowout victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship to earn their spot in the Super Bowl.

But all week talk about potential NFL history for the Chiefs was discussed, and no matter how good a team may be, it could be a daunting task to face a team that has won back-to-back NFL titles.

However, Barkley was frank with how he felt about the Chiefs’ comfortability in this game.

“I don’t care how many times they’ve been here,” Barkley continued. “I don’t care how many times they’ve won it. They haven’t seen a team like this.”

Barkley’s words were proven true as the Chiefs looked like the team not ready for the moment while the Eagles blew them out, 40-22, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans to win the franchise’s second Lombardi Trophy.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was named Super Bowl LIX MVP, also gave a speech that was recorded as well. He said that going to the Super Bowl two seasons ago was a life-changing moment.

“I put on a good show, but I left that motherf—er empty,” Hurts said, referencing the close loss the Eagles had against Kansas City in the end.

“Ask yourself how you want to be remembered,” Hurts said to his teammates.

In the end, this Eagles team will be remembered not only as the squad that halted NFL history, but also as one of the best teams ever assembled to win it all.

And while the play on the field is the main grab, the mindset was clearly set by the team’s stars to get them prepared for what was to come on game day.

Saquon Barkley left speechless after first Super Bowl title: ‘You can’t use words’

Philadelphia officials estimated more than 1 million people would gather for the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory parade.

On Friday, a sea of fans wearing Eagles green lined Philly’s Broad Street to take in the festivities.

The Eagles’ defense delivered a strong performance, sacking Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times and forcing two interceptions en route to a 40-22 victory Sunday in New Orleans.

Five days later, supporters got a chance to cheer on the team in their hometown.

The scene appeared to leave star running back Saquon Barkley in awe.

“You can’t use words to describe this,” Barkley told a reporter as he rode an open-top bus in the parade.

Barkley then spoke about the enjoyment he was experiencing.

“Every time I think Philly can’t take it to another level, it takes it to a whole ‘nother level. Me and my family are just happy and honored to be a part of this organization, be a part of this city. This city deserves it all and here we are.

“I might be having too much fun.”

The three-time Pro Bowler then declared Eagles fans the “best fans in the world.”

“It definitely exceeded expectations. I saw a little clip on it the other day [from] 2017 when they won the first Super Bowl. We got the best fans in the world,” he said when asked whether the celebration surpassed his expectations.

Philadelphia is known for having some of country’s most passionate fans, but those supporters have had a limited number of championships to celebrate over the past few decades.

The Eagles’s latest Super Bowl title is the third pro championship in Philly in the last 40 years. The Phillies won the World Series in 2008, and the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in the 2018 Super Bowl.

“You get a little greedy and start thinking about the future and this brings you back to the moment,” said Barkley.

Saquon Barkley gifts Eagles offensive linemen trucks of Bud Light after his record-breaking campaign

Saquon Barkley did all of the running, but he knows he had some assists during his record-breaking campaign.

During Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles running back set the all-time record for the most rushing yards in a single season, including the playoffs, with 2,504 yards on the ground.

During an appearance this week on “The Tonight Show,” Barkley said that his offensive linemen had to be in attendance — but ahead of their Super Bowl parade, he perhaps gave the best gift of all.

Barkley gave each of his offensive linemen their own truckload of Bud Light.

Barkley dominated all season, much to New York Giants fans’ chagrin. After the Giants opted to move on from him, he became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards during the regular season. Had he not rested in Week 18, he very well could have broken former running back Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record.

CITY OF PHILADELPHIA ASKS EAGLES FANS TO ‘CELEBRATE RESPONSIBLY’ AT PARADE AFTER SLEW OF CHAOTIC TURNS

The superstar running back joined the Eagles on a three-year deal this past offseason, and it’s proving to be perhaps their best move in recent memory. Out of his 20 games played, he rushed for 100-plus yards 12 times and eclipsed the 200-yard mark twice.

His regular season earned him Offensive Player of the Year honors — it was the first time that running backs earned the award in back-to-back seasons since 2005 and 2006, when Shaun Alexander and LaDanian Tomlinson won the hardware, respectively (Christian McCaffrey won it last year).

Saquon Barkley spots Eagles ball boy in parade crowd, lifts him over barricades to join the action

The City of Brotherly Love hosted its second Super Bowl victory parade Friday.

A huge contingent of Philadelphia Eagles fans gathered along the parade route that stretched down Broad Street, the city’s famous thoroughfare.

Eagles players, coaches and executives, gathered atop floats and waved to supporters. Some players, including Saquon Barkley, opted for closer interactions with the fans at certain points of the parade.

As Barkley walked along the street, he spotted the team’s ball boy.

After greeting the ball boy, Barkley used a bear hug to help him get over a barricade and onto the parade route.

Barkley also helped create another memorable moment during the celebration when he took notice of a sign that said, “Today is my 3rd birthday. Go Birds!”

Barkley took a moment to take pictures with the young fan as he held her sign. The interaction appeared to leave the 3-year-old’s father in a state of shock.

“I couldn’t believe it was happening,” he said, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Barkley had a memorable first season with the Eagles. After experiencing limited postseason success during his six-year run with the New York Giants, Barkley signed with Philadelphia in the offseason.

Saquon Barkley had just finished up his rookie season with the New York Giants and wasn’t at all focused on the Philadelphia Eagles’ first-ever Super Bowl victory parade in the City of Brotherly Love in February 2019.

Seven years later, Barkley was a catalyst in the Eagles beating the Kansas City Chiefs to win Sunday’s Super Bowl in his first year with the franchise. And he’ll be one of the players every fan in the streets of Philadelphia wants to see during Friday’s parade.

The parade, which kicks off at 11 a.m. ET at the Sports Complex and ends with a ceremony on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is expected to be even bigger than the parade in February 2019, when Jason Kelce entertained a crowd in a Mummers costume.

Barkley got a small taste of what to expect Friday when he made an appearance Thursday at Raising Cane’s in Trevose, Pennsylvania, alongside the chicken chain’s founder, Todd Graves. Eagles fans were lined up as early as 5 a.m. to see and thank Barkley for bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to the city.

Speaking with reporters, Barkley acknowledged he wasn’t sure what to expect as he travels around Philadelphia, but he knows it’ll be a party to remember.

“Philly fans have been amazing all year round,” said Barkley, AP Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 2,000 yards in 2024. “Just the love and support they have for this team. This city truly buys into this team, and you could see it out there how many people showed up.

“I’m expecting it to be a blast — a party — and I’m excited to be here with Raising Cane’s with Todd, who’s a really good friend of mine.

“It’s been a crazy week so far for me, but just taking it all in and enjoying it.”

Barkley said he won’t be the player making a Kelce-esque speech on the museum steps, but he knows which players he would choose to do so because of how much they mean to the city.

“It won’t be me, I can guarantee that,” he said, laughing. “That’s not my thing. If I had to pick one, I’d say Lane Johnson or [Brandon Graham]. I think they’re the two longest-tenured Eagles right now, so I think it would be perfect for one of them to do that, especially if it is BG’s last game and last year with us. For him to go out with a bang would be pretty cool.”

While Barkley will enjoy celebrating victory with his family, friends and teammates, the City of Philadelphia will be making sure to keep the party a safe one, especially after the shooting during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade last year. One person was killed, and 22 others were wounded, including 11 children.

Eagles fans have mobbed the streets of Philadelphia many times in the past, including twice this year after the Eagles won the NFC championship and Super Bowl.

“You will see a large police presence continue throughout the day and into the evening,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said of the parade.

Barkley is ready to celebrate with the fans.

“[The fans] have been amazing to me, my family, especially my little daughter,” Barkley said. “From the first time I had my opening interview and my daughter was with me, they fell in love with her. It’s been a blast. For the season to go the way it went and finish it off the way we ended as Super Bowl champs, you can’t make it up.”

Saquon Barkley proclaims next goal after dream Eagles season: ‘Why not win another Super Bowl?’

“It’s a great story, right?” said Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley when asked to sum up the last 10 months leading up to Super Bowl LIX, where he and his squad came out victorious.

Barkley sat inside a Raising Cane’s in Trevose, Pennsylvania, speaking to the media, reflecting on what just happened on Sunday: the Eagles beating the Kansas City Chiefs to stop NFL history and hoist the franchise’s second Lombardi Trophy as champions of the 2024 season.

Barkley was the AP Offensive Player of the Year, entering the 2,000-yard rushing club to lead the NFL in that category while being a catalyst for a stacked Eagles bunch that got redemption from their Super Bowl LVII loss.

If you asked Barkley if he was going to hoist the trophy in Philadelphia even just last year, he’d probably say no. But after the New York Giants allowed him to walk into free agency, the Eagles came calling and they struck a deal.

The rest is quite literally history.

“You kinda can’t make it up,” Barkley, who was joined by Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves and hundreds of Eagles fans to celebrate the Super Bowl LIX win, told reporters. “But for me, I look at it more of the people that were with me during it. My family, my friends, the love and support they’ve had for me. Then, not losing faith.

“If you would’ve told me when I was 19 or 20 years old that it would take me seven years to have the type of year I did and to win the Super Bowl, I probably wouldn’t have thought that was the case. But that’s life. There’s adversity, there’s ups and downs, and I think the fact I didn’t lose faith and I had the right mindset during those times, when my time was meant to come, I was ready for it. I think that definitely helps.”

At the height of the celebration, Barkley was asked in the Eagles’ locker room at Caesars Superdome what was next for the team he just joined and has two more seasons with (at least contractually).

“I said after the game, ‘Why can’t our dynasty start now?’” Barkley said. “Probably had a little bit of champagne and other stuff in my system at the time. But you really can’t focus on that. You got to enjoy the moment. It’s hard to win one, and you take it in, enjoy the moment and start all over. It kinda starts over after Friday.”

Now, that doesn’t mean Barkley’s words about a potential Philly dynasty were not true.

He does believe this team has the makeup to do what the Chiefs attempted against them – win three straight Super Bowls for the first time in league history.

Eagles star receiver A.J. Brown expressed his feelings on social media that the “hunt” to take down teams and win is what drives him, and as a result, he still isn’t hung up on winning the “Big Game.” His counterpart DeVonta Smith said something to the same effect.

“That’s the beauty of the team that we have, a lot of guys have similar mindsets,” Barkley said. “I saw A.J. post something about it, I saw Smitty post something about it. I was with [quarterback] Jalen [Hurts] throughout the week and had conversations with him. It kinda sucks because when you’re a kid, you’re super excited to accomplish this thing. But when you accomplish it, you have fun in the moment, and then two nights ago I had a hard time sleeping because I’m thinking about how I’m going to attack the offseason.

“You kinda get – greedy is not the word – addicted to it. You want to find a way you can hold that Lombardi up again and do it all over again. You take it in, you cherish it, you appreciate the fans. But the dynasty thing, you can’t get caught up in that. The way you do that is by putting the work in, and there’s a reason why we won and had the success we did. Try to do it all over again next year.”

So, Barkley will enjoy Friday’s Super Bowl parade in Philadelphia, which kicks off at 11 a.m. at the team’s complex. Like he said, he’ll be cherishing the moment with his loved ones and teammates, soaking in the love from fans, which he felt a small taste of on Thursday.

But what’s next for him and this team? It’s simple: defend the title.

“That’s the dream. Why not have a better year than I had? Why not win another Super Bowl?” Barkley said.

Microphones captured a portion of the emotional moment Barkley and Congdon shared.

“You did it. You did it baby,” Congdon told Barkley as she held the couple’s son in her arms.

“I love you,” Barkley replied.

Barkley also celebrated his birthday Sunday, and People reported Barkley popped the question before last week’s Super Bowl.

Barkley and Congdon, who met while they were students at Penn State, have two children.

Saquon Barkley doesn’t understand Taylor Swift ‘hate’ at Super Bowl, says ‘she’s made the game bigger’

Taylor Swift heard the boos from fans at Super Bowl LIX but Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley admitted he couldn’t understand why.

Barkley helped the Eagles to a Super Bowl title as Philadelphia defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, with Swift in attendance rooting for Travis Kelce and the guys in red and white.

He appeared on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday and was asked about the prospects of Kelce marrying Swift.

“I have no idea. I will say this though,” he told Stern, “You know, I remember that they showed her on the jumbotron and she got booed. I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there.

“She’s there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger. You know, we’re all about, in football, we’re all about, you know, how can we expand the game and make it more, you know, internationally and we’re traveling to Brazil and we’re traveling to Mexico, and you know, apparently we’re traveling to Australia soon, so we’re trying to expand the game and, you know, her being a part of it’s only helping that, so I don’t get the slack that she’s getting.”

Barkley didn’t have the breakout game he had been used to during the season, but still made NFL history.

He set the record for most rushing yards in a single season when counting regular-season and postseason stats. He had 57 yards in the win with 2,504 total rushing yards, beating the mark set in the 1998 season by Denver Broncos legend Terrell Davis.

Jalen Hurts dispels ‘tush push’ term, Saquon Barkley discusses role in Eagles’ famed short-yardage play

The Eagles are taking a victory lap. Philadelphia steamrolled the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX this past Sunday, winning the franchise’s second Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Two of the team’s stars, quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley, stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday to reflect on the big game. “I’ve just been telling people I was trying to process it, and I think when you go into that, you don’t know how you’re going to feel,” Hurts said.

“You watch, as a fan, sports and championship games and these iconic moments. And you see the greats and how they handle it, and their excitement and the rush of emotions,” the Super Bowl LIX MVP continued. “And all I could think about was all the hard work. All I could think about was all the effort.”

The Eagles opened the scoring in Super Bowl LIX when Hurts found the end zone via the infamous “tush push.” Over the past couple of seasons, the Eagles have mastered the rugby-style quarterback sneak that has become known as the “tush push” or the “brotherly shove.”

But Hurts suggested that neither name is actually accurate. “I’m not gonna say what I call it, but it’s not that. Everybody came up with their own name for it: the ‘Brotherly Shove,’ the ‘tush push,’ all these different things. It’s not that,” Hurts said.

On short-yardage plays, Hurts typically lines up under center with two or three players behind him. He takes the snap, the offensive line surges forward and Hurts gets a big push from behind. More often than not, the Eagles gain the yardage needed for a first down.

Barkley, who signed a three-year deal with the Eagles last March, admitted that he was surprised to learn the play was not referred to as the “tush push.”

“I didn’t know if that was what it would be called, but… it’s not called a ‘tush push,’ actually,” Barkley said. When it comes to his role in the “tush push,” Barkley said.

“I think I have the easiest job, to be honest. I’m the one who pushes the tush…”

Hurts finished the Super Bowl with 221 passing yards and two touchdowns. While Barkley was mostly contained during the game, finishing with 57 rushing yards, he was a key part of the Eagles’ success this past season.

The three-time Pro Bowler rushed for a career-high 2,005 yards during the regular season. He added 499 rushing yards in the Eagles’ four playoff games.
