Philadelphia man shot after Eagles’ playoff win among multiple violent incidents

The Philadelphia Eagles earned a trip to the Super Bowl, and many of the city’s residents have had to pay a steep price for the ensuing chaos.

A 20-year-old man was shot during chaotic incidents that ensued in the city following the team’s NFC championship victory over the Washington Commanders last Sunday. An 18-year-old suspect named Amre Wright has since been taken into custody, according to FOX 29.

The victim is reportedly in stable condition.

The shooting is just one of many incidents that involved harm to a local. The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating one stabbing, two shootings, one act of vandalism and a vehicle striking several pedestrians, per FOX 29. So far, a total of 30 adults and one juvenile were cited for Disorderly Conduct or Failure to Disperse, and three adults were charged.

The individuals who have been charged reportedly include 34-year-old Tramayne Davis-Blockson, who was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Instrument of Crime and Recklessly Endangering Another Person in connection to a stabbing; and 32-year-old Jose Moya and 44-year-old Eugene Dennis, who were both charged with aggravated assault in connection to the assault of a police officer.

Additionally, a 26-year-old woman was reportedly taken into custody after striking eight pedestrians in the street, and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office was reportedly vandalized with a shattered front glass door and two cracked glass windows.

A Temple University student even died after climbing up a flag pole and falling to his death. Tyler Sabapathy, 18, was a student and gymnast from Toronto, Canada with more than 120 medals in provincial, regional and international competitions. He attempted to climb a flag pole in the city in celebration of the team’s win, and was taken to the hospital and was in very critical condition before he eventually died.

Eagles fans have been the subject of national scrutiny throughout the team’s playoff run this season.

The fanbase garnered negative national attention after one of their own, New Jersey man Ryan Caldwell, was seen in a viral video verbally berating a woman with vulgar slurs during the team’s first playoff game against the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 12. Caldwell was later fired from his job and released a statement apologizing for his actions.

Los Angeles Rams defensive end Jared Verse says Eagles fans hurled snowballs at him after his team’s divisional round playoff loss in Philadelphia on Jan. 19. Verse made comments about “hating” the fans to reporters in the week leading up to the game.

Amidst the widespread criticism, former Dallas Cowboys star linebacker DeMarcus Ware told Fox News Digital that Eagles fans once hurled snowballs stuffed with batteries at his mother during a game his rookie year in 2005.

“My rookie season when my mom was in the stands, I told her not to wear my jersey, and she was in the front row, and we’re up there in Philly. They were putting batteries in snowballs and throwing them, and one of them hit my mom,” Ware said. “I turned around at the time, and I didn’t care about football anymore. I wanted to go get the guy who was in the stands. But I didn’t.”

  • Stephen A Smith sounds off on LeBron James about son’s playing time amid struggles: ‘Stop this’

Stephen A Smith sounds off on LeBron James about son’s playing time amid struggles: ‘Stop this’

It’s becoming quite clear that Bronny James isn’t quite ready for the NBA yet.

The son of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer was called up from the G-League ahead of Tuesday’s game, and he got to play 15 minutes, by far the most of his young career, in his 13th appearance.

But it was a struggle, as he went 0-for-5 from the floor and committed three turnovers.

James has made just one shot of 16 from the floor this season, which adds up to just a 6.3 shooting percentage. Sure, it’s unfair to judge on such scarce playing time, but he certainly hasn’t done himself any favors.

The father-son duo have received flak ever since Bronny was selected 55th overall by his father’s team in the summer, with lots of criticism about nepotism.

Well, after Tuesday’s performance, Stephen A. Smith insinuated that it’s still going on, and it’s not beneficial.

“I’m really, really trying to be as respectful as I possibly can be toward LeBron James, one of the top two or three players in the history of basketball. I am pleading with LeBron James, as a father. Stop this. Stop this. We all know that Bronny James is in the NBA because of his dad,” Smith said on Wednesday’s edition of “First Take.”

Smith added he has “no issues” with the two playing on the same team, as James has “earned that” privilege.

But with his struggles, LeBron is not doing his son any “favors,” said Smith.

“We know that he’s not ready yet! And I’m saying this with compassion! I’m asking the greatest player in the game, one of the greatest we have ever, or will ever see, who is a basketball savant, you know what these numbers mean, to your son, you’re exposing your son like this.”

NFL legend laments difficulty of beating Chiefs: ‘You gotta beat the refs, you gotta beat Taylor Swift’

Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Reed underscored the difficulty of defeating the Kansas City Chiefs at their home stadium amid frustrations with the loss the Buffalo Bills suffered in the AFC Championship.

Reed, who starred as a Bills wide receiver during the team’s four straight Super Bowl losses, watched again as the team fell short against the Chiefs. He touched on the controversy surrounding the questionable calls from officials that seem to favor Kansas City as well.

Needless to say, the seven-time Pro Bowler was hot.

“The bottom line is you just gotta go out there and not play against the refs, but you kind of to a center point,” Reed said on “The Jim Rome Show.” “A lot of Chiefs are going to tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. That might be the case. But when you go into Kansas City, you gotta beat a lot of people. You gotta beat the team, you gotta beat the fans, you gotta beat the refs, you gotta beat Taylor Swift. You gotta beat everybody.

“If you just go out there and throw that all out the window and beat Kansas City at their own game, and beat them, that all is never gonna be said. Yesterday we didn’t do that.”

Reed said he wasn’t sure if the Bills would have won if the Xavier Worthy catch was overturned to be an incomplete pass and if Josh Allen got the first down on a 4th-and-1 play.

But it was those two plays that had fans wondering what officials were looking at the entire game.

Despite many eyebrows being raised, Dean Blandino, the NFL’s former head of officiating, says he doesn’t see favoritism toward the Chiefs.

“People are talking about officiating a little too much.… It’s always going to be a part of the conversation,” Blandino told TMZ Sports.

“Do teams get breaks at times? They do. And not every call is right. And sometimes that happens. I think it evens out over time. Me watching it, I don’t see these games and say the Chiefs are getting all these calls. These are close, close plays, and they happened to go in the Chiefs’ favor on Sunday.”

Blandino also disputed any notion there is some sort of conspiracy to favor the Chiefs.

“I get it. I’m a fan first. I grew up in New York as a Knicks fan watching Michael Jordan crush my dreams and saying, ‘The league wants Michael Jordan in the championships.’ Ultimately, when you’re a part of the NFL and you realize, for it to really be a conspiracy, do you know the amount of people that would have to be involved?

“Someone somewhere would slip up, and it would get out. If there was a room in the NFL office where they were writing the script, they never invited me, and I was the head of officiating. I feel like I’d be a pretty important contributor to that. I get it. People are passionate. I just think, sometimes, officials make mistakes… sometimes, when you have a team that has been this successful, I think it’s par for the course.”

  • School official appears to advise parents of trans athletes to change birth certificate to play girls sports

School official appears to advise parents of trans athletes to change birth certificate to play girls sports

A school district administrator in Texas was seen encouraging parents to make false changes to their child’s birth certificate so they would qualify to play in girls’ sports as a biological male, according to a recently released video.

The footage shows a man, allegedly Reny Lizardo, who serves as the executive director of campus operations for the Irving Independent School District, telling an undercover journalist that “It’s not illegal if you don’t get caught” in regard to doctoring a child’s birth certificate to undermine Texas state law that prevents trans athletes from competing in girls’ sports.

“Could you legally change the gender on a birth certificate? I don’t know enough about that subject,” he says, according to video obtained by Accuracy in Media. “If you can get that done, and you turn us a birth certificate that says ‘this gender,’ that’s the gender we go with.”

SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREE

When asked if a hypothetical trans athlete had the gender on a birth certificate changed to female and would be able to then play on the girls’ soccer team, the man allegedly identified as Lizardo responds, “Yeah.” He also says the school district could plead plausible deniability if the athlete’s birth gender was uncovered and prompted a lawsuit.

“If a parent found out or a student found out and said, ‘Wait a second. This person isn’t this gender,’ and they, like, sued the district, we’d be in trouble. But, we can also say, ‘We didn’t know’ … So, there’s a plausible deniability, I guess,” he is seen saying before suggesting their conversation not be spoken about again.

“Me and you never had this conversation.”

In June 2023, Texas passed the Save Women’s Sports Act that bans trans athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports, and only allows students to compete in the gender category listed on their birth certificate. The law only allows schools to recognize changes made to birth certificates that were made to correct a clerical error.

Texas is one of 25 states in the U.S. to have a law in place to prevent or restrict trans athletes from competing against girls and women, and a national bill is currently making its way through Congress.

HOW TRANSGENDERISM IN SPORTS SHIFTED THE 2024 ELECTION AND IGNITED A NATIONAL COUNTERCULTURE

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott addressed the footage involving Lizardo in a post on X, and called for him to be fired and criminally investigated.

“This Irving ISD Administrator should be fired on the spot. Both criminal & civil investigations must be taken against both the Administrator & Irving ISD,” Abbott wrote. “Has Irving ISD and its employees been involved in a fraudulent breach of state laws & a cover up? We must get the facts.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Irving Independent School District for comment.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act on Jan. 14, which would cut federal funding for any public educational institution that allows trans athletes to compete against girls and women in sports.

Every Republican representative voted in favor of the bill, but only two Democrats, Reps. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, and Vicente Gonzales, D-Texas, voted to pass it. The remaining 206 House Democrats all voted against. Rep. Don Davis, D-N.C., voted “present.”

A recent New York Times/Ipsos survey found the vast majority of Americans, including a majority of Democrats, don’t think transgender athletes should be permitted to compete in women’s sports. Of the 2,128 people polled, 79% said biological males who identify as women should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports. Of the 1,025 people who identified as Democrat or leaning Democrat, 67% said transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete with women.

    But Samuel disagreed.

“You’ve got to tip your hat to the Chiefs for always finding a way to win,” he continued. “We’ve got the Chiefs and the Eagles – you know, I’ve got a love-hate for both, but I got all the love for my brother A.J. Mahomes and company are pursuing a rare accomplishment when they arrive in New Orleans next week: becoming the only NFL team to ever win three Super Bowls consecutively.

But the Eagles are chasing a history of their own. A win in New Orleans on Feb. 9 would make Jalen Hurts just the fourth quarterback in NFL history to win the Lombardi Trophy after losing his first Super Bowl start.

It wasn’t until Patrick Mahomes became the full-time starter at quarterback, replacing Alex Smith in 2018, that the Chiefs broke through and made it to the AFC championship.

Since the 2018-2019 season, the Chiefs have yet to fall short of making the AFC championship in a season.

The Chiefs have now won three of the last five Super Bowls and have been branded the NFL’s villains.

You just circle the wagons when s—, you know people are saying whatever they want. And you just band it together, and it just makes you appreciate more of what you have because people want what you have,” Kelce said.

The Chiefs are just one win away from making history and becoming one of the great dynasties in the sport’s history.

WWE is ‘driving pop culture,’ pro wrestling legend Paul Heyman says

WWE had a stranglehold on the pro wrestling world for more than 12 months, as Paul “Triple” Levesque, the company’s chief content officer, introduced a new era into the company.

Cody Rhodes finished his story and opened up a new path as Undisputed WWE champion; Roman Reigns lost his title and had to deal with an insurgency in his Bloodline; Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan began a monthslong feud that saw the Women’s World Championship change hands a few times; Tiffany Stratton injected a youth movement into the women’s division with her Money in the Bank win and subsequent cash-in all the while the company welcomed a whole host of new faces to the main and development rosters.

Those were just the achievements in the ring. WWE debuted on Netflix and partnered with multiple brands, including Hulk Hogan’s Real American Beer, NBA, NHL and Cosm, as well as a multi-year partnership with TNA Wrestling to showcase talent on each other’s brands.

It is only scratching the surface as WWE begins WrestleMania season – akin to the Super Bowl – over the next few days. It will begin with the Royal Rumble on Saturday to determine the next superstars who will get shots at the men’s and women’s championships respectively.

WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman acknowledged the hot streak the company has been on as of late, suggesting to Variety it has transcended pop culture.

“We’re no longer a boutique industry,” he told the outlet. “We’re not on the fringe. We’re driving pop culture now, and with the fact that Roman Reigns is the undisputed top box office attraction, the number one star in the entire industry, and his Wiseman, are driving these cultural phenomenon, I would suggest the youth of this world is in very good hands right now.”

Matthew McConaughey, Kai Cenat, Gabriel Iglesias, Danielle Fishel, Vanessa Hudgens, Quavo and others have been seen in the stands. Not to mention, Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson appeared at WrestleMania 40, and NBA stars Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Haliburton mocked their on-court rivalry in the ring after the playoffs last year.

Hudgens explained to Fox News Digital her fandom goes above and beyond. She never misses a “Monday Night Raw” and plans to watch on Netflix every week.

  • Padres owner’s widow says team would have signed Roki Sasaki if she was involved, amid succession lawsuit

Padres owner’s widow says team would have signed Roki Sasaki if she was involved, amid succession lawsuit

EXCLUSIVE: The widow of late San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler has spoken out against her brother-in-law who claimed her lawsuit against him prevented the team from signing star pitcher Roki Sasaki.

Seidler’s brother, Matthew Seidler, provided a statement to Fox News Digital on Tuesday suggesting that Sheel Kamal Seidler’s lawsuit against him came during a “critical time” of negotiations with Sasaki. Matthew’s statement also claimed that their recruitment efforts were impacted by the fact her lawsuit claimed that he and his brother Robert were trying to relocate the Padres elsewhere.

Sheel Seidler’s representatives provided a statement to Fox News Digital, saying her lawsuit would not have prevented the team from signing Sasaki if she was involved in the recruitment process.

“Matt and Robert Seidler must be relieved to have an easy scapegoat for their failure to sign Roki Sasaki. The outcome could have been different if they hadn’t blocked Sheel from participating in the recruitment process, despite her many pleas to put aside any differences and help do what’s best for the Padres,” the statement read.

Sasaki himself said that one of the reasons he chose to sign with the Dodgers was because of the organization’s stability, at his introductory press conference last week.

“The No. 1 thing that stood out [about the Dodgers] was the stability of the front office,” the pitcher said via a translator.

Seidler’s lawsuit against her late husband’s brothers, Matthew and Robert, was filed in early January, as she attempted to seize control of the team from them for her children.

She claimed that Peter, before his death, revealed his dying wish was for her to take control of the Padres, followed by their children, and that her children hold the largest stake in ownership. She added that Peter’s two brothers, Matt and Bob, “are trying to erase Peter’s vision and legacy, as well as falsely cast themselves as Peter’s true heirs.”

“I made this decision as a very last resort, but I am confident it is the right one, and the best way to protect the Padres franchise and ensure the vision that Peter and I shared for the team will continue,” she said in a statement after filing her initial complaint on Jan. 6.

The suit also alleges that Robert’s wife made multiple “racist, profane and hateful communications directed at Sheel—a woman of Indian descent—in communications,” and that the two brothers are trying to “wrest control” of the ball club to prevent “an Indian-American woman” from taking what they “saw as their family business and ancestral right.”

Peter died in November 2023 at the age of 63. He had been ill for months, though it has not been disclosed what exactly he was dealing with. Seidler is a cancer survivor who had health issues for quite some time.

The Padres are currently owned by Peter’s estate, while John Seidler, Peter’s oldest brother, has been named as the interim control person for the team. However, John cannot be officially designated until three-quarters of Major League Baseball’s owners approve.

In addition to claiming the widow’s lawsuit prevented the team from signing Sasaki, Matthew’s response claimed that Peter never indicated he wanted Sheel to have control of the team after his passing.

“Peter could have chosen to (a) give Sheel the right to be, designate, or approve the individual that controls the Padres, (b) give Sheel direct ownership or control over the Trust’s interest in the Padres, (c) give Sheel the right to approve or veto any transactions by the Trustees, or (d) require the Trustee to make any principal distribution that Sheel demands,” the response read.

The response claims Peter amended his trust at least seven times after their marriage and never named Sheel a successor trustee in any version and that she was precluded from “ever serving as a successor trustee under any circumstance.”

The response also claims that Peter said during his life that he wanted his siblings and niece to take control of the team after his death.

“Peter had numerous conversations with his siblings and others about successor Control Persons and consistently identified five Seidler family members as candidates: Bob, Matt, John, his brother Tom (who has a 30+ year career in baseball, including 12 years with the Padres), and his niece, Monica,” it read.

In none of these conversations did Peter ever suggest or even imply that he wanted Sheel to run the Padres. As Peter told people close to him, he moved his family to Texas in 2021 in significant part because he wanted to ‘take pressure off Sheel and the kids’ and to ‘get Sheel out of the limelight.’ Peter knew all too well the potential effects of media attention, as well as the other pressures, stresses, and demands that come with owning a sports franchise.”

In a separate response provided to Fox News Digital, Sheel’s representatives expressed confidence that she will win in court.

“The response, for all of its bravado, is especially thin in responding to the very specific and serious allegations of Matt and Robert Seidler’s breaches of fiduciary duty. It’s ironic that they accuse Sheel — Peter’s wife of two decades and the mother of his three children — of misusing his assets, while at the same time they have reaped the benefits of Peter’s generosity for decades. The fact is, we will win in court because the defendants have shown they have no case. In short, their response is a total strike out.”

Raiders owner Mark Davis says Jon Gruden’s resignation set organization back: ‘His head was chopped off’

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis hired Jon Gruden as head coach in 2018, locking him with a massive 10-year contract with the confidence that bringing Gruden back would bring stability and success to the organization.

Instead, Gruden would be forced to resign years later over an email scandal – a sequence of events that Davis believes largely set the organization back.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Davis praised the additions of new head coach Pete Carroll and new general manager John Spytek. However, he also praised the team’s new “infrastructure,” which includes Tom Brady as a minority owner.

“Bringing in Tom Brady was bringing in somebody that was on the football side that I had been lacking having here at the organization,” Davis said.

“Back in 2018 with Jon Gruden, he was someone that I brought in and really expected to be that person on the football side that would bring stability to the organization. He had a 10-year contract and all that – and his head was chopped off.”

EX-NFL COACH JON GRUDEN RIPS STATE OF COLLEGE SPORTS

Gruden, who is currently suing the NFL, resigned after leaked emails sent by the former head coach included racist, misogynistic and homophobic remarks directed at NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith, among others.

Davis said that Gruden’s resignation in 2021 triggered a series of turnovers in the organization.

“We were put in a really bad position as an organization. And we tried to get it right with Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler – that didn’t work out. Antonio Pierce was given the interim job and I believe the job that he did as an interim coach warranted him earning the job as head coach of the Raiders… We just felt that it was time for a change.”

Davis said Monday that he believes Brady fills the void left behind by Gruden and that the new personnel brought in will have the lasting effect he had hoped for in 2018.

“We want to build something here. That’s been the process and mindset all along. Like I said, that got offset or kind of blown up when Jon Gruden was sent away. So, we’ve been trying to get it right since then. We’ll see, but I’ve got patience to get it right.”

Carroll takes over as the team’s 14th head coach since Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay in 2002. He is the fifth coach, including those in an interim role, since the Raiders moved to Las Vegas in 2020.
