Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones roiled fans when the team announced that Brian Schottenheimer would be the team’s next head coach, but it was his remarks to reporters on Monday that raised eyebrows.
It was not exactly Jones defending the decision that caught the NFL world’s attention. It was more how he said it.

“There’s a very low percentage of this that is smiles and glory holes. Very low percentage,” he told FOX 4 Dallas when asked about his feelings toward the Cowboys’ fans reactions.
Jones’ use of the phrase “glory hole” drew confusion and mockery. The two most-known references for the term are an unkempt storage place or a hole in the wall used for sexual exploitation. However, Jones seemed to be referring to an open quarry.
Glory hole is also a term used in the oil and gas industry as a type of mining into the sea to protect equipment from icebergs or packs of ice. Jones made money in the oil and gas industry before he decided to buy the Cowboys in 1989.

Sports Illustrated pointed out it was not the first time he referenced it either.
“I’ve been here when it was glory hole days, and I’ve been here when it wasn’t. Having said that, I want me some glory hole,” he said in 2012, via the Houston Chronicle.
When phrased like that, the Cowboys have not found any glory holes since the mid-1990s, when they last won the Super Bowl and were considered to be America’s Team.

Temple University released a statement about the incident.
“The loss of a promising 18-year-old man like Tyler is both tragic and traumatic,” the school said. “There are no words that can make sense of it, and the entire Temple community mourns his passing. Our hearts go out to Tyler’s family, friends, classmates and all who knew and loved him.
“A native of Toronto, Canada, Tyler was already a thriving student within Temple University’s College of Public Health, where he was majoring in exercise and sport science. As an accomplished gymnast with more than 120 medals in provincial, regional and international competitions, Tyler was fascinated with injury prevention, and this ultimately led him to pursue the major that he did. He no doubt had a bright future ahead of him, and it is so tragic that we will not be able to see how he would have made his mark on the world.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will face a Senate confirmation hearing on Wednesday on Capitol Hill as he looks to take over as President Donald Trump’s Health and Human Services secretary.
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been one of the loudest and proudest supporters of Kennedy, as he has been entangled in the political process, starting with the initial bid for president. Kennedy broached Rodgers to be his running mate during the 2024 presidential election – a moment that was captured on the Netflix docuseries “Enigma.”

“Retire and go into politics or play two or three more years,” he said. “I definitely envisioned a life without football, and it wasn’t scary. I felt comfort in being able to move on at some point. But I love football. I want to keep playing. And I hated the way last year went. There’s still some unfinished business in New Jersey.”
Still, Rodgers was strong in his support of Kennedy.
He said on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier this month that senators who were going to question Kennedy had better be ready.
“Like, please, somebody try and get after him and just watch him absolutely mop the floor with any of these senators,” Rodgers said. “You better come ready senators, come ready and try and see if you can pull one over on my boy, Bobby, because Bobby’s f—— smart, dude. And no notes, off the cuff, can handle his own pretty well, so excited for him to – and honestly so should everybody.”

Rodgers touched on Kennedy’s initiative to “Make America Healthy Again.” The movement appeared to be kick-started this week when the Food and Drug Administration banned red food dye due to potential cancer risk.
“Like, if you spend a minute researching ingredients in products in the states compared to overseas, it’s disgusting,” the star quarterback said. “It’s disgusting what they allow here, the levels that they allow here, products that are terrible for you, products they know are carcinogenic. So it’s going to [be] as he’s doing a service to everybody if you just let him and get the hell out of the way and stop trying to label him as whatever the f— they want to label him these days.
“He just wants to make sure that everything that’s being given to our kids is safe, everything that we’re ingesting on a day-to-day basis is safe, and he’s going to ‘Make America Healthy Again’ or is going to freaking die trying.”

A Colorado high school basketball coach was suspended after he was seen hanging up a Palestinian flag, and after he refused to shake hands with the opposing coach following a game against a Jewish school last week.
Lotus School for Excellence in Aurora and Denver Torah Academy competed against each other on Jan. 22. The Lotus School told Denver’s 9 News that the head coach of the team, identified only as Coach O., brought out a Palestinian flag before the game and hung it up.

The school said after the game the coach reacted to the flag again before going to the handshake line. The coach reportedly failed to shake hands with the coaches of Denver Torah.
“He grabs his flag and puts it around his neck,” Lotus School’s athletic director Deon Jackson told the station. “We saw the intent at that point.”
Emrek Bakyt, the school’s principal, announced the coach was suspended along with another assistant coach, according to the New York Post.
“It has nothing to do with Lotus,” Bakyt said. “It does not represent us, and we are, again, all about respect and diversity. That’s what we celebrate. That’s what we take pride in.”
Brandon Rattiner, a member of the Jewish Community Relations Council, condemned the coach’s actions in an interview with the New York Post.

“I think everybody in the Jewish community is very aware that there’s been a rising tide of antisemitism since Oct. 7,” Rattiner, who spoke on behalf of Denver Torah, told the paper. “And we’ve seen it in schools here and all throughout the country on many different occasions.”
Rattiner added that he thought the “key issue” was when the coach refused to shake the hands of the Jewish coaches.

“The key issue here is when the coach refuses to engage with a Jewish coach and Jewish students simply because they are Jewish or holding them personally accountable for a conflict started, not by Israel by the way, halfway across the world thousands and thousands of miles away,” he said.

Taylor Swift is set to be a focal point at the Super Bowl for the second consecutive year as she will very likely be in a suite at the Caesars Superdome cheering on Travis Kelce.
There is a lot less uncertainty around her appearance than there was last year. Swift was in the midst of the Asian leg of her “Eras Tour” and needed the conditions to be just right for her to fly back to Las Vegas to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers.

This time, the tour is finished, and Swift has her sights set on New Orleans. While the broadcast cameras were not necessarily on her every move during the playoffs so far, the impact she has made on fans – specifically young female fans – has been indelible.
Former New England Patriots star Julian Edelman underscored that point during his appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday.

An 18-year-old women’s soccer player in England was suspended six games for asking referees if transgender opponents on an opposing team were men.
It is the second incident when a teenage female player was banned for inquiring to referees about the birth sex of opposing players, The Telegraph reported.
The most recent incident took place in September when she made a comment to referees, asking if an opposing team’s goalkeeper and others were eligible to play. The female player reportedly has learning difficulties, including ADHD.
The incident was sanctioned by a National Serious Case Panel, and in addition to her six-game ban, with two games suspended, she was also forced to undergo an “online education course.” Her club was dealt seven disciplinary points.

In a statement provided to The Telegraph, the 18-year-old referred to the trans opponents as “extremely aggressive.” She also said she did not take her ADHD medication that day because “another medical condition” prevented it.
“It kind of made me hate football,” she said. “If I say anything else, I get another six-game ban. So I can’t even stand up for myself at this point.”
The first incident of a teenage female getting banned for such inquiries occurred in November. That month, a 17-year-old player with autism was punished for allegedly asking a transgender opponent “are you a man?” The female player was dealt a six-game ban, with four of them suspended.

In England, The Football Association (FA) has a policy of allowing players who are biologically male, but identify as female, aged 16 or older, to play in the women’s game.
According to the FA rules, “The general position is that the participation of trans people in competitive sports cannot be restricted unless it is strictly necessary to pursue a legitimate aim, namely securing fair competition and safety of other competitors.”
The FA’s policy is in accordance with the country’s Equality Act of 2010, which states, “Gender reassignment is one of nine protected characteristics… and as such transsexual people are protected against discrimination.”
The country’s policy that enables trans competitors against women also affected the U.K. Mini Series pool women’s championships in October. There, transgender competitors Harriet Haynes and Lucy Smith, both of whom are biological males, were allowed to play.
Haynes and Smith ended up facing off against each other in the semifinals after each of them defeated a string of biologically female opponents. Haynes won that match, advancing to the final. However, opponent Kirsty-Lee Davies defeated Haynes to ensure the championship went to a biological female.

The issue of trans inclusion in women’s sports has become a global issue in recent years that has prompted severe backlash by women’s rights groups across the West.
The United Nations has said nearly 900 biological females have fallen short of the podium because they were beaten out by trans athletes.
The findings were compiled by Reem Alsalem, the UN’s Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, titled “Violence against women and girls in sports.”
The report said that more than 600 athletes did not medal in more than 400 competitions in 29 different sports, totaling over 890 medals, according to information obtained up to March 30.
“The replacement of the female sports category with a mixed-sex category has resulted in an increasing number of female athletes losing opportunities, including medals, when competing against males,” the report said.

Ever since he retired, Clay Matthews has spent plenty of time on the field – just not the gridiron.

Matthews has backed Project ChildSafe, a charity that he says hits close to home as a father of three children all under the age of 10.
“This was a natural fit to work with Colt to come together on something that means a great deal to me, to give back and promote this education of firearm safety,” Matthews said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.

“[Project ChildSafe does] such an amazing job at this comprehensive education, from providing free locks for firearms to actual safes, working with local law enforcement, it was just a no-brainer… Project Child safe just really designated with me.”
Fans can vote for their favorite player until Friday on safetyimpactaward.com, and for every vote cast, Colt will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to the winner. Plus, if a safety happens in Super Bowl LIX, fans will have a chance to win $100,000.
“This is a competition after all, so I’m asking you to vote for my charity,” Matthews quipped, as he is up against Fletcher Cox, Joe Thomas and Adam Vinatieri.

EAGLES FAN, 18, ON LIFE SUPPORT AFTER FALLING FROM STREET LIGHT POLE DURING CELEBRATION: REPORT
Matthews said his soon-to-be 10-year-old son wants to go deer hunting soon, while his 5 year old “wants to sit in the blind for turkey hunting season this upcoming year.” The kids also get dressed up in “camo and blaze orange” quite often, he admits.
“People can guess what type of family we are,” he joked.
However, with that comes a lot of responsibility, and Matthews gave advice to his fellow firearm owners on how to keep everyone safe.
“First is have them locked up at all times. My kids from a young age have been brought up around firearms, whether it be hunting, recreational shooting, clinking, whatever it may be, but they understand dad’s in charge of that. You don’t have free rein. They’re completely locked up. I’m in charge of that,” Matthews said.

“And just the attention to safety, really, knowing where the barrel is pointed, finger off the trigger, stuff that seems easy for most gun owners, but when you’re raising children to be in that lifestyle to shoot firearms, you’ve just gotta teach and ingrain at a young age.
“My father did a fantastic job with me. I know I was the kid, ‘Dad, can I see this? Can I see that?’ ‘No, no, no.’ But when I got out there, there was a responsibility that I felt I had growing up in that environment, and hopefully my kids will have the same.”
Ahead of their deer hunting day, Matthews said he will be taking his oldest son out for practice – likely after a flag-football game.
