Luka Doncic makes Lakers debut after blockbuster trade

The anticipation for Los Angeles Lakers fans ended on Monday night as Luka Doncic made his debut in purple and gold at the Crypto.com Arena against the Utah Jazz.

Doncic played 24 minutes as all but one Lakers star played under 30 (Austin Reaves). He made the most of it, scoring 14 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists. He was plus-15 while on the floor and 5-of-14 from the field.

He had not played since Christmas due to an injury and then was the main part of a blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers. As fans received Doncic T-shirts, and he stepped onto the floor with LeBron James, Doncic admitted he was a “little nervous.”

“I (don’t remember) the last time I was nervous before the game. But once I stepped on the court again, it was fun. Just being out there, it felt amazing,” he said after the game.

The Lakers won the game 132-113.

“Just the amount of cheering there was in the arena was absolutely unbelievable,” Doncic said. “That was my favorite part — and to play again.”

As the season wears on, Doncic’s chemistry with James is going to be a key factor. The Lakers moved to 32-19 on the year with the win and are currently in fourth place in the Western Conference. Being out of the play-in tournament will be a key for the team.

“Knowing Luka, whether he will admit this or not, there was probably a little bit of nerves playing for the Lakers for the first time, and the anticipation that this building had,” Lakers head coach J.J. Redick said. “I thought he handled it really well, and he played really well tonight. … He didn’t make it about Luka. He made it about playing good basketball and playing Laker basketball.”

Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP.

“This is the ultimate team game. You can’t be great without the greatness of others. Great performance by everybody — offense, defense, special teams,” head coach Nick Sirianni said. “We didn’t really ever care what anyone thought about how we won, or their opinions. All we want to do is win.”

Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson trolled Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in a post on social media following the team’s Super Bowl LIX victory on Sunday.

Gardner-Johnson, who had an interception return for a touchdown nullified late in the game, posted a message seemingly directed toward the star tight end and his romantic life.

“Should’ve stayed w that thick s***” he wrote as the caption.

Gardner-Johnson seemed to reference Kelce’s ex Kayla Nicole and made a comparison towards the tight end’s current flame, pop star Taylor Swift. Both women were on hand to watch the Eagles rout the Chiefs, 40-22.

Nicole was on the field blowing the green and white confetti around while celebrating the Eagles’ win. Kelce was seen after the game going up to Swift’s suite to meet with her before he left with the team. Kelce appeared downcast as he walked off the field following the loss.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift appeared to be shell-shocked at how Super Bowl LIX turned out on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, 40-22.

She was at the Super Bowl on behalf of the “I AM ATHLETE” podcast.

Kelce and Nicole dated for about five years before they split in 2022. In November, she lamented in a podcast interview that she was not “as cool” with some of the other wives and girlfriends of Chiefs players as she once was.

She told Radar Online at the time that she is not as close with the other Chiefs wives and girlfriends as she once was.

Stephen A Smith says he would divorce Serena Williams for Super Bowl halftime show cameo

Serena Williams made a surprise cameo during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show, as she was spotted dancing during the performance of “Not Like Us.”

Making an appearance for that song sparked some debate on social media, especially considering Lamar’s song is a diss track toward the rapper Drake, whom Williams dated in 2011.

Many believed it was no coincidence Williams’ time to shine was during this track, and ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith thinks the same.

It’s why, during his Monday edition of “First Take,” he told his colleagues he would divorce her if he was her husband.

“If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his a–, ‘cause clearly you don’t belong with me,” Smith said on the show, which led to some laughter from his colleagues.

“What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye.”

Williams is married to Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, and they share two daughters together.

Smith’s co-host Ryan Clark responded, “If you were with Serena Williams, you’re going to be a kept man anyways. Don’t start that.”

Lamar and Drake have quite the beef with each other, though only one of them saw Grammys won for their diss tracks.

“Not Like Us” won Song of the Year, which also won Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video.

It’s also worth noting Lamar was joined by SZA during the performance as well, and she confirmed dating Drake after he rapped about it on the track, “Mr. Right Now,” with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin.

Whether it’s trolling or not, Williams and Lamar do share a connection with their childhood, having grown up in Compton, California.

  • Virginia’s high school sports governing body to comply with Trump’s ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ order

Virginia’s high school sports governing body to comply with Trump’s ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ order

The Virginia High School League (VHSL) announced on Monday that its executive committee voted to bring its league in compliance with President Donald Trump’s executive order “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.”

Trump signed the executive order this past Wednesday, fulfilling one of his main campaign promises of keeping biological men out of girls and women’s sports.

The order was signed on Nationals Girls and Women in Sports Day, which celebrates females athletes in women’s sports and those committed to providing equal access to sports for all females.

The VHSL, which governs high school sports in the state, will comply with the executive order effective immediately.

“The VHSL is an association comprising 318 member schools with more than 177,000 students participating yearly in sports and academic activities. The VHSL is the governing body, and our member schools look to and rely on the VHSL for policy and guidance. To that end, the VHSL will comply with the Executive Order,” VHSL Executive Director John W. Haun said in a statement.

“The compliance will provide membership clear and consistent direction.”

TRUMP SIGNS ‘NO MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS’ EXECUTIVE ORDER

The statement also noted that the VHSL executive committee directed staff to immediately propose policy changes in the form of emergency legislation to comply with the executive order. Language will be adjusted in its policy manual soon.

“This doesn’t have to be long. It’s all about common sense,” Trump said before signing the order last week, adding that “Women’s sports will be only for women.”

“The war on women’s sports is over,” he said.

Since Trump signed the order, the NCAA has also officially banned trans athletes from participating in women’s sports. Their announcement came one day after the signing, a quick response for the collegiate governing body.

“A student-athlete assigned male at birth may not compete on a women’s team,” the new policy reads. The policy does allow biological females to compete in men’s sports.

“The NCAA is an organization made up of 1,100 colleges and universities in all 50 states that collectively enroll more than 530,000 student-athletes,” NCAA President Charlie Baker said in a statement. “We strongly believe that clear, consistent and uniform eligibility standards would best serve today’s student-athletes instead of a patchwork of conflicting state laws and court decisions. To that end, President Trump’s order provides a clear, national standard.”

Independent Women ambassadors Riley Gaines, Payton McNabb, Paula Scanlan, Sia Liilii, Lauren Miller, Kim Russell, Kaitlynn Wheeler, Linnea Saltz and Lily Mullens were present when Trump signed the executive order in the East Room of the White House.

Gaines, who hosts OutKick’s “Gaines for Girls” podcast, was among those fighting for fairness in women’s sports after being outspoken about her experience swimming against Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer who won the women’s NCAA Championships in 2022.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a briefing before Trump signed the executive order that it “upholds the promise of Title IX.”

“President Trump pledged to restore common sense to our country, and he’s continuing to deliver on that with an executive order that he will sign later today,” she added. “The president will be signing an executive order, keeping men out of women’s sports to defend the safety of athletes, protect competitive integrity and uphold the promise of Title IX.”

Leavitt also called upon the Senate to pass the Protection of Women and Girls Sports Act, which the House sent through last month. The bill would ban biological males from participating on girls’ school sports teams while also amending federal law to specify that student athletes must participate in school sports that coincide with their birth gender.

Trump was in office when he rescinded his invitation to the Eagles to celebrate their Super Bowl LII victory, as some players said they would not visit the White House due to Trump’s criticism of those who kneeled or raised their fists during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes leaves out teammate while shaking hands during Super Bowl LIX loss

Vibes weren’t high on the Kansas City Chiefs’ sideline during Super Bowl LIX as they were uncharacteristically blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, though, was spotted walking down the bench dapping up his teammates, trying to keep spirits high at a time when they were at their lowest all season.

However, Mahomes is being scrutinized for seemingly forgetting to shake hands with one of his running backs, Samaje Perine, as he went down the line.

Hurts had 221 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in Philadelphia’s 40-22 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs. For that, he was named MVP of the game.

The tradition of Super Bowl MVPs going to Disney World started in 1987 after the New York Giants defeated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI. Phil Simms, who was the MVP of that game, was filmed in Disney’s “What’s Next?” commercial.

He is asked, “Phil Simms, you have just won the Super Bowl. What are you doing next?”

“I’m gonna go to Disney World,” he responded.

Hurts’ commercial featured his throw to Jahan Dotson in the first quarter, which was nearly a touchdown. Then, it showed the team’s tush push to get him into the end zone for the first score of the game. It also featured his bullseye pass to Devonta Smith for a touchdown.

“I’m going to Disney World!” Hurts said when asked what he was going to do next.

“Adversity has a tendency to bring you together,” he said. “I look back on last year and how last year ended, and I’m grateful. As crazy as it sounds, I’m grateful how last year ended because it shaped us to who we are today and where we’re standing today.”
