Munich car attack suspect appears to have had ‘Islamist motivation’: prosecutor

The suspect accused of injuring more than 30 people in a car ramming attack in Munich, Germany, appears to have been motivated by Islamic extremism, prosecutors revealed Friday.

The 24-year-old Afghan, a self-described bodybuilder and fitness model, was arrested Thursday after he drove his Mini Cooper into the back of a labor union demonstration. The incident unfolded near where world leaders — including Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — were expected to gather for the Munich Security Conference.

Prosecutor Gabriele Tilmann said that the suspect said “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is great,” to police and then prayed after his arrest — which prompted a department that investigates extremism and terror to take on the case immediately.

In questioning, he admitted deliberately driving into the demonstration and “gave an explanation that I would summarize as religious motivation,” Tilmann said, according to the Associated Press. “According to all we know at the moment, I would venture to speak of an Islamist motivation.”

However, there were no indications the suspect was in any Islamic extremist organization, she reportedly added.

Tilmann also announced Friday that the suspect, who arrived in Germany as an asylum-seeker in 2016 and lived in Munich, posted content with religious references — such as “Allah, protect us always” — on social media.

The attack left 36 people injured, and the suspect is now facing 36 counts of attempted murder as well as bodily harm and dangerous interference with road traffic.

The deputy head of Bavaria’s state criminal police office, Guido Limmer, said investigators found a chat, apparently with relatives, in which the suspect wrote “perhaps I won’t be there anymore tomorrow,” but so far they have found nothing that points to concrete preparations for the attack or anyone else being involved.

The man had no previous convictions and had a valid residence permit. Tilmann also said there was no indication of mental illness.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier reportedly laid a flower at the attack scene Friday morning, where he condemned “the brutality of this act” and said that it “leaves us stunned.”

NYC council moderates ‘thrilled’ at Homan visit, pledging to help border czar fight ‘progressive monopoly’

Moderate members of New York City’s otherwise overwhelmingly progressive City Council met with President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, on the same day the lawman met with Mayor Eric Adams.

Homan, himself a New York State native from the Watertown area, joined a meeting of the bipartisan “Common Sense Caucus” led by Councilmembers Bob Holden, D-Glendale, and Joann Ariola, R-Howard Beach.

At the meeting, Homan pledged to act swiftly when informed of another migrant shelter being planned for an outer borough.

Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato told 1010WINS after the meeting that Homan had been incensed to learn that Adams’ Office of Asylum-Seeker Operations had announced a 2,200-bed shelter in the Bronx.

“Get me that address,” Homan reportedly told Marmorato, R-Throggs Neck.

The shelter is planned for a low-income area off the Bruckner Expressway in Mott Haven – not far from the RFK-Triboro Bridge, according to reports.

“Enough is enough,” Marmorato – the only Bronx Republican on council – headlined a press release about “migrant dumps” there.

Holden is a moderate who famously took office in 2017 by unseating a Democrat who outraised him tenfold while running on the endorsed Republican, Conservative and Dump de Blasio ballot lines.

“Today, we had a productive meeting with Tom Homan, the Border Czar, to discuss the serious public safety consequences of sanctuary laws,” Holden said in a statement.

“I have full confidence in Homan and his team to enforce federal laws and keep our communities safe.”

As for Adams’ meeting with Homan, he appreciated the mayor’s acknowledgment of the crisis, but added, “words are not enough – he needs to take real action.”

Adams, who on Thursday also pledged to work with the feds to fight gang proliferation at the city’s Rikers Island prison, announced executive action to reopen an ICE facility on the island in Hell Gate.

Holden called the move a “significant first step” toward prioritizing New York City public safety.

“I first pitched the idea of reopening the ICE office in December, and I’m glad to see action finally being taken. Thank you to Tom Homan for his leadership on this issue.”

Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, a Brighton Beach Republican and immigrant from Ukraine, noted that her family “came here legally” and slammed the “top-down failures” of the Biden era.

“It’s a thrill to have a man of action leading immigration and border enforcement,” Vernikov said on X, formerly Twitter, adding that she was unable to make the meeting itself but sent a staffer in her stead.

“The consensus is that we are all done with the media and leftist politicians making excuses for lawbreaking,” she said, adding that she had paved her own path to legal citizenship and now practices immigration law.

“Illegal immigration is destroying this city and is offensive to citizens. Full stop. If the mayor won’t revoke sanctuary city status, I expect the Trump administration will provide very compelling and hard-hitting incentives to do so.”

Ariola, who took over as the caucus’ GOP co-chair upon longtime Staten Island Councilman Joe Borelli’s retirement, said on X that “we need change – we need it now.”

Councilman David Carr, R-New Dorp, also tweeted about the Homan meeting, saying New York needs to stop “shielding” migrants from ICE.

Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, R-Whitestone, reacted to the meeting by pledging to double her efforts to fight the crisis.

“Despite the progressive monopoly in this city, I plan to use whatever power I have, in partnership with the Trump Administration wherever possible, to keep my district and my constituents safe,” she said.

Democrats currently hold a 44-5 supermajority on the council, with one vacancy from each party.

One caucusmember, however, skipped the meeting with Homan, saying that she had a scheduling conflict and that “not every immigrant is a criminal.”

“I am an immigrant. No one can ever tell me about the challenges faced by newcomers to New York and to this nation,” Councilwoman Susan Zhuang, who was born in China, told City & State.

“Find the criminals and deport them, yes. But leave decent hard-working families alone,” said Zhuang, D-Dyker Heights.

World Pangolin Day 2025 Date: Know History and Significance of the Day That Calls for Protection of These Ecologically Important Creatures

World Pangolin Day is an annual event that is observed on the third Saturday of February each year. This annual event aims to raise awareness about pangolins, the world’s most trafficked mammals. This year, World Pangolin Day 2025 falls on Saturday, February 15. Pangolins are unique, nocturnal mammals found in Africa and Asia. They are known for their ability to curl into a ball when threatened.

Their protective keratin scales make them distinct, but unfortunately, they have been a target for illegal wildlife trade due to the high demand for their scales and meat. In this article, let’s know more about the World Pangolin Day 2025 date, history and significance of the annual event.  February 2025 Holidays and Festivals Calendar: Get Full List of Major Events in the Second Month of the Year.

    World Pangolin Day 2025 Date

World Pangolin Day 2025 falls on Saturday, February 15.

    World Pangolin Day History

The first World Pangolin Day was celebrated in February 2012. The aim of World Pangolin Day is to draw as much attention to pangolins as possible since they are still relatively unknown outside of Africa and Asia. By spreading awareness on this annual event, the global community can come together and ensure the survival of these fascinating and ecologically important creatures.

    World Pangolin Day Significance

World Pangolin Day is an opportunity for pangolin lovers around the world to come together and raise awareness about these unique mammals and the plight they face. Unfortunately, pangolins are one of the most frequently encountered mammals in the illegal wildlife trade. This annual event serves as a call to action for conservation efforts, stronger anti-poaching laws, and public awareness to protect pangolins from extinction.

On this day, many organisations, including conservation groups and wildlife activists around the world, host events to educate people, advocate for bans on pangolin trafficking, and promote habitat protection.

Amid rumours of separation, Barack and Michelle Obama post Valentine’s Day selfie: ‘Thirty-two years together…’

Putting an end to speculation of their divorce, former US President Barack Obama on Friday posted a Valentine’s Day selfie with wife Michelle.

Taking to X, Barack wrote, “Thirty-two years together and you still take my breath away. Happy Valentine’s Day, Michelle Obama!”

Obama’s post arrived amid rumours the couple is heading for divorce after being married for 32 years.

Though it is unknown when the image was taken, the former First Lady shared the same selfie on her own X account.

Responding back to Barack’s post, Michelle wrote, “”If there’s one person I can always count on, it’s you, Barack Obama. You’re my rock. Always have been. Always will be. Happy Valentine’s Day, honey!”

The Obama couple was last spotted together in December when they stepped out for dinner in Los Angeles, stated reports.

In January too, Barack Obama had also posted on the occasion of Michelle’s birthday.

“Happy birthday to the love of my life, Michelle Obama. You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor, and grace – and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to take on life’s adventures with you. Love you!” he wrote.

According to details, the rumours about divorce between Barack and Michelle fueled after the former president attended Jimmy Carter’s state funeral and Donald Trump’s second inauguration without Michelle.

But Obama post an image on X with his wife, saying, “President Carter taught all of us what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from this remarkable man.”

There were also rumours that the former US president was dating actress Jennifer Aniston. Though in October 2024, Jennifer publicly denied the rumours, calling them “absolutely untrue”, claimed by a US gossip magazine.

Dem mayor blasted for extending sympathy to suspect killed in officer-involved shooting: ‘Lack of leadership’

Milwaukee’s Democratic Mayor Cavalier Johnson deleted a social media post following an officer-involved shooting that said the suspect’s death was also a “tragedy,” leading to criticism from the Milwaukee Police Association.

“My thoughts are with the [Milwaukee Police] officer shot in the line of duty today,” the original X post stated. “The entire incident, including the death of the suspect, is a tragedy.”

The new version of the post only includes the first line expressing concern for the police officer.

The officer was allegedly shot by a suspect carrying a rifle before the suspect was slain by another officer, Fox 6 Milwaukee reported.

As of 2024, Milwaukee is considered one of the most dangerous cities in Wisconsin, according to SafeHome.org (Fox News)

“The original social media post was put up by a staff member.  When the Mayor saw it, he immediately insisted it be taken down. His sentiments are accurately expressed in the video that was posted,” the mayor’s office told Fox News Digital in an email.

“My thoughts are with that officer. My thoughts are with that officer’s family. My thoughts are with the Milwaukee Police Department,” Johnson said in the video referenced in his office’s statement. “I’m grateful, and I know that the people of Milwaukee are grateful as well that there are so many brave men and women who are part of this force who put their own selves in the line of danger in order to make sure we have safety in this community.”

A Johnson spokesperson told Wisconsin Right Now that “an appropriate reprimand is forthcoming” for the staffer who allegedly posted the original comment.

The Milwaukee Police Association said Johnson’s original post was insulting to law enforcement.

“MPA President Alexander Ayala contacted the Mayor’s office after seeing a social media post calling the death of a criminal who nearly killed one of our police officers today, a ‘tragedy,’” the association wrote on Facebook. “While we accept the Mayor’s apology that he made in a call to President Ayala, we must make it clear that this sentiment, even in error, insults every Milwaukee Police officer who puts their life on the line for the city.”

Officials and popular voices in the region also blasted the deleted post.

“Law Enforcement’s jobs are made harder by leaders like you who insult their service and sacrifice. A police officer almost didn’t go home today because he was shot by someone endangering his community. That is a tragedy, [mayor],” Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann posted.

“Your lack of leadership has created the environment for this to happen,” he added.

“Yes, he really did call the death of a lowlife thug who shot and very nearly killed a Milwaukee Police officer a ‘tragedy,’” Wisconsin-based radio personality Dan O’Donnell posted.

Team USA star Matthew Tkachuk delivers stern one-liner after Canadian fans boo during American national anthem

Team USA heard the boos loud and clear, and they weren’t happy about it.

When they took the ice ahead of their matchup against Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off on Thursday night, they were vociferously booed by the Canadian fans.

The booing continued during the “Star-Spangled Banner,” as fans disregarded the request from the public address announcer asking fans to respect the United States and Finnish anthems.

“I didn’t like it. That’s all I got,” Team USA star Matthew Tkachuk said postgame.

And Tkachuk played like someone who didn’t like it.

Tkachuk scored two goals in Team USA’s 6-1 win. It was 2-1 going into the third period before Team USA erupted for four goals in the third period to break the game open.

Tkachuk recently spoke about how “grateful” he is to be American during a visit to the White House.

Tkachuk was part of the Florida Panthers Stanley Cup winning team last season. He spoke at the White House while the team was celebrating the victory with President Donald Trump.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for having us today. We greatly appreciate it. Being one of the few Americans, who loves this country so much, it’s such an incredible day for myself. You wake up every day really grateful to be an American. So, thank you,” Tkachuk said.

Since Trump’s threat to issue tariffs on Canada and even saying that the country could become the “51st state,” it has been common for boos to be heard during the USA’s national anthem.

Both Toronto Raptors and Ottawa Senators fans have booed the USA’s national anthem, since the tariffs were set to begin.

Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke via phone last week just before additional 25% tariffs were to take effect on Canadian goods coming into the United States.

Trudeau said that Canada will implement a $1.3 billion border plan and appoint a fentanyl czar, in a post to X.

Trump had promised to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian and Mexican goods, as well as a 10% tariff on Canadian energy, as he has long said the countries have not done enough at the borders.

Trump said Mexico and Canada have failed to prevent the flow of illegal migrants and drugs, particularly fentanyl, into the United States. Trump also claims that the United States has subsidized Canada to the tune of $200 billion.

Team Canada and Team USA are the two favorites in the 4 Nations Face-Off and are set to play each for the first time on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET in Montreal.

Canada won their first game, holding on against Sweden in a 4-3 overtime victory on Wednesday.

Considering the bitter hockey rivalry between the two countries and the political dissension from Canada’s fans toward the U.S. right now, the booing could be thunderous during the “Star-Spangled Banner” on Saturday.

Hamas to free another American in Saturday hostage release

The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has released the names of the three hostages set to be freed Saturday, including American-Israeli Sagui Dekel-Chen, following days of concern that a ceasefire deal with Israel could collapse.

Russian-Israeli Alexander Troufanov and Argentine-Israeli Yair Horn, who along with Dekel-Chen were abducted by Hamas from Kibbutz Nir Oz on Oct. 7, 2023, will also be released on Saturday, which will mark 497 days in captivity.

Dekel-Chen is the second American to be released by Hamas since President Donald Trump re-entered office, following the release of Keith Siegel on Feb. 1.

FORMER HAMAS HOSTAGE’S MOM SAYS DAUGHTER WAS FORCED TO FAKE HER DEATH FOR A PROPAGANDA VIDEO

Hamas has said it will release Alexander (Sasha) Troponov, 29, Sagi Dekel-Chen, 36, Yair Horn, 46, on Saturday Feb. 15, 2025 in the next hostage release.

International concern over the stability of the ceasefire reached new heights after Hamas threatened not to release any more hostages – in direct violation of the agreement – after it claimed that Israel had violated the treaty by not facilitating the transport of humanitarian aid and targeting Palestinians in airstrikes.

Trump then said on Monday that Israel should cancel the ceasefire agreement if Hamas did not hand over all remaining hostages, not just the three slated to be released on Feb. 15 under the ceasefire agreement.

Concern mounted when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday also called on Hamas to release hostages come Saturday, but did not specify whether he meant all hostages or the three previously agreed to.

“The Israeli formal position is that we have an agreement that should be fulfilled,” retired IDF Major General Yaakov Amidror confirmed on Thursday during a discussion hosted by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA).

“We don’t [want to] shake the boat by adding [Trump’s] demand,” he said. “The question is, will Hamas fulfill the agreement from its side and release the three hostages?

“I think Hamas is not going to take the risk now when this is the mood in Washington,” Amidror added. “But we don’t know.”

Just 16 of the 33 hostages scheduled to be released during the first 42-day phase of the ceasefire have been freed.

Following the first week of the rocky agreement, which saw the release of seven hostages, three hostages per week were slated to be released under terms agreed to by Hamas and Israel. The final 14 hostages will be released together on Feb. 22, marking the final week of the first phase.

The IDF has assessed that at least eight of the hostages slated for release in the first phase have been killed while in Hamas captivity, though the number could be higher as the fate of Shiri Bibas and her two young boys – Ariel, who was four years old when he was abducted alongside his brother Kfir, who was nine months old – remains unconfirmed by the IDF.

Hamas has claimed they were killed by an Israeli airstrike, though the IDF has said it does not have evidence to support this.

Mediators were supposed to start to negotiate terms for the release of the remaining 65 hostages earlier this month, though Amidror said he does not believe they has officially begun. At least 26 of those slated for release in the second phase are assessed to have been killed.

In recent weeks, the hostages have confirmed fears that they were tortured, interrogated and starved during their time in Hamas captivity. And the state of the hostages released last week sparked an outcry as many pointed out the similarities in appearance of the three men to images of those who survived the Holocaust.

Five other Americans remain in captivity, including Edan Alexander, 19, an IDF soldier and the only remaining American still assessed to be alive, though he is not slated for release until the second phase of the ceasefire.

IDF soldiers Itay Chen, 19, and Omer Neutra, 22, are believed to have been killed by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, and their bodies continue to be held alongside Gadi and Judi Haggai, who were also killed during the terrorist attack near their kibbutz.

Siegel, 65, thanked Trump for his help in securing his release but urged him to ensure that the ceasefire is upheld and said, “Your leadership and strength will ensure the agreement is honored by all sides – that is what will allow all . . . hostages to return home to their families,” he added.

Jon Taffer schools Democrat leader after blaming Trump for rising prices

The pressure is mounting on President Donald Trump to deliver on his promise of lower prices, but some business leaders argue that stability is just as critical as affordability.

“Donald Trump has not kept his promise that on Day One, prices will start going down,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on Capitol Hill.

“Prices went up 3%. The price of groceries went up. The price of buying a car went up.”

While rising costs have fueled frustration, entrepreneur and “Bar Rescue” host Jon Taffer warns that unpredictable price swings can be just as damaging as high costs.

“We can’t survive when the prices are going up and down,” Taffer said on “The Big Money Show” Thursday. “You can’t run a business that way because you can’t boomerang your customers in that fashion.”

Taffer argues that businesses can adapt to higher costs, as long as those costs are stable.

“If stability is at [the] current level, so be it. We can build our business models around [the] current level. What we can’t build a business model around is a lack of stability. That’s what’s killing us all,” he stressed.
